I am not sure how to approach this review. I came here as a final stop on our way back to our River Cruise ship. They are very proud of this enormous store / restaurant / hotel and are happy to show it off. The place was originally built to be a concert venue / stadium for their basketball team. I am copying this part of the review from one I read and want to give credit to the author, Crystal G. "Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro shops, was considering buying the venue. Not sure what to do. He made a wager with his friend while fishing . If I catch a fish over 30 pounds I will buy the venue. Later that day he caught a fish more than 30 pounds. The deal was 'on' and the rest is as they say...history!" The place is just magnificent. The showpiece is the giant elevator that goes to the top. There is a cost for this... i12 for each adult. At the top of the pyramid is a breathtaking look out, spectacular restaurants and lodge. There are spectacular views of the Mississippi River, and all of Memphis. I walked around the giant store making sure I did not get lost and could get back to the bus. Along the way I stopped by the largest selection of fishing poles and reals I ever saw. The nice gentleman working the area showed some off and explained the benefits of them. It's one collection of items after another, candy, signs, clothing, boats, the list goes on and on... This place was amazing. I was happy to learn that they are building one close by me on Long Island. Should be a fun place to spend some time. If I make it back I would love to stay in the hotel. Everything in one place. Amazing shopping, restaurants, entertainment and lodging, right in the heart of 'everything Memphis.' Wow, this was an amazing place to visit while in Memphis, Tennessee. This is a huge pyramid and it has all kinds of outdoor merchandise, activity, vehicles, and all things "outdoorsmen", in this large pyramid. There's even a restaurant inside of this place. You can go to the top of this huge pyramid and actually have a view of all of Memphis, and I understand other places like Arkansas, Texas, etc. There was a super long line to get the elevators to go upstairs. When you're walking up to the place, you can't help but notice that the security is definitely looking at you and watching anybody who comes in and out. It was really strange also to see a Memphis PD officer parked in the front , and inside she was walking out with an empty wheelchair. That was very strange. Anyway, when you come in, it's like you're in a huge outdoor world, then you see a wood cabin interior in the entrance. So, there are all kinds of great things in the lobby to look at: all equipment for fishing and whatever you do outdoors all around the place. They even have taxidermy of animals of all kinds on display here. They even have a lodge that you can stay in, it's a hotel. I was excited to see the live alligators, fish, ponds, waterfalls, palm, streams, etc., all around this big store. They even have a little arcade where you can practice shooting targets, and there were a lot of little kids in their parents do that. So many children were climbing on ATVs and sitting on them and I thought it was really funny. This is like a world for any and everything outdoors, campaign, fishing, and all terrain affiliated activities. When you go to the registers, they have snacks and you can buy snacks for anything here. It's definitely worth checking out. It's definitely a tourist attraction at this location. read more

Talk about an establishment that makes a statement both external and internal. You need to check out this location it is so cool. There are even live fish and alligators present. There is a wide selection of items available. It s an outdoor adventurers dream. I have never seen so many outdoor hunting products in one area before. This ranged from a plethora of guns, bows and arrows, etc. There are different price points for items too and you can pay $8 to take the elevator to the top of the pyramid. I don't like fishing. I don't like hunting. I don't own a gun. All that being said... this place was pretty darn cool. We wanted to go in because it's a giant pyramid so it stands out. Really thought it would be lame. Great deals on clothing. Wish I was willing to spend some money but vacation is over. I already spent too much. Every beef jerky making machine you can imagine. Giant catfish. Alligators. I'm terrified of heights but we took the elevator up to the tippy top of the pyramid. I was too scared to go out on the glass observation deck but my friend did. $8 a person. We also sat down and he got a beer. Super cool looking bar with giant fish tank. You gotta see this place. After all six people that we asked about Memphis told us we had to go to Bass Pro, we decided something that everyone agreed on must be worthy of at least a short visit. We are from the bass pro headquarters of Springfield, Missouri and I actually didn't have high hopes this place could outdo our own bass pro which is massive size and also has the number one aquarium in the United States eight years running. This pyramid is jaw dropping. From far away, it gleams in the sun, beckoning you to come and take a peek. The exterior reminds me of the Luxor in Las Vegas, but the inside is so much more fun than a casino in my opinion. There are a lot of nostalgic parts of Bass Pro because the animal areas reminded us of Wonders of Wildlife back home in Springfield. Even though we've been to our bass pro many times we wanted to completely explore this location and we had a super fun time looking at everything that the building had to offer. If we ever come to Memphis again, I think our biggest mistake was not staying here. We ran into many people that were staying at the hotel and they all seemed super happy about their accommodations. We wasted no time in taking the elevator to the top and even the 45 minute wait flew by as we got to know the fellow patrons in line with us. There is also lots to look at as we waited in line because Bass Pro always has a fun selection of items to purchase. My kids especially liked the dinosaurs filled with sand and picked out a pig dog toy for our Frenchie that we knew that she would adore. We loved taking the elevator to the top at the lookout and hearing the story of how this building came to be. At the top, it was a beautiful view of the bridge, buildings and all of the surrounding area. We also were able to score an amazing reservation at the Lookout and enjoyed a fantastic lunch that we will be talking about to all of our friends and family. I think we spent around 3 1/2 hours at Bass Pro and we really enjoyed every minute of it. read more

This place is a mega store for fisherman and hunters. I'm neither but the outside intrigued me so I walked in to see what it was all about. It's quite beautiful inside and it has a lot of nice features such as fish tank and a pond. I somehow missed reviewing this jem. This the best thing to ever happen to any pyramid in the tri-state area. It may even be the best thing to happen to any pyramid in all of North America. It's a Bass Pro Shop, duh! The backstory on this place and how it became a Bass Pro Shop is a long one.... I ain't got time for all that, so Google away. It used to house our college and NBA games, some other sports stuff, a few big religious sermons, and was a terrible music venue as well. Sound was aweful. Anyway, this place is rad! I mean like really, really cool. Even if you are not an outdoorsy kind of person, you will almost surely appreciate what lies inside this stainless steel monstrosity that is perched on the bluff of the mighty Mississippi River. There is so much to see and take in inside. It's hard to really explain it and do it justice. Fish tanks, hotels, bowling lanes, shooting range, antique guns, ammo, camo, Santa, portable stoves, duck decoys, boats floating in an inside manmade lake with ducks, fish, and other wildlife. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm, and on Sundays from 10am to 7pm. Plenty of parking Service - N/A, well not one sales person approached us. Unlike the other locations we frequent. PROS: this place was one of the top two sporting goods store I've ever been to. This building was HUGE when approaching it and inside looked like a jungle! Prices are all good, restaurants are located inside, and the staff was nice CONS: they charge you to ride the elevator to the top of the pyramid and the elevator is very slow. It's a smaller Bass Pro than the normal ones but it still has the usual fish tank, taxidermy, and shopping. It does have more indoor ponds but not much fish in them. There is a duck call "museum" upstairs. There's also a Wahlburgers (we did not go to), a hotel ( didn't stay there), and a restaurant at the top. We did, however, pay $38 to go to the observation deck. I think it's free if you eat at the top restaurant. HARD PASS! So not worth more than $1 per person to ride the elevator. You have a view off one side of the pyramid and it faces the bridge. You're not really that high up and the view is nothing special. Maybe if you got to walk around all four sides? Or walk around the inside that high looking down on the sales floor? It's your regular bass pro with a different outside. Kinda a let down really. read more

It's located in a former NBA arena and the inside is massive. -There is so much to do from a full hotel, bowling, restaurants, live fish and alligators, a museum, and an observation deck overlooking the Mississippi River. The main floor is a flagship-style retail sales floor with a large variety of products including clothes, hunting equipment, hats, shoes, and nostalgic foods and candies. -The inside is very clean, family friendly, and free to walk around-- making it more financially accessible to experience. This makes is perfect for road trips, families, and kids. Parking is also free and vast. -The overlook is only $8 for a ride to the top of the pyramid in a glass, free standing elevator. The top has a nice themed restaurant. The over look is accessible on two sides of the pyramid with a glass deck extending over the pyramid. It is just a unique experience and view-- it felt very much like a tourist attraction, perfect for pictures, kids, and families. -The entire retail floor, hotel, restaurants, and bathrooms are themed very nicely to feel outdoor. It's massive inside, and every inch of the interior is decorated so nicely, truly immersing the customers to receive the full experience. Cons: -Upon entering we were bombarded with salespeople on the floor trying to sale hotel packages for the upcoming father's day weekend. They would not take no for an answer and kept asking us questions like where we were from, which hotel providers we stayed with, and how many were in our family to a hotel package. It was annoying. -It is very dark inside, making it hard to tell the color of some items such as hats or clothing-- especially for older people. - The staff was not overly friendly for the observation deck. The lady selling tickets for the ride up to the top floor was very rude and condescending. Kind of disappointing. -Staying at the actual hotel itself is very expensive and unpractical for a regular middle class family. Just one night for a family of four is upwards of $600+ for a base room. As deaf consumers it's very frustrating to be asked again and again what size our shoe request was. Simply 19.5 or 11. But it took 10 minutes to get that understood! Why?? Because we are deaf? There was no communication barriers as I had been using my phone to type out the request. And yet still not understand 10.5 or 11. Bring out size 10 shoe. Why??? Bass Pro Shops are known for being over the top with their locations, but this one definitely goes above and beyond when it comes to over the top. This location resides solely inside the Memphis Pyramid. Talk about unique and a draw for the area. This store is basically a tourist attraction on it's own. It's wonderful to see a reuse of the building and I could see myself spending a ton of time in here. Even if I'm not a big outdoor person, I can appreciate this store/building. I found myself lost in here for hours. I did every single thing that I could do and I even purchased a few items which surprised even me. I made sure to stop by the Ducks Unlimited museum area. I walked all around and took in all the fish and animals they had in house for their aquariums. I even made my way to the top of this place, but that is another review unto itself. I like that they have a side street to get to the parking for the Bass Pro Shop. This is the largest Bass Pro Shop, tallest free standing elevator, and probably have other achievements attached to it. Plenty of parking up front since this is a hotel as well. The staff is extremely friendly and talkative. They are all trying to sale you something. We were approached multiple times to sign up for the credit card and look at a time share presentation. I know the employees do not have a choice in this matter but corporate needs to pull back on this to make the shopping experience more comfortable. They have some restaurants, bowling alley, fish tanks or ponds, and hunting section. You can take the elevator to the top for the lookout and you have to buy a ticket. This is so cool! Like the world's largest Bass Pro Shop inside a giant pyramid in Memphis. Who knew? My husband said it used to be a sports venue and I had to see it. He was right. I loved it. This is a super nice store. It basically has anything and everything you'd ever want for outdoors, as well as gifts and lots of clothing and some snacks and food - Moonpie anyone?. It's two stories, it has boats and fishing and camping and cooking gear and everything else. It has a small aquarium and probably some other stuff I didn't even see. We roamed around for an hour and didn't see it all. It has moats inside with bridges you walk over, multiple restaurants and giant live bass swimming around. There are several places for children to play and learn and overall it's just awesome. You can also ride to the sky deck of the pyramid and eat or observe from the lookout. This is an outdoor fanatics heaven and I was blown away by how massive and cool this store is. You are quickly greeted by the one of a kind pyramid as you approach the store and its definitely not hard to miss. We parked quickly and inside the pyramid we went. The lobby area has plenty of seating and it was very cozy and warm as they had the fire place on. Once inside we were free to roam around. They had a cool pond with some big ol fish and a few mini aquariums throughout the store. We walked around, bought a few souvenirs, and bought our tickets for the observation deck. Once sunset time hit, we made it on up. The observation deck was pretty cool and we were able to catch a glimpse of a train, a few boats, and the beautiful sunset. It wasn't busy and at times we had it all to ourselves. The few workers we interacted with were very friendly. The store was clean and very well organized. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would definitely come back again if and when we come back to the area. read more

Excited to see the inside of the Pyramid Bass Pro. Was what you expected from Bass Pro stuffed animals, trophy heads, etc. this one has an elevator you can ride to the top (you have to pay to ride) and live alligators which is kind of cool, couple aquariums, and waterways that look like stream's throughout the store with some game fish. Has a hotel inside, which if you're riding the elevator you can see into. The hotel rooms look like really cool cabins, my understanding is there are fireplaces in every room. Spoke to what I'm guessing was a hotel promoter who said I could have a room discount if I booked a room "today". Was told the rooms go for, can't remember exact amount but it was over $500.00 night. Would I stay the night at a Bass Pro? Probably not seems kind of weird, but the place is worth visiting. Especially if you've never been to one. read more

This bass pro shop is built like a pyramid. I believe it's the largest BPS constructed. We came here to visit The Lookout, but there's so many other things to do besides shop at this location. They have a hotel, aquarium featuring gar and other fish and alligators, museum, and restaurants within the store as well. The Lookout itself is really cool and you can see downtown Memphis and its rivers from atop the pyramid. I suggest going a little before sunset to beat the crowd and getting a good spot to watch the serene sunset over the river. read more

One of the coolest outdoor sports stores I have ever been too. Does it make sense it is in a pyramid? Nope, but hey you are in Memphis so that is why there is a pyramid but inside you will find a tamarack swamp and southern hospitality. You will find a bowling alley, shooting arcade, shooting range, restaurants, tallest free standing elevator, candy store, aquarium, gators. What more could you want?
