As I get ready to write this review, I just realized, I had been coming to the history Miami Museum for a long time. From one of my first fourth grade field trips to their educational boat cruises around the bay presented by museum lecturer Dr. Paul George. However, this most recent visit was thanks to Farah and Yelp's invite for the "Waves of Change" exhibit opening night. This exhibit focused on Miami's history as a fashion capital especially when it came to beachwear. I had the chance to see the different historical eras, and see some models showing them. There was also an interactive station where people could come up with their own designs. On the note of the more things change the more they stay the same, there was a poster telling how Carl Fisher (the founder of Miami Beach) would send pictures of the beautiful Miami ladies in swimsuits to investors up north so they could come to Miami. So basically 1920s / 30s Thirst traps :) Some other notable exhibits included Polaroids of the Liberty City area, as well as general Miami scenery. The free drinks by Bacaradi (Coconut, Mango Chile & classic) made for a perfect happy hour vibe; of the passed bites, my favorites were the Thai chicken & the Arancini. It's beautiful architecture really makes you feel like you are part of historical Miami. And if you love all things Miami History, like me, this museum is just for you! Last time I was here was for the Walter Mercado exhibit which was amazing. We were also able to visit the other building which has more museum exhibits. This particular evening we came in through the courtesy of Yelp to the grand opening of the Waves of Style Swimwear through the Decades opening night event. The event had a drinks and passed bites and allowed you the opportunity to enter the museum and see the new exhibit on the second floor. A fantastic evening was had with my Yelp squad and the event was so much fun. A wonderful way to spend a night in Miami immersed in history and fun. I definitely want to become a museum member and purchase a membership.

I got an evite for an opening event at Basel and found it wasn't. Although off the beaten path from the traditional gallery walk, it can make a walk all its own. There are two stories of artists there, a lot of whom you can talk to about their work, including my personal favorite - Daniel Fila, the creator of the "J-Lo Mural" off 36th & Biscayne. (If you've driven by you know what I'm talking about) Add to that the whole old-building ambiance and the chance to see old structure (huge bolted trusses and expose I-beams) and you're in heaven as a true art lover. Oh, and by the way, a couple of the artists have said that it is haunted ;).

I came (pun intended) here this past Saturday as the first stop of the Vibration pub crawl along Washington Avenue the location to pick up the ticket. The organizers at the front desk by the entry and a good variety of red and chocolate wines as well as a cocktail. I enjoyed both of the wines with the red being a good social lubricant. As far as the museum, it occupies two floors. The ground floor had a Kama Sutra sandbox bed (with art engraved on the bed posts). There were also a few engravings as well as a live music show as part of the pub crawl. The second floor of the museum had mostly books and paintings.

I will say, the grounds are absolutely delightful, especially if you go in the Springtime as we did where flowers are all in full bloom, that alone is worth the ticket price. The architecture is exquisite! A feast for the eyes in so many ways. When we came to visit, they were doing renovations. You could see the water damage on the roof and walls, probably caused by one of the many Summer storms, because of that the tickets were at a discount that day but we were still able to appreciate the beauty of Viscaya. There are two cafe's. One in the garden of the main house, and another across the street where farm animals use to be kept. Surprisingly, the food and drinks are reasonably priced. The day we were there, a wedding was going to take place and there was a lot of commotion going on. Fancy tables being set up, fine china, crystal glasses, the whole works. We asked a security guard how much it costs to have a wedding reception there and he said: "Just to rent the space, no tables, no nothing, starting price is 100k". So if you have 100k lying around, and plan to get married soon, this could be an option for you. Jokes aside though; I'd definitely visit again.

We were able to see most of the rooms in the house and almost all of the garden. We were there the last week in April. The flowers were not popping as they were the last time I was there in July. I am not sure why that is. I do wish that they kept the ocean front a little cleaner. There has to be a way to clean up the sargasm and trash on a daily basis. So, this is a bit of a complex review to write because the take-away is that I loved my visit, but…read morethe experience left me wanting more, mainly because the subject matter of the main exposition was just not my cup of tea, but I can see how it would appeal to the Miami community because of their love for sports. The setting and location could not be better - totally breathtaking. Views of the causeway and Biscayne Bay / Downtown Miami are amazing. The architectural details with concrete and MCM inspired wooden accents are just perfect. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful, and definitely added to our experience, and the gift shop is great. The restaurant is excellent and has a thoughtful menu, with several items that are inspired by pieces from the permanent collection. The sports art exhibit took much more space than I would have liked. There is a LOT of money in Miami, and I would have expected a permanent collection or even visiting exposition that would rival museums in New York, Philadelphia, or Washington, DC. - modern art, Impressionism, renaissance, or other fine art would be incredible. That being said, I will definitely return to enjoy the museum, and look forward to seeing where their artistic directors take things in years to come!

It's a beautiful, sophisticated room, perfect for small weddings, art openings or corporate mixer type things, just to name a few. Second, I'm not an architect, but I love Miami and architecture:design in general so signing up for the mailing list has proven to be a great way to learn about cool goings-on. So far I've attended an architectural tour of Downtown and seen a great DJ play on a Friday evening. This is why I love Miami.

We stopped by Crane Point Nature Center and Museum in Marathon around 3:30 pm in mid-January. It…read morewas a bit late in the day for a full visit, but we still found it interesting. The trails were peaceful and easy to walk with toddlers, and the main lookout point was definitely the highlight. The views alone made the stop worthwhile. The museum had some informative displays about local history and the environment, which was a nice addition even though our kids were more focused on walking the paths. Since we arrived later in the afternoon, we didn't get to explore everything, so I'd recommend visiting earlier in the day if you can. Still, it was a pleasant, low-key outing and a solid stop if you're in the Marathon area.

Lots of shade to enjoy a walk in nature. The fish pedicure is a perfect place to rest for a while, I loved it. The museum is great with very interesting artifacts and history.

This exhibit was so much fun!!! Located at Mana Wynwood…read moreConvention center, there is a private lot for it, but since it's located in Wynwood there is also plenty of street parking available. I came with a group of friends and we purchased our tickets online in advance and each adult ticket was about $56. They require time slots to ensure the exhibits are not over crowded at any point in time which we realized was very helpful while we were there. Once we entered the convention center, we made the line and were led into the first room and from then on we were able to walk into each next room at our own pace which was nice because we weren't being rushed despite the time slots on our tickets. There was at least one attendant in each room where the art exhibit was not meant to be touched or stood on. There were so many interesting photo and video opportunities throughout the exhibit. Which was awesome, but experiencing it is completely different (videos and pictures are not as fun. Some of the installations are interactive and of course this is a family friendly exhibit so that is something to keep in mind as there were a lot of children present and at moments it was very loud and rowdy. My only complaint is that the only way to get to the bathroom was either way the very beginning or very end of the experience, so if you needed to use the bathroom halfway through, you would have to walk through the entire museum to get to the restroom. At the very end there is a gift shop where they had tons of balloon art, toys and cute trinkets for purchase. They also had a seating area and a cafe with some sandwiches, pastries and refreshments. Overall a cool experience and I would recommend this to anyone with children, or someone looking for a cute date idea.
