Chose Bruschetta as our first family dinner spot during our trip to Tahoe and was very happy with our choice. Not only was the food excellent, but the service is what put them over the top. This restaurant was minutes away from our hotel so location wise, Bruschetta is in prime location if you are staying in or around South Lake Tahoe. Parking was relatively easy And our meal while having a few honest mistakes was remedied by our waiter Sean which made the meal truly 5 stars. There were a few mishaps with our order but we enjoyed what came out regardless, and the fact Sean did his best to remedy the situation despite the kitchen being closed at that point caused me to rank Bruschetta a bonafide 5 star Italian restaurant. Ambiance is very classy and feels authentic to what an Italian restaurant should be. Here's what we ordered: Roasted Cherry and Plum Bruschetta, Fried Calamari, Brussel Sprouts, Shrimp Caldo, 20 Layer Lasagna, Spaghetti and meatballs, and spicy Linguini and clams. To drink: an old fashioned, Peach cocktail, blueberry cocktail, and glass of red wine. Somehow, maybe due to it being later in the evening, they forgot to bring us our Shrimp Caldo, Brussel Sprouts, and red wine. We may have been the last customers, but we realized our entire order was not brought out so we mentioned it to our waiter to which he sincerely apologized and made right the best he could. Instead of getting defensive or making excuses, our waiter Sean took action and quickly resolved any issues which speaks volumes not only for him as a person but for the restaurant as a whole. We ended up ordering dessert after: tiramisu And vanilla gelato. Both were excellent and tipped generously. Last day in Tahoe and was craving some Italian. This place is bomb. We went right when they opened. Staff was amazing and took good care of my party of 10. Inside was very modern and flowy. Good natural lighting. The food was fantastic. One of the best bruschetta I had in my life. Definitely coming back for that alone next time I'm in Tahoe. Tahoe is a food desert where decent restaurants generally go extinct with little warning. This little Italian-food nook in an uninspiring commercial center up Kingsbury grade offers a change from the nearby casinos and bears. It has been around about a year and a half and replaced a former Italian shop - that had replaced a French one before that. I went there with a Italian food pro and an Englishman and even a German. I didn't mind the fare, but... If this spot were a British style pub called the 'Kingsbury Arms', then the traditional English cheese on toast they called 'bruschetta' would make more sense. Strong spaghetti - with grey meatballs. Some decent Italian red wine in wide proper bulbous glasses. Some uninspired plastic caprese with squeazy-bottle tasting balsemic. I liked the rich and complex Bolognese, but that wasn't unanimous. Nice service from a head guy who's at least 1/4 Sicilian I reckon, and the menu is not overpriced. A locals family hang. We honestly were not impressed. We were recommended this restaurant because we were celebrating our anniversary and were told it was fine dining. It is not fine dining. The word "fine" is on their menu and it may refer to the food, but the atmosphere is not fine dining at all. My first impression was the TV with football on it. This is a very sports bar feel. My next impression was how loud it was. Fine dining is not that loud. My third impression was the table we were sitting at. The placement where our feet go was at the top of a base of the table and it was super uncomfortable. I noticed not all the tables had that. Wish we could have sat a different place, but I didn't see an empty table and that was due to it being a small space, which I see nothing wrong with having a small space. The food tasted delicious, but my 20 layer lasagna was huge! Normally I don't complain about a big portion, but our waitress said there were 2 entrees that were huge. Why are the portions not the same throughout the entire menu? It should be. And, I highly doubt that was 20 layers. It would be huge vertically instead of horizontally. My husband said his dish was good, too, but his portion was rather small and it was beef tips instead of steak. Because there were some highs & (mostly) lows, that's why I gave it a 3 out of 5 stars. Traveling with a child who is a year and half is not for the faint of heart. Some days they decide that being confined is something they want to reject with their whole soul. This was one of those days when I was super hungry and stopped in here. The waitress took pity on me and grabbed me a coloring book with pencils to try to stave off his wily ways. At one point she even put some beans in a plastic container for him to shake. She was an angel sent from heaven. I had thought I knew what I wanted going in based off pictures I saw, but I guess they change a lot of their menu options around. My experience at Bruschetta had some highs and lows, so a 3-star rating seems appropriate. The good: The namesake bruschetta appetizer is incredible, crunchy bread with a layer of melted cheese and an abundance of halved tomatoes. I also loved the mussels and sausage -- the broth is especially memorable. The bad: We ordered the squid ink pasta with prawns, but got shrimp that were definitely smaller than expected. Compare the picture we have with what other people on Yelp have received. My best guess is that they ran out of the regular prawns, since we ate later in the evening. But it would have been nice if they had just told us to get something else. And there were a couple minor issues: we made a reservation but still had to wait a while, and there were spots of what looked like dried food on the menu and the napkin. I always order veal parm when it is on There menu but When I saw the price, I just thought I am not going to pay that much. At the advice of a server in another establishment, we went looking for some great Italian food our last night in Tahoe. Don't let the lack of curb appeal throw you, the interior is charming and set up well for intimate or larger parties. We came without a reservation and waited 5-10 minutes for a table. For a Tuesday night, the place was packed and lively. We ordered a delicious Brunello, the signature bruschetta and the Mac and cheese croquettes for starters. Entrees were a pasta and tomato sauce, the pasta with wild boar, and of course, the 20 layer lasagna. Everything is made in house and you can absolutely taste the love and attention to detail. The service was fast and friendly, and the owner came out and stopped by the table for a quick chat, telling us the story of how he came to Tahoe and the beginnings of this charming little place. A friend of mine invited me, and I'm so glad that I went. I'm Italian, and was nearly in happy tears more than once during this meal. We had the shrimp appetizer, and you MUST order this if you go. I would have been happy with dipping bread into the sauce and just a salad. So delicious! I also got a caesar salad and while those are ubiquitous in American Italian restaurants, not everyone does them well. I really appreciated the bitter escarole (endive). It really balances the parmesan and the dressing. My friend had the linguini with clams and that was a lovely, light version. I ordered the papparedelle with wild boar. It was rich and flavorful. From a food critic's perspective, I would like to have seen them highlight the boar more and cook the pappardelle a bit less. It was hard to taste the boar separately from the rest of the dish. From a homesick Italian American's perspective, no notes - it was so comforting and delicious. For dessert, we had tiramisu and affogato. I'd go there just to have the afforgato anytime I wanted a rich, robust treat. The espresso was dark and rich, made very well. Earthy without tasting burned and very robust in its roast. The tiramisu was lovely as well. I had a bite of my friend's cannoli and it reminded me a lot of my godmother's recipe. A lovely meal! The service was great, very nice folks. While on an annual guy's trip with longtime friends to South Lake Tahoe, we decided to check out Bruschetta as our go-to diner spot, Café Fiore, sadly closed this year. Located at Stateline, Bruschetta is an absolute gem offering some outstanding Italian food and drink staples in a unique and inviting atmosphere. Located in a busy retail mall space, the nondescript outside entrance gives way to a bustling, 5-person lively mecca inside. Our party of 5 was able to score a great table, thanks to online reservations, especially on a busy Friday night. Here's a breakdown of what our group ordered: House-Made Cheesy Garlic Focaccia Bread with Herb Olive Oil: Absolutely outstanding! Crispy on the edges, soft, chewy, cheesy and garlic-y throughout. A must-have starter! 20 Layer Lasagna: A huge portion delivering the finest of ingredients, overloading the plate with deliciousness in Bechamel, Pork, Veal, Prosciutto, Panchetta, Pomodoro Sauce, Parmesan Cheese and Basil. Tagliatelle Sugo Oxtail: Rich, Bold, Amazingly Oxtail Marinated in Mirepoix, Red Wine and Herb Creme Fraiche. We tried this restaurant while visiting South Lake Tahoe. It was a Saturday and we arrived around 7:20pm. Our reservation was at 730pm. The place was packed and there was really no space to wait. We were seated at 7:48pm and our server came to our table at 7:55pm to take our drink orders. Drinks arrived at 8:01pm and then we put in our order. Food arrived at 8:25pm. Bread served only upon request. My boyfriend ordered the lasagna. It had good flavor and a generous portion. I ordered the lamb pappardelle. It was delicious! Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. Blend of flavors was perfect. Portion was just right and lamb pieces were adequate. Parmesan fresh-grated upon request Our server said that the restaurant opened mid-2024. Only open for dinner and last seating is at 8:45pm. I am glad they are doing well. Restaurant is not that big so it is great that they accept reservations, but hope they seat people on time. Our server told us that perhaps they took in more walk ins that evening who went past the time they were expected to finish their meals. Perhaps, a small bench or designated waiting area especially during the winter when it is uncomfortable to wait outside. I did not use the restroom, but heard it was not in the restaurant (I think out in the hallway, shared by other establishments in the building). Limited parking. Wow, I'm hearing good things about a new restaurant in a very competitive town. First, the food, all of it, was excellent. Look at the pictures, you'll agree. We started with the Mussels with Fennel Sausage, moved on to the seasonal special Arugula salad with prosciutto, figs and burrata, and shared the special, which tonight was a serving of scallops with pork belly. The sausage, which was house made, was excellent and the broth that came with the mussels was so tasty I found myself wanting to lick the bowl. The salad was an arugula salad and well done. I love all the ingredients in this salad. I'm sucker for prosciutto, figs and burrata, and they were all presented well in this dish. The special was out of this world. I thought the scallops were cooked in a way that I totally enjoyed. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They had an excellent sauce on them and the pork belly was cooked to a level of excellence that needs to be tasted to fully appreciate. As is always the case, my wife and I share all the courses we eat, but I would have rather not for this one... I wanted every bite. It's a new restaurant and so you're supposed to give it some time to work out the kinks, aren't you? They still have some kinks to work out, and they, in my mind were minor, but enough of a concern that they need to be mentioned, especially if you want to be a 'go to' spot in a tourist town. What were the errors? We bought a bottle of good red wine (a bottle of Ridge Zinfandel), and it was served to us at a temperature above the room's temperature. I understand a room temperature red wine, but this was noticeably warm. We don't complain, as we're simply not built that way, and I'm trying to be nice here, and so I would encourage the establishment to reconsider their options for storing their wine prior to service. Beyond that, our silverware was cleared at one point, but no clean silverware was offered, and so when our entree arrived, we had to ask the server for silverware. To her credit we drink a lot of water, and our glasses were refreshed consistently throughout the meal. Again, these are minor concerns, but they do become noticeable when you are competing in a tourist market with four big casinos featuring restaurants called Wolf, Hell's Kitchen, Friday's Station, the Sage Room, and smaller places with a legacy like Evans and Cafe Fiore, and the list goes on. I've had a running dialog with a sommelier that I know, and he says, "The only thing that's important in a restaurant is the quality of the food! It trumps service every time." I argue, "The food is important, after all, that's why you're in the room, but if it's not served in professional fashion and you're paying a premium price, the quality of the food is undermined by the lack of great service." Friends recommended this place as authentic Italian and we were not disappointed! Taking home tomorrow's dinner (lasagna and osso bucco) and can't wait to eat it again. Limoncello was so yummy... We will be back to try brunch, lunch and dinner again and send all our friends. Waitstaff delightful as well. read more
