Loved the food, the service and the vibe. Our party of 15 was well taken care of and food was brought out hot. We especially love the fruit drinks but were pleased with the choice of kiwi lemonade. Portions were generous and great for a meal the next day. I typically only ate Ecuadorian food when my mom, who was a great cook, made it but this was her go to place when she wanted someone else to do the cooking so that tells you all you need to know. read more

Barzola is one of the best Ecuadorian restaurants in all of Queens. They have a handful of locations, but this one in Jackson Heights was the first location (opened in 1987). The place is spacious, very clean, and serves all of the traditional plates. You can find everything here like bolon de verde, seco de gallina, llapingachos, etc. The food was fresh and very flavorful. I recommend the bandera. This is a platter that comes with several different things to try (ceviche, tripe stew, goat stew, rice) to give you a better idea of of the cuisine. There's a happy hour as well. If you go there Monday to Friday 1:00pm to 7:00pm, drinks are half price. read more

Looking for Ecuadorian restaurants sounds easy in Queens. My family is from the Coast and taste vary depending on the region. Although we are from the same country, flavor and seasoning for Soups are the hardest to come close. Most restaurants have a home feel, meaning not much decoration just good food. This place has a little bit of a different feel, vibrant and energetic setting. For an Ecuadorian restaurant, they should offer Ecuadorian beer. Ordered the "Caldo de Salchicha" Popular Blood sausage hearty soup. This soup is loaded with all kinds of internal meat. The flavor was delicious. Couple of issues, the soup was served luke warm. Second the plantain sausage was flavored with the same as the Caldo de Bola. It wasn't bad, just that those sausages are only supposed to carry plantain filling without meat. This one had meat like the filling for the balls for "Caldo de Bola". I would recommend they quality check the temperature of the food when served. Since I only had the soup and no other plates. Went on Saturday afternoon when there was not a lot of people there due to the weather. We ordered food for table of 4 and even though the waitress repeated the order back to me, she forgot my meal. We never received utensils for all of us and asked the hostess who was right next to us, she didn't want to give us the utensils and grabbed our waitress to give us the utensils making us wait to eat. We asked for water 4 times, again even asked the hostess and they brought us only 2 glasses never refilling it. Getting the check was a 45 minute ordeal, with the hostess just completely ignoring us - again right next to us. The food was 3/5 but with this kind of service, completely not worth it. Let's just say, the best part of the whole experience was the chair I sat in. VERY comfy! Now for the service, our lazy waitress messed up my order and then came back and lied and said she repeated the order to me 3 times which is a complete lie because when has a waiter ever done that? I had ordered the cazuela de camarones which is a shrimp dish and she repeated it back to me 1x in which she said shrimp. When I got my order it was fish. Keep in mind, I rarely ever order fish when I go out to eat unless the place is known for fish. Because she came to complain to me I told her to forget it and just kept the dish. I wanted to like it but the fish looked somewhat old and was very overcooked! I couldn't even tell what kind of fish it was. I also got the plantain empanada with cheese and it wasn't good at all. Barely had any cheese and the plantain itself tasted bland. I also got to try the steak which was seasoned well but was very chewy. After then waiting a while, we realized that our waitress never came back so we had to get the attention of another waitress. Ceviche camarones was really done well, and fresh shrimp and the quite rice cooked perfectly, they give you baked corn kernels on the side which was really good and fresh as well. I highly recommend this place for really good, Fresh Ecuadorian food. The restaurant is spacious and deceiving from the outside a lot bigger than it looks. A lil crema would've been nice but not necessary. But... I tried their Cazuela de Pescado and we were so surprised how good it was. Excellent Equidorian food Barzola is a brand-new eatery on Broadway in Astoria. I have ordered two take including a long-cooked hen which were excellent. Though I dis not eat inside the owners have done an excellent job of meeting all the requirements to done safely. This was my first time trying Ecuadorian food and I went with an Ecuadorian friend who introduced me to the food. We went around 2 pm last Thursday it was not packed and the food came out right away. We started off with margaritas from the happy hour list. I had the coconut margarita and my friend had the strawberry margarita. The drinks were good but sweet. For appetizers I ordered the muchines and she ordered the humitas. We shared both since I wanted to try both. Wow the muchines were sooooo good !!!! I liked the humitas as well it kind of resembles a sweet corn tamale but with cheese. For the entree I had the traditional Bandera dish wowww it was filling, big and tasty. It came with yellow rice, shrimp ceviche, goat stew and fish. My friend had the Cazuela de Pescado it was super tasty as well. We went in there and the food is good but the service is terrible. One of the most horrible restaurants that has very poor service. While the bartender was doing me a Moscow mule, she was watching a video on how to do it and the worse part, the bar was totally empty and the e restaurant as well and we waited over 20min to get 2 beers. Very expensive and we ordered "Vida Loca" as a cocktail and the drink was not even full, like the bartender serve you like half cub and the rest ice. We visited Barzola for the first time this past weekend. The ambiance was very nice, the restaurant was clean and very family friendly. We were a party of 7. I really loved the Ecuadorian menu, traditional dishes like the Bolon de verde mixto and a cup of hot coffee. Everything that was ordered was tasty and true to Ecuador's cuisine. The staff was kind but a bit slow. Food was at a great temperature and came out fairly quick. As a visitor from out of state my recommendation is to take public transport. We rented a car and parking was a huge challenge. I highly recommend this restaurant and suggest you try it at least once. They have other locations but we went to this location. The experience along was worth it and for seven people it was about $250.00 plus tip. read more

I'm not saying the waitresses are mean or rude, they're pretty nice.. but the management is bad. Their credit card machines breaks and they don't let the customers know until they're about to pay... yesterday I was eating there and they didn't tell me until I had to pay.. I had to go out to the nearest atm (5 blocks away) to get money! Other customers did the same thing. But I'm sad they lost that, i keep try to order from them lunch specials but I don't think it's worth it anymore. Yesterday 9/28 I had caldo de torreja y seco de carne. But let's be honest this was a seco de hueso y gordos. My seco was grease the meat came with just a big bone and some fat. I try to take the pieces of meat out but it didn't work out well. Since it was all bone and grease. Same with the soup. I got a whole bone with no meat just fat. This was very disappointed. I thought I was getting a good deal but no. After eating this meat because I can't just through my money in the garbage or even worst the food. I ate as much as I could but I had heartburn the whole day. Came to try their Encebollado before I make it myself this way I know what it should taste of. I arrived at around 2:30pm and there was already a bit of line of folks waiting to be seated. The line was a good sign for me about their food so I did not mind waiting. About ten minutes later we were seated. We ordered the salchipapas as a starter and I ordered the Encebollado mixto con camarones y atún and my friend ordered the goat stew. Instead of rice for my encebollado I ordered chifles to accompany my encebollado. The Encebollado should be served on the menu and nothing else because that's how delicious and comforting it was. It was spot on with its flavor pallet. It had a burst of freshness from the curtido and the perfect balance of salt, fat, acid and heat. My friends goat stew was also GOAT! The goat was tender and juicy and mixed well with its side of rice and a sweet plantain. The food at Barzola was everything we were hoping for and more. The waitress took it upon herself to add a gratuity fee. Their policy states that parties of 5 or more but there were 3 of us and a service dog. If they scammed me. Overall, the food is good, but they are continuously increasing their prices and decreasing their portion size. The last time I went with my parents and husband, we ordered a couple of appetizers and the waiter tried to triple our order. Fortunately, caught that in time, but he made a face as if not ordering a surplus of food was bad. Okay... Entrees were good; the drinks were fine. When the bill came they automatically added a 15% tip and you have the option to add more. However, it's not clearly outlined in the receipt so just FYI. (I've seen this happen when people tip an additional 20% on the total, which already included the 15%). They have a $10 lunch special on weekdays and that's pretty good. Menu varies, but you get a soup, entree, and drink. If you want Ecuadorian food, though, there are plenty of other places with better value and food. Barzola has made a name for itself and I think they will continue to increase their prices. Personally, I gauge their price hikes based on their bolon mixto and the rest follows. A couple of years ago it was $5.50; at the time of writing this review it's $9. read more

Today's visit was a last minute decision so I came in here without reading reviews or viewing the pictures. I came here with the sole advice of an Ecuadorian friend and he was pretty insistent on visiting this place. A quick glimpse at the location had me a little worried for street parking but he spotted an empty space half a block away. The quick street parking was a delight!! Walking in I was drawn to the pretty pink drinks lining the bar. They looked so fresh and delicious. The subtle lights and beautiful artwork are lively and inviting. They managed to make a small place look comfortable and spacious. Optimal seating and although the place was empty with the exception of two other nearby tables, the staff were busy preparing for the delivery crew. I believe they only had one waitress, but when we asked for water or napkins she was quick to respond. She left us to ourselves and didn't rush us. The food came out with appetizers first because I let my friend do the ordering (as he boasts to be a native genius and he knows what I like and what I don't) but today he might have forgotten I have a love/hate with food so it's impossible to over order bc I like variety. Then we couldn't finish. But of course. I even believed him when he said these guys didn't have cake or dessert....geez, I see the tiramisu and fried ice cream pictures on yelp now. What a losssss!!! That would have been the absolute perfect ending. Dessert. We ordered the muchines which is this cassava croquettes stuffed with white cheese and the ayacas wrapped in banana leaf stuffed with mushy cornmeal with chicken chunks and veggies. I wasn't a fan of this but it had more to do with the texture than the flavor. We also had the fish soup, I found it sour to the bone but had a fragrant stew concentration and was quite good. I think my friend just overdid it with the lime. I love lime just maybe in my drinks. Not savory soup. Ha! We also had this chicken and rice dish that was very saucy. It had great flavoring and paired well with the rice, it wasn't plain rice. The rice had an mild sweet flavor and was an acceptable level of oily/greasy (not dry or flaky...think coconut rice without the coconut flavor) that just tasted great. This came with a side of guava juice and ox tail soup and I picked at the meat on the bone which was impressively fork tender. We had a heavy, hearty lunch and aside from the reviews on yelp that he showed me at the end of our meal, I had a great time and I had absolutely no complaints. The portions were a good size, the prices were decent, and the service was pleasant. I'd look forward to revisit without hesitation. Maybe I need to start learning spanish. Eh...maybe not. read more

We waited 1 hour for our food , our waittress was so bad didnt bring us water and constantly asked for water and utensils. We waited so long for our cocktails. After an hour pass by and our food got in the table and they forgot to bring the birthday boy plate/food and how do you bring the food out first and no utensils to eat with !! It was honestly such a bad experience. And since I keep asking for water for all of us she only brought 5 glasses for 10 people. We were so upset it was hard to enjoy the food because of the service. I honestly don't recommend this restaurant for their bad service. Also don't go in the summer time since the AC was off and flies everywhere.
