I go here a lot, as I live very close, and it never fails to impress. I have tried many of the menu items, and I have liked all of them, thus far. The cookies, cakes, and pastries are also good. My personal recommendations are for breakfast, either French toast or oatmeal, for lunch, the veggie melt, and as far as bakery things go, I like the scones, snickerdoodles, and I know a while back I had the chocolate (I can't remember what it was called, but j think it had some sort of chocolate chips and mousse thing going on). The prices are okay, a tad high, but the food is good enough that they're pretty justifiable. The outdoor seating is nice (when weather permits), since it can be crowded inside if it's busy. read more

Absolutely amazing! I only visit this bakery once every few years since I now live across the country, but it is definitely worth the trip. Very upset about the service since the pandemic began. Employees will not answer the phone for orders. When you come in to order they are not kind and make you feel like an inconvenience. They claim to be open until 7 but close the kitchen at 6:30. This has happened at least 3 times to my family. Extremely disappointed in what used to be one of our favorite places in town. read more

Like a previous reviewer, I'd just gotten blood work done down in the plaza and was looking for somewhere to eat breakfast. I'd heard from a family member that Bartram was pretty fancy, but the cafe prices weren't absolutely outrageous. Upon entering, I found the decor to be beautiful and modern. The desserts in the cases looked sophisticated and decadent. The breakfast menu was pretty extensive - I couldn't decide between the crepes, eggs benedict florentine, or french toast. I typically love homemade crepes, and my cashier said she liked theirs better than their french toast, so I decided to go with the bananas foster crepes and a small coffee. I think I was in the mood for something sweet, but not THAT sweet. The three crepes came out promptly, but were completely submerged in 3/4 an inch of syrup. They also had a *very* sweet cream cheese filling that was just too much on top of the syrup. The taste was good but way too overwhelming, I could barely finish two bites of one crepe. So all-in-all I think based on my experiences and others' reviews the cafe items need improving. I'm sure their bakery items are delicious, but to be honest I felt a little nauseous after consuming so much sugar from a few bites of that crepe dish. Our family really likes this place. We have had breakfast and dinner here many times. They breakfast options are very filling. The eggs, sausage, fruit are very good. The Greek chicken wrap is also very good. The kid meals are big and come with a cookie! It's a nice place to take your family, but it's not super cheap. We like it for a great!! read more

I used to stop by here a lot after yoga to bring home two small desserts. However, we went here this week on a Monday morning for breakfast. Upon entering Abbie H was too occupied talking to her coworker to greet us and take our order. We stood there for at least a minute waiting for her to finish her conversation. She gave us a very bad impression and was not friendly when taking our order. In addition to the lack of personality of the staff, the place was full of dirty tables. Some had plates on them, but most of them were full of crumbs. So perhaps instead of chatting with her coworker, Abbie H could be helping to maintain the cleanliness of the restaurant. Additionally, the water jug looked dirty inside. Also, for a suggestion perhaps the coffees could be labeled with strength: light, medium, bold, extra bold. Food was ok, but way overpriced. You can get much better food at the same price point at First Watch, as well as a much cleaner and pleasant atmosphere. We won't be back to Bartram. read more

I ordered eggs Benedict because I saw the beautiful picture they posted on their Facebook page. From the picture you can see how unappetizing the plate that was placed in front of me was. I gave it back and asked for a refund. I didn't even ask for potatoes and from the online photo wasn't expecting them and that was the whole plate along with a huge chunk of ham and one egg maybe two and it broke?? We were really looking forward to trying this place and had high expectations due to the menu/decor/line... But Mwha mwha... They kinda blew it. I mean nothing was terrible... but nothing was really lights out either. First off - you walk into a pretty cool space and are met by a MASSIVE case of sweets etc. that look OUTSTANDING. Great presentation, huge variety... all gets you amped up for a delicious meal. They do a great job of marketing the menu. Segue... Was told, "We have a great Reuben special today (Sunday)." Figured it's as good a place to start as any. Ordered that to split with my wife, some stuff for the kids (nice +) and a bowl of soup. Soup was good, kids stuff came fast, another plus (considering the line/lack of table seating. But when the Reuben "special" came, I seriously thought I was being punked. It came on bread that was at least 1 inch thick PER SLICE... and had maybe 3oz. of corned beef... and a smear of thousand island. Tried to catch the girl to point out that they missed the cheese and the sauerkraut (and seemingly 3/4 of the meat) - but she was hustling to another table. I get it - it's busy, stuffs rolling out of the kitchen... oops. It happens. But when I got up and tracked her down and showed her the miss - she first looked at me like I had made the mistake. I said, "I think this Reuben is missing a few things." "Um a what?" "The sandwich... the special you told me was AWESOME!... It's supposed to have more things on it... right?" "Um - I don't know... let me check." Looked at my wife like - "Did that just happen???" BLURG... Let it pass my inner therapist says... Back to the table hopeful the kitchen gets it. Now I know some kitchens freakin' HATE people that send stuff back with technical critiques... Too salty, a touch under/over... Yeah I can see that... But if it's just plain wrong... Like we missed half the ingredients... take the time to make it right - I say. Sammy comes back like 6-8 minutes later (plenty of time to start fresh and do it right) with a straight up slice of cold cheese and a lump of kraut on the same now cold bread and corned beef... And still only has about a third of the meat that bread that thick calls for. Fail. I think it's also fair to ramp up the critical dial - just based on price point. It's cool to charge $10 for a sandwich - but it better be above average and properly proportioned. Really wanted to love this place and probably would have hit it every Sunday before grocery shopping - but I think I'd do better at the Cafe in the Giant Eagle... now that's saying something. read more

Major disappointment with this place, especially after reading the reviews online and on another site. Was in the mood for a good omelet and after checking their online menu, which touts 6 eggs with fillings, decided to go with that. Told the counter person wanted to just have It made with 2 eggs and the rest egg whites. No problem... For my fillings, ordered tomatoes, onions, spinach and cheese. This dish also comes with a choice of toast. All this for $9.99, pricey considering its just eggs, but I knew that going in. Server said it would take about 10 minutes. Within 3 minutes the dish came out and what a disappointment. Instead of the fillings being incorporated into the egg mixture, they were just with thrown in or on the plate. Looked like the cook opened it up and threw the veggies in. The spinach was not wilted or cooked, but rather a few leaves tossed on top of the eggs.. Btw, it didn't look like 6 eggs/whites were used. But the kicker? A slice of cold Swiss cheese, laying halfway out of the omelet, not melted, not warmed. I ordered a veggie cheese omelet, not an omelet with a slice of cheese. Took it back to the counter and asked if this was their standard way of making omelets. Server confirmed it was; at least she could have told me that when I ordered it the first time. And after telling her I was a new customer. Fours items later another one arrived and although it was decent , didn't justify the $9.99 price. No apology given or pastry offered as a goodwill gesture. Nor did the mgr or server come back to see how this dish was. There are better places to get an omelet and at a far cheaper price. The man behind the counter (not sure of his name but was bald with a beard) rang up my order and gave me change then proceeded to tell me, "I don't understand why anyone would come here and pay this much for a coffee when you can go to get go for 99 cents." I like this place; I like the idea of this place. But every time I order a slice of cake here, it is super cold, like hard frosting, frozen filling, cold. Today I flat out asked if the cakes had just come out of the freezer, as the box was cold as soon as she handed me the slice. Server replied "no...the case is just cold" sorry, but I call BS on that one. If you're going to charge nearly SIX DOLLARS for a single slice of cake, please take it out of the freezer at least several hours before you'll be serving. I just think that's ridiculous. Maybe they need to make them in advance and freeze to meet demand, that's fine, I understand that. But at least thaw them properly before serving. Sorry, but disappointed. read more

Nothing more appetizing than having moldy cake! That's right people they sold us moldy cake! The service was awful when we returned the moldy cake. The refund wasn't 100% it was half the cost of the $30.00 cake. Ridiculous if you ask me. I'm wondering what else is moldy in there??? Also wondering if the employees even wash their hands? I've been a pretty regular customer of Bartrams over the years. It's a great spot for a post-workout breakfast, weekend lunch, or midday pastry break with friends. The prices are a little steep compared to other bakeries, but the size of the pastries is also at least double what I've had at other places. The danishes are soft and flaky, the macaroons are light and chewy, and the coffee and iced tea is free refills. If you're in the area and deciding between a chain establishment or Bartrams I'd choose Bartrams every time. read more

Been here many times for various meetings. Ridiculously overpriced food. $5.99 for a PB&J kid's meal? Please. Coffee is mediocre. Same coffee that Cafe Kolace in Beaver serves. The breakfast sandwich is the only thing I've had that I would get again. The croisant it comes on was great. The baked goods are dry and mediocre. The cheesecake slice is WAY too expensive for the size. The cupcakes are dry, although the buttercream is usually a winner. The cookies are very hit or miss, usually a miss. The staff isn't the warmest bunch I've ever encountered. Very few smiles to be had. Many times I've wondered why some of them bother working there if they obviously hate it so much. The counter and display area are very poorly designed. First of all, they need a coffee/pastry only line for people who need a quick in and out. Then a separate food line on the opposite end of the store. Why on earth they'd have someone who just wants a coffee wait in a long, slow breakfast or lunch line is beyond me. The staff also cannot see the patrons from behind the counter. I am 5'3" and have stood there waiting and waiting for someone to see me. They can't! (I like to think they're not ignoring me...) Yes the pastry display is beautiful, but it's in the way. There has to be an easier way to display the food AND be able to see the staff/patrons. Also, if you want to look at the ice cream options, you have to cut in front of the line and piss people off. Based on the consistant traffic they've been getting since they opened, they really should re-evaluate how things are situated within the space. read more

Stopped in here on a rainy day to warm up and check this place out. Tempting baked goods combined with a friendly atmosphere made this place a winner in my book. The croissant looked so good I had to get one. Cutting into it, it seemed bready and I expected it to be flavorless. But it had a great croissant flavor and a dense texture that isn't as greasy as what you normally encounter. Worth a try. Free wifi. Oldies music playing in the background. If it weren't for the diligence of the person making my cappuccino, this place would get one star. I want to like this place like everyone else, but I just don't see it. I stopped in for a cappuccino and asked for it "extra extra dry". When the barista/cashier asked what that meant I got scared. It's pretty clear they haven't focused on training folks on how to make the cappuccinos & lattes they offer on the menu. I explained that I wanted "mostly foam" in the drink and she proceeded to start the drink. Yeah, she didn't know what she was doing as milk was flying all over the place and she would stop, scoop the little bits of foam from the pitcher, then resteam the milk. Once milk reaches a certain temperature it spoils & scalds, but I also don't think that was taught. She repeated this 5-8 times until she got foam, often refilling the pitcher. It took about 10 minutes to get my (small sized) Capp. I definitely give her two stars for effort- the ignorance is not her fault. In fact, I gave her a $5 tip because she was so dedicated to making the right thing. I just don't understand the overpriced hype. It's clear the staff hasn't been trained and the pecan bar I got for my father was stale... Sorry dad! Stay away. And if anyone from Bartram House reads this, please train your staff. read more

We visited on a Saturday morning for breakfast. I ordered a breakfast burrito with egg whites, peppers, spinach, turkey sausage, and tomatoes. I received a wrap with jalapeños instead of tomatoes (which is completely forgivable, I may have been mumbling and it wasn't quiet in there) the wrap was honestly really good but it was laying in a huge puddle of water (?) when it arrived and when I picked it up, more water came pouring out, not a few drips. Seriously a steady stream of liquid. So that kinda grossed me out, but I put a napkin on the plate to sop up the water and continued to eat. It tasted very good but be advised the jalapeños are fresh and HOT. Still yummy though. Chris ordered the eggs Benedict, which came with strawberries. It was also swimming in a puddle of water? I don't know what was up that morning or what they weren't draining properly. I don't know if the spinach was frozen (it didn't look it, it looked fresh) or what happened but the puddles on the plate definitely cost them some stars. read more

Just tried this place yesterday. Awesome good! We had the quiche which was very good. The texture was different, it was creamy but firm, and the crust was delicious. I had diced ham on top, my friend had the bacon. I also had a side salad with the house vinaigrette. The salad ingredients couldn't have been any fresher. The dressing was a little bland but still good. Looking around at the other diners, everyone's sandwiches were huge and looked very tempting. Their dessert and pastry offerings were out of this world. The cakes showed off what looked like a pound of chocolate shavings on top! I took home two pecan rolls. I have to say I haven't had a pecan roll like this in over 40 years. When I was out of high school and started working in downtown Pittsburgh, when I was skinny and wore 5" heels, I used to stop for breakfast at Stouffer's restaurant on Penn Avenue. They served a grilled pecan roll that was huge, with gigantic pecans, sticky topping and melted butter. That's what the Bartram House pecan roll reminded me of. It was delicious. Bravo. Great place to chill with friends and grab brunch. The desserts are beautifully made and quite tasty. I always order the spinach, toasted walnut, feta cheese, and strawberry salad and add a grilled salmon filet. The salad is quite nice and the vinaigrette they serve with it is light and tangy. Usually the meat is mixed into quiche. It was basically an egg quiche and a side of greasy bacon... even the fresh greens were wilted from the grease. We also ordered a $3 scone to go and we lost the scone walking to our car. This is an upscale bakery/cafe. It lures you in. So many raves about it. I of course, have to be one of the non-lovers. Not to say I don't LIKE it, I like some of it, but not all of it. Pricey. That's fine if you are greeted with consistently extraordinary product. Everything (for me) is not extraordinary. Here's what I love & what I don't. Sandwiches-the most outstanding-can I say it again-OUTSTANDING thing they have is their breads. I've had 2 sandwiches that I love...the first one tried was the calabrese (fresh mozz, tomato, basil & a great dressing soaking into the bread). Fresh ingredients. Had this a 2nd time & it was not as good as the first). Another was a chicken-based po' boy, with andouille sausage, melted cheese, great dressing...this was a special. Both worth the price...average for a sandwich n side is about $10. The portions are really large...TOO large for some of the sandwiches. I wouldn't mind seeing a smaller portion size at a reduced price. Next I tried the egg salad-I love egg salad. I ordered it on a croissant. It was messy. Had a piece of lettuce on it as big as my head which I had to rip off around the edges of the sandwich so I could bite into it. Disappointment set in, it was bland. I'm not someone who adds salt to my food-It needed salt. It needed something. That said, the croissant was by far one of the best I've ever had in my life. I want to eat them every day. I went yet again. Got the soup/sandwich combo...half a ham & cheddar on one of their slightly sweet rolls. The roll of course was fantastic. The ham...lets talk ham...the ham is not deli ham. It is ham cut from a real ham. That's wonderful, except that the ham was one of the saltiest hams I've tasted. Nothing worse. Maybe they should put some ham on the egg salad sammy & all would be good with the world. Back to my point, if you're going to charge me $10 for a sandwich, it better be great every time. Pastries - ah the pastries! This tall case filled with sweet treats is beckoning you to try a piece of everything. You can't afford to try all of it-the pastries are not cheap. Some are worth it. Some..not so much. I am not a fan a S'mores (yes, call me crazy), but their S'mores bars are the best thing I've tried so far. Thick chocolate ganache layered on a graham crust with toasted marshmallows & choc chips scattered over the top. Do it-Get one. Next, caramel chocolate bar. Where's the chocolate? Not much of it & a hard (I mean hard like you could break your tooth) layer of caramel on top. And dry. Peanut butter brownie...looks divine, but sadly a very dry brownie with some peanut butter frosting on top. At about $3.50 a piece for their bars, they should be fantastic. The cake case is awesome. They look beautiful. I am lucky enough to have a boss that feels the need to celebrate my birthday every year & this past year he bought me the Chocolate Mountain Cake. I love chocolate. It's a double chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse filling & chocolate icing. Over the top. However the mousse seemed to get a bit of a sour taste after a couple of days. I take it it's not meant to last. No worries though, I would get it again. The Tiramisu? Good, but not the best I've had. Individual slices run about $6 a piece. Breakfast (or lunch because they will serve it anytime). They have a nice selection, albeit pricey for breakfast. I've had their quiche twice. It's delicious quiche...the lightest, fluffiest I've had. However don't let their quiche variety fool you. They offer veggie, ham or bacon. When you order one of these varieties, you get a slice of basic quiche TOPPED with the variation. In other words if you get the bacon quiche, it's served with slices of bacon on top-it is not baked into the quiche. So it's like quiche with a side of bacon, or ham, or if you get the veggie it's like a salad on your quiche. They offer French toast, pancakes, omelettes, etc. So on to today's lunch. I wanted a breakfast sandwich. I opted for egg, sausage & cheese on a croissant. I received the biggest breakfast sandwich of my life. $10 worth as a matter of fact. Basically what I received was about a 3-egg, maybe more, omelette I'd guess on a croissant that was bigger than any I'd ever seen-huge. If I had to estimate it was about 9 inches long by 5 inches wide. So much for a light lunch. Was it good? Yes. Was it entirely too big? YES. If I wanted an omelette I would have ordered one. I would've rather had a moderately sized LUNCH portion at a smaller price. If you're a big eater, you'd love it I suppose. Too much in my opinion. The few soups I've tried have been very good. The few sides I've tried were a little bland. My bottom line for this place is, keep up the good work with the breads, consider portion size to help make his country less obese & at the same time making it more affordable, & make sure everything is out of this world. We only had cupcakes and they were 5 stars! However I'm giving the "logistics" of the place 3 stars! There was no description or names of the cupcakes in the display case so I had to wait in line and then ask what the different cupcakes were. There were also no bakery item prices anywhere. I asked for a menu to take to go and was told that the menu is online.. Which is helpful except that the only menu in the whole place is on a chalk board behind the cashiers. So If you're waiting in line you most likely cannot see the menu and will have to make a last minute decision. I would recommend paper menus people can look at in line and take home and also a better description of bakery items in the display case (none of the cakes or cupcakes were labeled) also prices for the bakery items would be nice so you don't have to ask what everything is and costs. read more

Forget these guys during their busy time. I have made the mistake multiple times of going into Bartrams during busy times and placing an food order. Today I had a meeting to go to and wasn't thinking. I went into Bartrams and they were relatively busy. I forgot and placed an order for one of their salads. After waiting a over 25 minutes for the meal to come I had to go up and tell them to stick it in the fridge I would be back for it after my meeting. I show up to pick up the order after my meeting and they've missed part of my order. I'm still dealing with work since it's now long after lunch so I don't realize it until I'm away from the place so I lose. I won't say I won't ever go back to this place as their food and pastries are really good but they stink when it comes to really taking care of their customer so they will not have my business again for three to four months to make up for this. read more

I asked, as I have done before, to have them cut in half and put in a box because I was bringing them to a dinner. I've not lived in Wexford long but I have made this request and been accommodated two other times. They weren't busy tonight. No one in line. I was told it's a $5 up-charge to do anything besides put the bars in a bag. $5 for two minutes work. I want that job. My warm and fuzzy feelings for this place have dissipated. Food that is made to order is great in my book and portions were huge! Came here post thanksgiving for brunch with some family as a large group of 7 and were able to procure seating. Service was excellent and sorry to say, but the 3 star is for the food presentation and preparation. The selection was brunch fare at reasonable prices, however, despite that the food quality was pretty fresh, the ways that some of the dishes were presented and prepared weren't so great and could use some improvement.
