We loved our time here. This was our second visit. Our first visit was 4 years ago. The weekend we got married we were staying in the Heavenly Village and this was one of the places we ate at during our visit. We sat inside in the bar area the table against the window. It was very cozy. We ordered pizza and the spinach artichoke dip and really enjoyed our meal. On this visit we were here to enjoy their live music. Last time we were here I could swear that the music was located in the alcove to the right of the restaurant. This time the stage is to the left next to the main outdoor dining area. The stage is there right by the reception desk. We arrived around 4:30pm and inquired when the live music would start and they said 5/5:30 so we sat in the walkway for a little bit deciding if we were too early to get a seat. Seating is first come first serve. They don't take reservations. There were people being seated as we were deciding so I took the plunge and got us great seats right in front of the stage, or maybe 1 table back from the stage. Still great seats. Soon as I was seated the waves of people showed up. They started taking numbers and paging them when their tables were ready. Service was great. We weren't rushed at all. We stared with the pear Gorgonzola salad. We subbed out the Gorgonzola for Parmesan as I'm not a Gorgonzola fan and that wasn't an issue. The salad arrived fresh and tasty and beautifully plated. It was served with tongs so it was perfect to share. We got the larger size. After finishing the salad we got the artichoke and spinach dip with pita chips. The pita was perfectly toasted and so tasty. It was as good as it was the first time I had it 4 years ago. For drinks he ordered the old fashion and thought it was perfectly made. I got the ginger ale and it wasn't strong enough. It was quite weak so I didn't finish it. The live music was a perfect compliment to the evening. I loved his choice of songs. He did great on his acoustic guitar and song ballads. I'm not a rock fan at dinner time so this was perfect. The weather was perfect. The area we sat in was shaded so we didn't melt in the sun and sitting next to the building it wasn't too windy at night. I highly reccomend Base Camp PIzza. read more

We ordered Base Camp Pizza about an hour ahead of time to pick up and take over to the lake for dinner. It did take a little longer than expected, but we knew they were busy and were prepared for a wait.We ordered an extra-large pepperoni pizza and a Caesar salad. I really liked the Caesar salad the dressing had a little bit of spice to it, which made it really good! The pepperoni pizza was also delicious. Like many others, I fell for the hype and was excited because it was popular enough to have a wait. However, it is extremely crowded and dirty inside. The servers are very dismissive because they are so busy and the plates and cutlery provided are dirty. Overall, the food in combination with everything was very mid. Did5 feel too special but we don't regret ordering. Thai Curry Chicken, more unique. Had sweet bell peppers, onions, chicken, a bit of curry, basil and coconut cream! I honestly think they just have a ton of reviews because the area gets a ton of foot traffic since it's in an outdoor shopping plaza. Every time we walked by there was a line and they don't take reservations so it's generally quite a long time to get seated. If you are looking for something fast you can order online + they have a to go counter you can order from! We got the arugula apple and pepperoni pizza. The arugula apple was quite interesting- not much sauce and it seemed like it was just leaves + apples, no additional flavor. The shrimp pasta was very good especially after a long lake day. There was a good amount of shrimp in the dish + tons of sauce. I did however think it needed a little more salt but overall it was very flavorful especially for a pizza place! The service was a little eh and I'm sure it was because it was late at night + there were a ton of people but the server rushed to take our order and only checked on us one time. In all honesty, my partner and I ordered here not expecting too much. We've both had lots of pizza (who hasn't?) and have tried it all over the country. I can confidently say Base Camp is one of the best we've ever had. We ordered the chicken bacon ranch and Thai curry chicken pizzas and both were so, so good. Something in the crust that makes it soooo easy to eat two slices right off the rip. The gooey dollops of cheese on the cbr was to die for. It took a lot of restraint not to go back every day. Last time I had Base Camp Pizza was probably five years ago and this weekend I was in town so I had to try it again. I remember it being super good. Located in the Heavenly Plaza. You have to park in the parking garage or in a lot. We came in with a group of 11 and we got seated right away. They pushed tables and chairs together to make a long table. After a long morning hike it was so rewarding. They had so many pizza options and pastas too. They had huge water glass cups. They also came around filling the waters a lot. I got a Big Mountain personal pizza ($17.50) and the Gouda mac and cheese ($21). The pizza and pasta were super filling. I love how soft the pasta was and the creamy taste of the cheese. Pizza was also good. It was made pretty quickly and it came with ranch too. I got to try the crispy calamari and it was good. I definitely want to try their Thai Curry pizza next time. We were staying at the Marriott, and Base Camp Pizza was a 5-minute walk away and had top reviews on Yelp. We went there on a Tuesday around 5:30 and still had a 20-minute waitlist. I asked the hostess whether we could get a table furthest from the live band. To her credit, she gave us a big table that was furthest away from the band in the entire restaurant. We really appreciated that. I ordered a personal pepperoni, and my wife had a Mediterranean. Both pizzas were really good, and we split a small Greek salad, which was also good. So why am I giving a 3-star review? I asked our waitress if we ordered a bottle of wine and didn't finish it, could we bring it back to our hotel room. With a tone of certainty, she explained that we could not do that under California law. Well, I was just verifying we could do this; I've done it before, though it had been several years, so I was just confirming we could. So we wound up ordering by the glass, but later I brought up my good friend Claude on my phone and asked the same question. As it turns out, there is a California law that allows you to take an unfinished bottle of wine out of the restaurant. It needs to have the cork put back in, and you need to keep it in your trunk if driving. But we just had a 5-minute walk back to the hotel. So, when paying the bill, I informed the waitress, in a nice way, that I had just checked and that, under California law, you can take an unfinished wine bottle with you out of the restaurant. She didn't apologize or say anything, just smirked and told me this clearly pissed her off. I guess it could have been worse if we did order the wine bottle without asking her about it, and then she tried to block us as we left the restaurant. While I don't blame her for her lack of knowledge about this, as it was due to poor onboarding by her management, I do blame her for her negative reaction to my informing her of the California law. When your bill is over $100 for a party of two, your server should have some basic training on topics like this. read more
