I don't know what is happening on Yelp here. We had them cater at our office- bento box of paneer tikka, naan, pakora, basmati rice and raita. Paneer tikka had potato and cauliflower with a lot of garam masala and just 1-2 pieces of paneer, which is not how paneer tikka is made (coming from an Indian), raita was not there (just written on the board), rice was not basmati but some cheaper quality version, and naan was pita bread instead. 2 stars for pakora and freshness of the food. And it was expensive too compared to other options at the office cafeteria. read more

Alright, let's try this live updating thing again. Some work weeks are better than others, and this one sucked, but it's Friday! I love rice but try not to eat too much since it's mostly empty carbs. This week has been a tasty rice sort of week, so it seems only fitting to wrap it up with more rice! Overall, the food here was not too oily and felt healthier / firmer / not as rich as other Indian food than I've had. The pulao rice (basmati with peas and carrots) was tasty-- slightly salty, very fluffy (all the grains were separate), with a hint of maybe saffron? 3.5/5 The Naan was firmer / less flour-y than naan I've had in the past. There was a distinct sticky after-texture that was enjoyable. 3.25/5 Lamb saag (with spinach) had lean, tender lamb, not too lamb-y in flavor. 3.25/5 Butter chicken had firm pieces of mostly fat-free chicken. While the meat was firm, it was definitely cooked well (not too dry). Saag (spinach) paneer was a bit bland for my tastes, but on the flip side, there probably isn't 10 pounds of butter in here, which I can appreciate and live with. No, this food is just a no, darling. I picked up l Indian bento from the fridge section at Whole Foods and I honestly thought it's cooked by someone who's never eaten Indian food! Oh that turmeric... Excessive, overdose of turmeric just made the entire meal too bitter to eat. I am sorry for writing a bad review as I usually don't, but this meal was truly disappointing! I had to brush my teeth to get that excessive turmeric masala flavor off my mouth :-( The box said eggplant bharta and in reality, it was chopped eggplant cooked in the same gravy as the other vegetable in the box. May be ok for people who'll eat anything with turmeric in the name of "Indian" food, not for someone who knows their Indian food flavors and enjoys a well-prepared, well-researched recipe. Apparently the box comes with Biryani, anyone who wants to try Biryani please let this not be your first. It was not biryani from any angle!!! It was rice with excessive turmeric, peas and salt! April 20, 2022 Hi, I am writing this review about my experience communicating with the owner, ordering the food via doordash, food quality and my overall rating about Indian Bento in San Francisco Bay Area. I moved to SF Bay area/South city few months ago and have been craving for good Indian food. I was primarily missing quality butter chicken, chicken curry. I tried in my first order at Indian Bento with Bombay butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, Punjabi Saag paneer and Indian Pulao. Considering the quality of each dish, the price is super reasonable and quantity is amazing. I have to say, I enjoyed every single bite of the meal. The food menu on Doordash is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. Indian Bento is by far my absolute favorite Indian food corner in the Bay Area. I am really very delighted about the whole experience. I found the owner very polite, generous and honest person and I strongly feel that Indian Bento is a blessing for single parent professionals and can consider to rely for healthy food from Indian Bento that I found is nutritious, balanced with traditional indian spices and full in taste. Their motto is "From Slumdog to SF, serving organic Indian food with a street smart twist" - and it is truly fantastic. Don't get confused by their name - it's not Indian/Japanese fusion food. It's simply delicious and healthy Indian food served in bento boxes. Pashmina, the creator of Indian Bento, is not only an amazing chef, but such a lovely lady. Her story inspires me to one day go from mediocre cook to the next Giada, and maybe be lucky enough to have a husband like hers who encourages and supports my passion (and even designs and builds my website!). We tried an array of chicken and veggie dishes, which were all wonderful. The true stand out item though is her chicken roti roll. I could eat them all day long! She caters to groups of 5-200 throughout the city and Silicon Valley (she's located in SOMA), and personally makes and delivers the food. I'm pretty sure that Pashmina from Indian Bento just changed my life. You see, I've been trying to take the savvy advice of Michael Pollan to heart by only eating "real foods" as of late. One of my favorite quotes in his book The Omnivore's Dilemma is, "You shouldn't be fueling your body at the same place you fuel your car." In a crafty, sticky way, he's essentially advising against eating crappy junk food that you'd find on the shelves of just about any gas station or convenience store you'll find from here to Topeka, Kansas. It's clearly great advice since it's a no-brainer that you should be avoiding Cheez-Its and Pringles when you could be eating fresh fruits and veggies. Well, I feel like after noshing on the amazing, yet healthy eats from Indian Bento, I'm going to take on a similar approach to actual meals as well! How many times can you count being at an Indian food restaurant and mowing down your saag or chicken tikka masala, only to be put immediately into a food coma about 20 minutes later. You get a little sleepy, your vision begins to blur, you feel a shooting pain down your left arm, and a whole host of other maladies associated with eating pure crap from the kitchen of these hole-in-the-wall Indian/Pakistani spots. And by "crap," I mean the additives that make the dishes taste the way they do. Because by all means, I love the taste of that "crap" in the food (Shalimar is one of my favorite places in all of San Francisco), but I know I'm living on the edge by putting items in my body that really have no business being there. Well, with the operation at Indian Bento, that's a concern that needs not cross your conscious anytime during or after your meal. What Pashmina brings to the table is a perfect balance of authentic Indian fare (she grew up in Bombay), paired with a sort of California Cuisine that uses only fresh, organic, and locally sourced ingredients. She's just a peach, and if her amazing culinary delights don't hook you in, her bubbly, vivacious personality will. After moving here from Hong Kong (where she was based in her high-flying days) her husband encouraged her cooking, often complimenting her on how delicious her food was. And long story short, her unexplored talent became her career and now she's catering to lots of familiar tech companies in SF. Pashmina isn't just a nice and happy story, she's the real deal. Where most other Indian food fails in the "light" department, Indian Bento focuses on a healthy alternative to Slumdog food (that's street food). As one of the reigning Catering Monarchs of my office (sadly, a self-given title --- but believe me, I order a lot of food), I proclaim that Indian Bento really is as good as it gets. Thanks to Yelp, I found Pashmina and her hard working crew at Indian Bento and they sounded like a good fit for an event with 270 stomachs that I was charged with feeding. Every aspect of the catering planning and execution process could please any organized catering guru. I emailed Pashmina out of the blue, and she returned my email quicksmart with enthusiasm and excitement. Excited by the turnaround, I turned on my (somewhat tightly wound) catering requirements and she met them perfectly. To name a few: I have a large group of eager eaters, I have a very specific arrival time, I have multiple dietary restrictions I need to provide for, I have a strict budget, and man, I need to look good. Despite my stringent needs, Pashmina fulfilled and exceeded them all. It was like she high-fived me, said "consider it done, sister," and magicked a perfect meal out the air. The food was perfectly presented and extremely duper delicious. Try those kati rolls; the chicken is juicy, well-seasoned and full of interesting flavor. The chana masala is some kind of creamy yet savory epiphany that should be spread generously on the delectable naan. Not every experience is pleasant (to say the least), but I have nothing but great things to say about Indian Bento! The food was fantastic, and Pashmina went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience. Each dish was labeled with ingredients to avoid any food allergy disasters, and we had a great balance of meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. All the good stuff was there: Chicken Makhanwala in Buttery Sauce, Saag Paneer, Slumdog Bhelpuri (Puffed rice salad, garnished with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and spiced with tamarind and date chutneys), Chicken Kati Wrap in Roti-Paratha, flaky deserts, and many more items I'm forgetting in my food haze; even a Thumbs Up Indian Cola. Of the ones mentioned, people were really raving about the Slumdog Bhelpuri, which is a savory Indian Chaat that delights from a taste-texture point of view: sweet, savory, crunchy. If you'd not tried this (or any other Chaat for that matter), you owe it to yourself to go out of your way and get this. It is a singular, happy, tongue-tasting delight in a spoon. Not only does she arrive in a timely fashion, the presentation of her food is top notch, she's tough on her staff since she strives for perfection and her food is absolutely delicious. Plus, the fact that she brings more than enough food for whatever amount you've ordered. The flavor is what sets her food apart. Besides all the various spices, it's the love and passion she puts into her food that has my stomach doing cartwheels when I know she's coming. Whether you like your Indian food mild or spicy, have an assortment of dietary restrictions or whatever the case, Pashmina can whip something up that's going to be crazy good. My faves are the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Kati rolls, Bombay Butter Chicken, Kadai Lamb, all her curries, Pulao rice, naan, so pretty much everything. I don't care for the little red things in salads, but I even eat her tomato and cucumber salad. I know, what? That by itself is an amazing accomplishment. Pashmina is such a sweetheart! Sometimes you can see the spark in a business owner's eye who puts her heart and soul into their business and genuinely wants to put out something that's solid. I hesitantly emailed her (and I say "hesitantly" because who knows where emails go sometime?) and she responded to me pretty promptly. Apparently she already had two lunches to deliver on the same day but could accommodate me at either 11am or 1pm. I decided to go for it because Indian bentos just sound delicious. Even though you can't process your payment transaction through the website, you can submit the order of exactly what you want. Among many choices, I chose four different wraps with four different sides. For me, I ended up tasting the Bento #230: Organic Chicken Kati Wrap in Roti-Paratha Organic Vegetable Tikka Masala The packaging is comprised of sturdy plastic boxes with compostable utensils. Plus. When I opened it up, the wrap was so tiny! It was like a mini breakfast burrito from McDonald's. But little do you know, it was packed with meat and after you finish the sides, you will be stuffed. In particular, my wrap dipped in the yogurt sauce and my side of masala had a nice sweetness to it. Good flavors all around. I enjoyed it! Pashmina recommended that for parties of over 10, it's better to just order the food family style so there are more options. Thanks to Indian Bento, I now have a new appreciation and like for Indian food! Honestly, I didn't really care for it before. But after ordering Indian Bento for the first time for a work lunch, my mind has been changed. My boss' wife found Indian Bento here on Yelp, and so we decided to give it a try. My boss decided last minute late on Friday that he wanted a lunch for our team on Monday afternoon...I rushed to contact Pashmina and she said it wouldn't be a problem to cater for 40 people with the minimal notice. Everything was handled professionally and organized. The delivery and setup of the food was smooth and I didn't have to worry about a thing (she even arrived early!). All of the food was labeled. AND THE FOOD?! DELICIOUS!! Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Kati Rolls, Veggie Kati Rolls, Slumdog Bhelpuri, Rice and Naan. I loved everything!! And the food was plentiful- we had leftovers even with my co-workers helping themselves to seconds and thirds. This is such a fabulous alternative to the typical catered sandwich buffet! I've had the vindaloo, tikka masala, palak paneer, and a couple other things - all are great (and all spicy!). The naan was wonderful and chewy, just how I like it. And most surprising was the bhelpuri - a puffed rice salad in the 'street food' section of the menu. I'd read the reviews on Yelp and was intrigued, so I contacted Pashmina and was able to pick up a bento box for lunch. She was very sweet and helpful, and I absolutely appreciated her accomodating me last minute. I thought if I liked what she gave me this could be a new option for office lunches and catering...Now on to the food! In addition to the bento box, I got one potato samosa, and that was the BEST thing I had...delicious! When I spoke to her she promised chicken tikka masala, so I was disappointed to see she had given me butter chicken instead. The chicken was very tender, but the taste was just okay. This came with rice (standard) and 1/2 of her famous chicken kati (roti) roll. I was super excited to try the roll, but was severely disappointed. It tasted exactly like the cheap green Mexican burritos I've tried in the past, and let me tell you that was not good. I also got a green salad (surprisingly good!) and she threw in a little ball of dessert for free (this last I didn't eat, as it was just a bit odd for me). Like I said, she couldn't have been nicer. Indian Bento has been catering our office for about a year now and I have to say - their food is always impeccable. From the presentation, to the cleanliness of the delivery, to the taste, it's hands down the best!. Pashmina, the owner is so meticulous and on the money with her recommendations that I haven't had any complaints. It is not often that you find a place that cares about the customer as much as she does. She is heaven sent. I told her the other day that I am a lactose intolerant and she sent me a mini bento just for me with lactose free Indian goodness - in was the best Okra Masala I have ever had that I asked her to deliver that to my team for our next lunch catering. She is truly an angel and her food is equally as heavenly. If I had my way, I would have her cater our lunches everyday!!! read more

Sooooo good! The flavors are very delicious and very unique. Pashmina the owner is also so very nice and accommodating. I've ordered catering from Indian Bento for my work and it has been absolutely fabulous. I've had such bad experiences with late deliveries and shoddy customer service from other Indian caterers and I am THRILLED I found Indian Bento! The roti wraps are DELISH!!! One roti wrap is very filling, but because they are so incredibly good (both the chicken and the veggie) you want another and another. I had the pleasure of meeting Pashmina today when she and one of her staff came to set up for a catering event at the corporation I work for in San Mateo. From our first phone conversation to meeting her in person, I couldn't have had a better experience with the customer service at Indian Bento. Pashmina was informative, helpful, very kind and patient as she crafted a menu to tailor to the needs of our 200+ staff. The food was EXCEPTIONAL. From the presentation to the taste and everything in between, every single person was impressed and that's no easy task! After lunch I received emails from our staff jokingly saying they vote that Indian Bento be our catered lunch EVERY week :) We had one individual with a severe nut allergy, and although there were plenty of dishes without nuts, Pashmina took the extra care to pack an individually wrapped meal for her. She was blown away by Pashmina's organic thoughtfulness. They arrived early, had the whole lunch set up in less than 30 minutes, and had everything labeled with ingredients and allergy restrictions for each dish. Healthy organic Indian food that tastes great! Before I tasted an Indian Bento Boxes I didn't particularly like Indian food. After Indian Bento Boxes catered by Pashmina, I really love it. Not only are the flavors great, but you feel good without that heavy bloated feeling. But the real appeal is the great taste. I started eating Pashmina's Indian Bento Boxes every Thursday when our office cafeteria started offering her food one day a week. Lunch traffic increased in response to the Indian Bento Boxes to the point that they frequently ran out of food by 1:30 on Thursdays. I began greeting my co-workers on Thursdays by saying, "Do you know why it's a good day? Because its Indian Bento box day!" This food literally cheers you up because it is so flavorful and healthy. There are a variety of flavors, spices and textures that make the meal an adventure into Indian cuisine that never disappoints. Even if you haven't been a big fan of Indian food up until this point, this could change your mind. Any healthy food lover will be grateful for this special treat, for lunch or dinner. read more
