I am one of those people who wear a watch every day. About four years ago, I had my watch battery replaced at Batteries Plus for the first time. Two years later, I went back for another replacement, since watch batteries typically last around two years. That time, the associate suggested I opt for their "KITWATCHLIFE" service, a lifetime battery replacement for that specific watch, for $21.99 plus tax. It was only about $9 more than a standard battery replacement, so I figured that if I used it just one more time, I would come out ahead. I was told all I would need to do in the future was provide my phone number. I saved my receipt, just in case. Fast forward to today, I returned for another battery replacement. The store was empty except for one associate, Samantha. At first, she seemed hesitant, not because she didn't want to honor the lifetime service, but because she was concerned about damaging an expensive watch. She mentioned that if the watch was worth more than $150, they might instead offer to refund the lifetime service fee or transfer it to a different watch. I told her the battery had already been replaced twice there without issue. She decided to proceed and, to my surprise, replaced the battery in just a few minutes, much faster than previous visits. In the end, I definitely got my money's worth. If you have a watch that isn't particularly expensive, I think this is a good program to consider at Batteries Plus. Just be aware that some staff might be cautious if your watch is on the pricier side. read more

They have a great selection and fantastic staff. Unfortunately, their products are obscenely overpriced. We needed a battery for a car fob and the price was approximately $22. Eek!!!! The same battery can be had at a drugstore or supermarket for under $7. I highly recommend this place because they have every battery you could possibly want or need. If I had been in a rush or it was an emergency situation, I definitely would have bought the battery. The two female employees were terrific! They were friendly and knowledgeable. What a great place! I called as my battery in my Honda CRV was completely dead and they found a replacement which was in stock and told me to come in. After jumping the car, it started displaying lots of warnings and system failures (later found out this is normal until you drive it after a battery death). I called the store back and instead of just telling me it was ok to drive it and to still come in to cement the sale, they recommended I call the dealer, who does that anymore? After calling the dealer and determining it was ok to drive, I drove to the store where they sold me the battery then installed it for FREE? Again, who does that anymore? The dealer would have charged me an installation fee, labor, system reset fee and who knows what else. This is a great, small neighborhood shop that used to be the norm but is now the exception. I had my work iPhone crap on me. Apple store wouldn't do anything but sell me a new one. My service provider said they don't do that. Two people told me to get a new battery. This place was honest and up front about the cost and that they couldn't guarantee a fix. Milo told me that if they couldn't fix it, they would not charge me. That was key for me. In like 10 minutes he was able to open my iPhone, switch the battery and place it all back together. We plugged it in and waited and viola, you have a customer for life. My iPhone 5S needed a new battery. Saw the $10 off coupon and set up an appointment for 1 PM on Sunday, 1/8 online. When I arrived, they were busy, and told me to leave the phone and they would call me when it was done. When I hadn't heard from them at 5 PM (they are open until 6 PM) I called, and they said to come over and pick it up. I arrived to find that the fingerprint reader did not work, and the person that took care of it said that "it is no big deal, just enter your password the old way." When I got home, I realized that they had not given me the $10 discount for setting up online. Also, the battery life was no better than on the original, and the headphone jack no longer worked! I went back and complained, and they refunded all my money, but now I am stuck with an iPhone that no longer reads my fingerprint, a broken headphone jack and the same battery life as I started! read more

This is my second review of Batteries Plus Bulbs in Northbrook and I must say that I am very impressed with John and his employees at this store and I am not easily impressed. I have a Bose aviation head set that worked fine except that the battery pack was broken. The headset is very expensive and Bose would not help at all except to push me to buy a new head set. John, however, was able to troubleshoot the problem and make sure that the battery power source would fit my needs. Also, they were able to troubleshoot a problem with my kids Buzz Light Year. Went here to get a VL2020 battery tonight around 8:15pm I walk in without an employee in sight. Kid walks out from the back after I stomp my feet few times getting the snow off. Stands by the door without a greeting. I had to ask "are you still open" which he responds "yeah til 9, what you need" Wow. I showed him the battery and asks where is the part number. There is a clear part number printed on the battery. I pointed it out to him, without even checking he says we don't have 2020 battery. He proceeds to open a drawer full of these small coin shaped batteries, and starts to shuffle them around then says "we don't have these." This place is a joke. Batteries plus? Don't seem to know anything about them. Customer service? Ha, nice try. First thing that pops up when you google search = RADIO SHACK. Skip this place and go straight to RADIO SHACK. The individual who repaired the broken screen on my phone damaged a metallic ribbon underneath the home button rendering it useless. This process took approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. Because the replacement part was out of stock, I had to rely on the phone's accessibility functions to use the phone. After bringing the phone in the next week for the repair, the manager did not reassemble the phone properly; the upper right edge of my screen is now detached. I requested a full refund; however, the manager did not honor my request, claimed "[he would] eat the cost", and proceeded to charge me wholesale for the screen. Additional damage to the phone includes intermittent white spots on the screen, occasional screen freezes (rendering the entire screen white and requiring a restart), and two green spots in the bottom right of the screen. read more

Set up an appointment on-line at the Northbrook location (this after being given a two day wait at Apple, plus leaving the phone their for half a day). Went into the store at the scheduled time- the team knew I was coming in. Reviewed the phone with me. 20 minutes later, walked out with an installed new battery. New battery life has be awesome. I have been here several times for assorted light bulbs and they gave always been quite friendly and helpful. 4 months ago I enrolled in their car fob battery replacement plan. Instead of $10 each time my fob battery died. $17.99 for life of car batteries. I sent my 'new driver ' daughter to stop in last week to replace a dying battery. They could not find any record under any phone number she gave them and left without the new battery. I went in yesterday to see what could be done. They remembered my daughter and tried various phone numbers with no luck. The guy behind the counter ( I wish I had gotten his name) looked back through their records month by month until they found my car and discovered the phone number had been entered incorrectly originally. I thought that they went above and beyond to help out for an $18 purchase. Also they are great at replacing IPhone batteries ($60). ( I saw the previous review of iPhone battery replacement. Absolute Horrible customer service, my sister brought 2 car batteries 2 years ago, over $400.00 I told her to go to this place and not Walmart (Which turns out to be a horrible mistake) her one car battery has not been holding a charge for about 6 months I told her just take them back since they have a full warranty till 11/16/23. She took it back today and the Manager Glenn Ware explained to her that they would NOT be replacing her car battery and told her that everyone knows you have to start your car every other day or all batteries would die. She was so upset on how rude store manager Glenn Ware was she called me and asked if I could call him, I thought he was just conning my sister since she is a woman I called and I was shocked to hear him say if we were going to be away from our car more than a few DAYS we would need a trickle charge hooked up, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT I screamed what if I fly out of town I need to find an electric outlet???? He acted like I was 16 years old (I'm 60 years old and have been around cars all my life) I absolutely can't believe that Batteries Plus would have a manager like this running their store trying to save the company a Buck. I know without a doubt Walmart would not have let this go this far. When I told him we were going to report him to the BBB and different reviews he said do whatever you need to do. I have an older Samsung Note 4 which was losing power fast and crashing after brief usage. My phone vendor insisted that I needed a new phone. First, I went to Batteries Plus in Northbrook hoping they would have a battery for my ancient device. I met with John and Chris and they quickly found me a NEW exact replacement battery. ( I was shocked because my phone store didn't have them in stock and implied a search would be futile.) John then looked at my phone and quickly pointed out ways to limit the battery usage and how to turn off apps that were eating up my battery life. In less than 5 minutes I was out the door happy!!! What are the chances that 2 of our iPad screens shatter in one week :( I'm in the area quite a bit so I popped in on a Sunday evening with iPad #1 (extremely shattered) I walked into an empty store. Looked around for a few minutes and was finally helped. The guy was nice enough but sloooow moving. He made no promises but said the tech would get back to me the next day about the repair. I did get a call the next day and unfortunately the iPad was unrepairable. Fast forward a few more days - I thought I would give them another shot when my hubby dropped his iPad. Again, no promises but in the end the repair was very successful & hubbys iPad looked new again. They did have a coupon that I was able to use this time around. I would like to express my appreciation for amazing service provided for me by Batteries Plus Bulbs business. I am a permanently disabled person and bound to my power wheelchair, When it stopped working, I was not able to get help from company which was providing home bound disabled people home services earlier, since they went out of business. The assumption was that the cause for the problem are the batteries. So, I contacted this store with an unusual request: diagnose the wheelchair problem over the phone and advice on who can provide the service at my home. They took my problem very seriously, and, as an exception to being only in-store service provider, sent service person to find the problem and fix it. They came next day, fixed it fast, and made not just my day, but my winter more tolerable :) They proved that good people always help people in need even if it takes an extra step. I went into the Northbrook Batteries Plus Bulbs today to purchase a $350 battery for my back up sump system. I asked Christian if he could help me verify that the battery I chose was the correct replacement for the one I currently own. He said there was no way for him to check, even though I had the make and model of the current battery with me. I said I had looked at it online and it appeared to be the right match but just wanted to be sure, hoping that he had some expertise or even basie product knowledge. He again said there was no way he could check or verify that the battery I wanted to purchase was a good match. Then, rudely with an attitude he said, "Do you want the battery on not?" I replied, not from you and walked out of the store. It's clear that this young man needs training in customer service and product knowledge. He knew absolutely nothing about the battery and didn't even ask what it was meant to be used for. This is the last time I'll be in this store. He tested the battery, made sure it was good and then helped us obtain a new one for another vehicle by letting us trade in the former battery. Great experience at Batteries Plus today. My old Samsung Galaxy II phone started acting flaky yesterday, shutting off and overheating. I wondered if it could be the battery, so before heading to the AT&T store, I stopped in Batteries Plus. John, who turned out to be the manager, listened to the symptoms and suggested it might be a faulty on/off switch. While he opened the phone to investigate, he tested my old battery in his tester. Then he tried a new battery in the phone. The phone turned on even before he put the back cover back on, so he was more convinced it was the on/off switch. He unscrewed and opened the phone and saw the small rubber on/off switch had compressed, making it stuck in the on position. Then he went to work--he put a small bit of glue on the switch to make it thicker. When it was too thick, he ground it down. 2 times. On the third try the switch and the phone were back to normal. He put my battery back in, telling me that wasn't the problem, but if it didn't hold a charge since it was old, I could come back to buy a new one. And then he wouldn't take any money. He fixed my phone and wouldn't take any money! He said all he used was a tiny bit of glue. Plus he was really nice about answering all my questions. I was very grateful! read more
