Loafers Bread Co. has three retail locations in the Pittsburgh area. The company freshly bakes their breads every morning. Some flavors of breads are regularly available, and other flavors of breads are baked based on the day of the week or the baker's schedule. Customers may purchase the breads either in store or online for delivery or catering. I shopped in this location in Cranberry Township one time. The cinnamon-swirl bread was unfortunately sold out, but I saw other flavors such as English muffin, challah, and honey whole wheat. Other menu items included salads, sandwiches, sides, some desserts, and beverages. An employee promptly and kindly greeted me and took my order. I purchased a Pennsylvania-Dutch streusel and a peach crumb cake. Each cost several dollars. The employee correctly processed my payment and sincerely thanked me. At home, my husband and I ate this streusel and cake. We thought that they were very fresh and tasted good. We had expected the peach crumb cake to contain more peaches, but at least it was not soggy. read more

My one year old woke up super early so I decided to run errands early in the morning and finished up with a stop at loafers shortly after they opened. This was my first time at loafers but I will for sure be back for lunch sometime soon! Everything looked SO good. I had a hard time deciding what to try. I ended up with a breakfast sandwich, cinnamon roll and a pumpkin muffin. I took them home to share with my husband. I reheated them in the microwave and all of them were great! I was so close to getting the chocolate caramel scone. I'm not usually a scone person but that one sounded good...I'll have to give it a try next time! I grew up with Loafers Bread and love when I'm back in the Burgh to visit. They have a standard set of breads they usually have and some rotating. The pumpkin bread and pumpkin chocolate chip bread are amazing in the Fall. The challah is melt in your mouth and perfect for French toast. The sandwich menu is small but fresh and simple. The menu also includes salads, soups, and pastries. There is a pick two option where you can get any two : 1/2 sandwich, salad, or cup of soup. My mom had the creamy tomato basil soup and 1/2 of the chicken salad sandwich. She gave everything a good review. I had chicken noodle soup and 1/2 of a roast beef / pepper jack sandwich. The soup noodles are my favorite-thick, slightly mushy. The roast beef was rare; loved the horseradish sauce. The wheat bread was semi-grainy which I love. My son had the kids meal: 1/2 Turkey/cheddar sandwich, apple slices, an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. He finished it all so he definitely approved! This is the kind of place where the delicious smell of baking bread fills the air. The fresh-baked loaves are pricey and yet I don't mind paying for bread that tastes this good. Randomly found this stop on Google maps as I was looking for a lunch spot. Stopped in around 1pm, just after the lunch rush. You could follow your nose to this bakery, as the smell of fresh bread wafted from the front door. Next to the register was a cutting counter where they are generous with handing out bread samples. You can't buy the bread in anything less than a whole loaf, but its so good I'm not sure why you would want to. I tried a little bit of every loaf on the cutting counter, and was hard pressed to make a decision. I ended up going with the Challah bread, very wide in its braids, pillowy soft, slightly sweet. You can eat it plane, but it also makes phenomenal French toast. I will be going back for another loaf. read more

I stopped in here to pick out a dessert item for my friend and I. I went in thinking I was getting muffins but then the zucchini bread caught my eye. I saw they had samples available so I taste tested and it was an easy choice after that! They had plain, chocolate chip, and nut options. I decided on the chocolate chip. It was delicious warmed up with some butter on it. My only complaint would be that it pretty much fell apart when trying to get a piece out of the container. Walking in they have a nice display of freshly baked bread on a cutting board behind glass with a name tag displaying what each one is. The combination of the site of the bread, smell of the bread, and unique types of bread My wife and I decided to each get a sandwich and split some soup for take out. I ended up ordering the meatball sub (on special) and my wife and I split the corn chowder soup. The soup came with a slice of bread; we picked the Orange Cranberry. For sure the bread was the highlight of the meal! The meatball sub had the right amount of sauce, cheese, and meatballs to let the bread do most of the shining. The soup to my surprise was thicker than I expected and still good. Orange Cranberry bread is not my style, but my wife really liked it. Needless to say my wife enjoyed the freshly baked bread and will be back for more. I also really enjoy the cherry apple challah and the hot cross buns (yes, that is a real thing). The only reason Loafers is getting a four star rating is because they are closed on Sundays. My mother always told me, "the secret to a great sandwich is the the bread." I love the fact that Loafers is a Bakery first and Sandwich Shop second. The breads are always fresh, unique and delicious - and you can pretty much guarantee that no matter what you order in between those two slices, it will taste good! Their granola is also delicious and they usually have samples of it up front! My only complaint however is the whole layout of the place, that and their soups always seem to be lacking. I love this place. As a local-when I moved to the north hills last year I was looking for a mom and pop bakery with homemade Amish style bread and pies. This place is that for anyone who enjoys that type of bread. Their honey wheat is so good and always stays fresh for a week as long as properly stored. I also have to give a special thank you to their staff-so kind and attentive. We ordered an apple pie to celebrate my mother's birthday and everything was perfect and the order was ready the next few days after I placed the order over the phone. She went out of her way to go in the back and ask to clarify which breads they had when I asked and she wasn't sure. Food was amazing--freshly made and healthy: not loaded up with sodium. I was really excited to find a fresh bread place since the Great Harvest in Mt. Lebanon closed. Enter Loafer's which has no stores within the city, but rather some developed suburbs. I stopped in to get a nice fresh loaf and was not greeted by the most welcoming staff. It was Thursday, right as they opened, and they were still selling bread from their Wednesday menu... I got a pumpkin loaf (seasonal) which was good. I also got a loaf of the dakota which seems to still be fresh despite being day-old. As a BIG fan of the Wexford Loafers, I thought I would try this location one morning on my way out of town up I-79. I got there mid-morning (about 9) and saw that there was very little selection - probably 3-4 varieties. I asked, and was told that they did none of their own baking and that the delivery wasn't there yet. "So you are telling me that this day-old bread?" "Yes." "Oh well, I guess I'll get a loaf of the sunflower whole wheat." The next part really bugged me and the more I think about it the more outrageous I think it is. She charged full price for the old bread!! I was in a hurry and don't often have an opportunity to get to Loafers, so I bought it anyhow. I now regret having bought it and encouraging them to continue this policy. 1) by 9:00, a bakery should have the day's goods available 2) anything day-old should not be sold at full price I will NOT return to the Cranberry location and recommend that anyone else make the trip to Wexford to get the good stuff. read more

Came here for lunch with some coworkers on a Friday. Everyone was raving about how good it was so I had pretty high expectations. I went for their lunch special - pumpkin soup and the seasonal "harvest' sandwich with turkey, spicy brown mustard, roasted red peppers and dill havarti cheese. It was on wheat bread which itself was really soft and VERY good (after I tasted it I know why people rave about their baked products). The sandwich itself was kind of a weird combination for something that was supposed to have autumn flavors in it. It was just OK, but I probably wont be getting that one again. The pumpkin soup was overwhelmingly SWEET. I almost took it back to the counter and asked for something else it was so sweet, but I powered through it. It tasted like a hot, liquid pumpkin pie - not savory enough at all. I was frankly a little grossed out by it and will definitely not be getting it again. My coworkers tried some other soups that looked good - a vegetable and potato that looked try-worthy. For my one sandwich and the cup of soup with a drink it was about $13.00 so I thought it was also very pricey for a place that served everything in paper boats with plastic utensils. I think I will definitely be going back for their baked goods and bread products, but next time I might skip lunch or try something else not on the specials menu. read more
