It's a nice sized campus for a community college as well. Lot's of parking if you get there before 8:30am. If you are there for more than 2 hours, don't park in the visitor spots that say 2 hours. People apparently are abusing those spaces. You can get a visitors pass from someone in many of their offices for the day so use a regular space in that case. I've heard they had 3 vehicle break-ins in less than 2 months of my posting this review and was informed the best monitored lot is 'G'. So, that is where I parked and it turns out to be closest to the building I needed anyway. Lucky me. I read that if people choose to go to shool here that it's hard to get classes. The key is to do everything on-line as soon as they allow. If you snooze you lose and that goes for 4 year institutions as well. So if you don't know..that's the norm. Don't even wait an hour after the lines open for registration. There will always be those who will be willing to be there before you and then remember to prioritize the classes you take the the absolute hardest ones to obtain first. You will know what I mean when you get started with trying to register each quarter. You'll figure it out. I'm not a student anymore, but I'm speaking from remembering my experience. Good luck!

I honestly plan on reporting the school to multiple agencies for discriminatory behavior among other issues! You have to really be on some of the staff to do their jobs accurately. I went through a course that had four professors quit in under two weeks. All coursework that I completed was dismissed and no credit was given. The reasoning is because each time there was a new professor they would assign their own coursework having the entire class start over again. It was really frustrating because excessive homework was assigned just to be unaccounted for. I spent so much time and gave my full effort for each assignment. Another course I was enrolled in, the professor was inactive the whole time and never responded to her students. I'm assuming there was no replacement for that instructor. The only organized professional encounter I received was from my English teacher. He was extremely competent and one of the very few attributes Bates has to offer. Our eldest is a second semester freshman now so our experience with UPS is still somewhat limited…read morebut so far we have been absolutely thrilled with the welcoming & progressive culture of the university, rigorous science, art and history curriculum, clean & safe dorm accommodations, healthy choices in the modern cafeteria and really gorgeous grounds. My Logger is thriving in every way. The cost is our only concern but I'd encourage families to apply for UPS scholarships and work study in addition to the usual FAFSA loans. There are opportunities for study abroad, intramurals and many clubs. The fitness center with swimming pool is remarkable. My kid is really happy here.

Although I can't write about the academia since I did not go to college here, I can write about…read morewhat the campus looks like. It's a very small campus (just one building) so everything is easy to find. There is a parking lot and parking is free, which is great! All the rooms are numbered including the bathrooms in case you get lost. The campus is "fragrance free" which is a new concept for most colleges and I love it. They have a big lecture hall as well as smaller classrooms. All the rooms and seats were quite comfy. I didn't see a cafeteria, but there is a A&W, a Baskin Robbins, and Southern Foods restaurant that are about a 10 min walk away.

No grades, you create your plan of study (with a faculty member) and learn and experience. This seems to be a very hands on learning environment. A lot is expected from students and they can accomplish a lot in their undergraduate tenure. Parking is free and the campus is comprised of one building.
