When I first decided to have a couple large (15-20ft, 41 year old) trees in my yard removed, I gathered referrals from neighbors and NextDoor. I contacted 4-5 companies over a week for quotes, knowing availability, professionalism, service, and cost would vary across companies. I was able to schedule the initial quote with R F Trees with ease via text and they were very flexible with my schedule, responsive, and very communicative in coordinating - From coordinating the time, messaging me when Tony was on his way, and when he arrived (2minutes early, at that!). The quote took 15min, and Tony provided a written quote as well as current dates his crew could be available. As a female homeowner, I dread getting estimates for projects the same way I do when I take my car into the dealer for service...However, Tony was professional, provided a fair, reasonable, and comprehensive quote, and was genuine throughout. I told Tony I was getting quotes and would revert within a couple days. Tony was the most professional of the companies I considered, from a really cool and professional business card, to the comprehensive written quote, to his open and consistent communication throughout the process. Other companies showed up unscheduled ringing my doorbell for quotes (which is not ideal, as I work from home and have conference calls/meetings most of the day), only provided verbal quotes, or weren't as communicative. Although R F Trees was not the lowest priced quote (and also not the most expensive), I've learned with all services and contractors to get multiple quotes, but to also vet out and consider all interactions pre-project to minimize headaches during/after. The day of service went smoothly and as expected. The crew showed up as scheduled and got to work. They were on time (also, 5-10min early, worth mentioning again, as that almost never happens with service providers!) and completed the project within the estimated timeframe. The crew was very mindful of windows/my home (the trees were in a tight space between structures with multiple branches hanging over my roof), other trees/plants, gates and fences, patio furniture, and decor. They were also very conscientious of cleaning up - They did not leave a single stray twig or leaf behind and also ensured they closed every gate upon leaving! Ok I requested quotes at 3pm on Monday and Tony has come out and did a quote within one hour and had the job done by 11:30am the next day!!!! The process started and ended all less than 24 hrs!!!!!! Great experience with RF Tree Service -- if a little untraditional. The city came and trimmed the trees in the strip in front of my house, but left a 5-foot tall pile of branches. The city's pickup was weeks away, and the leaves were falling off the branches and becoming a mess on the sidewalk. With just a few hours notice, RF sent a crew by. They brought a chipper to take care of the branches, and all of the lawn equipment needed to clean up the fallen leaves. They left my front yard looking cleaner than before the city dropped by, and at a very fair price. Why didn't I call them sooner? We had multiple trees that needed some professional trimming - and one in particular that likely had to go. Our neighbor's tree was hovering over our house, causing some roof damage (according to a recent roof inspection). I used Request A Quote on Yelp, and Tony quickly responded and we set up an in-person inspection. He provided me a quote that same day, one for a trimming and a second for full tree removal (including the stump). The owner Tony and his team of about six others arrived and worked quickly to heavily trim three trees, along with other branches hovering over from neighboring properties. They worked fast, cleaned up on the tree mess, and hauled it away. It took less than two hours and I was pleased with the final price (which was slightly below the quote). Noice. Sadly, I can NO LONGER recommend RF Tree service. I am sad to do so, but when the chips were down they "NO SHOWED" twice and didn't return texts when I was trying to find out why. I, like so many others, experienced significant damage as a result of the derecho storm. Others suffered far worse and we are very aware of that. I have now had to employ another company to clear our yard or downed trees and stack the debris. RF Trees showing up unannounced after the other tree company finished clearing our yard was unacceptable. Not showing up as promised, not returning text and then offering an apology after the work is done is unacceptable for a repeat customer or anyone else for that matter. Had Tony and RF Tree Service told me that they could not do the job until Monday, then I would have immediately hired one of the many other companies that were knocking on my door and clearing the neighborhood. AFTERMATH: The power came on after 6 days and we came out better than many of our neighbors. Elias Lawn Service did a great job cutting up the trees and debris and hauling it to the curb. We have other tree work that needs to be done on our property as a result of the storm. However, RF Tree Service will NOT be considered for the additional work. Came home from the gym yesterday with a 100 foot tree covering my front yard and into the street. Had RF's card and got a quote over the phone. We've been looking to do tree trimming on our two large oak trees in the front yard and two in the back. I received RF as a recommendation from friends. I texted Tony the owner and he responded quickly and gave me a decent quote. I was looking for someone who cared about the customer and about getting the work done right. I could tell that Tony knew the right way to cut trees in a way that was matter of fact, not pushy. He quoted me a fair price and scheduled us in the next Saturday. The next Saturday they arrived 30 min ahead of schedule and went to work. Their all star crew made rapid progress. You could tell they weren't just shaving off haphazardly, but they were artfully trimming dead branches and branches/limbs pointing downward that needed to be cut off, leveling it out yet retaining the shape of the tree canopy. Along the way, Tony and his brother in law Tino were periodically directing the tree trimmers of how precisely to cut. They finished in 3 hours, even thinning down some extra bushy areas and pulling down some vine that tangled around one of our oaks. Tony is usually on the go, but took the time to talk. He explained the correct way of trimming trees, and patiently answered my questions on how to prune and maintain them. What I appreciated most was Tony's story of how he became a 2nd generation owner (ask him!). The two things that stuck out to me was his business ethic (making an honest living vs. making a killing) and integrity (how he cares for his team and trains them up, that he does what is best for the trees at an affordable price for the customer). And the tree trimming job was incredible. Before, the two oaks were like big mushrooms that hid our house. But 3 hours later, the trees were trimmed, big branches elevated, leaves thinned, front/back yards blown clean, and something we never saw in the front yard emerged - sunlight and THE FRONT OF OUR HOUSE.
