I hate guns and hunting, I haven't fished since I was working in Alaska 30 years ago and they were paying me to do it, and I never go camping; so how did I like Bass Pro? I thoroughly enjoyed myself! There is so much to look at, with it's huge multi-level floor plan, taxidermy, huge aquarium, lots of clothing, candy, gifts... all in a museum like lay-out. They even had a alt-country band playing on Sunday at noon. The prices on the men's clothing was better than i was expecting for a "tourist" type environment. We bought a tackle box for my wife's jewelry making hobby and some candy. Bass Pro will be at the top of my list for a return visit when I'm ready to buy some winter flannel shirts, and outerwear. Went to use the gun range. we informed them we were reloaders. They said its not a problem. Spent 30 minutes checking in the handguns, only for them to refuse us to shot them. He had a shocked look on his face when we informed him, that we just rented a lane, we cant use because we have no AMUNITION. Then we had to wait another 30 minutes for him to put the trigger locks back on, walk us to the door, only to remove them, and get us our refund. We've shot these reloads all over the KC area, with no problem. We should have gone to one of those ranges. read more

Went there for work boots and had trouble finding someone to even help me with a purchase. When I finally did, the salesperson seemed like it was a bother to help out, maybe having a bad day? After she did check and found out that they didn't have the boots, she just walked away and didn't even bother to offer to order them for me. Had little to no interest in customer service. Ended up just ordering them on my phone while in the store. Poor customer service. But amazing store with everything you could possibly want. read more

I used to love this place and I still do, but some things have changed that I'm disappointed about. First of all, for a company that cares about conservation, I feel like the candy and fudge need to be free of GMOs. And I'd really love to see the restaurant and fudge shop make a comeback. It's such a waste of space and makes the store look like a ghost town without it. Local customers who used to visit frequently enjoyed the fudge and old fashioned treats, there was always a line.. it doesn't make sense to shut down such a successful and beloved part of the store. We used to stop there every time. I used to love tasting all the different freshly made fudge and taking extra home. I'm sad to see it in the state it's in, empty and blocked off, collecting dust. We asked employees about it and they said it closed down during covid and never came back but covid ended a long time ago and the department store is open, and those food shops are a part of what used to make it such a great place to visit. We've been to the Springfield location and saw that store still offer these things although the quality there can be improved. There seems to be such a deep rooted oversight in the leadership in this general area. My kids have fond memories at the shops and playing the games, even the employees were nostalgic. An older employee in the shoe section said it was the first buffalo burger he ever had and loved it. My family had alligator nuggets there and it was fun memory for us too. Anyway, today's shopping experience was good. We appreciate the variety and the building itself is still a cool place, found great prices for what we went for. However, the bathrooms needed cleaned desperately and the shooting range game - all the guns were malfunctioning and it needs to be serviced badly. Another disappointment was the hunting game around the bend of the shooting games was also shut down with the curtains drawn and it was blocked off. That also needs to be serviced and reopened. It feels like too many areas of the store are being neglected. I miss the way this place used to be. Hopefully someone will finally bring it back so future generations can love it like we did back in the day. read more

I was blown away with the decorum and ambiance Bass Pro Shops brought to the table. Never in my life have I ever been to a Bass Pro shop this HUGE. All around the store are scenes of animals in action (deer, coyotes, pheasants, foxes, skunks, elk, moose, bison and obviously they are taxidermy) as well as hikers and bow hunters (mannequins dressed up for the perfect moment). They had a waterfall and also a indoor pond with turtles basking, ducks, and fish! (They we're alive). The staff was friendly, the experience was incredible. This was by far the coolest outdoors store I have ever visited. It was truly a shock for me since I expected Florida to have the coolest. read more

I usually find what I'm shopping for at Bass Pro. They have a great selection in every outdoor department. I am disappointed that the restaurant, Islamorada, is closed. I always enjoyed the seafood they served up there and some of the unique appetizers. It's a great place to shop, or just even "troll" around looking at the wild life including the aquarium, fish and duck pond, etc. Santa shows up around Christmas time and the store overlooks the walking trail, and the waterfalls across the lake including the park. Why I can go into Bass Pro Shop, as if it's any other store, and not yet yelp about it is beyond me. Bass Pro Shop in Springfield used to be my destination when I was at the Lake of the Ozarks, bored. So, they built one in Independence for me, so I'd not go down to the Springfield store. Also, so I'd not waste so much gas traveling to Cabelas. I have always preferred Bass Pro Shop to Cabelas. I think it's the placement of the merchandise, and maybe even the brand name, Bass Pro Shop that is so appealing. We in Independence are quite proud. We rank with Denver, Colorado and Springfield, Missouri. People go to Independence to see this store. Springfield's BPS has a McDonald's, and a cool stuffed bear with horns over looking the same area. It has a barber shop, as well. Despite that, it is amazingly similar to the Independence store. This place is crazy huge, stocking all things outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, gifts, clothing, boats, fudge, food and fun. It has a beautiful waterfall in the middle of the store. There's fresh water aquariums, real ducks in ponds, stuffed dead animals (which oddly fascinates me) in their natural habitat. The general store is where I buy my cornbread mix in the canister. I was buying Cabelas brand, till Independence got Bass Pro Shop. The fudge in the fudge shop is really good. They make it there. I'm not a chocolate lover, so I choose the other flavors. I also buy Bass Pro Shop's brand Swedish Fish. it's much better than the commercial Swedish Fish at the grocery store. The inside resembles a cedar lodge, with 2 floors. There's a cabin setting that is one of my favorite spots. You can smell the cedar. Even as long as the store has been here, the cedar is new smelling. The store ignites your senses. They keep the store immaculate. When they built the Bass Pro Shop, they built a beautiful setting on a lake. The water is serene and meditative. There's bike and walking trails around the area where Bass Pro is located. Bass Pro Shop is totally worth the trip. It is conveniently located near a Hobby Lobby. The road lay out has cool round abouts, but these can drive you nutty. The outside lighting at dusk is so pretty. It's complimentary to the store. Open the doors and you're transported into the most entertaining store possible. - The shooting-range is great. For 0.50 cents you get to shoot at stuffed foxes and squirels. Some of them move or doors open and things light up when you hit your target. -There's huge, fluffy couches to lounge in and gaze upon the lake. -a FUDGE shop!! -For a few dollars you can climb a rock walk with an instructor helping you along the way. -a fish tank with a GIGANTIC catfish. -a real pond with live ducks and fish. Hey Vern! There's another Bass Pro open'n! That's right, the store offers 180,000 square feet of outdoor excitement. I enjoy bass pro and this store has a lot to offer. It's the largest one in Missouri other than the Springfield store, which is twice the size. Great for campers or hunters. It has a beautiful view of the new man made lake just to the side of I-70 and 291. Plenty of stuffed animals and other dead stuff and living ducks floating in their fake wetland. Yes, there are wooden benches too. A cracker barrel is just up the road fix'n vittles to make your day complete. read more

We went here to get my husband a new pole and we left planning to buy a boat, so what does that tell you. We always enjoy his store it has a lot going and it's fun to browse and explore the large boats that we don't need. The guy we spoke to about a fishing boat was very knowledgeable and helpful. My husband was ready to buy on the spot the sales person advise that because it was a used boat going to our bank would be better than using their financing. Dropped our boat off for service in March which we bought there in fall 2017. We rented a trailer at $300 a month. We were told that it would be 3 weeks before they got to it. Fast forward 2 months. After numerous drop ins and phone calls, telling us that we were next. The boat didn't move a inch. We were told because they are short help, which we understand, but we were passed over by other customers that came after us. Needless to say we pulled our boat after 2 months. I brought my girlfriends boat in for service and get warranty woR&K done. They had pictures previously when boat was under warranty and didn take pictures from 3 times before when they said they did. The bottom line is she feels they took advantage of her, last time she was in the service department they were kind of harassing her , but teasing her, it made her feel very offended. The glue was recalled on the floor when she bought it, Springfield said they would replace it when she bought it. Independence store says their not going to replace anything. She also needed service for the outboard motor, Richard told me to bring it up and try to get stuff squared away, I did, but to be greeted by Bruce. This guy was a complete jerk and rude. He was upset with me for not bringing the boat up for some stupid stickers so he can put on the passenger side, when picked the boat up I told him I would bring it up when the driver console came in we could do it then. He tried to call me a liar, but were up 3 times previously with the boat to take care of the matter. He lie. Anyway, we LOVE fishing, it's our favorite past time, so when we went into Bass Pro a few times just to be looked at and treated differently by the employees, I was offended. We were looking for a pair of cowboy boots. There weren't many people looking for shoes and no one near us. An employee, probably a manager of some sort, walking around with a walkie kept looking at us and following us around the store and even had the nerve to get on his walkie and say "Yeah, I've got two over here." He then asked us if we needed any help, although he had just watched another employee as us the same thing. Um...excuse me? I'm sorry that we look different and that automatically makes you assume I'm stealing some of your shoes. After a few other visits, without incident, I saw a "Give us your feedback" card and took most advantage of it. When I asked a man downstairs (who was running a booth for people to sign up for a free trip to Branson) for a pen and started telling him about my Bass Pro experience, he acted like he didn't believe me. He said that the employees aren't judgmental and that I looked perfectly fine. Well, of course I did, I was wearing a pink Bass Pro shirt, cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat. It's not just a store, it's a family outing. I'm not really an outdoorsy girl, but I'm definitely a wannabe ( allergies be damned). I've learned a lot from my outdoorsman Hubby and can picture myself in a fully Bass Pro Shops inspired cabin in the woods. What would I need for that? Camo bed sheets? They have it. A 4-wheeler and a boat? They have that. How about a cast iron skillet and a giant pillow in the shape of a trout? They have that too! While you're shopping for all your camping, fishing, hunting, outdoor cooking, and fantasy cabin needs, the kids can marvel at all the beautifully done taxidermy, super-sized fresh water aquarium, and waterfall. You can see up-close and personal a brown bear attacking a coyote or a buck nibbling some leaves (in post mortem perpetuity, no worries). Look! Those are actual rainbow trout in the pond and totally fake mannequins fishing for them! It's marvelous! They have lots of kid-friendly events throughout the year, the employees are very helpful, and they sell large plastic barrels full of cheese balls. I've been many times and have rarely purchased anything. Who wants to buy a $50 fleece vest you can get at Old Navy for 10 bucks? Not this chick, but I don't go there for that. So why is it that this is the FIRST place I bring my out-of-town guests as soon as they arrive in Missouri? I'l tell you why - and don't laugh, but this otherwise hunting/fishing/camping store is the closest thing to Disneyland we have here in Missouri. You think me crazy, don't you? Bass Pro Shop is a visual masterpiece. Every single inch of this store has been taken into consideration and perfected into a 4-D work of art. The merchandise display is beautiful and thoughtful and intriguing and artistic. The person who is behind visual merchandising of this place is a genius. Old trucks, antique ovens, and pallets are among the very cool venues for displaying merch. I hate taxidermy - I hate everything about it. But the way that BPS displays the array of geese, deer, even wolves amidst waterfalls, sky-lit cabin-like ceilings, and forestry is intriguing and displays like a museum. And what's not to like about the HUGE HUGE HUGE aquariums full of locally caught trophy-winning fish and another of neon tropical fish? Like a resort ski cabin in Aspen, this store is full of beautiful photo-opportunities. Did I mention the couches and chess boards that are there for your use while you look over the BEAUTIFUL home-made lake in the back of the store where people can test ride boats or walk on a little dock to see local fish? Last but not least - this place is VERY family friendly - which seasons attractions for children (including a Winter Wonderland with free crafts and photos with Santa and a 4th of July outdoor play ground with BB gun testing and remote-controlled car tracks). As much as I hate to admit it...I really liked this place. I'm not really into outdoorsy type stuff, but the store design is interesting enough to entertain me for an hour or two. And if you get bored inside, the store is integrated into a small lake setting which you almost have to see to believe. You can take bikes or walk around a scenic, natural setting just outside the store's doors. Although both bass pro and cabelas do similar things in the retail world, there is more to like about BPS. It seems less like one big "hunter"store, the store has better merchandise displays, and everything just looks and feels executed a bit better. Maybe my expectations were too low for this genre of retail, but I'd definitely make return visit if I was looking for durable apparel or to kill a few hours in Eastern Indy. read more

It gets 3 stars because I have experienced generally poor service when shopping here. Twice, I have been looking for something specific and the staff has been less then willing to help me find it. Also, the guys at the gun counter seem to feel entitled to their jobs and are generally unhelpful. I recently got interested in fly fishing and went to the Independence Bass Pro Shop to look at equipment. I found the employees in the fly shop to be very knowledgeable and helpful. They even offered free casting lessons which I took advantage of. The lesson was over 2 hours and very well done. On my first fly fishing expedition to Bennett Springs, I learned the necessity for waders so I visited the Springfield store. In contrast, I found that although the store was bigger, the employees were not as helpful and it was hard to get help. The waders were in the boot section instead of the fly shop so I had to deal with a shoe specialist, not a fishing expert. I rate the Independence store much better than the original store in Springfield. read more

Stopped to buy a tent and wound up buying not only a tent, but some clothing, air mattress and a few other small camping supplies. Clothing was a really good selection and they actually had my size. Wife bought an outfit as well. Parking was easily acceptable. Store was clean. Staff were helpful, in the camping section I had a few questions and the staff I asked were very knowledgeable.
