As a clinician myself I understand my clients come first. From my personal experience, I have to say the office managers at both the doctor's office and Manhattan Endoscopy need a refresher in customers service. The office manager at the doctors' office was highly unprofessional and lacked the basic compassion needed to address my concerns. The Manhattan Endoscopy office manager didn't even come to the phone. Wow! Not a Karen here. I just spoke to the "doctor" and he was didactic and totally unreceptive to my concerns and extremely rude. He informed me of how he performs thousands of procedures and blah blah blah. I simply stopped his pompous tirade and canceled then and there. Maybe it was just a bad day I can't say but I hope this review prevents another experience like this for someone getting a medically significant and stress full procedure. read more

As a gay man, I prefer to have a gay or at least gay friendly doctor, seeing that the last thing I want is a doctor who is passing judgement on my lifestyle. I got this with Dr. Pacheco. As a member of New York University's faculty, he holds a private practice in Gastroenterology in the East Midtown of NYC. His expertise is in Gastro Esophogeal Reflux Disesase, but with only a few tests was able to recognize a much rarer condition that I had been suffering from...something that made surgery a necessity. Post surgery, I have received several follow up phone calls from Dr. Pacheco, just checking on my general well being. He's been the first to suggest second opinions to put my mind at ease if necessary, and is entirely responsive to phone calls and/or written correspondence (often calling well after business hours have concluded). I would without reservation recommend Dr. Pacheco if you are having any gastro intestional problems. read more

Today I went to see Dr. Pacheco for stomach problems that I have been having for awhile... I was referred to him a few years ago by my old doctor, for an endoscopy and had the procedure done by him. Everything went well. I had not been back to see him since then, until today, though...no reason, other than that I hadn't need to go... First off, take note: the office has moved to 56th street. They are in a nicer office (not that the old one wasn't nice...). At first, I was put off by the fact that I wound up waiting over an hour to see the doctor. I was starting to get irritated when Ingrid, the front office assistant/receptionist, asked me if they had called me yet and I said no. She took care of it right away and sincerely apologized. I was called back a couple of minutes later and Dr. Pacheco ducked in and told me that he was going to be right there. When he came in and I started talking to him and he pulled up my old charts to show me everything on them, I realized why I had come back to him. He is very personable and thorough. When a doctor spends more than 30 seconds in your room, without sending in his assistants/nurses to do everything, it's very rare and appreciated. He also apologized again for me waiting, as they did up front again...it was worth the wait. Now, I have to go back and have my colonoscopy done...can't wait for that (not).... read more

I have seen Dr Pacheco for several years for a mild form of Barretts' esophagus. The initial diagnosis, made by Dr Pacheco, was scary - Barrett's can progress to a more dangerous condition and potentially to cancer. Dr Pacheco took the time to explain what the diagnosis was, what was the prognosis, the treatment options and the follow up regimen. For a lay person, I am reasonably well informed about medicine and Dr Pacheco answered all my questions patiently and in detail. When I requested a second opinion, Dr Pacheco referred me quickly and graciously to a leading researcher in the field (who confirmed Dr Pacheco's findings and prognosis). Dr Pacheco keeps up on the latest developments in gastroenterology and I have complete confidence in him. Beyond Dr Pacheco's technical competence, I simply like the man. Gastro problems are certainly one of the most confusing and distressing conditions a patient can be faced with. I went to Dr. Pacheco in the hopes that some of my symptoms would be alleviated and the cause of them addressed. I wish I could write a more positive review, but the reality is that my first experience dealing with this issue was unpleasant - the "care" I received did not really help me in any way to understand what was really going on in my body. Dr. Pacheco is not a great doctor, he doesn't seem to understand what a patient needs beyond perhaps a diagnosis or script. Similarly, he doesn't seem to want to or have the time to really listen. Patients are file numbers, not people. For example, immediately following my colonoscopy I was visited by Dr. Pacheco and informed that I might have Crohn's, but he "wasn't sure" - nonetheless he gave me a prescription and without any further conversation, explanation or education to help me to understand what it all meant, he split. Of course, without having any prior experience I thought this was normal. My recent experience with Dr. Todd Linden proved to me that Dr. Pacheco was absolutely the wrong choice for me. Today, I can say that I feel informed and empowered to understand my body and the issues I have been facing. After my recent procedure with Dr. Linden, I was informed that everything was ok and that he wanted to schedule a follow up to discuss. In his office, we reviewed my file, he walked me through all the photos and tests and TALKED to me about what my concerns were! This is how it should happen every time regardless of the diagnosis. I was introduced to Dr. Pacheco through a friend who is on staff at NYU Medical Center. I went to Dr. Pacheco for a second opinion and am grateful i did. After a thorough exam and series of tests, I was diagnosed with something my colo/rectal surgeon missed. Through the treatment phase, Dr. Pacheco was professional, patient, empathetic and caring. He followed up with me as I progressed through my treatment and was very responsive to my many questions. Having had GI issues for most of my adult life, finding a doctor who listens, takes the time to talk with you (not to you) and is genuinely interested in your well being is hard to find. Every positive review on here is absolutely true!!!! I have seen Dr. Pacheco for years. My family has a history of Chron's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis as well as some esophageal issues. Dr. Pacheco has always tended to my visits with care and concern. He has spent countless follow up visits after endoscopies or colonoscopies taking time to not only explain what is going on with me...but to also make sure that I understand it. I am baffled by the couple of negative comments on here because it would be so out of Dr. Pacheco's character and nature to not take the time needed with each patient to ensure that they get proper treatment and follow up care. Excellent and very thorough Gastroenterologist. I worked with him professionally in his endoscopy center and he was my favorite so when I needed to see someone for my symptoms it was a no brainer. He is so intelligent and thoughtful. He treats the WHOLE patient, and has amazing bedside manner. He likes to see his new patients before they get in a gown because some can feel more vulnerable which I think is so professional. His staff is lovely and very responsive to my calls, very accommodating. His office is beautiful and serine. I have had multiple ongoing GI issues over the last 3 years and he has diagnosed me and treated me not only competently but with the utmost respect and compassion. My experience with Dr. Pacheco has been excellent thus far. I was referred to Dr. Pacheco through my primary physician, and I could not be happier with the referral. As a young person, an endoscopic procedure is very foreign and a bit nerve-wracking, however from our first introduction I felt at ease and comfortable. Dr. Pacheco made time outside of his schedule to see me, to expedite the process and to work with my insurance company. His entire office put in a lot of effort in this way and showed a lot of care! I saw Dr. Pacheco and his team in midtown. Clean, professional medical office which was run very well by attentive office folks. The medical team was warm, courteous and thorough. Although the procedure was in a midtown office building (I think they had the whole floor dedicated to the practice), I felt as if I was in a well-constructed hospital. Things ran smoothly. Although my news wasn't 100% good, the way Dr. Pacheco handled my situation was with a very high professional standard keeping me informed and following up with my physician. I work in healthcare myself (Dr. Pacheco did not know that), so my standards can sometimes be annoyingly high, and this practice did very well. read more

I first went to see him as a referral, but after some research I found he has extensive knowledge/expertise and experience in the field, which was critical to me (I read one of his books). More importantly he has an incredibly pleasant and kind manner and takes time to listen and explain everything, at each visit. He is just an all round super nice guy. I have had a few endoscopies with Dr. Pacheco at his office, which require going under general anesthesia, for me that would be a little unsettling, but the Dr and his staff really instill great confidence and went out of their way to make it an extremely pleasant and carefree experience. I was recently a patient of Dr Pacheco. He took very good care of me. He has excellent bed side manner. He introduced himself while I was still being checked in by the nurse. Which is something that I never experienced before. He said he like to see the patients before procedure time and I thought wow that's great. Seeing some before they are in a hospital gown. After my procedure and came to check on me in the recovery area and told me my results. The next day I was experiencing some pain. I nervously called his office left a message and with in 2 hours he called me back, He told me sorry for the long wait he didn't check his messages sooner because it was his day off. I was thrilled that he personal checked in on my and told me that the pain that I was experiencing was completely normal. Overall I had a great experience. read more

Having passed the 50 mark, I needed to have a colonoscopy. My PCP referred me to Dr. Pacheco. I was impressed from the 1st interaction with his staff to the follow up by Dr. Pacheco after the procedure. Each step along the way, I was told what to expect. When I arrived for the appointment, I was pleasantly surprised to find a modern and spotless facility. The staff could not have been more helpful and efficient. At exactly the scheduled time, my name was called - definitely a first in a doctor's office! Each person involved in the procedure explained their role. Both Dr. Pacheco and the anesthesiologist put my mind at ease, calmly explaing what was going to occur and answering my questions. The procedure went smoothly. I felt great and had no side effects. I love Dr. Pacheco! He really knows his stuff! I saw him for a stomach problem about 5 years ago. He ran all the appropriate tests (blood tests, gall bladder as I have a family history, and endoscopy for a possible ulcer.) I felt very confident going back to him a couple of years later for a routine colonoscopy. I had that at the Manhattan Endoscopy Center. I was afraid that place would be impersonal because it was so big, but everyone was friendly and made me feel relaxed. I recently went to Dr. Pacheco for a colonoscopy. His team is filled with organized, polite, lovely people. As for Dr. Pacheco, he is an amazingly warm individual. His ability on a busy day to devote his attention to you is quite remarkable. It is as if you are the ONLY patient that day. He is kind, reassuring and always honest and upfront with you.
