I just wanted to leave some advice for the patients. I was not a great patient. I turned 30 and started getting gaps in my teeth and thought Invisalign would be an easy fix. You have to consistently wear your Invisalign, almost all day and all night. It can be really painful and annoying and easy to just take your trays out and forget about them. And you need to use your chewys so the tray fits right on your teeth. I was so embarrassed for every appointment because I now know, I do not handle teeth pain well, and I would just take my tray out and tell myself I would put it back in later. Then a day would go by and I'd try to put the tray back in and my teeth would shift already and it would not fit, so I'd have to go back a tray or two and basically start over. I also would take the trays out in my sleep!!! Your teeth shift so much faster than you'd think! At my appointments, I could feel the disappointment on everyone. I'm sure it's frustrating to have to keep doing adjustments and order more trays for patients. I should've been a quick 29 weeks, but I had to pay another $600 for an extra adjustment almost 2 years later, I am finally getting a permanent retainer. And I don't think my teeth are as perfect as Dr. Shapiro hoped, but my gaps are gone and I am happy. And I've heard Dr. Shapiro tell patients that they have to wear their trays or things weren't going to work out. So, I know I'm not the only patient that has been a sort of Invisalign fail. I guess, my advice is go with braces. It will just be easier. Or truly truly commit to wearing the Invisalign and using the chewys. In any case, Dr. Shapiro and his team are so great. Since I had a full exam within the last 3 years, my insurance wouldn't cover it fully and it cost me $118 for the visit. I'm not upset about this because it makes sense that as a new patient, I would need to establish care and get a full examination. Just make sure to check with your insurance if they will cover a full exam so there aren't any surprises. I only had to wait 10 minutes before being called back by the dental hygienist. She was very kind and explained everything before she did it. She had a soft hand as well. When she was done with my cleaning, I didn't have to wait long to be seen by the doctor. As a patient with minimal dental issues, I had zero complaints about my appointment as a new patient.
