Bit of a dive bar feel, sitting just off the Tennessee River. There actually is more seating outside than there is inside. Decent draft beer selection, which will always resonate well with me. We were there with the grandkids, so here's the first comment, while I don't expect a culinary masterpiece for a kids meal, a grilled cheese sandwich should be more than a slice of Kraft cheese between two slices of bread, and when a six year old complains that the popcorn chicken is nothing but breading, you've got an issue. I went with the special as I was talked out of the beef stew. It was a melted turkey breast sandwich, with bacon on sourdough. It was okay, only, would never have guessed it was sourdough, it was a bit light on the protein, a totally forgettable experience. Make Basecamp YOUR base camp bar and restaurant! We were about to head out of town and needed a quick bite to eat that was also dog friendly - and Basecamp landed on my radar. The outdoor seating is rustic but comfortable, especially with my pup in tow. The Hoff's Hot campfire wings are FIRE, no pun intended. Not too spicy, but perfectly saucy and meaty. The Basecamp stew was a little heavy but hearty. The tacos were also solid, stuffed with meat, sauce and toppings. But is it wrong for me to say that I LOVED the fries the most? Because I couldn't stop eating them. Food is solid and prices are reasonable: I'll definitely be back next time I'm back in Chattanooga for wings, fries and a beer (I was all boozed out this trip already). read more

It's fair to say I like Base Camp's location and back patio, a lot of the seating needs to be redone as there's peeling paint and warped wood everywhere. I was careful to avoid splinters when I sat down. The food was very underwhelming. The Stew was more like a beef gravy with mushrooms, very salty, tasted like it had been simmering for weeks, and that nobody had bothered to taste it for whether it was fit to serve. Nachos were my next plate and I didn't finish them, they had some decent queso but were cold when served and were just chips with unmelted cheddar. Nothing about them said "good nachos", when I'm confident my 8 year old nephew could've popped something more satisfying out of the microwave. Also it took forever to get the food, close to 35 mins to get a beer, a bowl of soup, and nachos is pretty terrible when they're not even that busy. read more

Our food was just ok, I had the Mac and cheese and it could use more cheese sauce/flavor for being labeled gourmet and was a bit cold which I was surprised by since it wasn't a super big restaurant. I did order grilled chicken but they forgot that. Cornbread had a weird taste to it, we couldn't figure out. In for an early lunch on a cloudy but comfortable day. First time on the North Shore and first time to this interesting restaurant. We passed through the restaurant on the way to the patio/deck which offers delicious views to the river. An expansive beer selection accompanying a comfort food menu awaits. The fifth star would require better cleaning- the food, fork and other stuff on the floor needs to not be there, but it looked like they are short staffed like every other restaurant. Our server was great, knew the beer offerings and made suggestions that were perfect for both of us. My burger was delicious and the sweet potato fries were seasoned well, but could have been a bit crispier. My wife had the quesadilla and cornbread and liked both. We traveled to Chattanooga for spring break and met up with some friends for Sunday dinner. After visiting several parks and stores our group got hungry and stumbled on Basecamp. When we arrived the indoor area, which is on the smaller side but packed with ample seating was open but since the day was beautiful we wanted to sit outside. We found a picnic table that sat our group of seven! Our server was friendly and immediately got our drink orders. The beers we ordered were in cans but looked like they also had beers on tap. They have a kids meal, hooray! The kiddos ordered popcorn chicken with fries but they also had 2 sliders and cheese quesadilla. My son loves chicken wings so I asked if the dry rub was spicy and was told it was not and more on the sweeter side, so I ordered him the wings. I ordered the southern chicken salad, which was grilled chicken, Parmesan cheese, apple slices and candies pecans - it was sooo good! My husband ordered the patty melt, which he said was good. Nothing super special but the food arrived quickly and hit the spot. So glad we found this low key restaurant with great outdoor seating. Another great food find due to Yelp. We were on Chattanooga's north shore and looked on Yelp for a nearby recommendation. This was close and had awesome feedback. They were right. Local corner bar feel. Treated everyone like a local. I was fooded out being on vacation and all so I got a salad. Now you won't hear me say that often. But I got some wings too.... My wife had a salad too. I had a cobb on salad, the bacon and blue cheese help make any salad better. It had chicken too. My wife had some sort of salad. She liked that too. The wings were the stars of the meal. I'm picky about wings being from Buffalo originally but these were very good. Crispy. That is table stakes. Offer blue cheese (not ranch, no one from Buffalo uses ranch in wings, my only complaint, and it's a picky, is the sauce wasn't hot enough but they were reaallly goood. Good prices too. I think I had two beers and this all cost $30 or less. One more thing that I want to share... an older couple came in. The gentleman was in one of those scooters. One of the servers helped him carry the scooter into the bar. I was getting up to help the guy but I saw the server come over. And when they left she helped carry it out. We come once a month for "wing Wednesday!" Something like 80 cents for a wing and they are delicious! The service is wonderful and the servers are fast and great conversationalists. I live in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania but used to live in Chattanooga. It was my first time to eat at Basecamp. Some friends who live here took me and it was wonderful! We had Basecamp nachos, some tacos and fried okra. Fried okra was the favorite of the six-year-old :-). It was also neat for me as we rode bicycles there to eat. They had a rack we could hang them on and we sat out on the deck. It was a beautiful day and the deck was perfect. We did not bring any dogs but you could have those there too and there were a couple. Our server kept our drinks filled. She seemed to hustle between several tables and took a good care of us. As I had not eaten here before I did not realize you had to look up the menu online and she did not explain that. We eventually figured it out. I visited the restroom which was clean and I appreciated the paper towels. I would say my only complaint is they did not have straws at the restaurant. This is definitely a place I will visit again on a return trip to Chattanooga! read more

With how much I anticipated visiting Basecamp Bar & Restaurant, I honestly thought I would enjoy it. Unfortunately, it just didn't really match what I was expecting based on the menu, other reviews, and pictures I had seen. We tried the Basecamp Stew and Fire in the Hole Potato with a side of Roasted Zucchini & Squash. One of our party also had a cup of coffee. Basecamp Stew -- Not a stew but, rather a soup, this dish was so light on the pot roast that it was almost unnoticeable. The main staples seemed to be the broth, followed by the Beans and rice. It really seemed more like an enchilada soup than a pot roast stew. Fire in the Hole Potato -- A medium sized potato with a balanced layering of the described toppings. We got ours with the BBQ sauce and added Pulled Pork. Whether it was the BBQ sauce or Pulled Pork that had a kick to it, I am uncertain but, this dish definitely had a slight kick and a nice balance. Roasted Zucchini & Squash -- This vegetable medley does not seem to be cooked via roasting but simply finished using the namesake method. They had a layer of shredded cheese melted overtop, which was not in the item description. Coffee -- The coffee was described as having a rather poor and very weak taste. All in all, I sadly have to say I was disappointed. We will not be back for another visit and I can not recommend Basecamp Bar & Restaurant for those looking for a good level of food quality. read more
