You walk in and there's a clothing store on one side and black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared and escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, and into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy. The space is tiny--maybe 6-8 seats at the bar and a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.

I'm a fan of cocktail bars, and after reading up on this spot I made it my intention to check it out. It just so happened that it was a short walk from my hotel, so we decided to check it out one night before heading to dinner. The Cloakroom is a speakeasy, nestled behind a hidden door in a men's clothing shop. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. Service was great; due to the setup, each patron is given extra attention which really highlighted the experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Cloakroom Bar. This was definitely a unique experience with excellent curated drinks. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.

The restaurant was pretty empty at that time, I prefer eating early since I dislike crowds and enjoy a more quiet atmosphere. If you don't have a reservation you can easily find a table before 6PM. We were greeted right away, service was prompt and friendly. Our group tried two types of appetizers, the fried calamari and kentucky style fried chicken. Both were delicious, fresh, left us wanting more. I found the portion was pretty small compared to the price, for $19 the calamari was just enough for 2 people, not meant to share with a whole table unless you only get 1 or 2 bites each. Our main meals were 3 different types of steak, one opted for a large rib eye, a new york strip and filet mignon, and one person had the salmon. We upgraded sides to the cheesy mashed potatoes and sweet potato fries. In all we were very impressed with the food, the flavor, cook and portions for the main meals were excellent. Steaks were cooked to perfection and well seasoned - this was entirely different compared to our last experience at the Lucille's in Dix 30. The servers took time to refill our water and clean the tables in between meals, change our cultery too. I could tell there was a particular attention to us. I think it makes a huge difference when you are basically the only table in the restaurant at that time. This a great place to enjoy quality food if you like seafood or steak in particular - the atmosphere is modern, there's lots of place to sit both indoor or outdoors and the service was top notch. I would come back for a special occasion, I felt very satisfied with the whole experience.

There is on bathroom on the main floor by the pizza oven and more downstairs. The waiters and waitresses were friendly, but I think we needed more of them, or for them to come by more often since we had 30 people and we were constantly in need of water and soda refills. They brought warm rolls to the tables which were divine. I love when an Italian restaurant has good bread and even better when they are served warm. There was a preset menu so I ordered the salmon which came in a creamy lemon sauce with a side of pasta with butter and parmesan. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious (I ended up putting the sauce on the pasta). It was a nice sized portion and I really enjoyed the dish. I would go back.

When we got there the staff seemed to be scurrying around and distracted so we had to wait a few minutes before checking the reservations for the evening. We were then taken to a long table near the far end. It felt somewhat out of the way so we asked if there was anything closer to the front. We were then moved to the front of the same long table (cushioned back seat). It was a better location but we couldn't figure out why the staff was running around and acting as though they were expecting the Prime Minister to walk in. There was a birthday party going on but they didn't necessitate everyone's time. There were tables by the window that were open and remained that way until we were finished our meal, which was just after 7:00pm. It started getting busy then. We shared a carafe of House Red from a lovely & attentive server named Véronique and then we each ordered a pizza from their huge selection. I had the delicious Mediterranean, which had fresh tomatoes, spinach, onions, fresh herbs, garlic and feta cheese and my niece had the Vieux Four (with smoked meat) pizza which she really enjoyed. We were honoured when the owner, M. Manago himself, stopped by our table to say hello. Even though the food was good, I don't think I'd go back to this place next time I'm in town, unless I'm with a dignitary or the Prime Minister.
