My mother's partner recently received terrible news: he has stage 4 cancer. My mother has become his caregiver, and, as anyone who has been in that situation knows, it is a very demanding role. His insurance company hasn't been making it any easier by requiring pre-authorization for his medications, a convoluted process that meant he was without them for several days while she tried unsuccessfully to navigate the company's bureaucratic nightmare. Sleep-deprived, worried sick, and no picture of health herself, she was reduced to tears by the fourth day. She's been a customer of the Bartell in Silver Lake since I was a kid, and it was located next to the now-defunct Olson's grocery store. We're used to their great service, clean stores, and large selection of products, but a staff member named Gayle (sp?) really went above and beyond for us. I explained the situation to her as best I could, not having spoken to the insurance company myself, and the fact that my mom's explanation was a bit unclear, given her state of mind. Gayle readily took her number, got in touch with her, and the situation was rectified within hours, making a very difficult situation just a little bit easier. I have routinely gone to this pharmacy for the past 12 years and have had decent customer service. I scheduled a vaccine and went to the drop off window as instructed to check in. It took almost 5 minutes for the pharmacist Charles to acknowledge me, and it was only to tell me that the gal at the front window would help me after I told him that I was there for an appointment. After another 5 minutes the pharmacist walks by the window again ignoring me. Another woman shows up about 3 minutes later and asks if I have been helped. I tell her that I had an appointment for a vaccination. She then took my information and let me know that the pharmacist would call me when he was ready. 20 minutes later the pharmacist, who seemed to be put out to be helping me in any way, asked if I still wanted my vaccination, after, I asked if I should reschedule because they seemed too busy to honor the appointment that had been made, and I was unsure at that point when I would be seen. I shouldn't have to sit around for over a half hour for a scheduled appointment. Customer service was lacking today mainly from Charles, the other employees were obviously busy and doing their best. I have been going to Bartell's for a long time. I am NOT going to continue shopping here. I told them I was going to need A medication in one week. I called to remind them the day before I needed it, and they said it would be ready the next day after 4 pm. I called to confirm it was ready. Of course, it was NOT! I was informed it would be available the next Monday. this is not an isolated incident. Now I will have to drive to drive to Seattle to pick it up in rush hour traffic. Talk about poor serves. OMG... I was out doing errands today (one of which was to pick up my prescription. I checked the internet to see when their lunch closure would be. Lunch is 1:30 to 2:30 pm. I waited in the drive-through line (bum leg/hip) and got to the window at 1:18 pm. The pharmacist (John -19th Ave/112th in Everett) condescendingly told me to go park and come inside. I said that there were still twelve minutes. He said, "We close the drive-through at 1:15 (not on their website or phone message). I asked to pick up my prescription. He said, "I've given you your options,:" He then dropped the window blind. I parked and went inside. I was fit to be tied. I went inside, waited some more, and told him what horrible service he provided. A woman in the pharmacy started making excuses for him, and I told her to kick rocks. No cussing, no swearing. This is specifically for the Pharmacy. Doesn't have a RELIABLE auto refill or notification method's available. I also had to wait a solid hour just for an inhaler prescription while I was dealing with Covid. Other pharmacies try to squeeze in time to speak with you where as here they seem to avoid you at all costs. I came again to pickup my partners scrips and again was left disappointed. This Bartells will have you waiting hours for a prescription through the drive thru. The service isn't great, the pharmacy techs are rude.

So I got bit by a cat and needed antibiotics, I had them set to pick up at this bartells, but when I went there and asked for my prescription the next day (should already be there) they said it wasn't there and it was at a rite aid. I called the clinic I went to and they said it was delivered to this bartells around 12:45 the previous day. I ended up having the clinic resend them to a different bartells since it never showed up in their system and my bite was getting worse so I didn't want to take any chances. The point of this review is if you need a prescription, have it delivered to a different store. read more

I'm leaving this review because in the midst of all the pharmacy chaos these guys do a great job and are always kind. Mostly, I'm leaving this because of their lead pharmacy technician Robin. I used to love shopping Bartell drugs!! Locally owned, unique gift ideas, friendly staff and quick pharmacy!! Ever since Rite Aid purchased Bartell's, the store has gone DOWNHILL!! It took 3 days to get my prescription filled!! Every time I call or come to get my prescription, I get told, "We have "X" amount of prescriptions in the queue or we are "X" behind". I don't need to hear how far behind you are. Just fill my prescription!!I know you are short handed! Everyone is! Staff is no longer very friendly. The Pharmacy staff at Bartells in Silver Lake on 19th St. Is absolutley abhorrent, offensive, incompitant, deceiving, and extremely unprofessional! I didnt get names of who I spoke with and im extremley dissappointed in my self I didn't. I can't even begin to put into words how irrate I am. I had a prescription sent to them by my doctor and was told the first time, it's being denied for other insurance update. (I used to work for an insurance company) insurance companies do this to delay paying claims. I called my insurance, to update my COB (coordination of benefits) then I called back to the pharmacy, it's still denied for COB, finally that cleared a d they say it's now denied for being too early to fill. They said another pharmacy filled it. I explained in detail yes it was filled and sent to my doctors office for pick up there, but I had to reschedule my appointment and I didn't pick it up, and it was cancelled and returned, hence my doctor sending it to YOU to fill for pick up!!!!! I called my insurance company, and they said the other RX was cancelled, and it's an issue with Bartells, I called back to the pharmacy, the lady I spoke too said they need to verify with the other pharmacy they didn't fill it. I gave her the #. They were closed. Seriously???!!! Luckily I still have some medication, otherwise I would have been out of luck and clearly they don't care!! The lady at Bartells assured me that she would escalate this first thing in the morning when she got in, well of course she reneged on her promise and nothing was done. I called after I got off work, asking if my RX is ready for pick up, the lady said no it's too early to fill. I said what did the other pharmacy say? She said, what do you mean?? I had to take a minute and collect my self because I was so infuriated, I told her the lady I spoke to last night was supposed to call the pharmacy and I gave her the number she said I don't know who you spoke to and I said it was the lady that was working last night but either way you guys reneged on your promise and I'm still without my prescription because you guys didn't do what you say you were going to do!! I called my insurance company and they said it's an issue on Bartell's end and they show that the other prescription was canceled and returned my insurance company tried to reach out to them but of course no one picked up and then by this point they were closed. Here we are Sunday and my prescription should have been filled on Wednesday 5 days later this issue is still not handled because the staff is too incompetent to do their job. I called today Sunday and they said it's still being denied because it's too early to fill I said I spoke with my insurance company they show that it's canceled they said to have you guys cancel the claim and reprocess it so they did and they said oh it went through but because it's a schedule to medication and it's on the State website we have to call the other Pharmacy and verify with them that it was canceled even though they already have confirmation because clearly it wouldn't have gone through or even been allowed to go through if I would have already gotten the medication at another Pharmacy! When I started talking mentioning that the lady that I spoke with on Wednesday or Thursday was supposed to have handled this and didn't call the other Pharmacy and of course no one wanted to take responsibility for that she said I was being rude & yelling which Is a lie, I was understanding, considering the circumstances she said let me talk I can help you, I let her talk & while I'm talking the pharmacist interrupted me was extremely rude condescending & unprofessional. I absolutely think that customer service training might benefit that entire department. My RX is still not filled, luckily I still have some left over from previous, but if I didn't I would be absolutely miserable or dead. Because it's a schedule 2 medication I felt I was treated like a criminal a Savage & drug seeker. Location is the only reason they even get a star. I dread going to this pharmacy. While prescription delivery is free, I take advantage of this to avoid the rude staff. I was all alone in line and a woman was right in front of me working on the computer. We make eye contact. I get it, finish what your doing. But she puts the paper down and grabs another one and starts typing again. I move closer, jingle my keys, sniff, move closer. No, "Hi! I'll be with you in a minute" or "I'll get someone to help you". Other staff walking around. Finally someone else helps me because my face is pressed up against the plexiglass. I'd like to say this is a one time occurrence, but it's not. I've waited at the drive they window for over 10 minutes (multiple times. Sometimes, I just leave. I'm in the drive thru for a reason and can't come inside. But if they want me dragging my screaming kid with an ear infection through the store, fine). They know I'm there. I've pushed the button. Acknowledge me! Smile once in a while. Make me think you enjoy your job or just life in general. read more

What poor customer service in the pharmacy. Called to make sure they take United Healthcare. They assured me they did. Had prescriptions transferred and was waiting for a call that never came stating they were ready. Went to pick them up. Turns out they don't take my specific United Healthcare. They could've at least called me back to let me know instead of wasting 2 hours of my time when I could've had my medication filled elsewhere. Instead I'm having to run around town and wait again elsewhere to get my meds. Not ideal at all, especially considering I have bronchitis and I feel terrible. I've had poor experiences with Bartell's in the past. For a family company they definitely do not take pride in the quality of their service in the pharmacy departments of this and the 180th in Bothell location. read more

This review is strictly for the pharmacy. We're at about 3 years now since they were bought out by Rite Aid I believe. I feel like I've been more than patient with them as far as not being able to reach them on the phone, constantly having to come back the following day for prescriptions that should have been ready the previous one, and things there just generally moving at a glacial pace. But this past Sunday may have been my breaking point. I called to check on a refill for one of my wife's prescriptions that she's had filled there for several years and the Pharmacist starts asking me what seemed like an excessive amount of questions, all because she had a separate prescription from there filled at a different pharmacy because they had run out. She then had me put my wife on the phone, and ended up questioning her why her doctor would prescribe the two prescriptions together. I'm sorry but how is that her job, or even her business quite frankly? These are two valid prescriptions that she's been filling there monthly for several years now. Maybe she was filling in, new, or both but frankly I don't care this time. This felt unacceptable to me, just thought it should be seen in case someone from there is reading these. read more

Overall, I'm really happy with the store. It's clean, close to home and I can get in/out quickly. Yesterday however, my daughter and I encountered the worst employee I've ever dealt with in a retail setting. Checking out with only one item and being the only people in his check stand, we were apparently an inconvenience to him. Never acknowledged us, not even a nod. Scanned our one item and flicked it towards us followed by our receipt 10 seconds later. It made us feel like we had done something wrong. Even my 17 year old daughter kind of laughed when we got to the parking lot and said "Wow! What was HIS problem?" My advice... if you're THAT unhappy about your job, quit. I loved Bartells but this pharmacy is a total shit show since Rite Aid took over. They have filled a prescription incorrectly on 2 occasions for colonoscopy prep. Other prescriptions were not filled when auto phone system said they would be ready. Wasted trips. Then they had the audacity to refill a prescription that I didn't need yet because their computer system said it was time. Today I tried speak directly to pharmacy staff and after a minute of phone ringing, got voicemail. Gave them my name, DOB, and the prescriptions I needed refilled, and please call or text me back. That was 6 hrs ago. Just tried them again and THE VOICE MAILBOX IS FULL. Looks like I'll have to drive over just to give them my prescription. Locally I have Safeway and Costco so I'll be taking my business elsewhere. This pharmacy really sucks. read more

Riteaid owns Bartell Drugs and since has been making great efforts to drag the Bartell Drugs name through the slough. Cutting staffing to bellow minimum so that every faithful customer here would have terrible service at the expense of employee wellbeing. I speculate that Riteaid has a plan to lose every possible customer so they can rebrand the store to Riteaid and act like Bartell Drugs was a different company that disappointed everyone. Don't be fooled. Bartell Drugs is a brand of extreme customer satisfaction that Riteaid is doing everything they can to destroy their good name, with hopes people won't relate the experience to Riteaid. 3 employees in the pharmacy to handle 3 shifts per day, 7 days a week? This is total disregard for their employees well being. Driving employees to quit so they don't have to pay unemployment. Reducing employee counts to reduce how much they would have to pay in severance packages when the close shop before trying to rebrand to Riteaid. When you experience disappointment here remember it was Riteaid's doing, not Bartell's. read more

Every employee I've interacted with has been super friendly and helpful! I've never had a bad experience calling them or asking for help in the store. The pharmacy at this location has a drive-through, which does get backed up and service can be slow. You might get faster service by just going in to the pharmacy counter. All of the pharmacy techs have also always been very friendly! read more

What a complete shit show in the pharmacy. They have really gone down over the years but when rite aid took over it was a constant battle to get a simple refill that was on file. I would have to call everytime and my kids takes several medications. I would get texts that my refill is ready to be picked and up I would go to the store and they would tell me no, that refill has not been filled yet. I would have to call to order and also to verify it was ready because the app and online portal wouldn't refill the prescriptions. And often they were so busy they couldn't even answer the phone. I even called the main store one time and asked if the pharmacy was being robbed and if they were held at gun point cuz nobody was answering the phone after multiple calls. When you have the regular refill problems and the fact that my daughter takes a C2 medication, rite aid's new policy is they only give you a 2-day early window to pick up your c2 meds but they piss away a day or two of that just getting them refilled. I have 50/50 custody with my ex-wife and trying to get the exact number of pills to be in her house in a different city and my house in a different city and then go to pick up the meds within a two-day window and not be out of meds at my house is pretty much impossible. I already transferred to a different pharmacy and all my prescriptions are leaving Bartell's . I called corporated and taked to the receptionist for a while documenting my complaints. She said somebody would call me that was a month and a half or so ago no one's ever called me nobody gives a shit about this store. And now I don't give a shit either cuz I'm gone read more

This place is hot and cold. Some days, you get a nice, warm greeting at your entry. Other days, you're invisible. Some days you get served at the pharmacy quickly and with friendliness. Other days, you wait in a long line and then still must wait even longer even though you got a text your prescription is ready or even though you are waiting for the "fast and easy" flu shot and yet it's anything but. I continue to use this place, as it's some version of going local (even if it's a local chain), but they need to work on consistency or just upping their customer service in general. Did I really not write about my flu shot experience? I want to say a bit more--I arrived, asked for the shot, proceeded to wait 30 minutes, and then another ten, and then the person giving me the shot took me to a room, sneezed on her hand, and gave me the shot. I complained, and she said it was "just allergies." Regardless, as a public health professional, that's just gross, and risky. WTF? Plus I have this gift card, and every time I try to use it, it's a huge hassle; it won't slide properly and takes the clerk forever to figure out how to enter the numbers manually (and they usually give up after one or two tries and try to push me away, but I have to insist). Bartell's does have Seattle Chocolates bars though, and they are super yum. Bottom line: I continue to use this pharmacy because it's close and "local" but in no way do I think they are great or project the family-orientation they boast. read more

My family has used the Bartells on 19th ave in Silverlake for over 20 years. The employees are kind and helpful. The store is alway clean and free from clutter. A few years ago, Barells brought in a new pharmacist and she made life miserable for the employees. We missed Dee and Mary. Many of the employees left the pharmacy because of this woman. Sad that Bartelles does not value their employees. There was also a manager that made the employees miserable. Once she left, the employees were so much happier. Happy and satisfied employees make a store shine. I have never worked for Bartells. We have a large family and we have quite a few prescriptions so I am at the store at least twice a week. I appreciate the employees and am thankful for their professionalism and kindess. read more

I just transferred quite a few prescriptions to this pharmacy and am very impressed, so far. The pharmacy manager is exceptional and has been patient & understanding with all questions/problems I've experienced. The only reason I've provided less than five stars is due to a couple of staff members that don't seem to understand or care about what customer service means. After picking up a number of prescriptions one day, I discovered an item was, apparently, missed "on the shelf"; however, when I called to inquire about this prescription the only response I could obtain was based on whatever their computer told them. No one took the few minutes and/or steps to walk over or actually check to see if the prescription may have been left. This was very unexpected & frustrating to be treated as a liar without any regard for what I was explaining. I was told I had to come in to speak to the manager the next day, but they failed to say anything about when she worked on that day. Upon my arrival, around 8:30am, I discovered the manager was closing, so another trip would have been needed; but, the two women working that morning discovered the one prescription had, indeed, been missed on the shelf. One individual talks very fast (on the phone) & always passes me off to someone else when I try to explain I have a hard time processing information and/or if I start to get frustrated. I have always enjoyed exceptional service from Bartell Drugs and expect some customer service training will elevate this location to what I've always encountered. I love this Bartell's Pharmacy...it is my GO-TO Pharmacy!! The entire staff is Amazing: Jenni, Kristi, April, Corey, Carli, Scott and Rania..They all go above and beyond to help me out!! I have come running in with 4 prescriptions at 5 minutes before closing and they always take great care of me! Also, I was in in between jobs for 3 months and didn't have insurance during that time and they are always patient with me and my questions. The are willing to help me figure out the best cost for my meds and they accept the GOOD RX coupon, which is a HUGE HELP! This is a review for the pharmacy only. I stopped in about 11:00am to ask that a prescription be transferred to this store from a different pharmacy. The woman at the counter told me they would get in contact with the other pharmacy and that the prescription would be filled by early afternoon. When I went back at 5:00pm, they had called the other pharmacy, but did not have the prescription filled. The woman told me it would be a 15 minute wait. 45 agonizing minutes later, I finally got the 2 prescriptions I needed. I will not be going back. read more
