Dr Kavaler saved my life. After dragging my feet for years I finally listened to him and had my Colonoscopy. Quite a few polyps were removed. Not sure why I always ignored my health tests but I'm glad I now take my health more seriously. Having his wife Dr Jill Kavaler as my Anesthesiologist made the experience even better. They are really nice people on top of being great Doctors. I wasn't very comfortable when I arrived for my 1st Colonoscopy but the Ladies at the Front quickly made me feel relaxed and glad I came. I had a very disappointing experience at this office today when I arrived for my SIBO breath test. From the moment I walked in, the woman at the front desk was hostile and unwelcoming. I explained that I had never received the preparation instructions for the test. Rather than trying to help or find a solution, she immediately focused on telling me that I had opened the patient portal more than 10 days ago. I've never been to a medical office that sends critical test instructions so far in advance of the appointment and assumes patients will remember to go back and review them days later. A simple reminder closer to the appointment would have prevented this situation. Instead of showing empathy or working with me to resolve the issue, she raised her voice, repeatedly told me to "take accountability," and handled the interaction in an extremely confrontational and unprofessional manner. I felt like I was being scolded rather than helped. The entire exchange was unnecessarily uncomfortable and stressful. Customer service, especially in healthcare, should be centered on professionalism, empathy, and problem-solving. Unfortunately, I experienced none of those qualities here. The interaction left me feeling so uncomfortable that I no longer feel safe or confident having my SIBO test performed at this location. I hope the practice invests in customer service and conflict resolution training for its front desk staff, because no patient should be treated this way. read more

I cannot sing Dr. Kaveler's praises enough! I have been dealing with some weird stomach issues for the last 3 years, and he is the first doctor I have seen to not treat me like a crazy person! He was nothing but warm and caring, and thorough! He was fully booked when I called to make an appointment, and unlike other doctors I called before him- he made time for me that day instead of having me wait 2-3 months in agony for an appointment. Dr. Kavaler sat with me and listened to everything, and we worked together to decide course of treatment. His bedside manner is jovial and light, and it really helps put you at ease and reminds you that you are talking to a human and not a white coat. There were some logistical issues that arose with my insurance during the week between my appointment and my procedure and he responded right away to emails and even called me himself to deal with them, to offer solutions- going above and beyond to make sure I had the proper care and was able to have my procedure done. During my procedure he was calming and put my fears to rest. And, even though we still didn't figure out the cause of my pain, he didn't dismiss it either. I really felt like someone gave a crap about me, which is so rare for most doctors these days! If you need a GI, he really is amazing, and I cannot recommend him highly enough! read more

Dr. Kavaler presents as a reasonable Gastro for conveniently scheduled treatment. I recently had my Colonoscopy with him. (I inherited Dr. Kavaler when Dr. Perlow retired.) However, if you are in physical distress, have spent 7 hours the previous day in Mt. Sinai ER, and 'think' you have a Gastro, consider: Through my entire episode I could not reach him, could not get any return calls from him, and could not get an appt with him in less than 2 weeks. I called his office first thing the next am and explained that I'd spent the previous day in the ER and that I was still in distress. They said they would call me back. They did not. 3 hours later after 2 more calls they made an appt for me to see a stand-in Gastro (without any clarification to me I found out after the appt I saw a PA). So if you're looking for a Gastro to completely ghost you in your hour of need, I think you cannot go wrong with Dr. Kavaler. P.S. Afterwards I actually wrote a respectful snailmail letter to Dr. Kaveler explaining my disappointment. He never responded to that either. read more

I have been to 2 other GI doctors and not impressed. Dr. Pashinksky was recommended to me by another doctor who said, his wife uses her. I read the reviews of my old doctors and compared them with Dr. Pashinsky and from the reviews she sounded great. I have not been disappointed. From the start, the first meeting was not me sitting in a waiting room for a long time and then in a nightgown in a cold room. Within 5 minutes of my appointment, I was called into a comfortable office in which I sat in a chair across from her at her desk. We spoke at length to discuss my issues and then she did her exam. She then recommended several tests based on the discussion and exam to make sure we had the correct assessment. After the first test she personally called me with the results. Then I had to go for surgery.. The next day it appeared I may have had a minor common issue. I called and she immediately called back & she cleared her schedule and had me immediately come in. She is a caring, competent doctor that I strongly recommend. read more

I went to this office due to what I believe may be an underlining GI issue, and found this office via yelp. I apologize in advance for being vague since I don't want everyone to know about my personal condition. HIPPA! Receptionists were welcoming when I booked an appointment, and I asked for the price of appointment since I'd pay out of pocket. They quoted me $300-400. I'm thankful they were honest and told me before the actual appointment. It allowed me to save up. The office was clean and neat. The receptionist addressed me quick and had me sign in. I do think they can use more staff; they seemed really busy with phone calls. They handled it well, and whenever I went up to the desk, I didn't wait long to get their attention. What matters most anyway, are the doctors. I met with Dr. Kavaler. The first thing he did was shake my hand and greeted me warmly. I read other reviews describing him as "cut-to-the-chase", "stern", "no BS approach", and this had me thinking Dr. Kavaler is an old, stubborn, black&white kind of person. After meeting him, he is indeed honest, to-the-point type of person. But he's a good mix of caring, and personable too. I felt I was in good hands after speaking with him. Awesome bedside manners, warms personality. He didn't sugar coat anything--I guess this is how people believe him to be "no BS". He explained clearly, and I never felt rushed. You are allotted 45 minutes with the doctor. That's nice and long. He examined me, asked many questions, and ruled out a few things. He's the type to not give me a list of medication and run expensive tests like all other doctors. I meant it when I said he was caring, and personable. He understood my finances, and accommodated me. I'm only sharing this to show he is truly caring and working for the people and not for the money. In no way do I want to advertise this and claim he'll do this for everyone. I want people to go here so they know they will get the care they need and deserve. There is nothing better than walking out of a doctors office knowing your issues will be tended to, and you know you will get better by trusting the doctor you've just met. This is how I felt when I left; and a lot of the times, this is not common. I recommend Dr. Kavaler to everyone. read more

They were able to get me an appointment within 2 weeks and were very nice on the phone. The office is very professional and I did not have to wait when I got there. I'm a starving student, so when I went to see Dr. Kavaler, I was a bit nervous about the price. I remember calling another gastroenterologist and the first thing the receptionist said was, "You do realize this is a specialist so...the prices...?" Sadly, I was fully aware that one trip could cost at least 400 dollars. When I finally met Dr. Kavaler, he put me at ease. He completely understood that I'm not a rich, snobby Upper East Side kid. I think he could tell by my clothes. He was succinct and got me in and out in 15 minutes. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. When I finally got my bill, he had slashed over 90% for both my visits. Will be seeing him again for a final checkup this month. Maybe I'll put out this time. I was initially nervous to undergo various tests, but they made me feel so safe and calm. Also, unlike other doctors who've just prescribed me prescriptions which only made my condition worse, Dr Kavaler made sure he went over all of my symptoms and past and performed the appropriate tests and biopsies before determining what I had and needed. Always have you annual screenings with Dr. Kavaler. Colon cancer is a silent killer and by the time you start to have symptoms and are diagnosed it has usually spread. Nicely lit office. Courteous staff. I didn't wait long to see the doctor. As soon I was finished with my paperworks, I was brought in to see Dr Pashinsky. Dr Pashinsky put me at ease and explained things throughly. Good eye contact and there's really a sincere concern about my well being. Albeit, I am from the medical field as herself, you will realize by listening to her how much you don't know about your symptoms. It's easier to understand when you can see images or pictures instead of trying to visualize it. I didn't come out feeling chastised about my poor diet but rather enlightened. I am scheduling my procedures as soon as I have the time. Dr. Leon Kavaler saved my life, literally! I recently had a hysterectomy done by another surgeon, and about 1 week after my surgery, I started get severe pain in my lower and upper abdomen which would not go away. Over the next few weeks the pain continued, and I had seen my gynecologist (who performed the initial surgery) a Gastrologist in Queens and had been admitted into 2 hospitals, and all of them had misdiagnosed me with either having gastritis or constipation pain. A month after my surgery, feeling hopeless and still in excruciating pain, I had found Dr. Kavaler online. He had really good reviews and took me in immediately. He sat me down and took the time to understand my situation. In the same day, he had me go to a nearby lab and take some tests. Within 2.5 hours of meeting with him, he found the cause of my pain. It ended up being that during my hysterectomy, the surgeon had punctured by ureter and no one but Dr.Kavaler had been able to figure this out! He sent me to ER right away to have it fixed and followed up with me every day to ensure that I was being properly taken care of. Dr.Kavaler saved me! He is kind, thorough in his exams, knowledgeable, has a lot of experience, and really takes the time to get to know his patients and provide them with the best service!
