Going to a sergeant is never fun since they end up opening you up but I really like Dr Bashner. He's a nice guy and treats people well " observing from the few times I visited his office". He installed a late on my tibia right below the knee about 7 weeks ago and I'm happy with the results. Communication with office could be a bit better but not a deal breaker. I wouldn't normally leave a comment like this but I'm so bothered by what transpired I feel compelled. After a fall from a horse I ended up in hospital. I had broken my wrist, not awful, but also seriously broken upper arm/shoulder. Surgical neck fracture of the humerus, multiple breaks, and the top of the bone was completely out of the socket. Yet somehow Dr Bashner, who was assigned to me by the hospital, didn't think I needed surgery to fix it. I challenged this as I could see and feel what was going on in my shoulder and there seemed no way this could heal properly on its own. He told me to google injury to see he was right and sitting there with him I did that and every search result said surgery was the treatment. He tried to tell me the search results were not accurate. After being discharged I saw two different surgeons who both agreed surgery was absolutely required. The bone was actually visible through my skin - the top of my humerus was pressing through the skin well below the shoulder and had continued to move and drop lower - and there is no way it would "heal on its own" as Dr Bashner suggested. Not if I ever wanted to have full use of my arm ever again. I am an older woman but very active (note the horse mention) and exercise regularly. But I honestly believe that Dr Bashner just assumed that because I am older and female that I am probably just sedentary and not worthy of surgery. Agism or misogyny or a combo of both. Whatever his reasons were for giving such misguided advice, it doesn't matter. Clearly ensuring I had the best possible chance of a full recovery was not a priority for him. I could never recommend Dr Bashner to anyone. read more

Before you allow some stranger to put you to sleep and remove your entire knee, you really need to have trust that he can accomplish YOUR goals--walk well again, without pain. Dr. Bashner gets 10 stars for his work and another for his sense of humor. He is a perfectionist! Thank God he is young because my husband's other knee needs to be replaced in the near future. Dr. Bashner is honest, up front, and genuinely cares, not only about his work on your body but about your overall well being. Gil's knee is going through the process of physical therapy but he is well on his way to complete recovery. The girls who work with him in his office are also some of the nicest, most reliable and caring group you could meet. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! During my first appointment, I had to wait over 30 minutes to get checked. Today, 50 minutes and counting. It's very unprofessional to keep patients waiting for that long. It is rude and inconsiderate! I had to rearrange my day for this appointment. The doctor stated he wasn't aware of the situation of the patient before me, but his staff could've easily let me know that it is going to be awhile. I would've been happy to reschedule instead of waste my time waiting. Some people have other things too. Not coming back here. There are other doctors out there who are way more professional than this. read more

My 11 year old daughter was complaining about her knee so I contacted my insurance and I was given his number as a doctor under our network. This would mean that my visit copay should only be $ 60.00. But since we reached our family deductible, my copay was $ 0.00. So my husband picked her up at school early and took her. When he checked her in the front lady, very rude and not professional, told him that the copay is $ 180.00, and when he asked to verify again w the insurance she told him no. At home I called the insurance myself and I was correct!! So I called the doc office and the manager, very rude as well, told me that they have the right to charge me that amount!!!!!!! I could not believe it!!! So if they want to charge you $1000.00 , is their right!!! LOL Where did they learn costumer service ??? read more

The receptionist is rigid and unwaivering and will not work with you under normal circumstances to schedule the appt, i had to keep my kid home from school and was sent their online portal to enter my info prior to the appt their portal is broken and i was not able to use it i was told come exactly 15 min prior to do paperwork or loose your appointment i asked to arrive 10 min early and that was unacceptable (a 5 min window) after i told her i had to keep my kid home from school that day just to make the appointment and she still would not allow 5 min grace i would have to reschedule for a week later , i will be seeing a different physician and will not be supporting this business. read more

Wow, maybe he learned his lesson or got re-educated but when I took my mom to him way back in 2001 for a hip replacement she had very bad knee pain. He said she needed surgery on both knees (at the same time no less) done before he would do hip surgery. I said HUH! She can barely walk now how is she supposed to walk with simultaneous knee surgeries. Needless to say we left and never went back. Eventually I took her to another doctor who said her knee pain was entirely coming from her hip and sure enough as soon as her hip was replaced wella - no more knee pain. No need to one knee or any knee to have surgery. What the heck kind of doctor is he anyway. Oh yeah one that gets paid with each surgery no doubt. If I could give Dr Bashner a half or no stars I would. He's rude, abrupt and so disrespectful to his patients and staff. He has the worst bedside manner of any doctor I've ever met. I took my mom there to talk about getting her hip replaced and he refused to do anything on her. Instead spent the whole time telling her she's fat (shes 5'9 and weighs 165) and he wouldn't do surgery until she lost weight. Then looks at me and says "Well you're no help to your mom...look at you!" referring to MY weight. I immediately took my mom out of there and never went back. I really don't know how he has patients. Doctor Bashner is our family's hero. Yes, it is true that his bedside manner is shall I say different than other doctors. However, his honesty, frankness, and abilities are amazing. If I could give the guy six stars I would. My 83 years old mom ended up in Los Robles Hospital with a swollen knee and blood clots. He problem solved her condition and discovered that care being provided so far were based on old assumptions that other doctors did not question. He got her care on track. If he had not figured this out my mom would have continued a downhill spiral. If you are looking for a doctor to give you a hug this isn't the guy. If you want a competent doctor who will be frank with you then I would go with him. read more

Dr. Bashner is a fantastic orthopedic surgeon!! I've just finished with the second of two total hip replacements using the services of Dr. Bashner. He is a total perfectionist. He is always going out of his way to ensure the quality outcome of the procedure. He truly cares about your injury and he wants to help you either to prevent another one in the future or to minimize the impact of a future event for the patient's betterment. Not sure what's up with all the talk about bedside manner, but he was very professional in the ER at Los Robles after my horrible femoral fracture, and went out of his way to fit me in early the next morning when the staff wanted to put it off until the later the next evening. The outcome is terrific and pain is unbelievably minimal considering the size of the pins. I attribute this to his meticulous care in getting the insert done perfectly. I now have no alignment issues and feel I could not have had better care anywhere. Great job. read more

If you want your prognosis sugar coated or can't handle the bare facts, find another doctor. If you want a highly skilled surgeon who tells it straight, sometimes painfully, see Dr. Bashner. Yes, his bedside manner is a bit rough and he can be abrupt, but wouldn't you rather have all the facts so you can develop a plan and have a procedure with a successful outcome? I had seen several Orthopedic surgeons for debilitating chronic pain in the groin that had seriously impacted my mobility and active lifestyle. The only remedy that the surgeons could prescribe was hip replacement based on my history of Labrum issues. I finally went to Doctor Bashner, who suggested I go in a different direction and see a General Surgeon on what he initially diagnosed as hernia related. I was skeptical, but agreed to see a local General Surgeon. The local GP could not find anything related to a hernia. After that, I went back to Doctor Bashner, who, after a few tests in his office, pointed me to a specialist in Santa Monica. That specialist eventually pointed me to a General Surgeon that understood my symptoms and recommended Sports Hernia surgery. Something the local GPs don't know about. I'm now happy to say that the surgery worked and I am now pain free. If it was not for Doctor Bashner, I would probably still be in pain today. I appreciate his willingness to think outside his own specialty and to have diagnosed the real problem. If you have unexplained groin pain and need a Orthopedic Surgeon that is willing to think outside the box and point you in the right direction, Doctor Bashner is the one. read more

I saw Dr. Bashner several years ago for a torn meniscus, which was very painful. He performed arthroscopic surgery on my knee and I have a full recovery. Dr. Bashner is a surgeon, not a psychologist, and he is straight forward. My weight was an issue to my knee recovery, but if he did not tell me that, he would be remiss as weight management is something only I can control to take excess strain off of my knee. He was never rude, in fact, I perceived he might have been a little uncomfortable having to address my weight as a part of my recovery. I always found Dr. Bashner to be polite and very effective in his medical care and I am grateful to have him as my orthopedist. Last year, I had an accident and completely dislocated my elbow and broke my arm. Dr. Bashner set my dislocated elbow and treated my fractures, and I have now have full use of my arm with no pain.
