I went in for an endoscopy with hopes of addressing new symptoms and concerns, but the entire process left me feeling neglected, ignored, and uncared for. Before the procedure, I attempted to communicate my symptoms and concerns to Dr. Distler, but unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to speak with him directly. Despite leaving a message with the receptionist requesting a call from the doctor, I never received one. This lack of communication set a concerning tone for the entire experience. My scheduled appointment for 10 am turned into a lengthy wait, with me not being seen until about 12:15 pm. This significant delay only added to my anxiety and frustration, especially considering my desire to communicate with the doctor beforehand. Throughout the entire process, I repeatedly requested to speak with Dr. Distler about my symptoms and concerns. However, my requests were ignored, and I was abruptly introduced to the anesthesiologist, Dr. Francisco Narvaez, without any prior introduction. Dr. Narvaez proceeded to administer anesthesia without addressing my concerns or providing any reassurance, resulting in a painful and distressing experience. As I was laying down requesting to speak with Dr. Distler, Dr. Narvaez shoved something around my mouth and the anesthesia in my arm while I'm asking him to stop while Dr. Distler was right there. The lack of empathy and communication from both Dr. Distler and Dr. Narvaez made me feel like nothing more than a paycheck, rather than a human being seeking medical care. Even after the procedure, during my recovery, Dr. Distler failed to check in on me or provide any post-operative care. The lack of follow-up and concern for my well-being further reinforced my belief that Dr. Distler prioritizes financial gain over patient care. Four days post-procedure, I still hadn't received any communication about my results. When I reached out, I was informed that I needed to call and make an appointment to receive them. This lack of proactive communication and the requirement to make an appointment solely for results delivery felt like another instance of prioritizing financial gain over patient care. I called multiple times leaving messages for him to call me back for the past two years and he still can't give me a call. In conclusion, my experience with Dr. Distler at Westside GI was deeply disappointing and traumatic. The lack of communication, empathy, and follow-up care demonstrated by Dr. Distler and his team left me feeling neglected and uncared for. As a result of this experience, I have lost trust in Dr. Distler and will not be returning to his practice. This traumatic experience has also left me hesitant to seek medical care in the future, as I no longer feel comfortable entrusting my health to healthcare professionals who prioritize profit over patient well-being. I explained that I had never received the preparation instructions for the test. Rather than trying to help or find a solution, she immediately focused on telling me that I had opened the patient portal more than 10 days ago. I've never been to a medical office that sends critical test instructions so far in advance of the appointment and assumes patients will remember to go back and review them days later. A simple reminder closer to the appointment would have prevented this situation. Instead of showing empathy or working with me to resolve the issue, she raised her voice, repeatedly told me to "take accountability," and handled the interaction in an extremely confrontational and unprofessional manner. I felt like I was being scolded rather than helped. The entire exchange was unnecessarily uncomfortable and stressful. Customer service, especially in healthcare, should be centered on professionalism, empathy, and problem-solving. Unfortunately, I experienced none of those qualities here. The interaction left me feeling so uncomfortable that I no longer feel safe or confident having my SIBO test performed at this location. I hope the practice invests in customer service and conflict resolution training for its front desk staff, because no patient should be treated this way.

Here is my experience: I'll start by saying that the staff were friendly and professional, but that is the extent of the positivity here. I have in-network insurance, early 30's, low risk for heart issues and, by choice, just underwent a full ECG and heart stress test with a licensed cardiologist/heart doctor specialist about 6 months ago. 40+ minute wait. Dr. Abroon is NOT a cardiologist. He is a PCP. Yet he insisted, even after I told him and his staff that I just did a fulsome heart exam with a cardiologist, that (1) I pay $250 out of pocket UNLESS (2) they administer an EKG at the start of the visit without having assessed symptoms or risks or heart issues. His staff conveyed that he does an EKG on all his patients, which is medically unnecessary according to a number of medical authorities (see, for example, https://www.aafp.org/family-physician/patient-care/clinical-recommendations/all-clinical-recommendations/cw-ekg.html). Could I have opted to pay $47 to move forward with his EKG? Sure. But on principle this is very clearly a very wrong thing to do. It is not ethical to push an unnecessary medical exam that is costly for an insurance company so he can receive pure financial gain, and again, what's worse is that when I declined the EKG, he gave me the ultimatum that he would otherwise charge me a whopping $250 out of pocket. After I raised all these issues with Dr Abroon, he declined to proceed with our visit. Dr. Abroon's practice is patently unethical, and calls to question whether he has tendencies to conduct his practice this way more broadly. I encourage you to avoid this place. There are plenty of providers in the city that are upstanding.

While the other practice left me sore for a couple of days, this time at this practice I felt perfectly fine after both procedures. Dr. Aisenberg was straightforward and walked me through all of my options and then administered the procedure in a caring manner. The issue was with billing. I purposefully called ahead of time and spoke to representatives from the Endoscopy Center and my insurance company in order to confirm with certainty what the cost of my procedure would be. Everyone agreed on the amount, which I paid at the time of my procedure. Somehow, for some reason, everyone had gotten it wrong. I was billed in multiple installments for multiple additional amounts and services after my procedure, after paying the amount I was promised was the sum total of the cost. The Center does hundreds of endoscopies a year - how could they have not been able to tell me what it would cost? And to have gotten it wrong after multiple discussions, including in consultation with my insurance. I received these multiple bills over time. Each time (including in July 2026, more than 2 years after the procedure!) I called the Endoscopy Center's billing office to inquire as to why additional bills came. They promised me each time that the subsequently made payments would mean I've fully paid for the service. They were wrong. The last time, I got a *text message* from Remex, a debt collection agency. I thought it was spam. I called the billing dept. and was told by the billing dept. that the charge was turned over to the agency in December 2024. How could the billing department, when I spoke to them in December 2024 and February 2025, not been able to tell me that there were additional debts outstanding that were to be/had been turned over to an agency? Horrible customer service. Horrible communication. Something needs to be done. Despite the good care, I will never come back here and I would advise people to find a different provider to spare yourself the unnecessary cost, in dollars and time.
