I ordered Pepito's Paletas for a work event this week and they did a wonderful job. The paletas were amazing, price was reasonable and it was very convenient to pick up - I live in the neighborhood and was able to pick up the basket that was full of dry ice and stayed very cold. The basket stays frozen for 8 hours so you don't need a freezer. (Note, the pops are not individually frozen!) The packaging and presentation was far beyond my expectations. I liked that you got an attractive label for each flavor of popsicle that had the ingredients, so anyone with allergies or dietary restrictions would know exactly what was in them. Super easy way to have a great work event and I would definitely work with them again! My favorite was the caramelized banana pop (I ordered a batch of "Most Popular" and got kiwi, mango, strawberries and cream, and banana). Note about the catering process, they work with a company called EZCater and I got a phone call from EZCater at 6:30 a.m. on the day of my order pickup which was way too early, but I understand that they were trying to make sure everything went smoothly. The best popsicles I've ever had!!! Simple ingredients. Amazing taste. Husband and I are self proclaimed ice cream connoisseur. We frequent many ice cream establishments in the bay area. I had a $15 voucher and just asked them to send whatever they have. I got 24 popsicles. 6 each of 4 flavors: Honey fresh Mango, Mexican Abuelita Chocolate, Caramelized Fried Banana, and 100%Organic Raspberry Vegan. Included are nicely presented ingredient list. They have pretty good paletas. Unfortunately, they only do catering, so I probably wouldn't be having their paletas again any time soon. They catered for a work event, so I don't know anything about the catering process. The owner and the lady who worked with her that day seemed nice, though. I tried two flavors, passionfruit and kiwi. They're both tart flavors, but the tart aftertaste of the paletas wasn't too great. There's a slight tart and bitter aftertaste. Also, I think it's a bit watered down. They have a large variety of flavors, which is really nice. A plus is that they definitely use fresh fruits, you can taste it! read more

I ordered Pepito's Paletas for my company's summer BBQ and they were a hit! Communication with "Fiesta Coordinator" Angie was a breeze and she helped with ordering and answering all of my questions via email. With a 50 count box, you can choose up to 3 flavors. I went with Agave Honey Chunky Mango (vegan), Strawberries & Cream and Abuelita's Mexican Hot Chocolate. For me, the Mexican Hot Chocolate was on hiiiit and if we hadn't been on a shortage of flavors, I would've grabbed a second one for myself. However, I didn't want to be THAT girl, so I let others get in on the flavor. The Strawberries & Cream was good too, but it's slightly less sweet than the Hot Chocolate and since I had the sweeter of the two first, the strawberry seemed bland. The Mango was definitely my least favorite. It was the most natural tasting and less "rich" of the flavors. Probably because it wasn't a cream one. It did come with a small bag of tajin though which I somehow misplaced so I wasn't able to put it on my paletas to try. But for selfish reasons, I may just order more cream based flavors the next time around. Delivery was on time and the paletas stayed frozen in their ice box (additional $25/box) without needing to be put in the fridge/freezer. Pepito's bright and cheerful hole in the wall is chock full of goodies: breakfast tortas, regular tortas, hot dogs, Mexican coffee drinks, smoothies, juices, milkshakes, chocolate dipped bananas, paletas, snow cones, made on the premises Mexican ice cream, and Mexican candy. There isn't much spare space inside but they've managed to squeeze in some frog toys (for display only, they belong to Pepito). When I see a case full of ice cream, I tend to look in to see what looks good. The flavors aren't labeled though - they're written up on the chalkboard above. I counted 14 flavors - some were traditional like vanilla and rum raisin but they also had sweet corn, sweet potato, mamey (a Mexican melon), strawberry pinenut, Mexican chocolate, rose, watermelon, etc. Ask for samples. I get the sense that the firmness depends on how long ago the ice cream was made. I tried the sweet potato ice cream which she made that morning and it was much softer than the Mexican chocolate that was made the day before. I settled for a scoop of Mexican chocolate ($2.50 for 1 scoop, $4.25 for 2 - the mamey flavor is more expensive). It was softer, fluffier and airier than I'm used to. Mexican chocolate has a sharper taste but the overall ice cream was not intensely flavored. I'd give the ice cream three stars (sorry Pepito). The paletas are $2 and I couldn't tell what the flavors were (you have to ask and I felt too lazy to ask since I had just asked about the ice cream flavors). Snow cones are just $1 right now (I couldn't tell what the flavors were either) and the Pepito size scoop of ice cream is $1. I also had a chicken torta ($6.75) which was very good though the marinated chicken was quite dry. The torta, made with a soft sweet roll was stuffed with generous amounts of chicken (big skinless strips), crispy lettuce, sautéed onions (yum), pickled jalapenos, tomatoes, avocado, and Mexican soft cheese (mild, white). Not too saucy, quite flavorful. They had other types including a bacon torta, honey ham, breaded chicken, etc. There isn't much room to sit inside (1 table, a couple of stools) or outside (a few chairs). It ain't Mitchell's....but it ain't bad either. There's a lot of good restaurants in this part of South City on Grand Avenue so we decided to walk around and explore the area. After eating a wonderful meal, we were in the mood for some dessert so how fortuitous it was that we stumbled upon this place. They have logo of a frog wearing a sombrero as their mascot. Hmm...a frog selling ice cream. The guy working the counter was cool and helpful, but was a bit overbearing...more along the lines of patronizing. You see, we were wearing our Giants gear but the guy clearly didn't know what he was talking about. We let it slide, and come to find out it was his first week working there so we gave him a pass. However, he did recommend the Mexican Chocolate and it was pretty good. It was grainy (in a good way) and had a unique flavor. It wasn't overpowering but it did leave a distinct aftertaste that lingered in your mouth. My kids had the strawberry and plain ole vanilla. I know...very adventurous. The color of this coconut ice cream wasn't even white, it was more like a deep cream bordering a bit of yellow, even. It had bits of sweet coconut throughout, enough to keep your taste buds at work. Went here for the special yelp discount which was awesome. Our total was $9 ($8 for ice cream and $1 for 2 tamarind candies) Added some pictures that i took of the store. Gloria was really nice she let me wear the sombrero and also took a picture with me. The shop was a bit small it fits 6 people inside comfortably but anymore is overcrowding. I'm a vegan and eating organic and no sugar is a true challenge at times. To finally find popsicles, dessert that was sugar free was amazing. Peach and mango are my favorite. After having lunch at Mom's Tofu House, then walking to the Post Office around the corner, we were walking back to the car and my daughter wanted ice cream. I've been wanting to try this place and this was our chance. We went for pepito sized cones (read mini cones), for $1 a pop. My daughter of course wanted the strawberry. Anything pink with her. She was sold. I took a little taste, whatever I could get from her and it was okay. I also had a pepito cone of the mango. I do believe there wasn't any cream in there, more like a sorbet. After having lunch at Ben Tre I was stuffed, but one is never too full for sorbet. I tired a sample of the Granola Ice Cream and it was f-ing amazing, but since the boyfriend was eating sorbet, I didn't want to be the only fatty. The mango sorbet was delicious. Homemade ice cream is always a plus in my book. I am disappointed that I see a few yelpers have mentioned that POF is known for their Sweet Corn ice cream since that is my favorite type of ice cream en todo el mundo! I had to try this place for the funny name, what appears to be a Babelfish translation of Frog Pond. I found the ice cream to have a thick dough-like chewiness to it. And the heavy sweetness drowned out subtleties of flavor. The flavors I tried were strawberry, rum raisin, corn and chocolate. The chocolate had an unappealing cinnamon signature to it. Scoops were generous even for my small (pepito) scoops at $1 each. Those accustomed to fro-yo, frozen custard, and gelato will find the product here a little heavy and old-fashioned. read more

Came in yesterday with my mom and sis.. Cute place with frogs everywhere, a thumbs up from my Mom since she collects frogs! That night, however, there were no more pecan popsicles, but the lady working there kindly suggested a pecan ice cream cone, which she then dipped in chocolate. The ice cream itself I thought was just okay, kind of icy and such, not so much creamy - but then again it was close to midnight when I went . Cool place to grab a scoop of ice cream to go after having lunch off of Grand Ave. Only having maybe a seat or two inside, Puddle is tiny but easily spottable from the Mexican ice cream cart right out in front. Ordered up a two scooper of their most popular flavors, pine nut and sweet corn in a cup ($4.50). Their employee said that their ice cream is freshly made every week. It had a Dreyer's ice cream like consistency, a little bit thick and not as icy. Not as smooth and creamy as a gelato or Haagan daaz but still pretty good. The pine nut flavor was interesting. It was pink of all colors and had these pine nut pieces that gave it a little earthy bite. It even had a hint of tree sap flavor. The sweet corn was the tastier of the two imo. I'm not a big fan of super sweet ice creams like rocky road so I'm happy that this one had a subtle flavor to it. Solid 3.5 stars. read more

Authentic and Fresh... These are the first two words that come to mind when I take a taste of this stuff. I recently tried a few flavors at a friend's holiday party. Fried Banana, Sweet Potato, and even a Tequila based ice cream were all on the menu and all were sure darn tasty. My favorite was the Fried Bananas (I need this in my life soon ASAP), followed by the Tequila and Sweet Potatoes. I never even know they made Tequila ice cream but def was feeling the taste and light hints on my palate. Next time I host a party I think I'll reach out to this business. My friend said they cater to most flavors/ideas so I think this will be a nice treat for my guests, you know, something uniquely delicious. I even heard I can scoop some flavors up at Whole Foods so I'll be looking for that if I get an itch prior.. All around very very tasty. read more

I saw Puddle of the Frogs on tv, and found out it was located in Grand Ave, which is near by my place. So after bringing our grandma to dinner, me, the parents, my sister, and her bf walk over here to try the ice cream. They have a good little variety of fresh home made ice cream made with fresh ingredients. I tried the mexican chocolate one, and it was yum yum yum. My grandma had the strawberry and that one was good. It actually tasted like strawberry, not the tutti fruity sugarcoated strawberry flavor, but it was really fresh you can taste the nature of the cold dessert. My sister tried the pecan. I give pepitos a five star because of the fresh home made ice creams, and I recommend people to try it for something different because there are not that many fresh ice cream places around. Pepito is my new BFF! Finally came here after seeing it featured on Eye on the Bay (thanks Liam). Corn ice cream? Sounds a little strange, but being a lover of corn, had to give it a try. Had to share with the husband since we had just had BiRite less than 12 hours before then ;). It was so good we bought a HALF GALLON!!! So much for sharing, now we have an entire bucket to share, hahaha. Thanks to Andreas for hand packing our half gallon of goodness. We suggest the owner get him a flat paddle scoop to make it easier on the forearms and wrist because we will be back soon when our bucket of corny deliciousness is licked clean. Every time I drop by, I always try to get a variety of Popsicles for everyone so that I can taste their else's flavors. So this is how the experience went: After paying the meter right in front and walking in, I asked if they took credit card/atm and nope, CASH ONLY, WTH, okay, so I get back in my car to find the closest ATM and of course drive around, come back and pay the meter again. I walk in and see people walking out with large ice creams, okay so I notice that they only had 4 ice cream flavors and like 8-10 Popsicles. WTH, I thought this was an Ice Cream place and with only 4 Flavors around noon. Come on, flavors were plain too, Strawberry, Vanilla, Mango and some pecan ice cream. Anyway, so I order a scoop not knowing what a scoop would be, $2.50 for one scoop and were not talking a big scoop either, it fit in like a kiddy cup, I would guess it was like half of a Thrifty Scooper, think tiny water cup. I asked about food, she said no food, They only have ice cream and smoothies, WTH not what others have reviewed or the menu on the website.
