Three years ago, I had a great experience here for my annual eye exam. I'm happy to report that Battle Born Eye Care is still five stars! I was in and out in exactly an hour, and it was easy to schedule my exam on their website. I appreciated that they sent text message reminders and are taking COVID-19 precautions seriously. I love the sleek aesthetic of the office and the bougie details like the neat lil tray you can rest your glasses in while Victoria is doing the autorefractor machine test. Dr. Nannini is super friendly, as was everyone else in the office, including Victoria and Sam. And another staffperson who took my temperature but whose name I forget. They are all chill but very professional. Dr. Nannini even indulged me in sharing his perspective on what I've been seeing in eye doc TikToks, like how awful eyeliner tattoos and cheap lash glue are for your eye health. They couldn't get my regular glasses right -- even after two tries. Told me and my husband were candidates for glaucoma and need to bill our health insurance instead of vision insurance. (Yeah, right.) Husband found a different provider and whatta ya know - no glaucoma flags for him. I gave BB a second chance and they refused to see me unless they bill my health insurance -- not my vision insurance. So, nope. Won't be using BB for my eye care. Watch your wallets! Update 12/14/24: BB had pulled an authorization with VSP and didn't cancel, so new DO had to cancel it so I could get new glasses and eye exam. read more

I had to get my annual exam so I chose here since it's close to our house. Hubby had an appointment on Saturday. Both visits were punctual, courteous and knowledgeable. No pressure on upgrading or buying anything. They do have a smaller selection of glasses, which is good then you don't have to spend more time deciding. read more

Receptionists are rude and one even told me that I didn't care about my eye's because I didn't have the money for an exam due to other emergency medical bills. Which was none of their business. Eye exams are thorough at Battle Born Eyecare, but not always accurate, occasionally there is a 20 minute wait for the good doctor in those little tiny stuffy rooms, and the staff is semi friendly, although there is an abundance of staff turnover (that should have been my first clue about what was to happen). After healing from eye surgery (both eyes), I was anxious for a new prescription--and took 3 Designer frames in to have the new prescription replace old lenses (over $1400 just for lenses). A week later they arrived and I picked them up -- they were ALL wrong. Apparently, the "optician" didn't take the right measurements for all 3 frames. When I called the office to report the problem, it was a Friday morning, regular business hours--but, surprisingly, they'd decided to close the office for the day--closed on a Friday? Okay, so I left a message, they called back on Monday and could not see me until Tuesday when I returned with all 3 frames (with the wrong lenses) and asked for a quick turnaround since I don't see well without them--which was met with a snippy attitude from the "optician". That was a bit annoying, but things got worse. They would not "fix" all 3 frames, just one pair (no doubt to save THEM money--never mind the client who can't see for beans). THREE WEEKS LATER and I still didn't have the glasses. I left another message, explaining that I was trying to be patient but that's the longest I've ever had to wait for a new prescription (as a side note, I've been wearing glasses for 65 years and never had this happen before). After a series of texts and a general runaround, I finally asked to talk with the Dr. for resolution. After some time, she was able to locate the glasses (surprise!! How long had they been sitting on them I wondered, she declined to answer and blamed it on the mail carrier). I explained that 3 weeks was not acceptable, it was their error--not "a mistake" (a mistake would be one incorrect measurement, not 3), their staff was incompetent and the Dr. said flippantly, "mistakes happen", without even a hint of apology--or admission of error on their part. She offered a refund (obviously wanting to get rid of an unhappy customer, rather than apologizing or resolving the problem--it's not like I would ever come back to this office). There's more---she wanted all the old lenses back in order to refund. Fine--they're completely useless to me. Wanting to be done with this ridiculous, time consuming hassle, I returned for the swap, and the refund, then had to wait some time while they processed the refund (she blamed that on a "slow computer" so I finally sat in the lobby as she slowly processed the credit to my account) removed the mis-measured lenses--including the ones that had already been sent back--they were still wrong a second time. So frustrating--I"ve lost weeks of time (1 month for surgical healing and another full month plus, waiting for the people at Battle Born to do their job right), at great expense and not able to see to read (drugstore glasses are lousy and no longer cost a couple of dollars)--only to find that they failed to return my credit card (from the refund)! I sat in their lobby for a good 20 minutes while they struggled with removing the lenses and not once did they realize they had not returned my card--later she says, "you forgot your card"--No, YOU didn't give it back to me after I waited for you to finish the credit! SMH. Bottom line, the staffer who took the measurements is obviously incompetent (3 wrong measurements is not a simple mistake--it's far worse than that) and the woman who kept my card was just not paying attention. Also. In business, when there is an error, it's customarily followed by a very nice apology and every effort to fix the problem or even a credit for all the trouble. Not at Battle Born Eyecare--they are apparently more concerned about how much money they make rather than keeping long term customers happy. If you're a customer here, beware of bad prescriptions and incapable opticians--your eyes are too important to waste time and money on people who don't care. read more

They were super sweet and knowledgeable and one thing I loved, was they actually explained everything to me and talked to me like a human being. I've been here twice, once was a medical eye emergency and the second was a routine eye exam for contacts. The Doctor explained everything in detail, and was very professional,as well as friendly. The support staff is amazing, they keep in contact, and are very friendly. My contacts were on backorder, which isn't their fault, and they kept me in the loop with text notifications and a phone call as to when I should expect my contacts, in addition, they ordered extra trial pairs to get me through the time. We are from the Bay Area and had just arrived in Tahoe for a ski weekend on a Friday night when my 3 year old accidentally hit my eye and scratched my cornea. I was in a lot of pain and was so happy to find Dr. Nannini at Battle Born Eye Care who got me in right away Saturday morning and was able to give me a bandage contact to wear to protect my eye till I got home. I came to Battle Born Eye Care to establish as a new patient and it was relatively quick to get an appointment, about 2.5 weeks. My appointment was at 11:30 and I had already done the new patient paperwork online (a big thumbs up) so all I had to do was check in. I arrived at 11:30 and unfortunately there's only one receptionist who was busy so I didn't get checked in until 11:37. The appointment went well and Dr. Chris Nannini was very nice, professional and thoroughly explained everything. What really turned me away from the practice was when Dr. Nannini sent me back to the waiting room to give my eyes about 15 minutes to dilate, while I waited he grabbed another patient so the 15 minutes wait turned into more of a 20+ minute wait. I have had my eyes dilated many, many times before and never have I been asked to wait that long to dilate my eyes. I think they were short staff or they double booked patients, either way it is not right to be shuffling between patients. Appointments are made for a reason. Oh and their selection of frames is ok, not bad but not great. Everyone is very nice though! read more

I would not recommend Battle Born Eye Care. I had an eye examine July 28, 2017 and picked out glasses. It took me over three weeks to receive glasses that ended up having the wrong prescription in one eye. They were sent back and three weeks or so later I get glasses that left me dizzy and nauseous so I returned them. I asked for a refund but I was called by Chris who wanted to give it another try. I went back in he examined the glasses I returned and made some adjustments. He was going to send them back in a third time when I suggested it may be the frames. He said that was a thought so I picked out new frames Before he sent them in he was going to first check with Sam's Club, where I received my current glasses that I have had for over two years. In all my 60 years of wearing glasses I have never had a eye professional check with previous eye care establishment. I left having doubts if the glasses would be correct. Now, it is October 12, 2017, three weeks since I went in a third time, and I still do not have glasses. I have given up and have advised my credit card company to get a refund for glasses that I paid for July 28,2017 because I just need to move on and get new glasses. read more
