The water temperature was completely broken; showering meant dealing with unpredictable freezing and boiling water, and the tap water was dangerously hot even on the coldest setting. Add in a horrendous breakfast, a freezing pool, and no hot tub, and it's simply not worth the money. I won't be back.

While the cabins are smaller, they now have; -Real flushing toilets -Air conditioning -Countertop two-burner induction stovetops Our stay was good but visitors should know that the point of the Getaway is to strip vacation down to it's bare minimum. No wifi, no cellular coverage, limited electricity and appliances. Limited retail shops and restaurants in the area (for 20 miles or more). Not much to do in the area other than hiking. Make sure you are willing to disconnect for your entire stay and you will have a good/relaxing time. The prices can get a bit silly considering what the experience is. Prices can get above $250; compare this to under $100 for a hotel with many more amenities, especially in this area. The prices also seem to fluctuate all over the place, sort of like Uber surge pricing. I booked early in the year and found the prices changed over the next few months depending on demand and occupancy. Pro tips: -Check in is 3PM and check out is 11 AM -They will text you with your cabin name and the code to open the door just before your check in time. Since the area has no cellular coverage, you may miss that text if you come in early. Make sure you're in an area with cellular coverage before you check in. -Yes, you can Uber here but you are going to be stuck here for your entire stay unless you come with a car. -They have some snacks available but you really need to bring your own food -The units have mini fridges but there's no freezer (at least in the unit I stayed in) -There are a lot more units on this ex-camground than I remember seeing in the Eastern Catskills when we stayed 5 years ago. There's maybe 30 units here -There's really only enough room to park one car but you could probably find a spot elsewhere on site to put a 2nd car if your party arrives in 2 cars. -There are two types of cabins; one queen bed or two queen beds. If there's 2nd queen bed, it's on a loft above the main queen bed. The loft is best for kids. Older people will have trouble getting up the stairs -My wife pointed out there's no hairdryer in the cabin (but you can bring one, I don't know if it will pop a breaker on the limited power available in the cabin) -If you are looking for the cooking oil, it's in the small cup with the sugar packets! It looks like coffee in a foil pack, but it's oil! We didn't realize this until our last day... -There is a 'landline' phone in each unit, it looks like a Princesss trimline touchtone phone. They don't put the phone number on it but you can call someone with caller ID and get the number- then you can call the cabin directly. -Each unit has a rustic outdoor grill. I brought firewood but they have extremely reasonably priced dry wood on site for you to use. Keep in mind it will take about 20 minutes to get to a point where you can cook food over the wood. -Each unit has a picnic bench and some Adirondack chairs for sitting around the campfire/BBQ -The unit also has a rechargeable camping lantern for sitting outside at night. -Don't be a jerk. There's a little metal plate on the picnic table with text that says not to play loud music or leave a fire unattended or else they will charge you $100 (donated to local conservation charities). -Check out the site map before you go. Your phone won't work when you get there so you need to know which roads are one way only and how to get in/out of the complex and find your cabin. -The roads are gravel and can be negotiated with a car but you'd be better off in an SUV. The average Honda or Toyota could do it fine (maybe not so much in winter) but don't bring your vette or other low clearance car.

Also, there's no cell phone service which helps there. Every campsite has a fireplace (with a grill over it) to make a campfire and cook if you want to. There's a big, pretty lake within walking distance that you can take a hike around. There's a "beach" on one side with some sand over the dirt that you can go swim at if it's warm enough. You can rent canoes or bring kayaks. There's a great big playground with swings and some fun slides and other things in the middle of the campsites by the bathrooms. That all combines to have made this place a lot of fun for us and two other families to get together and do a combined getaway the last two years. It's one of the most fun trips we do each year as a family. The only possible downsides are: 1. The rangers are pretty serious about noise after hours. Even though we were the parents with sleeping kids that might be woken, up we got asked to keep it quieter when quiet time hit. Still, maybe that's missed blessing for those of us who do have kids that we need to sleep. 2. The only showers are a long-ish walk or drive down to the main building by the beach. Usually, we go for little enough time that we just don't worry about it though. Definitely a great spot to go for a long weekend with kids.

Little Pond is a little gem in my opinion. We stayed at site #7 which is on a dead end road overlooking a beautiful field where we saw deer everyday. The flush (yes flush) bathrooms are a short walk away as well as potable water. Also, Little Pond is an easy walk as well. The bathrooms by Little Pond have showers as well with hot water. They are decent for a camping shower. What I liked was the ADA/Handicapped trail that went around the lake. it was a mile so my friends and I would walk it a few times a day. I am recovering from ACL surgery so I couldn't hike any of the other loops they offered. They were very vigilant about food being left out, but if anyone has ever camped before you know that's the norm. They were a bit extreme with what could be left out. For example you cannot leave out dish detergent, washing bins, citronella candles, beverage containers etc. I would highly recommend this location !

The cabins are basically from 1784 and in rough shape. I'm all for a vintage setting, but leaks and the smell like something died is a bit over the top. 3.The guy in charge who tramples around like your presence is bothering him, completely lacks manners and acts like you and your family aren't even there. We didn't expect them to be overly social but at least acknowledge when someone waves or says hello. 4. This is not the establishment you want to visit if your expecting hot water with your showers. So yes it costs 25cents for cold showers. 5.I blame myself partly because I had an idea what we were in for right after the gate closed and we checked in. But you live and learn and this is one place that will never have to worry about getting our business again.

We used to live up the road from you on Rock Lake Dr and for about 12 years we did an airbnb with our carriage house and would never think of making our guests clean up and take away their garbage and do the laundry. WE also only charged 45.00 for cleaning a 3 bedroom private home. You on the other hand expect us to pay 185.00 cleaning fee and you want us to do the laundry, clean the dishes, vacuum he house, clean the kitchen, take all the garbage with us in our car and if we leave it you charge an enormous removal of garbage for 25.00 a bag. We had to clean the house when we got there, the kitchen was dirty and the bathrooms were not cleaned in a while, dusty and spider webs in the showers. There were dead bugs that we had to clean up also. Most of the light bulbs in the house do not work and I do know that you are aware of it due to other feedback about this issue. We had to go out and spend 40.00 for air fresheners because the whole house smelt very musty. We paid for a 4 bedroom log cabin with a washer and dryer. We were not able to use that floor at all due to the smell of mold. We did though wash all the linens and towels as required and cleaned a second time before we left. In your add it states that we are to receive incidentials at a value of 125.00 but instead there was used hand soap and a broken shampoo dispenser hanging off the wall. The one upstairs one in the shower was disguistingly filthy. I took many pictures upon my arrival of all the broken and dirty stuff in the cabin. The railing on one side of the deck stairs to go into the cabin is missing and I fell in the dark thinking there was a railing. Luckily I did not get hurt. I fell in the weeds and got my clothes dirty. I was not happy about that. The outside of the property is very unkept and nothing like your pictures. There is no exhaust fan over the stove for cooking. The front left burner does not work and gas escapes when you turn on which is a saftey hazard and the stove was filthy as well as the griddle which is really gross and should be thrown out. I am still waiting for my 100.00 deposit returned, plus 100.00 back for having to clean the cabin. I also want 25% of my rental fee returned due to not being able to use the downstairs due to mold and overall sloppy and unkept appearance. I am waiting upon your response before I leave feedback. I was originally planning to come back again in August or September but as it stands now, we don't see that happening. We come back up to Lakewood at least 4 times a year for about 5 days each time to visit our son. We sold our home on Rock Lake Dr last year and we were hoping to stay at your place for our visits.
