Was recommended this company from my neighbor. Got my dying tree removed and my services were swift. The company rep for my area is very knowledgeable of what issues were occurring in my yard. Not a reliable company, difficult to get a response. I called a half a dozen times during regular business hours and 1 time someone answered. I left messages other times and I received 1 return call. Scheduled an appointment for an arborist to come and look at my trees on my day off. I had a lot of stuff to get done, waited around and no one showed up. Appointment was at 3pm, I called at 3:15, was surprised they actually answered. The reception said she would call Greg and either she would call me back or would have Greg call me back. Neither did. I called back a 2nd time, no answer and told them not to bother coming because their customer service is terrible. read more

Bartlett Tree Experts in Finksburg, MD, completed their second job for me today and I was (again) delighted with the experience. I first used them over five years ago for tree removal and maintenance. Today's job was to remove a sadly diseased Japanese Maple and several arborvitae that had taken over the front of my house. I suspect Bartlett isn't the cheapest but you get what you pay for. On both occasions, I met with a licensed arborist who presented a variety of options I could exercise depending on budget. Upfront pricing, clear explanation of proposed work and options, and NO HARD SELL. I know I will need additional tree work before long and I won't call anyone else. And one more thing...the arborists were on time (if not early) for our estimate appointments. Two great experiences over five years apart isn't a coincidence. Thanks Bartlett! read more

I called them on a Tuesday about an Eastern Hemlock with woolly adelgid on my property. They said they would come out the next day to look at it and give me an estimate. Having not heard from them, I called them a few days later and again the following week. When I called back the second time, I spoke with someone who said they did look at the tree and that someone would be contacting me shortly to talk about it. It's been more than a week since that last phone call. I've heard nothing and I haven't received anything by email either. Clearly, they don't want my business. I called a different company that can treat woolly adelgid. They came out the same day and sent me a quote two days later. read more

I signed a contract to have Bartlett Tree Experts in Finksburg do extensive tree and shrub pruning on my one acre lot in September 2021 in anticipation of putting my house on the market in the spring of 2022. The arborist offered a 10% discount on the job if I waited until January 2022 when they are less busy to have the work done, and the contract stated that all the work would be done in January. They didn't show up in January so I called the office in February and was told I was in the queue of work to be done. I called the office several times in March and April to express my concerns about getting the work scheduled. I was finally given two consecutive dates that the entire job would be done but no one showed up on the first day. They did come the following day and do half of the job, but the arborists who did the work that day didn't know when the other crew would come do the second half of the job. I called the office the next morning to ask when the work would be completed and was told that they couldn't schedule it until Miss Utility marked the utility lines, which had been done the previous day while their crew was there working. I called the office and left messages for the arborist who had drawn up the proposal to call me and also left voicemails on his cell phone, but he did not return my calls. I was sent a bill for the work that had been done but I should not have been billed until the contract was completed in its entirety. The house was put up for sale in May with downed trees laying on the ground, unground stumps, and branches and debris strewn across the yard. The work wasn't completed until after the house was being shown, which did not help the curb appeal. I had to hire another company to trim some dead tree branches that were in the contract but were missed by Bartlett's pruning crew and to clean up the debris left by Bartlett Tree Experts. The contract stated that the work would be done in January but it was not completed until May. They don't seem to be very interested in providing good customer service. read more

I have a one-acre lot with a number of trees, mostly clustered in and around the front yard. I'm sure that before they reached their mature height they were perfectly spaced, but now (as the second owner of the house) I find them blocking sunlight to the flower beds and lawn below and obscuring the view to my home. I called three companies to walk the property with me and prepare quotes. One never responded to my online inquiry or phone call; one finally put me in touch with the proper person by forwarding my call to his voice mail after 3 separate calls; and Bartlett promptly set up an appointment that fit in with my schedule. Brian from the Baltimore office came out to take a look around. In the way of history, several years ago I contracted with a company specifically to thin crowns by 20-30% and to raise the canopy to increase sunlight. The company came recommended by a friend whom I thought understood some of the basics of gardening. As it turns out, a bunch a guys arrived in a couple of pickups and a shredder machine; many were clearly overweight, older, and out of shape. I specifically directed them not to simply top off trees, but to prune them appropriately, and went inside to work. When I came out, I was not pleased. Some trees had been topped off; none were properly thinned, and needless to say I learned my lesson about using "tree care specialists" who were not certified Arborists. Back to Barlett. I explained my objectives and concerns to Brian who listened carefully, then described his plan which included the removal of a tree that was close to the house; I hadn't considered that possibility. He also identified a few issues with some of my plants and recommended a treatment (e.g., a holly that was infested with mites under the surface of the branches). He has a very well-rounded understanding of all things plants. I appreciated his advice and took it (and the holly is really flourishing now!) Brian's plan did not include up-selling or talking me into things that were not needed. His plan was focused on the objectives I had described. He pointed out some issues with other trees that I had not noticed; in most cases recommending a wait-and-see approach before doing anything like spraying, and in one case recommending that broken branches due to a storm be removed from a large fir tree in the side yard. I felt like I was getting a very comprehensive assessment. The Bartlett team arrived on time, and the 5 man crew were dressed appropriately (company tee-shirts, heavy canvas pants, boots) which was not my experience in the earlier situation described above. They were polite and the entire operation appeared to be a well-oiled machine - taking down two trees, thinning crowns and raising canopies on 6 other mature trees including a mature pin oak, and grinding one stump. There was no goofing off and the team finished in one day. They were polite and very hard-working climbing to the tops of trees and not taking short-cuts. They seemed to use their safety equipment very well (climbing rigs, hearing protection, hard hats and so forth.) They carefully cleaned up all debris and removed it. I'd also like to point out that their equipment has treads which really helps to minimize damage to lawns since their weight is more fully distributed. They had a grinder, a machine to carry branches in a large bunch, and one other which I can't seem to recall at the moment. Can I tell that equipment traversed my yard? Yes, of course I can. But it will bounce back in a day or two and in fact looked very good this morning, less than 24 hours after the work was completed. I'll use Bartlett in the future, as I have another area behind my house that needs attention. But, since my daughter is getting married early next year, I thought I'd save some cash and defer that work for now. Get your quotes from other companies, but be sure to include this company in your decision. They may not the least expensive, but they offer a great value in my opinion. read more

We've hired Bartlett to do tree work for us in Hershey twice now and their work has been superlative. Mark Wheeler and arborists Chris and Ethan restored two old overgrown magnolias beautifully, removed major limbs from ancient tulip trees and restored two old cherries to their natural beautiful shapes. They also shaped two newer trees getting them off to a good start. The team was courteous, communicative, hard working. They left our place cleaner than when they arrived. We felt the charge was very reasonable and their expertise unquestionable. They truly made our property more attractive. And we've scheduled them to come back in the fall. We used Bartlett occasionally for spot treatments, and they highly recommended that we get a service contract for prevention and maintenance. About 9 months in, I was playing with my dogs near the back of our property (which is the edge of a large field, with 5 gorgeous weeping willows, very visible). Two of the trees looked like their trunks were rotting and that death was imminent. Whatever was going on was clearly happening for quite some time. I called Bartlett and they came out and looked, and said, "Yup, they will die". They had no explanation as to why they didn't treat, or at least let us know that they were in trouble - which is exactly what we paid them for. I'm still scratching my head over that. We paid nearly $1000 for this program, and it will cost at least another $1000 in tree replacements. I truly think they just never looked at the trees, and didn't want to admit it. Five is not enough stars! Super professional and skilled, and truly a pleasure to do business with. These are not just guys with chainsaws...they are true experts who know their stuff and genuinely love trees. We had an overgrown and mal-formed pear tree in danger of falling on our house. They listened carefully to our concerns and created a plan that focused not only on protecting the house but on saving the tree and making sure it grows properly in the future. They showed up with a cherry-picker and a wood-shredder, made hanging precariously from a tree with a chainsaw look easy, cleaned up everything thoroughly after they were done, and even honored our request to keep some of the wood, stacking it neatly into split-able sizes. And they did it all with a smile. A million thanks to Marty (our original assessor) and to Victor and the two other guys whose names I wish I had gotten (the team that did the work.)
