I've been to this business before and now have mixed emotions. So why 4 stars, and not 5? Let's chat: Service was spectacular. I was seated quickly, and was never in need of anything. Ordered a Diet Coke, egg roll, and red curry beef with brown rice. The egg roll was fantastic and offered a side of fantastic spicy (horseradish I presume) mustard with duck sauce. No issues; was awesome. But, the red curry beef was, frankly, lackluster. The beef was very tender (probably marinated with baking soda to break it down) but the red curry sauce was boring. It lacked salt and fresh herbs such as thai basil or cilantro that would have immediately elevated it. I had the same dish earlier this year and it was different. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday for lunch with some friends. It was busy but the wait was only a few minutes. We were escorted to our table and looked around at the decor while we looked through our menus. I knew I was up for trying a few things after reading some other reviews. I ordered the spicy wontons and crab Rangoon for appetizers. A spider sushi roll to share with my husband. He ordered the orange chicken and I settled on pho for my main entree. The crab Rangoon was the first thing to arrive. Delicious!! I wish we would have ordered two servings. The sauce for dipping is divine. Seriously so good. The next to arrive was the sushi. It was good. Nothing over the top amazing. The wasabi was creamy and not overly hot which I enjoyed. I always love the fresh GINGER that comes with sushi. We got our spicy wontons just before our main entrees were served. Wish it had come just a bit sooner. My husband's first time trying it and he really like it. The taste was good. They fold them differently than I've had them at other restaurants which makes them challenging to eat without cutting them in half or making a mess. Otherwise good. I would order them again. The pho of course always needs the fixings that accompany it. They didn't serve jalapenos on the side which was surprising to me. It was good but I've had better. Something I wasn't sure about was the eating it. I think I'll go with something different the next time. Overall it was a great visit. The wonton soup was good but could have been warmer. The Tom Yum soup was very flavorful and spicy!! The pan fried noodles (with pork) was excellent. Nicely prepared and a large portion. We also ordered the Satay chicken which was a bit different than any Satay I'd had before. Crispy on the outside almost like a tandoori chicken. Different but good. I ordered carry out while I was in town for a work conference and was very happy with the food! For an appetizer, I got the salt and pepper calamari and it was excellent. As an entree I got the Pad Thai with tofu and it was outstanding. I could specify the spice level and it was perfect. I got two pieces of salmon sushi and it was fresh and delicious. When going in to pick up the food, the restaurant was beautiful and staff was friendly. If I get to come back to Wooster for work then I will certainly re-order from here! read more

Stopped over at Basil Asian Bistro for lunch while going through town. Tom Yum soup was amazing. Very unique flavor compared to Tom yum I have had before. Lemon grass, chicken and amazing spicy level. Excellent service. Clean and welcoming interior. Excellent mode lighting. Good place for even a larger group. Spicy peanut curry is amazing and loaded with flavor so is the Pataya Curry. I highly recommend Basil Thai restaurant. They also have an amazing sushi selection. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food and the exceptional service we received at the restaurant. It is easy to think that since Wooster is a small town, that they won't have quality dining, but that is totally not the case. The food rivals some major cities and the prices are more affordable. We started with the Thai Rolls with came with 6 little crispy spring rolls chock full of meat and not just cabbage like most places. They were perfectly fried and delicious. I ordered Pan Fried noodles with shrimp for my meal and loved how the vegetables weren't cooked to mush. The sauce was perfect and not too salty. This dish reminded me of PF Chang's dish, but elevated. I had started with the Egg Drop soup to warm up and my only complaint was that it was not super hot, just lukewarm when served. I've been to Basil a couple times for lunch when I happen to be in Wooster. It's a good spot for what they provide. Plenty of food at a good price. A wide variety of options for any person's interest in the cuisine. There is no possibility of extremely hot spices with this Thai cuisine as it is Wooster, Ohio but it still tastes good. Their menus are extremely large-sized which I find a little annoying for what they are as a restaurant but I suppose that doesn't really take away from the whole experience. Ultimately, it's a good place to go to if in downtown, feeling up for a filling meal and a nice conversation and not have to break the bank for that kind of experience. read more

This restaurant is located in downtown Wooster and I highly recommend eating here. We ate an early dinner which was good because as it got closer to 6 pm, the restaurant became more crowded. As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted and a minute later, escorted to a table. Someone brought water and menus to our table. Shortly after that, our server took our appetizer order. This restaurant has super good apps. There are many unique ones to choose from. We had the Thai rolls, Crab Rangoon and lettuce wraps with chicken. The Thai rolls were my favorite. We also ordered entrees and the one I ordered was amazing. It was a dish made of chicken, rice noodles, Thai rolls, fresh veggies and topped with crushed peanuts. DELICIOUS! Our server was very attentive to us during our meal. We were also thanked for eating at Basil. Recommendation: if you want to eat here on the weekend, make reservations. When basil came to town I wasn't a huge fan. I didn't get much enthusiasm out of it and it just wasn't something to be excited over. We recently went back and had a great time. We sat right next to the kitchen, and watched as they piled plates on top of plates under the heat light. As we watched the host arguing with the chef and yelling, 9 plates crashed to the floor, piled with food. Me and my daughters plates were cold, while my other daughters were blazing hot. This is an awesome gem I stumbled across in Wooster while looking for a lunch spot. Inside, the interior looks like something you'd find in the trendy downtown section of a large city rather than rural Ohio. There was plenty of seating available even during the lunch hour with both table and booth seating. Service was great and fast; the server was attentive and brought drink refills when glasses got low without even being asked (a nice touch). The menu is quite large with sushi and rolls as well as Chinese and Thai offerings. Cocktails are available. I opted to start with an egg roll and then tried the chicken Pad See Ew. The egg roll had a crispy crunch and was slightly oily. Inside the filling was hot and contained both veggies and pork. The Pad See Ew was a huge portion for about $8 and was chock full of perfectly prepared chicken breast along with egg, veggies (including chunks of green pepper) and, of course, noodles. The noodles were perhaps just a bit on the soft side, but overall the dish was delicious. It was not heavily sauced or seasoned which really allowed you to taste the natural flavors of the individual ingredients. This was a surprisingly excellent restaurant tucked away in rural Ohio and well worth the visit! read more

The egg drop soup unfortunately did not contain any bamboo or tofu, which was disappointing.
