Only issue might be crew, only crew lead spoke fluent English. *** Scheduling - provided tentative date 3 weeks out, confirmed with 1 week & kept that date. *** Work Site set up - Crew arrived at 8 am, placed tarps at all areas that might be affected by debris & placed plywood sheets against & over areas that might be impacted. *** Work Site Clean up - removed debris in all areas. No issues. *** Workmanship/detail - I'm sure they worked hard, but their attention to detail could be better. 4 areas of concern. 1)accurate nailing of new plywood, 2)proper anchoring of electrical mast, 3)caution during debris removal on roof, 4)level placement of shingles in one vertical area. Description of the work issues: Replaced over 30 sheets of plywood. Used stapler to tack plywood, then nails. Many staples missed rafters & were visible under eaves. Many more visible in the attic which I did crawl through to check. Some nails missed. visible in the attic. While removing the old roof, they used blower to clear/clean the decking. Ended up blowing debris in the range hood exhaust vent, causing debris to get into over-the-range microwave. Front of the house is a vertical patch of roof, that was shingled crooked/slanted. Neighbor, wife, myself all agreed. The crew lead did not think it was. We physically measured & the span was clearly off. He made an adjustment & we accepted it. The electrical mast has two anchor lines to support if against the wire drop pull. Those are removed during re-roofing. They reconnected, saying it was now anchored properly into the rafters. But it wasn't at all. I was lucky enough to cut a hole into our garage ceiling sheetrock and clearly saw they missed the rafters completely. *** Problem solving, trouble-shooting, Quality assurance - After job was done & crew gone, I walked the perimeter, went in the attic and noticed some issues and my wife started the microwave fan. I emailed Bates & they were quick to send their PM out & I was able to point out things. He was able to explain some things to my satisfaction & scheduled the crew to come out & address everything. I called the inspector & he agreed to approve. *** Incidentals - I arranged to have some of the old cement roof salvaged with a company in Auburn. Bates was agreeable to cooperate & worked to have a bunch of the old shingles sent down a chute to be collected. When they returned to address the work issues, they left me with some bundles of shingles so I could re-roof my small back shed. The even offered to roof it. But I declined. (Project for my son & I) They also gave us a gift card for dinner at a nice local restaurant for the trouble. Things I did not think of up front but wish I did. Replaced 30+ sheets of plywood. I would have liked to have kept a good many pieces that they discarded. Also some of the new plywood that they cut & then discarded the remnants, I would also have kept. I did on the 3rd day, ask to keep the newest remnants & I dug some out from the trailer dump bed. But I didn't think of it in the prior days. They also kept & piled the old lead vent pipe flashing. It was quite a pile & made sense when they said they'd take it to the recycle center and maybe get $60 for it. Wish I'd have thought of that, I would have made my son do it for the experience and sense of value & gas money for him to earn. Conclusion - I like Bates. The process, overall communication was very good. They identified & corrected unknown roof issues due to rot & prior installation shortcomings. Thus all the new plywood & some facia board. Room to improve attention to details. New roof looks good. read more

I found Bates during a google search for euroshield rubber roofing in Tacoma and I'm glad we went with them. My father-in-law and I ended up replacing each of our roofs with Bates at the same time and we both had a great experience from start to end. I replaced a concrete tile roof that looked like cedar with a beautifully elegant rubber euroshield shake roof. We have a custom house with a complex roof and Bate's expertise and experience is apparent as Bates fixed our dead valleys. We get quite a bit of shade so we're looking forward to the algae-resistance. Also, we're pleased that the douglas squirrels that lived in the outer part of the roof are also gone. Apparently, our new permanent low-maintenance roof will settle a rich patina in a year (and stay that way) and I'm excited to see how it will look! My father-in-law replaced an asphalt composite roof and the process was also smooth and his roof turned out beautiful too. We found the pricing competitive and straight-forward without any high pressure sales tactics. So much so that we had to apply pressure ourselves to convince my father-in-law that his leaking roof needed replacing. Sarah, the scheduler, ensured that the project was scheduled to meet our availability. The crew lead by Ulysses was a well-oiled machine, quiet, professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. We did have a couple issues that could not be anticipated, but Joe, the project manager, was in constant contact with the crew and onsite continually, making adjustments and keeping us informed of the appropriate solutions for our approval. There isn't even a 1-star rating. I live in a condo and my roof and my neighbors roof started leaking. I am on the board as well as my neighbor. Bates fixed his problem on the first visit, but mine kept leaking. They came like 5 times and ripped out my smoke stack (but told me that wasn't it) and didn't offer to replace that. They put materials here and there-that didn't work. They said they were coming out to replace an entire area with plywood and shingles that would get it-and replace the insulation that was green from being wet so long thru all this. They came out and did none of that. Said they found a nail and that was it. The owner came to my door (he is a huge, angry man) and told me to take down the review off his website! They actually took it down after he called me every day for days, demanding I take it down. I was advised to fill out a police report and get a restraining order! Then they sent our bill to collection. I never got an invoice or a bill from them and I am the treasurer! And then the neighbor gets a collection letter with interest yesterday! They didn't even finish until Dec-January! This is beyond belief!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! Horrible! read more

From the point of sale through completion the entire process was excellent! I had a problem where two roofs blended together. Horrible customer service! Zero Stars - After sending $55,000 for a new commercial roof with a 20 year guarantee you would think when you call to report a leak they would be right out to fix it. Chris has been putting it off for over a month saying he was just to busy. Well how nice for them business is good but my brand new roof has been leaking for over a month. Final straw was today when I reached out again by text and he responded "fix your own f***** leak". Hows that for customer service and professionalism. Avoid at all costs!!! read more

I had Bates Roofing put a roof on my house last summer and it was a nightmare that continues to haunt me. First, I coordinated with the people who rent my house to have the roof replaced during the week they would be out of the house on vacation. Bates roofers showed up one week earlier than we agreed and started working on the house without contacting me to ask permission. I was floored! They claimed it was forecasted to rain the following week. As it turned out, it rained during the time they were replacing the roof. They didn't put enough plastic on the roof and it was pooring down rain in the livingroom. They offered to repair the line crack in the ceiling, but I didn't want them fixing anything else. On one side of the house the trim would not fit back on the house. It turns out they cut the wood too wide. They had to cut the finshed roof and can tell it is a bit off. In the back of the house I noticed a big gap about one inch high and 5 feet long between the roof and the house. Birds or rats could have easily gotten in, Apparently there was some rot in the trim wood and they did not bother to tell me. They just left a big hole. I refused to pay them until they closed the gap. They finally covered it up with a piece of flashing. Recently my renters pointed out that one of the basement windows is cracked. A large bush cover up the window so they did not notice the crack until much later. They said the roofer threw debris from the old roof into the yard and on top of the bushes. They believe the debris cracked the window. With these guys, that figures. read more

Zero stars for 0 customer service, that's how I would describe Bate's roofing, completely in contrast to the claim on their website. I recently purchased a home roofed by Bate's roofing which had improperly placed flashing at the chimney ( as noted by the inspector and a contractor) and a leak there. I called Bate's repeatedly, dealt with two workers, Bill and Chris, both of whom blew me off again and again -they knew I was a single woman, perhaps didn't take me seriously? Finally after over 8 weeks of this, I called the office and the receptionist said she would have the owner call me... nope! The next I heard Bill and Chris had checked the flashing without my knowledge or consent (trespassing??) And as Chris so eloquently put it "we ain't gonna do nothing about it". This sums up their overall attitude and ethic. Avoid this company like the plague as I've told anyone I can via word of mouth and social media. read more
