The students made me a vegetarian meal from the menu sides and it was AMAZING!

This is a review of the Bates Technical College's Cafeteria Gallery Dining Room. The price: The cafeteria side of the restaurant is priced about average for what you would expect. The Gallery Dining Room is incredibly affordable. You can get a three course meal with a coffee for under ten bucks. The service: Culinary arts students are learning front of the house, some for the first time. This means you must be patient with them, they are learning. This also means they will be extra attentive so you will spend at least an hour here. If you're in a hurry, you should order to go or order from the cafeteria side of the restaurant. The food: The food is prepared by the culinary arts students. Sometimes it will blow your mind, other times it will be just okay. Be patient, they are learning and the cool part is you get to be part of the process. You will get your monies worth, no matter what. But I'm vegetarian: There isn't always a vegetarian item on the menu, but the students are always happy to accommodate your needs. Just let them know what you can and can't eat, but be clear. Not everyone knows that chicken stock or geletin isn't vegetarian, they are just learning, so ask specific questions and be patient.

I drove around this campus the day before I had to take a test to get a lay of the land. In looking…read morearound for the building that had the number 6 on it (since they are all numbered), I was able to look around the campus. It was very nice and manicured. It's a nice sized campus for a community college as well. Lot's of parking if you get there before 8:30am. If you are there for more than 2 hours, don't park in the visitor spots that say 2 hours. People apparently are abusing those spaces. You can get a visitors pass from someone in many of their offices for the day so use a regular space in that case. I've heard they had 3 vehicle break-ins in less than 2 months of my posting this review and was informed the best monitored lot is 'G'. So, that is where I parked and it turns out to be closest to the building I needed anyway. Lucky me. I read that if people choose to go to shool here that it's hard to get classes. The key is to do everything on-line as soon as they allow. If you snooze you lose and that goes for 4 year institutions as well. So if you don't know..that's the norm. Don't even wait an hour after the lines open for registration. There will always be those who will be willing to be there before you and then remember to prioritize the classes you take the the absolute hardest ones to obtain first. You will know what I mean when you get started with trying to register each quarter. You'll figure it out. I'm not a student anymore, but I'm speaking from remembering my experience. Good luck!

The advisors, teachers, staff, and especially the financial aid office are so morally bankrupt, incompetent, lazy, rude, corrupt, and honestly just plain pathetic! Returning here for these last couple months has been an absolute nightmare and waste of time! I honestly plan on reporting the school to multiple agencies for discriminatory behavior among other issues! If I were you, I would choose a different school and save yourself the migraines and heartache!

This school is a scam. If you are looking to go here I highly recommend elsewhere, was a complete…read morewaste of my time and I only went here because it was local . After going here for a year they have a terrible attendance policy, no cafeteria, no free parking available, little resources for the students, staff that is under communicative. There have been constant issues with the little resources that should be expected for an art school to provide like printing, paper, pencils, food, free parking. Especially with the tuition we pay for it should be expected to have a little help. Although there are some amazing teachers here, a lot of the staffing issues are strange which affects the students here. Issues about my financial aid and attendance takes weeks for me to get a response. There have been three staff members from the same department one was fired because she was "student oriented" however was the MOST attentive and kind to us. Two left due to disagreements to the staff. Hostile work environments most likely. A handful of staff here come late a lot due to traffic which is understandable however it's a waste of the students time especially considering the attendance policy. Also the attendance policy is TERRIBLE if you miss more than three classes you fail your semester. Which isn't fair to the students because why should I be expected to be there if 90% of the time in your classroom I am sitting and doing nothing for "studio time" or assignments that could easily be done at home or at a students convenience. Your students are adults have other things to attend to, and should have a kinder attendance policy that doesn't make me fail if I miss a few classes? Thats ridiculous how can other colleges especially ones that are more affordable accommodate to this however if I attend ncad I could fail if I have a doctors appointment or i have car troubles or anything that prevents me from going to class. Also it's strange how they have a high percentage of lgbt students/ trans students but no gender neutral bathrooms? And accommodations to disabled students are COMPLETELY ignored especially to physically disabled or neurodivergent students when brought up several times nothing has been a result. You could get the same education if not better at a community college and I feel bad for the new students that have to learn this through experience.
