the Eggs Benedict are really good. The breakfast potatoes with the meal were crisp on the outside, and nice and soft inside. The onion that was mixed in with the potatoes was flavorful and nicely seasoned. The hollandaise was a bit thick, and generic in flavor, but the eggs were perfectly poached. The danish was underwhelming. There was a dollop of sweetened cream cheese in the center. I tried spreading it around, but all I could taste was powdered sugar. Cleanliness, cleanliness! Even in non-COVID times, the lack of attention to cleanliness would be unacceptable, but now? Yikes. I had to stand outside and wait for people to leave, then I had to continue to stand outside and wait for someone to clean it (10 minutes!).... and I use the word "clean" lightly. The young (nice) man came out, took a rag out of his back pocket, swiped a table nearby, swiped the one I was standing by, then proceeded to "clean" other ones. I can't believe it! No care/attention to actually CLEANING, let alone sanitizing it! There was absolutely NO sanitizing happening here!!! In addition, the young woman with the glasses working at the counter was unfriendly and uninformed: we ordered a kid's Mac n cheese, she said there was none, and the guy next to her said, "no, we have it." HOWEVER. The food! Thank goodness the food saves this experience! I ordered the Mediterranean Salmon salad, and it was delectable. The salmon was cooked perfectly with a just-right crunchy exterior, and the artichoke hearts! I could write an entire page on the loveliness of the artichoke hearts. My mother-in-law had the strawberry walnut salad and had zero complaints there: every element of her salad was perfect. As a mom, I really liked that the kids meals come with apple slices, not chips/fries. I would recommend this place to others so long as they are not COVID wary or uncomfortable with lax sanitation. I used to love coming here but not so much. The quality of the food has definitely dipped in the last couple of months and this place is way under staffed. The last two times I have been here I ordered the Asian salad and the Mediterranean, both of which I have had several times before. It used to be that each order came out slightly different each time, but it was a good different not a bad one. The Asian salad usually contains warm Asian dressing and a good combination of chicken, snow peas, peppers, and cashews. This last time it was chunky cold Asian dressing with uncut lettuce and hardly any other ingredients. This last order I had was the Mediterranean salmon. Portion sizes have drastically dropped and the salad was not that great. It also took a half hour to get my salad at 1:30 on a Monday with only 6 people in the restaurant. Not happy with how quickly this place has gone downhill. They need more staff and the quality needs to change. read more

Short review because it was a quick and simple visit. Clean place with plenty of seating both inside and out. However there was nobody in the place at 7pm and they even serve dinner such as filet mignon. We didn't expect that when seeing it on the menu. There were a lot of bakery items available and we had a tough time picking. The prices are a little steep $2-$8 for each individual item but I feel like thats normal for a gourmet bakery these days. We really liked the cinnamon roll, best item. The other layer bars we got were good but nothing to drool over. The staff was nice and offered suggestions but nothing crazy friendly or conversational. This is a warning for people who don't normally eat at the mall food court. I was tricked by all the glowing reviews, but I should have known from the photos that this was not my kind of place. Oversized pastries made with low-quality butter, enormous omelettes where you get to choose the fillings, sandwiches on mass-market bread. It was also very confusing to order because they don't seem to have any pre-selected options. They made us say yes or no to every freaking ingredient in the breakfast burrito. I can't tell you how that breakfast burrito tasted because they got our order mixed up with someone else's so we got something totally different from what we ordered, but I didn't even care because everything looked so mediocre. Wexford may not be a food desert, but if it has a water source it's highly polluted. read more

If you enjoy eating at Panera, you'll like this even better. Similar concept, however the ingredients are 10x more fresh and the portions are way beyond generous. Bartram's has a lot to offer: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, pastries, and cakes and many baked goods in between. They often have featured dish items and a soup of the day if you are looking for something that is not regularly on their menu. They offer sandwiches, salads, soups, and an option to "Pick 2", half of a sandwich with half a salad. What i like about this place is that the salads come in two sizes. If you do not want to pay the price of the full, get the half, and your tummy will be just as filled as if it had the whole. I have had a lot of the menu items, however my favorite to day is the chicken pear salad. Loaded with pears, chicken, candied walnuts, and craisins with a side of their homemade dressing, it is delicious! My husband consistently orders the asian salad and reuben and always enjoys it. As far as baked goods, you can't go wrong. I have had their cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, macarons, smores bars (which is a favorite in our household), etc. A little on the higher priced side but everything is as fresh as can be. From the veggies to the bread to the baked goods, it is all worth it. If you aren't looking for a meal, this is a great place to pick up a hot drink and a pastry and be on your way. read more

Stopped in late afternoon on Black Friday. There were only two tables being used at the time. There was not a clean table and food on the floor. Then if you look up, there is an inch of dust on the light fixtures and above the banquettes. I was extremely disappointed with my visit. I when I come to town I usually enjoy a fresh salad and a yummy dessert. This time the older gentleman/cook/whoever he was was so unpleasant,Rude, I was completely turned off. We ordered a BLT it did not have any mayo so we simply asked for additional and received a snarky comment. We asked I about desserts, and couldn't even be bothered to walk over to the case to explain a couple of the things we were asking about. This was the worst experience ever and from a place Ive been visiting for years ,we will probably never come back. I decided on a 3-star review because I have definitely had 5-star experiences here, as well as 1-star. All of my excellent experiences were a few years ago. I really loved that they had a variety of fresh sandwiches, beautiful pastries and salads and soups. I've absolutely gone out of my way for a Bartrum red velvet cupcake! We were just there today, and I have to say that it was definitely a 1-star experience. They were busy, as it is Mother's Day, but we found seating right away. It was my husband, my toddler and I. While the table looked clean, we realized it was kind of sticky after we sat down. No one was really going around checking on tables and we gave it a quick wipe down ourselves. I ordered the 1/2 California club and chicken noodle soup, my husband got eggs benedict and we got our son mac and cheese and apples. The man taking our order was very nice and thorough. We waited a while before the food came out, but nothing crazy. My son's meal didn't have apples with it, but it had a cookie. My husband's eggs benedict was on two large, hard pieces of bread. The bread was good but it was so tough that it made it hard to eat. My California club was ok, but my chicken noodle soup was one of the saltiest dishes I had ever had. Someone had to make a mistake, there's no way this was their regular recipe. We don't tend to send food back, so we just ate it. We probably would have gotten pastries if we had a good lunch experience, but we just decided to go home. read more

I absolutely love Bartram and have eaten here many times but my food at the Wexford location was awful. My boyfriend ordered the two egg breakfast and the bacon came out so burnt that when I poked it it literally cracked in half. When we asked for more his new bacon was so undercooked and greasy that he also couldn't eat it. He had toast come out with his meal that was the end of the bread and burnt to a crisp with no butter on it. I ordered eggs Benedict and the yoke inside my eggs were rock hard which defeats the point of them. Needless to say I'm incredibly disappointed and won't be returning to this location. read more

We used to love this place. The sandwiches and salads were great. Breakfast was amazing! But then we started having trouble placing to go orders-no one would answer the phone, and when they did, poor customer service. And then the quality of the food went downhill. The steak in the steak salad was all gristle, or something would be left off of a sandwich. Both the quality of the food itself and the prep seemed off, so we stopped going. Yesterday I decided to try them again for breakfast, where they always excelled. Two omelets and the texture of the eggs for both was so odd. Hard to describe but they were both too wet and crumbled apart. A $30 breakfast that we couldn't eat. This was a to-go order, so I couldn't take it back, but I felt like a bad review was the best I could do for others. If they had been experiencing staffing difficulties before, this was enough time to test them again. I should have known since a once bustling patio was empty on a Saturday. Zero stars. read more

Bartram House is a welcome addition to the Village of Pine Shoppes. It's taken me a several visits to finally feel enough love to write a review. So, here goes.... Love the location and the interior. On our last visit, they we setting up their outdoor patio with heaters and huge red umbrellas. Service is usually a dilemia. People entering the business for the first time are generally confused, not knowing where to order. On our last visit, we stopped in for breakfast. BJ got an omelet and I got a breakfast burrito. We were both really surprised when our meals arrived. BJ's omelet was bigger than his head. But he still managed to finish it all. I had to take half of my meal home. We decided to grab a couple sweet for later. BJ ordered and paid at the counter and was told to go stand in front of the bakery counter. And he stood and stood and stood. I went to the ladies room and when I came back, he was still standing watching the servers trip over each. I finally manage to wave someone down and was advised that apparently their system wasn't working as it was supposed to. You think? It's very hard not to drool when checking out the bakery counter. Their cheesecake slices look awesome. So do their birthday cakes. The cupcake selection is limited to red velvet, chocolate and vanilla. We have tried the red velvet cupcakes. They are inexpensive, but mine was over cooked and dry. The french macaroons are excellent. So are the regular ones with chocolate drizzle. All in all, I think their food in fairly decent, but their service could use some improvement. read more

I really want to say that my poor experience at Bartram is due to a shortage of staff or a need for better operational planning/efficiency, but overall, there were just so many little shortcomings about the place. It really feels like a small local bakery that grew too fast. In general, we had a lot of issues with cleanliness. When I went to get coffee, the sugar packets were completely hard from either old age or coffee spills/stain. (pretty minor, but again a small indicator. the display shelves below the coffee were very bare/untidy due to lack of attention). When we got our food, our plates had remnants of previous meals....red stain on an eggs benedict dish? and a piece of cilantro/parsley on my pancake platter?? We also overheard ppl complaining about their tables not being bused. Now if the food was amazing, I could ignore the operational flaws, but our food was not very good. I had the maple pecan pancakes, which were realllllly greasy and burnt. So not at all fluffy, as advertised on their menu :( :( :( :( (I LOVE pancakes, so that was reallly really disappointing for me...and my stomach was churning from all the grease for a few hours after lunch). My husband had the eggs benedict florentine, which were pretty basically meeting the definition of an eggs benedict. The eggs were definitely overcooked and the english muffins were definitely not made fresh in their bakery :(. (We saw the packages for premade Thomas English muffins from the cashier line. ) The baked goods are probably your best bet at this place. It was a Bartram Bakery Breakfast Bonanza! I was immediately impressed when we walked into Bartram House. The decor was very modern and inviting. They have no fewer than 1,000 desserts on display - all of which looked phenomenal. I immediately saw their breakfast options on display on the overhead menus and I was drawn towards the crepes. We placed our orders with the girl at the counter. She could have been much more pleasant to deal with. We felt as though there was a lot of room to improve with making recommendations, small talk, or just assisting new customers as this is a new business in the area. We both ordered the crepes - mixed berry and bananas foster. I also grabbed a hot chocolate. We were asked to take a seat and our meals would be brought out to us. The problem here is that most of the available tables were not cleared off from previous customers. The drinks came out first. I had to let mine sit until well after we were done with our meal. I wasn't able to taste it until it had cooled to sub-lava temperatures. Once I was able to taste it, I was disappointed. The taste was just off. Our crepes came out and I was pleased with how they looked. The mixed berries were actually fresh, mixed berries. We would have liked to see a little fruit glaze added to it. The bananas foster, on the other hand seemed to have a bit too much syrup, which made it sweeter than I would have cared for. I hate for this to sound all negative as I really do think Bertram House has a lot of potential. The ambiance is good. The customer service could just use some refreshing, tables need to be cleaned faster, and the food is just a few adjustments away from being excellent. An excellent bakery with great service and (reportedly) good food. I can't speak for the lunch/meals but the desserts were fantastic. A bit on the pricey side but what you would expect for a more upscale bakery and cafe. I haven't yet been there during warmer months but I imagine the outdoor seating is a huge plus then. My personal favorite item thus far was the chocolate caramel bar- rich, heavy and the caramel was a real winner (not the plain old caramel drizzled on top; this was the real stuff). I tried their food to-go two days in a row while I was visiting Pittsburgh recently. I was seriously so impressed after day one that I was willing to have it twice in a row. And honestly...I don't even like eating sandwiches and salads! They're usually so boring, but not here. In terms of the regular menu, I had the roasted turkey sandwich, california club sandwich, and strawberry walnut salad. The sandwiches were both delicious...the brioche bread is fantastic, and the roasted turkey was deliciously cheesy, while the club had perfectly cooked bacon and a yum pesto. The salad though...I had that both days and was in love. The homemade candied walnuts are so delicious and made me realize there are some salads I actually WANT to eat. I wish I could replicate this salad at home! For dessert, I tried the chocolate caramel and bourbon pecan bars. The chocolate caramel was really good and had some gooeyness inside...it's almost like a thickly layered hello dolly bar minus the butterscotch. The bourbon pecan though...I've thought about it every day since. It has shortbread paired with the caramelized pecans and some sort of fudge-consistency type layer that is just the perfect combination. There are no other words for this than utterly delicious and super decadent. I cannot wait to come back here and try even more delicious things, if I can even be tempted from that salad and pecan bar. This was my first and probably last visit to Bartram House Bakery. I came in with my daughter on Sunday afternoon. I wanted the Filet Eggs Benedict but my daughter was told they ran out. She ordered me a Ruben since that is a favorite of mine. The man at the register was rude and seemed to have an attitude. He didn't greet her warmly as most restaurants in the area do. He seemed to be annoyed with all the items she added to her omelette. She forgot the cinnamon roll and when she remembered at the last minute he huffed and hit the key so hard she was a bit concerned. After she had paid he just walked away without saying anything. He handed her a number to put on the table. She came over and sat down. While she was telling me about her experience the guy came back to the counter and placed our drinks and cinnamon roll on the counter. He didn't indicate that he had gone to get our drinks or anything when he walked away. He didn't even look up at her when the items had been placed on the counter. She walked up and got them and came back. The food came out and he seemed to be in a better mood when he served us. The food was ok. My ruben was burnt on the bottom and the meat was a bit stringy. Frankly for $12 I was expecting a bit more meat. My daughters omelette was good. It was a bit browner on the outside than she likes but given the amount of stuff inside I am thinking it was necessary to get everything up to temp. I know we all have bad days and am hoping it was just one of those days for him. Given the vast number of places in the area to eat I will probably pick somewhere else next time. read more

A sandwich is defined by the quality of the bread that it's made with. Combine that with top-quality meat and cheese and avocado and the 1/2 club sandwich I had at BHB was EXCELLENT. The bread would've been delicious all by itself. It was perfectly toasted to bring out the warm goodness of the filling which was just as good. I hugged it up with the apple cashew salad with honey mustard vinaigrette. The sweet/crunchy/sour worked well with the kickass club, but I should've passed on the too-sour lemonade (a little too heavy on the lemon, guys). Definitely worth the $12 I paid for lunch. Not sure why others gave the service a pan, but my experience was good. The waitress was friendly and gave great suggestions when I asked her what she regularly takes home. The food came quickly too. Decor is interesting. I see what folks mean about the pastry case tho. It's drool-worthy, but it's in the damn way. They should do an "order here / pay here" setup with a ribbon line like Moe's and an express line for the coffee-and-a-donut folks. The TV is essentially an afterthought since its on mute. I'm so sad to report the decline of our local Bartram Bakery. I have been patronizing this bakery for many years. .... Today, my SIL and myself ordered the pear chicken salad. Mine arrived with the soup of the day, artichoke,chicken,spinach ( no taste, no flavor ). I patiently waited over 5-7 minutes for her salad to arrive before I sampled my soup. Although the salads were full of fresh, tasty ingredients, our salad dressings were laughable! I had a mixture of their oil and vinegar, my SIL had only a small container of the oil! Of course, there was no follow up of the management to assess our satisfaction of our meal. I would recommend finding dining alternatives in the area......there are many. read more

Happens to be my wife's favorite restaurant, otherwise I'd probably reviewed them at 3 Stars. I'm a bigger fan of their lunches/breakfast than their pastries unfortunately. I've tried a decent amount of their sweets from cheesecake to donuts to bars. My favorite is probably their apple strudel and wasn't a big fan of their cheesecake. Re: Their lunches - Depending on when you go the ingredients don't always taste "fresh" ... you'll end up with chicken/turkey that was clearly reheated, avocado that is significantly brown, etc. They do a great filet sandwich with a horseradish sauce on a soft and delicious bun. This is probably my favorite sandwich bread they serve. The majority of sandwiches I've had there come on a thin dense bread that is just OK. And they really, really need to change their potato chips to anything else. Homemade, kettle chips, ANYTHING. The stale ripple chips just don't cut it. I've never been disappointed during breakfast though between crepes, eggs benedict, and oatmeal. It's a great alternative to Panera, albeit slightly more expensive. read more

So disappointing. Ordered the quiche. It's embarrassing what they served! The sides of the slice were rubbery, the inside texture was like a croissant instead of custard. A few days old, overcooked, both?! Never, ever should that have been served. I stood in line with my pathetic plate while they tried to ignore me.
