16th Century Paneer - served with fog!
    Rebecca L.

Barsa New Indian is exceptional! Very complex spices. Lots of plant forward options. The presentation was magnificent. Attentive service. Lovely decor. We loved 16th Century Paneer, and Butternut Squash Kofta, and Spice Box Bisi.

16th century paneer (quite spicy) served over dry ice 'fog'.

Visited with my adult daughter and husband. Ambience upscale, not too loud. Accommodated us early for our reservation which we appreciated. The gunpowder lamb chops were absolutely stunningly presented AND delicious. So was the 16th century paneer. The Indian food here was well seasoned and delicious. Loved our dinner of the chicken koftas, naan, and paneer tikka masala. The cocktails were delicious as well. Service great! Sagar, our waiter, was professional and suggested some of the best dishes when asked. They fell down a little on dessert. Would not recommend the deconstructed jalebi which was not deconstructed but served as a waffle. The panna cotta was delicious! We will be back. The meal was so very enjoyable.

What I recommend: The salmon in banana leaves, the jalapeño naan, and the smoked Old Fashioned Barsa is a new Indian spot a few friends recommended, and I'm glad I went. The atmosphere is casual with a touch of upscale, the service is personal, and the presentation on every dish is A1. We ordered a few appetizers, two mains, naan, and some drinks. The cocktails were fantastic, especially the smoked Old Fashioned. Some dishes had slightly muted flavors while others hit the perfect balance of spice, but overall everything tasted good. The salmon wrapped in banana leaves was the standout appetizer, and the jalapeño naan is a must. I'd give this place a 4.5 if I could, but for now it's a solid 4. Properly priced, great vibes, and definitely worth trying.

I'd give this place 10 stars if I could. Beautiful setting, friendly servers (Sunny was awesome), AMAZING food (Mixed Grill 10/10), fun cocktails. May be my new fave restaurant!

Loved this restaurant! I love me some Indian cuisine and was excited about this new spot opening. Came for dinner with a group of 4 and ordered a few dishes to pick at family style with an order or garlic naan. The food was all amazing! Something for everyone in the group (vegan, pescatarian, meat eaters, etc.). Serving sizes were fair. We were full with 4 dishes and Naan. Took home leftovers. The restaurant itself had nice decor and style and the drinks were ordered were also creative and delish. Want to come back and try more drinks and dishes!

Finally made it to Barsa, the much anticipated new addition in Durham! Despite being led by a "Michelin-starred" chef, the ambiance leans more accessible, casual, and comfortable rather than upscale fine dining. The space is open and lively, with tables placed relatively close together, so it can get a bit noisy. It felt more like an energetic bistro than intimate restaurant. The food was delicious across the board, nothing missed the mark. We started with the lamb urundai meatballs and the salmon in banana leaf. Both were well-executed and paired with standout sauces that elevated the dishes. For mains, we went with our usual "test dishes": the Mixed Grill and Kofta. The mixed grill was good but did not stand out. The Kofta blew us away! It was so unique (without the typical tomato base) and served in a rich, flavorful cream gravy that truly wowed us. The menu isn't huge, but it features several intriguing seafood-forward options. I'm eyeing the lobster molee for next time. Portion sizes were generous. Service was fast and friendly. The team seems to still be finding their rhythm a little bit (e.g., our utensils were taken away mid-meal a couple of times and had to be replaced because we didn't finish our course yet), but everyone was really attentive and warm. It also looked like some staff are in training, which I appreciate, because they are hiring local talent! In the Triangle's evolving Indian food scene, we have beautiful ambience and bold flavors at Tamasha, sleek modern execution at Viceroy, and a fun broad regional menu paired with impeccable drinks at Cheeni, Barsa carves out its own niche. I enjoyed their high-quality, creative dishes that remain rooted in firmly in South Indian cuisine. Excited to welcome this unique addition and look forward to returning for more.

Ok, let me get this clear. Many people love this place and I now know why but I also don't want to understate my pure glee when trying this food. I'm a fairly practiced home cook that loves to make food-sciency dishes, Michelin inspired stuff, and true comfort food alike. Most places I've been I could now recreate the majority of the food on my own (including a variety of ethnic food, especially Indian). I think it would take me a few years to recreate ONE DISH from this place. I should seriously be spending time with my mother and grandmother but instead my head is currently buried in my phone while trying to envision the tastes that hit my tongue. Anyways, this place beat the brakes off my expectations, so let's get talking about food and service. First Impression: Upon walking into the restaurant, I was kindly greeted by the man working the front of house (Sonny) and he shook my hand after recognizing my voice. I called fifteen minutes prior to push our reservation and add a seat, but I did not expect to feel so welcomed and comfortable so quickly. Amazing hire and clearly keeps things running smoothly. No notes for the other staff either, they were all exceedingly kind, courteous, and responsive when we had questions. Ambiance: This greatly contributed to the fantastic meal we just had. They had flowers and balloons out for Mother's Day (which was not expected at all either), but also the whole place is filled with natural light and a simply great vibe when eating food. Music wasn't loud/distracting, acoustics never made me worry I was yelling either. The food also was so pretty that it just tied it all together organically. Appetizers: I think this place is pretty well known for its Gunpowder Lamb Chops. So I won't go into excessive detail, but yes it is just that fucking good that if you don't get it, you're probably not thinking straight. I will definitely be back for those because I wouldn't dare try to make it myself and ruin it. We also had this Chaat dish that was a more modern take and it was without a doubt the most creative Chaat I've ever tried. Excellent. Entrees and Sides: We ordered three entrees to share amongst 5 adults (although 2 are older folks) and had two small boxes of leftovers to argue over. The first thing that I tried was the Duck Vindaloo (9.8/10) - I knew immediately I would be writing my very first food review afterwards. I don't even know if putting duck in a vindaloo is conventional, but it's EPIC. My grandparents thought it was a touch sweet but I liked it better that way and it perfectly complemented the duck. Next was the Ember Lamb Shank Special (9.5/10) - which was of course amazing. I actually forgot to put the gravy on top for the first half of the lamb I ate, so the half point off is honestly my fault. Would've been a ten if I was locked in. We also got the Nustea Shrimp (10/10) - which I think you will have to try yourself to believe my rating. I won't even try to describe it other than the sorba (sauce) that we almost licked off the plate. Lastly, we had Naan (8.9/10), Chili-Garlic Naan (9.3/10), Raita (9.7/10), and a vegetable salad (9/10) on the side. I have always thought most Indian restaurants cheap out on the sides, but this one makes them expert level. I genuinely have no idea what the orange crunchy spheres in the raita were, but this was the only time I've ever had raita outside my home and liked it. Desserts and Beverages: We ordered the Kumbala Brulee (9.5/10, genius idea btw). The lovely staff ALSO gifted us some Raspberry cake (9.7/10) which was phenomenal. That was honestly the cherry on top that made me a true believer. Final Note: If you read this far and haven't made a reservation yet then unfortunately you didn't get the point... Go try this place ASAP I pinky promise you won't regret it. I even ordered a goat curry to go so my girlfriend could try the art they are calling food. Oh and did I somehow forget to add ALL THE MEAT IS HALAL??? What a way to put me in the running for favorite grandchild . And Sonny if you're reading this thanks for making this Mother's Day one of the best you're the man!!

    Megh Beet Hummus
    Natasha M.

5 stars for the food-- the food was fresh and an innovative take on some classics. The beetroot hummus with falafel was a must-have. The falafel was like a bhajiya and had really unique flavors to it. The fried baby corn was also delicious and the homemade paneer unlike anything I've had before. We had the kofta for the main dish which had a sweetness to it that I have not had in a kofta before but truly loved. And the naans were fresh and brought hot to the table! Would definitely recommend coming here for an elevated Indian meal. The service could frankly use some work. First, the space, while beautifully decorated, is very loud and has a lot of echoing. We were sat right in the middle of the restaurant and were screaming at each other most of the meal to have a conversation. I think this may have also led to us getting the wrong order. It took about 20 minutes for someone to take our order, when they did they brought out an appetizer another 20-30 min later (we ordered 3), had to remind them about our other two. During this time they brought an appetizer that wasn't ours to the table, insisted we ordered it. We got two appetizers and then never got our third. Our main dish came out with rice (without naan) before the final appetizer came. At one point they brought us a large tandoori meat tray, we are all vegetarians, and insisted we ordered that too. And then at the end of the meal our last appetizer came out. Overall, I'm willing to give this place another try in a few months because the food was good! However I can tell they need to work out some things with their service. Eager to see what it looks like in a bit!

My son and I visited this restaurant the evening of June 16, 2025. The restaurant opened on May 22, 2025, and my son heard great things about it, so we were eager to try their food. Upon arrival, we were met by the owner, Sunny, who was very personable, greeted us with a warm smile, and escorted us to our seat. We had lots of questions, so he provided us with some great insights on his new restaurant. I love the decor of the restaurant. It has a modernized classy look and feels welcoming. The atmosphere is conducive for various types of occasions. Our server, Murali, was very professional and took great care of us during our visit. He was able to answer specific questions about the menu as well as give recommendations based on our requests. We started off our evening with a few drinks. We ordered the Mango Lassi, Khatta Meetta Badal, and Chaand Shower. The Mango Lassi had a great authentic flavor, was smooth, rich, and creamy. The Khatta Meetta Badal was flavorful and had a jalapeño kick to give a sweet and spicy taste. The Chaand Shower was the best drink that I've ever had. The passionfruit was the highlight of this drink; however, all other flavors were easily identified. It was such a tropical paradise in my mouth that I felt as if I was laid out on a hammock on the beach. We ordered several items from the menu. For our appetizers, we had the 16th Century Paneer, Megh Beet Hummus, and Pan-Seared Fish in Banana Leaf. For the entrees, we ordered the Lobster Mobile and Baarish Ka Lamb. The presentation of each dish was exquisite. Everything was plated well and some even displayed a smoky background. The portion size was perfect and in some cases more than expected. The paneer dish had a unique flavor. The cheese balanced with the spices really illuminated my mouth. The Hummus dish surprised me. I just loved the crispiness of the falafel which was perfect for the beetroot hummus and added to the intensity of the dish. The pan-seared fish wrapped in banana leaf was so moist and had great texture. There was also a hint of flavor from the banana leaf which enhanced the dish. The lobster dish was scrumptious. The lobster meat practically melted in my mouth. All the flavors exhibited in this dish meshed very well and kept me wanting more. My son enjoyed the lamb dish. He said it was incredibly delicate, savory and melted in his mouth. The meat fell right off the bone. Big kudos to Chef Vinod! Every single dish that we ordered was absolutely fabulous! Everything is made from scratch, and there are no artificial ingredients. All spices are made fresh. There is nothing pre-made or bought from a store. This restaurant has its own pastry chef which explained why the desserts we ordered (Kavani Millet Halwa and Burnt Butter Pannacotta) tasted so fresh and rich. This was the first time I had a pannacotta presented quite like that. The flavors reminded me of a drink we make in the Caribbean called Coquito. My son enjoyed the Halwa and compared the flavor to another Caribbean dish called Ducana. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience at this restaurant. Every drink, entrée, and dessert was prepared perfectly and with great consistency and flavors. We enjoyed every minute of it! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Barsa is one of the hottest new restaurants in Durham, and the food did not disappoint! We visited this new hot spot in the 2nd week of their grand reopening. What I like the most about Barsa is their inventive take on Indian food. You can find many of the dishes you would come to expect from an Indian restaurant, but done in a modern way. Here's what we enjoyed: -Muru Muru Chicken: this was flavorful and delicious! A fun take on a popcorn Chicken dish seasoned extremely well with Indian spices -Pan Seared Fish in Banana Leaf: this was my husband's pick; we thoroughly enjoyed it and it's worth mentioning how tender and flaky the fish was, perfectly spiced! -Seafood Moilee with Lobster: this dish was incredible! I've had moilee at other Indian restaurants in the past, but this dish was done so well! It's a mild curry dish with coconut milk that is so tasty! My only complaint was that the lobster tail was a bit small and I wish I had more! -Barrish Ka Lamb: this was my husband's entree. He enjoyed his dish very much and made me mention of how tender and flavorful the lamb chops were -Butter Naan: just as you'd expect naan to be! This was yummy, buttery, and delicious -Kavani Millet Halwa: this was a very interesting dessert; the official description is " A rich, slow-cooked millet dessert with ghee, jaggery, and crunchy nuts". This was unusual but still a very interesting treat to enjoy. All in all we had a great experience. The restaurant is no frills in terms of the decoration, but the service was attentive. This is a welcome addition to Durham's Indian food scene and we can't wait to visit again!

I was BLOWN AWAY by the food, ambiance and service at this beautiful Indian restaurant! From cocktails to dessert everything is presented so beautifully. We tired a lot of dishes chestnut pepper fry, 16th century paneer, baby corn, zesty cauliflower, lobster moilee, koftas, moong dal makhni and korma gone south. Everything was absolutely delicious! We were celebrating my nieces bday and the staff put together a beautiful dessert presentation that made her evening! I highly recommend this place.

We were very impressed by both the food and the service. We each had a mojito and shared the cauliflower appetizer, which was so delicious (and filling). For our main entrees we had chicken tikka with garlic naan. They grind up their own spices which was apparent. It was so flavorful! The staff was very attentive and even brought us extra rice to take home with our leftovers. Highly recommend!!!

As an enthusiast of flavorful food, I was excited to hear about Barsa's opening. The flavors did not disappoint. I would consider this fine dining with their Michelin Star chef. The service was not overbearing, but attentive, friendly, and there when you needed them. We had the appetizer pan seared fish in banana leaf, Baarish Ka Lamb, and Kaikari Korma. All delicious. I felt that they did a great job with good spice without being too "hot" or rich / oily. Really impressive. Ambiance was very nice--we were there in the evening. I felt the large windows would also be nice during the day. 5 stars! I'll be back

The staff were very friendly and it's a nice place, so I hate to criticize, but I gotta be honest. Firstly, the drinks. Among our table, we ordered a Mai Tai, a Whiskey Sour, and a Tamarind Margarita. The Mai Tai was so sweet it basically tasted like syrup -- undrinkable. The other two drinks were also way too sweet and lacking any alcohol content whatsoever. They really need to find a different bartender. As far as food, I really feel like the chefs aren't familiar with what Indian food is supposed to taste like. The chana masala was lacking in flavor, salt, and the tanginess that it's supposed to have. The palak paneer was also bland, and the spinach is normally chopped finer or even blended. The malai kofta was too sweet, and the menu didn't mention that it had raisins in it ... had that been clear, I wouldn't have ordered it. We also ordered dessert ... tried to get the rasmalai, but were told they ran out. So we got the gulab jamun and the kheer. The gulab jamun was fine. The kheer was awful. It was super thin and watery, instead of thick and creamy.

We have never been disappointed even once. What makes this place special is that their buffet menu is never static -- every single visit brings something new and exciting, whether it's a starter, entrée, dessert, or drink. There is always a surprise element, and I genuinely look forward to discovering what new item will win my heart that day. Let's talk variety -- because they deliver beyond expectations: At least 2 vegetarian and 2 non-vegetarian starters 4 flavorful curries 2 rice varieties 2-4 dessert options, plus a welcome drink and tea Even more adds-on during festival/holiday specials For anyone wondering about the taste -- it is exceptional. Truly unmatched in the RTP area. I've been to many Indian lunch buffets around here, but nothing comes close when considering taste, quality, and price together. You will always find at least one dish that hits your sweet spot and leaves you feeling fully satisfied. And speaking of hospitality -- Anand deserves a special mention. He is our guy every single time we visit. He welcomes us with a warm and genuine smile, checks in often, and ensures every detail is taken care of. Meeting him, enjoying the food, and feeling at home has genuinely become part of why we come back so often. Anand is amazing -- his service adds a personal touch that stands out in today's dining experience. Some people may ask whether they have live dosa/pani puri stands or fish fry counters -- no, but I assure you, you won't miss them because of the exceptional variety and flavor they already offer. You'll likely walk out with a happy heart, tight belly, and zero regrets. Their pricing is honestly unmatched for what they offer -- especially in this economy. Hats off to them for maintaining quality while staying affordable. If you live in Raleigh-Durham or are visiting the RTP area, you must try the weekend buffet at Lime & Lemon at least once. Chances are -- you'll go back again, just like we do. Highly recommended!

I ordered a dosa and an appetizer, which were splendidly presented on banana leaves. I asked for my Indo-Chinese paneer extra spicy, and they seemed a bit skeptical, but it did deliver a heck of a spice kick and an abundance of leafy tropical flavor (full curry leaves are common in this cuisine). The dosa was large, extra thin, quite salty, and satisfying. A chai was small and unsweetened. I didn't get quite the bustling atmosphere that their other location (in Cary) possessed and the menu for some reason did not have the kottu paratha I wanted to try, but I would definitely recommend anyone seeking some South Indian food to come here.

Stepping into the…read morerestaurant we saw a nicely decorated area with a variety of classic dining tables with home style chairs and booths. The server seated us at a table with a basket in the center and explained that everything we needed was inside. There was a card with a monkey printed on it and if we needed the server's attention we should put the monkey card up like a tent. We ordered food and it was decent -- not the best Indian food I've had as it wasn't spicy at all, but the flavors were fine. Despite us not putting up the monkey card, the server was attentive and filled our waters regularly. It was a good experience and I'd recommend coming here if you're around Durham!

The good: - The decor and ambience is excellent, I love the thoughtful design and wanted to take photos of everything! - The service was friendly and explained the dishes well - The mango lassi was heavenly, I'd come back just for the drink, loved the cardamom flavor! - most of the meat was halal! - The chettinad chicken was delicious, like the best thing we tried. Flavors were great and I liked the texture. - the garlic naan was different from most Indian restaurants and more bread like but heavenly, I've tried naans like this before and so glad I could taste it here too! - the fish moilee, low key felt a little expensive for what it was but at least it tasted good! I like the tangy coconut flavors though the paratha it came with was disappointing, but flakey and very dry. Room for improvement: - We ordered the jaggery chicken because it's not something we usually see on menus, I wouldn't call it an Indian dish but an elevated chicken roast and I liked it a lot! Unfortunately it wasn't hot or warm when we ate it so we took most of it home to reheat. I also feel like it should have come with some sides, tandoor dishes typically do like even a little side salad would have been nice because it was too dry to eat with naan. - the aloo tiki chat was not it. It was potato wedges with some sev sprinkled and barely any yogurt. It definitely needed a lot more going because it was super dry and not flavorful. Nonetheless I'd return to try the mango lassi again and try their featured cake!

The inside is beautifully decorated perfect for celebrations or date night. Now onto the food and service. Service was good, food arrived in a timely manner so I have no complaints. I tried a few things on the menu: mango lassi to drink, hummus chaat (not on online menu from what I saw), butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, chili garlic noodles, and a variety naan bread basket. When I say EVERYTHING was delicious, it seriously was. I scraped every bit and looked forward to eating leftovers the next day. The portions were fair for the price. I also liked that you could choose the level of spiciness for each item. I definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to try Indian cuisine. I will definitely be coming back to try more items from their menu.

We were seated immediately and ordered drinks which were out promptly. Jaljeera, wine and the cocktail urban turban special. I loved my jaljeera, perfect sweet and tangy spicy flavour. For starters we ordered chicken chapli kabab, tandoori fish tikka and dahi ke kabab. Dahi kebab was the winner, it was crispy and soft and went perfectly well with its sweet gravy which was good twist to this simple appetizer. My second favorite was the chapli kabab, it was so soft and juicy and very light on spice. Their fish dishes were a little disappointing, I guess the fish and preparation both were not impressive. For main course we ordered their malabar fish curry which again was a disappointment, punjabi chicken curry which was pretty good, but the daal bukhara stole our hearts, very well prepared and flavourful dish. We couldn't stop ourselves from ordering some desserts, so we ordered their balu shahi with Rabri and gulab jamun with icecream. Rabri was great, but balushahi was big, seemed undercooked and bland. It's very difficult to mess up gulab jamun so that was good. The service was fast and the people were so friendly. We paid tip over the bill that already had gratuity included since we dint know, and the person came back with money and returned it saying the gratuity is included. We loved the honesty and warm gesture of the people working there. I am really looking forward to visiting this place again soon and trying their other dishes.

It's a casual restaurant but all the decor and the modern touches with Indian influence gives it a great sultry vibe. Food: top notch. Thus far is our favorite Indian restaurant out there. The naan itself is freshly made and SOFT, thick, and has a nice chew. Best naan in the triangle area. Highly recommend the bread basket as you get a good variety of their different naans. The paneer pakora is crispy, piping hot, and has a great cumin and lightly salted taste. In the middle is mint chutney so it's has nice layers of flavors. The lamb palak was super tasty as well! The spinach was nice clay cooked where it was creamy with no bitter after taste. The lamb was fall apart tender! The lamb jalfrezi was also a show stopper, it was spiced, slight tomato sauce, and lambs again, super tender that can be broken up with just fingers. The malai chicken was good, but wasn't our favorite. The meat is tender, but I felt like the flavor wasn't hitting as much as the other two. It was lighter and even with the lemon it still felt like it was missing something. Overall: will definitely be coming back!

Service was friendly and attentive (probably helped that it was just us), and there was plenty of seating. The menu has all the classic Indian dishes you'd expect, and portions are decent. Food-wise, everything was good and hit the spot, but nothing really stood out. Overall, it's a reliable, standard choice--worth checking out if you're in the mood for Indian, especially for takeout!
