    Chewy curry noodles, packed
    Mike C.

How does one write a review for a closed business? Answer: Pastel. Having tried many makers' foods in the past six months, I happened to read the menu here and something caught my eye. Having tried a number of other businesses' noodle dishes, it was an automatic to try their chewy curry noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=SZ7YaXpxSSdH05i1RCk5cA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); not knowing what to expect, I was happily overwhelmed by the flavors, textures, and variety of ingredients in this meal. The noodles certainly lived up to its name being chewy in a good way. The portions were large as I could only finish 3/4th in one sitting. The rest became my soup for another meal. I also how well packed my meal was (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=i-ApDc8OXDxl4UWBSqKqFQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). Will look at their menu and check whether anything tempts me again like this one did. Try this if you are adventurous.

"The Hearty": Everything about this was superb. Get yourself to Basil the Bold!

As the date of my 5-day workshop approached the instructor supplied a short list of nearby places to grab lunch, noting that there weren't a whole lot of options in the Hunter's Point Shipyard area. This proved just the impetus I needed to prove him wrong. If Basil the Bold is anywhere nearby you really won't care if there is absolutely nothing else in the area. Operating out of a building on Third Street, it seems Basil the Bold mostly processes orders for home delivery (though they're currently doing a Sunday Pop-Up at Laughing Monk Brewing). The address sports a sign announcing the business but it sits on a locked metal gate. I called when I arrived, to ask how to get inside, and was told someone would be out in a couple of minutes. I'd grown so excited by Basil the Bold's menu that when it came time to order I'd opted for The Hearty ($13.50) + a couple of add-ons, desirous of sampling as broadly as possible. The Hearty includes chicken, tofu, chickpeas, and nuts atop thick, chewy noodles and a plethora of fresh, crunchy vegetables. Packaged separately, but intended to go atop The Hearty, is a rich, spicy, red Thai curry sauce and a separate container of some sort of firey dipping elixir. I cannot overstate how excellent and satisfying this entire dish was. Basil the Bold has got spicy Thai-inspired bowls on lock-down. Nobody else is doing anything like this and if they were, I guarantee it wouldn't be as delicious as these. 100% 5-star reviews don't lie. I can't recommend this place more highly. There's a superstar in the kitchen here and everyone should be lining up to support her delicious offering. I cannot wait to return.

    The Crispy

#1, not sure why I only bought 3 items. NEED to try the other items. (sando, chicken, salad and wraps) #2, veggies were fresh, crispy tofu and chicken was super crispy and flavorful, "rich red curry sauce" was indeed rich. Menu descriptions are true to taste! Ordered: The Hearty - Comes with Crispy chicken (dark meat), poached tofu and the red curry on the side. We also ordered the Coco the Nutty (sauce) and poured it over the noodles, SUCH a good combo! The Crispy - The larb spices look this dish to the next level! A hint of heat, savory umami from the garlic/shallots, fried basil and hint of citrus. Genius! Wakes up my taste buds. I saw that they sell a "larb" kit so I might have to try this next time! The Vegan - Doubted the poached tofu at first, but it was quite flavorful! Crispy tofu pairs so well with the fresh veggies and Thai flavors. Wishes : Only thing is that I wish was if the rice portion decreases a little so that more protein (chicken or tofu was given). We ate the 3 items and was very satisfied but wished there was more crispy goodness. Alternativly, we will also order a side of crispy chicken next time!

DELIVERY: BYO Chewy Noodles w/ crispy tofu+chicken, larb spice ($13.66) & Purple Rice w/ crispy chicken, red curry ($14.06). Spicy: “BOLD”.

COVID-19 DELIVERY Basil the Bold is NOT messing around. If you like spicy foods...like legit Thai spicy, they'll bring it! I thought I was tough so I choose the "BOLD" spice level and added the XX Hot Thai Chili. FIYAH.... Literally. Mouff was on fiyah. I was dry heavin'. Snot dripped outta my nose. I swear, my tummy could bake some buns from the heat. Ummm yea, not so tough after all...I hope Basil the Bold doesn't change a thing for those who like it HAWT! Ghost kitchens can be a gamble so thanks to Adrienne H. for putting Basil the Bold on my radar to try. Basil the Bold is a one-woman show churning out BYO, customizable Thai rice bowls, noodle bowls, salad bowls, and sandwiches (Acme bread). Vegan, vegetarian, and keto-friendly. B Y O B O W L S * Base: Jasmine rice, purple rice (yay for riceberry!), and chewy noodles. * Protein: Poached or crispy tofu, baked or crispy chicken. * Sauce: Red curry or citrusy toasted rice "larb" * Spice levels: No chili, mild, medium, and bold. * Add-ons: Avocado, chickpeas, extra fried shallot, spiced fish sauce, and XX Thai hot chili. I ordered via UberEats and my lunch order was delivered as quoted, within an hour. Bag was stapled shut along with a tamper-proof seal. Food arrived hot in compostable containers (I live about 8 minutes away). Appreciate the thoughtful presentation; there was a banana leaf at the bottom of each container. The bag even had a handwritten note with a smiley face (love!), cute elephant logo sticker, and a postcard was included with discount code for my next order. Delivery has become a way of life for many during covid. 3rd party apps take a big cut so I'm glad to see a tip option that you can add to your cart. F O O D * BYO Bowl ($10) w/ purple rice ($.89), crispy brined chicken ($.99), red curry sauce ($1.69), extra shallots ($.49); total: $14.06. **Spice level: Bold; added XX Hot Thai Chili **Includes papaya salad, carrots, and cucumbers. --Purple rice: Perfectly cooked, chewy and nutty. --Crispy chicken: The tempura battered boneless chicken thigh was tender and moist. It did lose some of its crispness during transit but that's the nature of delivery. --Red curry sauce, bold: Bold and flavorful with lots of heat, basil, and tender carrots for a bit of sweetness. * BYO Bowl ($10) w/ chewy noodles ($.99), crispy deluxe-crispy tofu+chicken ($1.39), citrusy toasted rice "larb", chickpeas ($.79), extra shallots ($.49); total: $13.66. **Spice level: Bold; added XX Hot Thai Chili **Includes papaya salad, carrots, and cucumbers. --Chewy noodles: Love the thick and chewy noodles! --Crispy tofu: I actually liked this better than the crispy chicken. The soft tofu had a light and delicate, crispy exterior that nicely soaked up the curry I dipped into. --Larb spice: Punchy citrusy, herbaceous flavor with a bit of funk. --Chickpeas and extra shallots: Add it for extra texture contrast. * Coco the Nutty Dip ($.60 x2) I'm glad I added this coconut milk and peanut based sauce. Not only was it delicious but it helped tone down the heat. Overall, I really enjoyed the BYO bowls from Basil the Bold and will def order again. They're serving up thoughtfully prepared, boldly-spiced Thai food with a modern spin. If you're a spicy food fanatic that enjoys the burn on BOTH ends, go bold!

Takeout: delicious BYO bowls and salads!

With how popular Thai food is around here, I'm shocked I haven't tried a BYO (build your own) concept with this cuisine until now. I had a bunch of Basil the Bold's menu items for pickup and loved all of them. Like with many other BYO spots, I was expecting the flavors to be dumbed down a bit, but I was pleasantly surprised at how bold everything was. It definitely lived up to the name. The heat level is customizable, from "no chili" up to "bold", and you can add on XX Hot Fried Chili too. I'm not vegan, but I enjoyed the vegan options as well. The crispy tofu in the vegan Larb the Laotian was my favorite of all the dishes. I also loved the crispy chicken with the tempura batter. The chewy noodles I had in my BYO bowl was nicely al dente. The side salads were super fresh, and the Tum the Thai (som tum papaya salad) is also vegan itself. You can get real deal fish sauce on the side. I picked up my order directly at the ghost kitchen location, and they are also on the delivery apps. The wait was a bit long, but it's new and just a one woman team right now. I didn't try any of the sandwiches yet (made with Acme Banh Mi Bread), that will be my lunch soon!

Hidden takeout spot inside a spacious Dogpatch building. Loved the larb tofu, the flavors, the crispiness. The broccoli was okay, a bit bitter, almost as if the seasoning was slightly burnt. The curry was very oily, but very delicious. Portions are on the small side, but the low prices reflect that. The person we picked up the food from was very friendly. The menu is limited, but if you're looking for some simple Thai food and flavors, some is better than nothing!

Wow!!! All I can say at the moment. That was the freshest salad I've had in a long time. I ordered the coconut peanut spinach salad with the hot Thai fried chili on the side. Get a side of this heat potion! Sooooo delicious!!! Everything was super fresh and the fried tofu was crispy and not soggy like most places. Dressing is more on the thicker side and I really enjoyed it!!

    Thai curry with Shrimps

Referral this catering from a friend. It did not disappoint me. We ordered catering for New Year at work. Food was good. My co-workers and I liked it a lot. We ordered tofu lard, chicken Lard, papaya salad, purple rice to go with the Thai curry with shrimps.. The tofu lard was crispy outside and soft inside, as well as the chicken Lard, crispy outside and juicy and tender inside. Both larbs has some level of spiciness and tangy, good combination. My favorite is the papaya salad. Tangy, crunchy, and salty all at once. I like the level of spiciness without the chili flakes (requested to put on the side). The Thai shrimp curry goes well with the purple rice. Since catering ordered for work, I really appreciated with the delivery and the utensils. It was very thoughtful of PanPan provided us with the utensils, serving spoons, and plates. It really make things much easier with ordering. Definitely will order again.

Clockwise from the top: The Crispy (with sauch) The Fusion Tum the Thai Taste the Tofu The Hearty. Middle: Curry the Crunchy
    Amanda L.

So much yum! I bought a variety of items to bring home to my family to try. 1. The Crispy Really great flavor! Coconutty, sweet, spicy, all the things. I like mashing everything together (sort of like a Chipotle burrito bowl) The only critique is there seemed to be a lot of carrots, so if you don't like carrots, beware! Or just add a note :) 2. The Hearty I thought this was similar to The Crispy, just with noodles (this comes with Red Curry too). I really like the noodles, they have that QQ/chewy/bouncy texture. I liked all the fresh ingredients that come with the bowl. 3. The Fusion I'd say this was the highlight!! I definitely would LOVE to come back again just to get this sandwich... and I'm nowhere near SF. Chickfila and Popeye's chicken sandwich have got a run for their money ;) The bread was just the right amount of crunchy and chewy, chicken was flavorful, and the larb mix was fresh and light. Maybe like a Thai take on the Vietnamese banh mi? Either way, definitely 10/10 would recommend :) 4. Tum the Thai (Som Tum) This was a really fresh and flavorful papaya salad! I really love the dressing that comes with it, even used some leftovers for a salad the next day! I can't put my finger on what makes it so special - sesame oil? fish sauce? magic?? Would order this again! 5. Taste the Tofu TBH - I don't eat tofu. BUT my family does and they all LOVED it and said they'd order this again too :) 6. Curry the Crunchy Ok, to be fair, I picked up the food late and had to drive 40 mins before trying the food, but was SO surprised that the chicken was STILL crispy (some soggy bits, but what're you going to do if you don't eat it in your car?) One of my favorite things from here. Good solid chicken, and I like how the batter isn't super thick and oily. I'm drooling thinking about it... OVERALL: Definitely will keep this place in mind the next time I'm visiting the city. That sandwich though... *drool*

This place is incredible. In a sea of that restaurants across the bay area, this's one stands out as a unique and original option. Definitely a must try. The bowls and fried tofu is excellent, butt it's all the little additions and condiments they provide that make it something special

I was intrigued by Plentiful Kitchen's borrowed motto, that food will be thy medicine, and liked the idea that I could pay up front now for the best food available, that someone else would put thought into and prepare, and that in the long run it could help me fight off disease for as long as possible. I like this food the best out of the services I've tried. I love that Inbal uses glassware and reuses it. I know this is healthier and better for the world, so it feels like it is consistent with the values and intention behind this kind of eating. I love having a fridge full of food on Wednesdays and that it just makes it easier to feed myself. It is a big investment financially for me - I am not rich so I do feel the sting of the cost - but I know it is keeping me nourished and I think that needs to be a priority for me. The testament to what she is doing becomes extra clear at my workplace. I often grab a dish on my way to work and whenever I'm eating it in the staff room, my colleagues who pass by take note of it and ask me about it. People remark that it looks beautiful, did I make it myself? Clearly so many people are hungry and hustling and ill-prepared most of the time; we live a fast paced life. So I have shared this information with many a co-worker, and I'm not sure any have tried the food yet (other than what I've shared with them from my own plates) but I think if you're on this page, reading this review, it is likely that this would make your life so much easier. And Inbal is a great cook. Not too salty, never uses dairy (which I love and will inevitably eat on my own, so this helps me keep more vegetables and non-dairy things in my stomach, which I think is good).

I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. Pro tip: get the cookie dough!!!!! And the chili. And the breakfast burritos. And the bake at home pizza ........ $20 credit Referral code: QWC3D2MJ
