We have had Bartlett come out for our tree management for a number of years. This year, their representative JP, quoted a very high price - about $3200, and included things we did not ask for, or were not needed, per their own appraisal. I sent two emails to JP asking if some services were really needed (they were not, per his appraisal but were included in the proposal/estimate). Got no reply. Then I called their office and the lady there said she would talk to JP to reply to my emails. Still no reply. I sent yet another email requesting a reply - no reply again. . One thing that was upsetting was that JP was very rude, when he came to look at the trees this time. Some of our trees have branches over our neighbor's yard and we wanted to make sure that their concerns are noted and cared for. When I mentioned checking with our neighbor, JP's response was that he didn't have time to sit around all day and left quickly. Well, they expect us to pay thousands of dollars (and we have paid a lot over the years) but do not have time to listen to our concerns. For a professional company, this response from their representative was shocking. It appears to me that the cost estimate sent to us was done hurriedly, basically copying and pasting from estimates they had sent us in the years past, without paying attention to what was actually said by JP, or discussed with us. We researched for another company that treats its customers right, is reasonably priced, and have representatives that are polite and respectful. And we found one that was about $1,000 cheaper and did a great job, actually better than what Bartlett had done before. Not recommended. read more

I have used Barlett to care for a large tree in my front yard. They seem to have been able to do this. The agent recommended I have the base of the tree mulched in order to protect the roots, which I agreed to. The team came to mulch. I spoke with them about mulching other areas and they said that they only had six bags for my job. This ended up being a blessing. They mulched an area approximately two, two and a half feet around the tree. It took them 20 minutes. I was billed over $700.00 for the six bags and their time. I have tried repeatedly to speak with the agent and resolve what I consider overbilling. He says that the issue is being addressed in the meantime I have revied multiple invoices since May, each with a late fee attached. I think they are either unorganized or rip people off. read more

I wanted to add a tree to our front yard and I had heard good things about Bartlett Tree Experts so I contacted them. I paid for a preliminary soil analysis, the purchase and installation of a 12' Willow Oak, and one or two rounds of fertilization. The tree failed to prosper. After the first year, the top half was clearly dead. I paid more to have them saw the top half off. Over the next year or so, the tree continued to die, branch by branch, from the top down. When he took the trouble to respond to my emails, all I ever heard from the Bartlett representative, Joe Parrot (very knowledgeable about trees, very bad at returning emails), was to "wait and see". Late last year I asked him to replace the tree. He claimed that there were no suitable trees available. I decided that I had finally had enough and asked him to remove the tree. I was impressed by his nerve when he offered to remove the tree and grind the stump for a further charge $300. I have spent over $2,000 with Bartlett for various services and in return I have watched a tree gradually die over a period of three years. I had to follow up twice to get scheduled and on the day they were supposed to arrive - NO show. No call to confirm. Sent an email asking for an update - NO response. Called the office - Voicemail. Called Garrett, the arborist who provided a quote - Voicemail. Whatever you do, don't pay up front (I didn't) for these guys. Very disappointing. read more

We live in Westbury and during the Sunday, April 7th storm our 60 year old Hackberry split in two and on to our roof. I emailed Erik at Bartlett Tree Experts that day to see if they had availability early the next week. Erik emailed and came out that same day as the storm (which was a day they weren't even open). Erik took pictures and give us a quote on the Hackberry tree and a Water Oak limb that fell on our neighbors roof. His team came out on Tuesday (2 days later), completed the project, and everyone was extremely professional. Notably, because they were so expeditious, we were able to get the damage in our roof repaired the same week we had a tree come through the roof. We have used 4 different arborist and this company is by far the most professional, knowledgeable, and empathetic. Further, you can tell when they come out that the love what they do! I don't know what makes a 5 star Tree Service Provider.....Let me just say....I think this is it... My wife met Erik The Arborist from Bartlett at the Houston Home Show and she asked him to come over and look at our 3 mature oak trees and 2 very tall pine trees. These trees have not been trimmed in over 8 years. Anyway......Erik came over and gave us an estimate. It wasn't the cheapest nor the most expensive. It was in the middle of the pack. The reason we chose Bartlett was because of Erik. His analysis confirmed the other two bidders opinions of our trees. Plus he was so knowledgeable and friendly. He taught us a few things we didn't know about trees.....(nice) So we moved forward and scheduled the service. The workers arrived on time and each one introduced themselves to me. They were all garbed in safety gear and were very pleasant. They got right to work and were so quiet I hardly noticed them.... 8 hours later, I realized they were gone. I went out and wow...just wow..the trees look great and there is so much more light in the yards..... That night I got an email from our next door neighbor. She wanted to comment on the Tree Team....She said she was so impressed at how they left her yard in better condition than before they started work. She thanked us for selecting such a professional Tree Company. I then went outside and look where they had been working and dang if she wasn't right....The yard WAS clean.... So 5 stars it is.... After being referred by a friend who is a Master Horticulturalist, I made an appointment to meet with who was apparently the manager of the company. I mention his position because his behavior was abhorrent which gives me little hope for the company. I planned to meet him at the house during one of the few options available. I am a doctor and was running from clinic but can easily run the 5 minutes home to meet during lunch. My wife was there having taken time off on her birthday. She called me while he was there to remind me of his appointment. Instead of trying to help us, sort out the problem with the tree, have some interest and provide customer service, he upset her with his rude comments and indignation about me not being there. He stormed off. I called him angry that he had upset my wife on her birthday and granted I did yell at him some, he hung up on me. Do not call these people if you expect kind considerate customer service. To them, the wife of a family is apparently not worthy of their time or an owner of the tree. read more

A large limb broke during the night and fell across my driveway. Gene Basler has been caring for our trees for about 15 years, and had warned me about the fragility of this old water oak. I called them about 7:30 am and they were here, hard at work, by 8:15. They removed the huge limb and cleaned up everything and were done by 9:00. In the meantime, Gene called to check on me and explain the procedure. My neighbors and I are very happy, and I highly recommend these professional workers. read more

We had a big job to trim trees and to prepare our trees and their roots for a large house being built right behind our home. Erik (one of Bartlett's arborists) came out to visit with us and spent time discussing each tree and what should be done. His quote was reasonable and the work was done by a knowledgable, dependable and professional crew. They finished early so the bill was adjusted. Erik visited on the day of the tree trimming to make sure that the crew understood what needed to be done for each tree. In addition to trimming, we arranged for fertilizing all of our trees and insect spraying for a tree and shrub with a history of insect damage. We were very impressed by Erik's expertise, his relationship with our tree trimming crew, and the quality of the trimming and clean-up after the job was completed. read more
