Used to love this place, actually worked here as a hostess back in high school. Went today and will not be back. We found two long hairs in the food. The biscuits were not cooked through. Two people ordered rye toast and it was not rye. The eggs were not at all cooked how ordered. The water had a funny taste, but wasn't the worst. On the home from camping we stopped in for Brunch. Cute looking place, bakery and restaurant. We didn't try the bakery side just the restaurant. I am not sure how the Bakery is. Service was ok 3 out of 5. Ordered extra crispy hash browns and was told we will see? Food was not great. Sausage wasn't cooked, ordered well done patty melt it came medium pink, country fried steak was under cooked and breading was soggy with under cooked center. Ordered fries with the patty melt and got all the ends. Chili was ok, coney style, very sweat and sour type taste to it. Ice tea was good and most of the employees were nice. Overall not great, but it was a cute pace. Wouldn't stop again though. read more

Grabbed breakfast here before our morning tee time. Was a retro diner feel. Very cute. The service was great, single service items to abide by COVID standards. Food came out in expected amount of time, was fresh and tasty. I got the breakfast sandwich with homemade bread, was really good. Also had hash on the side, was exactly what I expected. read more

We had a good breakfast here. Potato pancakes were tasty as was the homemade bread. The service was quite good. The lady who waited on us showed interest in our visit and served us quite quickly. We also bought some doughnuts next door which were tasty also. While it was not high end cuisine I'll point out that we're talking about a small town, family owned restaurant and, for that, they do a nice job. Give them a try! read more

Excellent doughnuts! Would recommend if you're in the area. We didn't eat at the restaurant just got a dozen doughnuts to go. The maple glazed chocolate doughnut was my favorite. Our family preferred the cake like doughnuts to the yeast doughnuts. read more

It's an OK restaurant if you can get past the fact that there's absolutely nothing German about it, although the word Bavarian is in its name. They don't even make an attempt to be anything German. It's weird. Yea, I know, that's Oscoda Michigan for you. This is a fairly basic restaurant where you're able to grab a greasy spoon breakfast or a no nonsense lunch. There's lots of staples on the menu and not very many specials. The one big dining room is open and airy. In front near the register counter is a pastry counter where, like I said, there isn't anything German to it. They do offer raspberry strudel, but then so does my local supermarket. Oh, and their rye bread is pretty good so I suppose that is one authentic German item. Germans do like their rye bread. This restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch. It's not open for dinner. read more

Not really too much makes it Bavarian or German. Their bakery has some pretty great homemade pastries, donuts and bread. The breakfast fare is pretty standard in comparison to the other offerings in nearby towns, but one thing did stand out to us and it was the sausage gravy. Being a girl from the south, I know a thing or two about a good sausage gravy with your biscuit and this stuff was stick to your ribs good. You can add it on top of your omelet or have it on the side of your sausage, egg and cheese biscuit sandwich and it will be delicious. read more

The donuts we got this morning were terrible, not fresh at all! Spent $26 on a dozen donuts/bakery items, and couldn't even finish one bite. We returned them and they only gave us a $12 refund. My family has been vacationing to Oscoda for 30+ years, and we used to love getting fresh bakery items every year from here. It's a shame this place has gotten so bad. I ordered the Farmer's Omelet, minus the onions of course. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the cheese was melted almost into pure liquid. The vegetables were soft and cooked through, which is how I like them in omelets. The breakfast potatoes were good. Crunchy on the outside and a nice golden brown. They lacked seasoning, but with a little bit of salt and pepper added they were sufficient. I ordered the omelet with white toast, but after tasting a bite of pancakes that someone else had ordered, I think I will end up getting those next time (they were amazing!). This review is only for the bakery side, as I didn't not eat in the restaurant side. My sole stop here was for the baked goods, and some goods I got! When walking into the establishment one can walk to the left and be in the bakery section, or one can walk to the right and wait to be seated in the kitschy restaurant. The day I stopped in, a Friday at noonish, it was fairly busy with people coming and going, from both sides while I was there. A good sign in my book. First thing I noticed was all the donuts! Lots and lots of yummy donuts, well lit in a very clean case. There was also lots of danishes, cakes, cookies and other sweet treats that you'd expect from a bakery. But I was here for bread! They had a great selection with the price list clearly posted above the rack. I was happy to see that there was still lots to chose from. I was worried they might have sold out, with it being the 4th if July weekend. I chose a pumpernickel rye with onion for $3.99, I also grabbed a 6 pack of day old powdered donuts for only $3 off the "check me out/day old rack". I had a 3.5 hour ride home and there was no way I was waiting that long to try the bread- I ripped into it before my husband could even pull out of the parking lot next door (our travel trailer would fit in their parking lot). Wow- it was so good!!! A great pumpernickel flavor with tons of onion all throughout. It was exactly what I wanted! The kids loved their donuts, and to be honest you wouldn't even have known they were day old- they were still very fresh and soft. 5 Stars for items I got in the bakery, for the quality and friendly service of the employee. I highly recommend and will stop again next time I'm in the area. read more

Horrible! Serving us for 40 years?? Yeah, it's not the same place as 20 years ago. This place use to be AMAZING! They had the best donuts and food.. it was a few times a week normal for my family. Unfortunately, since the mother that ran it passed.. this place SUCKS! Just yesterday (after several years of giving up hope on this place), we returned and spent $30 on donuts. The bakery assured the donuts were made that morning .. STALE, HARD, DISGUSTING. So disappointed. First off, don't lie and sell old goods. Secondly, if you do.. that's fine.. but warn your customer and markdown the price. We won't ever be back unless this place gets a new owner. Really sad that this was one of the best places in town, and now it's one of the worst.. it's a tie between this place and G's pizza next door. AWFUL. read more

The owner of this place obviously has no interest in the customers perception. First thing you see is a sign posted on the front door that reads no outside beverages/food. Really? Absolutely no substitutions I'm told by the waitress. Walk to counter and pay and they have a list of folks first and last name that are on their bad check list.( As a customer why would I want to see this?) Oh wait one more sign at the pastry counter, your not allowed to purchase and take into the dining area. you must purchase on your way out. One of my regular hangouts when I'm "Up North". Now only open 6AM to 2PM, it's best for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Really like the kitschy ambiance, the souvenir plates lined up around the wall, and the yummy smelling bakery. The coffee is served to you in a small insulated carafe, so you can pour your own 2-3 cups without waiting for refills. Food is decent, and for "Up North", honest. The usual eggs, bacon and sandwiches, but at least it's fresh. They have a "Dough God" - their play on the breakfast sandwich. You need to eat it with fork and knife. But, it's kinda heavy. Love their biscuits with the honey - always ask for them! The baked goods I stay away from - for health reasons. They look great, but they tend to be rather bland. read more

Decent food, great service. Nothing special about the place. Cool casual place for breakfast able to accommodate big groups. I judge a breakfast joint on a couple of things, 1. Good coffee - pretty good, 2. Staple breakfast item - I chose Biscuits and Gravy - good gravy decent biscuits 3. Bread selection - Excellent. Had breakfast here. The food was nothing special. The only butter type product that was already on the table was a fake spread that has hydrogenated oil for a base. That is an absolute no way, and I wonder how long those items have been sitting on the table. They only offer American fries with the omelet and the ones I received had a big piece of burned bacon included. As for baked goods...doughnuts...blah....cream cheese muffin..tasty. The waitress ignored us as much as she possibly could. The man at the cash register was pleasant. The picture that someone else has posted (in 2010) with the names of people who wrote bad checks is still there. Some of the names have been crossed off so apparently it is updated at times. another one for the "up north" crowd. we strolled in on july 4th at 1pm, and they closed at 2pm... so i'll give them a bit of leeway for that one. the waitresses were a little bummed out about being there (which was obvious on july 4th) but they still put on a smile and the service was good. as far as "up north" (there's that stupid lingo again) goes, it's pretty good food really. i started with the clam chowder, which i always try anytime i go to a restaurant and it's the special... it was very blah. too many potatoes, not enough clam, and a very blah mix altogether. i ate like 4 bites. the coleslaw was also not very good, but i don't usually care for cole slaw... something about mixing lettuce and carrots and some other stuff that looks leftover from the salad bar together with mayo... not tempting to me. i had the reuben and my g-f had the monte cristo. they buy their corned beef from eastern market and all of their other meats from a local farmer up their way... props for that. i could definitely tell the meat in my sandwich had only traveled the 200 miles or so to detroit (as opposed to the standard 1500 it usually goes) and there was a nice, heaping pile of sauerkraut... very fresh... on the reuben. g-f liked her monte cristo, and it looked gooood. if you're ever heading up to alpena, it's right on US23 as you head thru oscoda. there's a bakery there too, and the donuts and bread looked really good. very reasonably priced as well. read more

Surprised at how far this place has fallen. It's dirty. Service was not good - no accommodation for special requests. 9 of us had breakfast. Food was generally cold. Potatoes were uncooked. Eggs not prepared per order for two of us (they almost refused to replace them). We spoke with manager and he had no interest in feedback that was given in a very positive way. I work at the Bavarian Bakery & Restaruant and can say that it is not DIRTY. Us girls work hard to keep it clean! AS far as the service goes, if others are coming from another restaurant in town saying that they either did not get waited on after 15-20 minutes (let alone even being greeted and left) or were sick the next dayn this must say something! I think we are doing something right. I am proud to say that I work there and just because you may not be able to always have it your way (like Burger King) do not blast our good food and good servce. WE come around and check on our tables quite often, if you choose not to complain until your bill is delivered than don't complain at all. read more

Luke warm nasty coffee, toast black/burned around crusts, omelet and potatoes luke warm although only 1 other table in dining room. I have learned from past visits not to question the food here, it is not answered in a positive light, and you are basically told that you are wrong.
