A year ago today we took our cat in to Barstow Animal Hospital to be euthanized. It was the most…read morepainful mistake of my life. The primary purpose of euthanasia is to give an animal a "good death" free of any suffering or pain. It was anything but. Before they took him to insert the stent he had been calm, totally chill, oblivious to things. They brought him back in major distress, too weak to stand or move, scared to death. Shortly thereafter he vomited, began choking on it and had to be administered the lethal dose. We had been told that when they brought him back we would "have all the time we wanted with him to say goodby." Not only did our cat suffer needlessly and excessively, but we were robbed of any time with him to say goodby as promised. In shock and disbelief, we were left with the pain of this to carry for the rest of our lives. They didn't seem to care about any of it.

When they say it's a suite, it really is. The facility is clean and organized. Each kennel have an AC/heat with tv and a doggie door to a covered dog run with secure fencing. The owner is very accommodating as I had to leave out of town on an emergency while my dog just got her spayed stitches removed. They asked about my dog feeding times, the amount and if I free feed her. They also made sure that my pup knows how to use the doggie door before I left the facility. You can't ask for any more from a family run facility with a 24 hours monitor and 3 times a day dog walking/day. The price is also very reasonable.

In Nov when adoption is low and other humane societies are as low as 20.00, these animals here have no chance of rescue. This place is in horrific condition and animal cruelty at it's worst. Something you expect to see in other poverty stricken countries. My heart aches for these animals in suffering laying on wet, cold , overcrowded, drenched floors of pee and poop in the cold with no beds or blankets begging to get out.
