While I usually go to Star of India (forever love the owner there too he gives us free ice cream) , I've been craving something spicier - beyond the mild spice levels common in Arkansas and most of the south haha. This place delivered exactly what I was looking for. They didn't hold back on the heat, but what impressed me even more was the incredible depth of flavor in every bite, not hidden by the heat. When I sat down at this restaurant, I was offered an explanation of the terms on the menu. I'm guessing a lot of people aren't familiar with them, but if you are such a person and you take a chance I think you'll be pleased. For my part, I know what a dosa is (a lentil-based savory crepe) and I was quite happy when mine appeared with a bit of spicy paste on the inside and a variety of sides for dipping. The chickpeas and fried bread I ordered were a mismatch; it's always hard to get these portions right but those two little breads weren't enough for dipping even half the chickpeas. But the chickpeas had a complex flavor with a bit of chili and a bit of cinnamon among others, so I was quite happy to spoon them down. There were dozens of other dishes, both North and South Indian, which I could have ordered. They were doing mostly takeout business, but it was a nice enough space and had clean bathrooms for a weary traveler. read more

I ordered from this place via DoorDash. I paid $24 for a small bowl of Chicken Tikka Masala that barely had any chicken, two pieces of naan, and a Small cup of Sweet Lassi. What a ripoff! The Tikka Masala (seeing there really wasn't any chicken in it) had good flavor but wouldn't feed a child. The naan was mediocre at best. The sweet lassi was nothing more than a cup of thin yogurt. On top of it all, it took them 3 hours to prepare my order for some reason. Needless to say, I'll never order from here again. read more

Ordered my food and Piad him over the phone. Requested them to keep my food outside their Door step. My food was waiting for me . Muttoj biriyani, egg biriyani amd chili chicken were my orders. This is the third time, either the order was not done right or the quantity was enough for half a person! I'm not sure if the owners have changed since we first started enjoying Bawarchi, but this time the food was sub-par. Actually, it was awful and inedible. Despite asking for "mild" on all dishes, they were all so blazing hot and salty, no one at the party could eat or enjoy. The salt? It's like a canister of salt spilled in the dishes. All of the lamb dishes had bones, even the "Boneless Lamb Roast." The Chicken 65 was so dry, you'd choke on it. For $180 order, I expected too much I guess? I wish I could give zero stars. We won't be back, but will instead give business to Taj Mahal Boneless Lamb Roastand Star of India. read more

Fried food to my left and right but everyone is afraid to season anything as if there's a fear of upsetting the masses who have never reached in their spice rack beyond the salt and pepper. I say in no uncertain terms that Dunkin Donuts was easily top 5 best places to eat in all of Little Rock, which sets a low bar. Enter Bawarchi, in an unassuming strip mall, sitting relatively empty. What a shame because the food is genuinely good. Samosas have a wonderful blend of spices and potato, curries are rich and thick. Actual basmati rice. Bawarchi is a blessing in the sea of mediocrity of Little Rock cuisine. My only complaint is that their "spice level" is tailored to the locals, and even the best dishes can sometimes feel muted. The regular Hyderabadi goat biriyani was not great. At the Bawarchi in San Diego, it was much richer, with fried onions and a deeper flavor. This tasted more like pulao with some packaged spices. Masala Dosa was excellent in taste, perfect texture (crispy on outside and soft inside) and presentation. The idlis were super disappointing, just like plain boiled rice rava. No sour flavor at all. Why not just use the dosa batter to make idlis, I wonder. That would be so much tastier. These were not real idlis. Service was excellent and very friendly. read more

In this covid era, we've developed the habit of going to Bawarchi for, often, a Friday evening takeout. The price is reasonable for restaurant food and they give you a lot. Dinner with leftovers for a couple of lunches. Btw "biryani" is rice with something mixed in. Not sure if the management changed... This restaurant is not what I saw before or during pandemic. The North Indian guy at the counter... He sucks.. He doesn't know how to handle a customer... This is the third time I am having a very bad experience with him... He simply keeps an answer in his back pocket saying restaurant is busy so unable handle my order properly.... He brings main course first and 10 mins later he brings appetizers and If I ask the reason... He simply says he don't know... He himself took my order and blames he don't know... This is just one example out of three ... Not sure if management takes this as serious... If I were you I should have moved him to back if not fire him.... read more

Wide range of vegetarian/vegan options (obviously not unusual for an Indian restaurant, but still worth noting) -however, service was slightly delayed and frazzled- we didn't receive our appetizers until after our dinner, and I received my food a good while before my partner did, though neither of us waited an egregious amount of time. We love the diversity of restaurants in this neighborhood, now called West Village. BAwarchi Biryanis fits right in with well prepared and very tasty food. We have ordered from here a few times now but the only time it was good food was the first time in the last 2 months. The last time we ordered Indian Chinese from them which had no taste and very less meat. And then I ordered last night and I have been sick ever since! My dad got the chicken biryani which had 2 pieces of bbq chicken and no spices or taste in the biryani. Biryani usually does not have bbq chicken in it, not sure if they know this! I got "mutton" biryani but ended up with lamb in the dish. I have been sick with an upset stomach since last night. If you don't know the difference between mutton (goat) and lamb then please you guys don't deserve to serve food. I felt like as if they just kinda put something together, perhaps left overs from the night before, re-heated it up, put a couple of pieces of maybe left over bbq chicken in the chicken biryani and maybe left over lamb pieces in my supposedly goat biryani. Never going to order from here again! In fact I am going to report this to the health department tomorrow! DON'T bother ordering from here because they don't know the difference between their meats, the food will make you sick, not to mention they are expensive as well! read more

The Mrs. and I are big fans of Indian food. We have tried every Indian place in Little Rock and were thrilled to see a new one in town. We tried Bawarchi today for lunch and it was fantastic! It was NOT a buffet - finally! Instead they offer Thali and combo style dishes for lunch (which means it comes on a large silver platter). Your main course is in the center surrounded by small bowls of what are basically samples of other dishes.(See pictures, it will make more sense) This is the way to go! You get a large helping of what you love, plus some new deliciousness on the side to try. Unlike the typical buffet, where everything turns out bland, cold and basically all the same our meal was fresh, hot and had lots of bold flavors. I must also say the restaurant is very clean, modern and well appointed. No 70's paneling, stained carpet or peeling paint here. The service was right on point; our waiters explained what every dish was and appeared at our table exactly when we needed him every time. Could not have had a better experience. Definitely our new favorite! We will be back! read more
