The Kaatskeller - The White Album Pizza

On our Sunday in the Catskills we wanted to "wander" around and pick a lunch or dinner place when…read morewe see it. To be fair we'd read about Kaatskeller and the reviews as well as their menu, so it was on our radar. Ordered two pizzas, which are all 12 inches, so probably defined as personal size, but easily shared by two people. In our case we got two different pies. First up was the smoked trout appetizer that came with house made pita bread straight from the oven. The trout was really good, and the combination with harissa (which you can add or not as you prefer) really worked incredibly well. We sat at the outdoor bar and enjoyed some nice conversation with the bartenders Reuben and Brandon who were incredibly nice. We ate on a late Sunday afternoon, so the crowd was smaller than a prime Friday or Saturday, so there was no issue with waiting for our entree pizzas. Once the 'zas arrived, the crust was excellent - it was clearly fermented for multiple days and had wonderful flavor on it's own. It was on the thin side, but not cracker. I chose the "My Italian Friend" which featured Prosciutto, garlic, onion, parmesan, tomato, and basil. It was fantastic - cooked perfectly, close to that Neapolitan style, but yet still seeming to channel a good NYC pie. Hard to explain but it worked well. The other was the White Album pizza (shoutout Beatles reference) which featured ramp pesto. We both felt that this wasn't as good as it should be (or, we had higher expectations for ramps than they delivered). The fundamentals of the pizza were still solid. Fun cocktails, decent beer selection, staff was attentive and interested, and pizza was broadly really good. Highly reccomend!

Checking in was simple and straightforward. Employees are friendly, hard working, professional, helpful, and kind. Our room was wonderful. There was a kitchen, large table, big bathroom, comfy beds, a couch that turns into a bed, 2 large TV's, study table, etc. It was perfect! They did a great job keeping our room clean. Beds are comfortable and we all got plenty of rest. When we needed extra towels, blankets, and toilet paper, employees did an excellent job providing that for us. Some property amenities include: The Residence Bar, Fitness Center, Indoor Swimming Pool, Dry Cleaning Service, Free Hot Breakfast, Convenience Store, Free Wifi, and a Laundry Room. Checking out was also simple and straightforward. This is a wonderful hotel, that is not too far from The LEGOLAND New York Theme Park. I'm so glad we got chance to visit. Prices are reasonable and we had a great experience staying here. Highly recommend!

My husband and I traveled from Oregon to get married at The Roxbury Barn. While looking for a…read morewedding venue that would be easy for our family and friends to travel to, the Barn came up in our searches. Now, you may think that it would be insanely difficult to plan a wedding from the opposite side of the country, but Casper is so organized it was stress-free. He is very quick to respond to e-mail correspondence and very thorough on phone conversations. There is so much that goes into these days, but the barn truly has it down to a science. With easy to follow brochures and forms, the planning went so very smoothly. We wanted a very intimate celebration, so we chose a weekday package. It was so affordable and very inclusive, we basically had to sign and choose food and a few decor options. It may sound like we had a simple day, but it was truly anything but. Kim and Kelly designed the most beautiful floral arrangements for the day - I am still shocked at how perfect they were. The entire staff at the barn moved like a well-oiled machine. The Captains House, The Hilltop Pavilion, The Pine Grove, and The Barn are out of a fairy tale. I can't even begin to describe how perfect and beautiful our day was. When I relive the day in my head, I wouldn't/couldn't ask for anything more from The Roxbury Barn and Estate. What a wonderful venue with the greatest staff. I'd choose this venue 1,000x over.

She wanted a very small immediate family and close friends only wedding and we could not be any happier with her choice for the venue. The Roxbury Barn setting, staff, and food were exceptional! We only had a total of 15 attendees, including the bride and groom. The mountain and luxurious green setting, clear crisp air and forest was a perfect setting for the wedding ceremony. The barn and outdoor area was extremely comfortable for the reception. Every staff member was attentive and very friendly. The food was delicious. Casper (the owner) and Kim (wedding coordinator) made sure that each guest was well taken care of. Our daughter raved about her experience planning the wedding and said that everything exceeded her expectations! We have never seen our daughter happier and so stress free. Thank you to all at Roxbury Barn & Estate that made this a very memorable occasion.

It's also worth noting that expecting a good pescatarian experience at a barbecue joint is more of a me problem. In terms of the space, it had a laid back feel. Not too fancy. Just a bar, with an outdoor patio out back. Lot's of wood surfaces. A good amount of space. It felt comfortable. In terms of the staff, they were generally very attentive. Not fine dining level, but about what you would expect at a neighborhood bar. They did the job and conversed with various customers. In terms of food, everything was fine. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos with a side salad. The side salad was fine. Fresh ingredients. Well presented. The tacos were clearly presented with care, but it felt like they need a little more flavor. Maybe more slaw or some hot sauce on the side. They felt a little meh, even if the presentation was nice. All told, this is a perfectly reasonable place to grab dinner and a beer. It's comfortable. It's open late.
