Went in hoping to see a specific refrigerator. They didn't have it on the floor but said one could be in by the next week. Then a weather-related delay pushed that back a week, so Carnival parades were starting in our neighborhood. Terri responded promptly to emails regarding its arrival on the floor, we went and saw it, and ended up purchasing it. She was able to arrange for it to be delivered first thing in the morning so we would have it before streets got blocked off. Delivery/installation guys she recommended are independent contractors and were great. They also hauled away the old fridge and said they'd donate it as I wished. No issues at all. read more

That however didn't take away from the fact that they had a decent inventory of some appliances that looked to be "scratch & dent" or perhaps factory seconds, along with what appeared to be thousands of new in-the-box appliances. The prices seemed reasonable. The sales person went out of her way to recommend another appliance store that did in fact, have what we were looking for. Good value at the office, but that's where it ends. The company they use for delivery and removal apparently likes to pretend that they have too much stuff on the truck to remove your old appliance upon delivery, and claims they will come pick it up later. But in reality they will leave it in your front yard, making your new appliance cost an extra $500 (in New Orleans at least,) from the citation you will get from code enforcement. And you will have to deal with romeving it yourself, as Barto's will gladly answer the phone when you call, and promise to call you back but never will. And their delivery company apparently never even answers the phone at all. Edit: after repeated phone calls and pestering them on Facebook, they finally sent someone out to remove the old fridge. I reached out to obtain a price on an air conditioner on several occasions and never received a response. The website does not list prices and you have to call or email to get a price on a product that you're interested in. Wait. I haven't written a review of Barto's yet? How is that possible? And it must be instantly added to the are you a homeowner list. I've been purchasing appliances from Barto since they were still located on Canal St (pre-K). They've always steered me right and only carry brands that they consider dependable. Yes, shopping with them is a bit odd, since there is a small trailer attached to the front of a warehouse and if you want to look at the displays, you walk out into the un-air conditioned space. But the prices are good and while you can arrange for delivery, you can also back your vehicle up and have your purchase loaded in. This is the place to go if you need a sampling of window units to look at. They have more stock than anyone else in city. But Steve M is correct, these are old school salespeople and you have to readjust yourself. Personally, I find the whole spiel pretty entertaining and they are not hard sell, but they do have opinions which is OK with me. read more

WARNING: I bought a Window A/C Unit with Heat December 2022. I figured since it was new it wouldn't have any issues. Being that is was still somewhat warm in New Orleans I didn't use the heat feature on the A/C. However, 4 days after securing the window unit in a window the temperature dropped. I attempted to use the Heat feature on the NEW UNIT but no heat came out. I unplugged it and plugged it in several times in an attempt to reset the until but still didn't work. I attempted to take the New A/C Unit back yo Barto to try to exchange it or Return it but was informed that they would not allow me to return it or give me a credit. They advised me yo contact Frigidaire for repair, however, the phone number they gave me does not give you an option to get it serviced. Also, it does not allow you to talk to a Real Person. Therefore, I'm stuck with paying for a Unit that does not perform properly. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THIS PLACE AGAIN. I would rather pay a little more at Home Depot or Lowes. Barto Appliance is a my go to store for any appliance. Their prices are cheaper than any of the big box stores, and I'd rather buy from a dependable local company like Barto. The sales staff are all friendly and knowledgeable about all of their products. They explain the differences in the models, and even recommended that I buy the mid priced refrigerator because it was basically the same as the high end one. (And it has been since the 80's when they were on Canal St.) I have, over the years, bought at least 5 or 6 window units from these guys. They carry only the best quality appliances, which might be a little more expensive, but they last longer over time. They sold me a brand new washer that only worked for 3 weeks! When I called them Gor service they told I had to contact Whirlpool on my own to try to get service. As I write this review, I am STILl on hold after 20 minutes. The other numbers they gave me refused to deal with me unless I contacted Whirlpool first. SHADY--UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP--AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I had been buying from Barto as a loyal customer for the last decade and proudly appreciated them as a local business. It was a partnership that I could trust. NO LONGER. The new owner, Brett, no longer stands behind his product. They brought me a dryer that had problems from the beginning. When their technician installed in improperly causing it to malfunction and break (he did not bother to screw the cord on properly), Brett, adding insult to injury, said that the best he could do for me was sell me a new one at a price that was $100 more than the one I had purchased. He said the problem was my electrical system even though I paid an electrician to come out and test and certify that there was nothing wrong with my outlet or my circuit. SOL! Why favor a local business if they don't know the meaning of the words loyalty or responsibility? Mr. Barto, the previous owner, would not have done the same. I can no longer use or recommend this business though I have given them several opportunities to do right, and it now seems I must take them to court. Worst place to buy appliances. Bought a stove here and it stopped working within a couple of weeks. When we called about it, they brushed us off and said to find a repairman ourselves. After dealing with different repair people for TWO months and it still not working, we called Bartos again. They said we could bring the stove in to swap for a comparable model. WE loaded the heavy stove into our car and toted it up to Barto's only to be told AFTER we got there that there were no stoves of comparable value - even though they had the EXACT stove we had purchased, but now marked up $250 more than what we paid originally. I love supporting local business... but buyers beware ! I went to Barto and my sales person was Frank Mumphrey.. who seemed very knowledgeable and assisted me with trying to find out what I wanted. After we looked at the items in the back, I picked out several Frigidaire appliances that I loved. At this time Frank told me about a "rebate" that would work perfectly for me, and if I picked out 3 items I would get a $150.00 rebate! Sealed the deal for me so I got 3 items I liked. Well I submit the paperwork for the rebate and I was told that the rebate was expired. Well I get with Frank and he told me that it was a error and he would help me to fix the problem, I guess this was the way of blowing me off : ( Since November 2017 I have been "working" with Frank to help solve the problem, but since December 15, 2017 Frank has refused to return phone calls and has not responded to emails. In and out in record time to purchase a dishwasher for a rental unit yesterday. And deciding to go local this time was the way to go. I did my research on models and vendors beforehand so I knew what budget I wanted to stay in, what I was willing to spend and not. Ordinarily I give my business to Sears but I had some friends have a good experience here so I thought I'd give it a shot. First off, conveniently located it is not, but you don't buy here because it's next to Grandma's (which it's not). Secondly, when you walk up, you see the warehouse, enter into an office, to get to the showroom. Set up a little odd, but whatever. Within seconds of entering I am warmly greeted by Joe. Who upon assessing my needs walks me right to where my choices on the showroom are. Proceeds to breakdown features, costs, warranties, etc. I make my choice. Walk back to the desk, a little smalltalk, setup delivery/install and voila, in like 7 minutes I've made my purchase for the amount of $ I wanted to spend and I'm out. I was not as impressed with this place as the other reviewers. The salesmen are kind of strange with their cheesy patter and there's more of an NYC vibe than friendly NOLA. The model seems to be to have high prices on the tags and then for the salesman to tell you the price has just been marked down, so you think you're getting a great deal. Really that marked down price is just a reasonable price, which you can probably match somewhere online. That being said, if you do your research beforehand and know exactly what you want, you can do OK here. read more

They are the absolute worst, I highly recommend using literally anyone else but them. Inefficient, lacks basic communication and organization skills w customers, and is unable to complete simple tasks such as replacing a washer/dryer. I hired them to change out a washer/dryer unit and it took about two weeks to complete. They would never give a 3-6 hour window, instead would request your entire day. Appliances can be expensive and I was a little apprehensive about using a local dealer vs. the big box stores. Barto's changed that for me. I priced a range and refrigerator at Lowe's and Best Buy, both items (same model #s) were less expensive. $50 less on the range and $100 on the fridge. The staff I dealt with were helpful (Joe and Frank) and both were adamant that they could work with me if I found a better price. It wasn't necessary in this case. This is truly a warehouse experience so if it's cold dress warm. They're a long time family owned business you may remember was originally located at the foot of Canal St. pre Katrina. They now operate directly out of their warehouse on Airline across from Hurwitz Mintz. Saving yourself money and supporting your local business, it's a win win! read more

Terrible customer service. Spent good money on a range which stopped working within less than a week. Have now been waiting 2 weeks for the repair but now the part is on back order so not sure when I will actually have an oven again. While watching the delivery guys unload the range, they lost control of the dolly and the stove slammed down from about a foot off the ground. I didn't say anything at the time because I was rushed to get to an appointment (delivery guys showed up 4 hours before scheduled even though Bartos confirmed multiple times that it would not arrive until the afternoon due to the appointment I had to get to). After talking to the repair company, I believe this fall caused the issue because they said this part is commonly damaged during shipping. Bartos refuses to do anything to remedy the situation so now I continue to wait for my brand new range to be in working condition. Still up in the air on when that will happen... read more
