My laptop wasn't powering up or charging, so I called on a Thursday night, dropped it off on Friday afternoon, and received a call back on Saturday morning at 9:30 that it was finished! They preformed some fast work! They not only fixed the power jack internally, but replaced both tips on my power cord. My final price was only $68. I will say it was a little bit of a pain to have to pay in cash (the only form of currency excepted), but I don't blame them to keep the costs down. I had called around to a few other places and they all wanted at least $100. If you need your computer fixed, this is the place to take it for the price, speed, and wonderful customer service!!!!

Having not dealt with this agency since COVID hit, I had read varied stories of experiences with the BMV. I did my homework and knew about the online check in. I had all my documents (and extras) to get my new ID - while my old one expired 2 days later, my purse was stolen and had no license on hand. I really needed to get a new license so I could begin rebuilding my collection of ID cards - debit, credit, insurance, etc. Everything that was in my wallet = gone. Even my Red Cross donor card I learned today as I reported to donate blood. But I digress . . . It looked like the line was not too bad - until I turned the corner and saw it go on and on into the darkness. It was almost raining and very dark. I took my place in line. In a rush to get in line, and thinking I'd check in and then get to wait in my car, I didn't grab my headphones or anything else to help pass time. Shame on me. 8 AM arrived and I signed on online. It said to check in when I got inside the BMV. But I couldn't get out of line or jump ahead to get into the building - and I figure everyone else in line checked in - so it turns out that checking in online is useless. Before it really began to rain, the line moved forward enough to get me under some covering over the sidewalk. Small miracles. When I finally got to where I could see inside, I saw there were may 6 people working - each with a customer, then 3 seated in line, the rest in line outside. It was one out and one in. Once I got inside, things seemed to move along - not quickly by any means - but you could see people leaving at regular intervals. It was probably an hour overall that I got my turn. The gentleman who did my processing was quite pleasant. I used to work with this BMV a lot with a former job and recognized many of the people who had been there for years - but he was not one of them. He was, however, refreshingly positive and friendly. My documents were accepted, I passed my vision test, and eventually given my bill to pay by credit card - the one thing that did not get stolen besides my Giant Eagle rewards card. Go figure. Another small miracle - they take credit cards. My photo was taken and I was given a paper copy until my license is mailed to me. So now I kind of have a photo ID. Next up is to get a bank card so I can have access to my cash. Onward. I only hope next time I have to deal with the BMV in person there not be a pandemic to make matters inconvenient . . . .

Ok, so it's snowing cats and dogs outside and wouldn't you know it... the good old computer fails…read moreto boot up. Having had the thing for 6 years I figured a funeral was in order, but before that I decided to see if anyone could resuscitate the old beast. Enter Computer Wizard... an at home operation of a young guy named Dale who is passionate about helping people just get back to their electronic social lives, or I have heard he even can help people create their own computer works of genius. Having no idea what the hell was wrong with my computer. It was WAY past my mere level one comprehension of any and all IT issues... I give Dale a call and he said, "Sure! Bring it over!" He was really professional had us sign a couple forms and explained his diagnostics process and then we were on our way. He in no way made us feel inferior or technologically unintelligent .. (although we probably are). Dale tries to stock up on parts during really good sales, which saves US money in the end, so he ended up installing a HUGE new Hard-drive to replace my failing old one for a fair amount and after diagnostics and all that jazz... my bill was cheaper than most repair places would charge. Also, he runs deals here and there (Like on YELP!), so keep an eye out. It may save you some extra dough. My computer was ready to go after a couple of days.. although I wasn't able to pick it up until the weekend, but it's working like new and he was able to save the 6 years of files I had on there from wedding pictures, to artwork files... to my music library! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND COMPUTER WIZARD!

It is in a very grungy industrial area of Cleveland, and the building itself is fairly grungy and industrial looking, and though across from COTA it's marked as a city agency- because it's actually a subcontractor. But there are a few little signs, one that points you down the road and a couple that say enter and exit. I've included in a picture of what it looks like where you turn in. There's not much there. When I arrived, there was a dog playing with a ball, one guy working near the building, and a whole bunch of carts set up by the dropoff area. Friendly guy, though, and friendly dog. You can bring batteries, and even more hazardous stuff here. There's a list on the website, but includes: gas, oil, CFLs, and more. Super easy and fast drop off. Clean out your garage and bring some things here.

I'm surprised that I'm the first to write about CMS. Columbus Micro has been my computer store for…read moremany years; I'd say 15-20 years or more. The advantage over Micro Center has always been that at CMS you could bring in a machine for service and buy a new motherboard or graphics card and either install it yourself or have them install it for you. I think that over the years, they've gravitated toward one brand and fewer add-ons. But I still use them for service. Just last month I took my machine in for a new motherboard. Their prices for repairs is very reasonable and their service is pretty fast.
