Kiki, our 7 year old poodle mix needed a teeth cleaning due to her high amount of tartar. Dr Higgins, was the doctor how examined Kiki and was concerned about the tartar and gingivitis that was occurring. Kiki also has a loose front incisor tooth, that Dr Higgins recommended extracting and to check for any other issues to other teeth. We immediately scheduled the cleaning with the staff at the front desk, who were very friendly and accommodating. They were able to get Kiki in 2 days later to have the procedure, from pre-anesthetic blood panel, to the actual sedation under anesthesia, to the cleaning of all teeth, the extraction of the incisor and one molar. Dr Arakaki performed the surgery and did a fabulous job of keeping us updated on how the procedure went. Madison, the technician was also amazing from when I brought Kiki the morning of the surgery, reviewing everything in detail and as well, when we picked up Kiki. We would like to compliment entire team at Baxter Creek, from the front desk personnel, Madison, Dr Higgins and of course Dr Arakaki. I called at 7:30 in the morning after being awake most the night with my service dog. We are traveling on vacation in Yellowstone when he got a bad ear infection. They fit me in when I called. The staff was amazing and very kind to not only me but my service dog. The vet put my mind at east that the ear infection was not bad and just needed some antibiotics and a ear wash. While it took time out of our vacation we are so blessed to be able be seen so fast. Thanks so much from Dawg and my self. You all are amazing. read more

I have been taking my dog to Baxter Creek Veterinary Clinic for 4 years and feel a strong relationship of trust and understanding between the clinic, myself, and my dog. I always recommended them to anyone seeking a new doctor for their pets. However, I will not be making that recommendation anymore after today. I went in with my mother and her dog, a rescue from a dog fighting circle in the South. After 3 years of dog counseling, behavior therapy, training, and all the love that a creature can have, he bit a friend's hand and broke skin. We had been noticing a drastic shift in his overall behavior the past month and it was worrying-- something was off. Soon after, he grabbed another dog's face and shook it back and forth-- very scary, and unprovoked. Thus began a very difficult discussion that resulted in our decision to put him down. We loved him, but were worried about children, other animals, even adults should he have another episode and no one be there to prevent it. We had our appointment with Dr. Pearson and took the time to explain every detail. We did not feel comfortable rehoming him because of the possibility of another bite, a worse bite. When she denied our request, we were shocked. Stating that it was practice policy, they did not think it was "ethical to put down perfectly healthy animals." Clearly, mental health does not factor into their vision of health at Baxter Creek Veterinary Clinic. Nor does public safety. The conversation felt condescending and judgmental. We will now be changing veterinarians. When pet parents are faced with such a difficult decision, they should be returned with empathy and understanding. I am still baffled by this afternoon; no parent of an animal should go through this. Baxter Creek Veterinary Clinic turned an already extremely, indescribably difficult day into a nightmare. read more

I have been taking my dog to this clinic for 5 years. In that time he has developed 3 immune-mediated diseases including diabetes for which he requires insulin twice a day. I've managed his care for years and he is now an elderly dog in the "comfort care" phase of his life. Any time anything has gone even the littlest bit wrong or he has seemed at all off I've immediately taken him in to be seen. Now the clinic has refused to refill his insulin unless I agree to bring him in for a wellness exam, despite the fact that we were there in the past few months for a GI bug. Asking me to bring my elderly dog in for a "wellness" exam is like asking me to take my 90 year old mother who is on hospice in for a wellness visit. It's an unnecessary trauma that he does not need. He is stable on his regimen, has been for a long time, and I know him better than anyone else. I'm a nurse at a clinic in town and there are no circumstances under which we would refuse to fill a patient's insulin. That Baxter Creek takes this stance, after working with me for five years and knowing that I am an extremely conscientious pet steward, leaves me astounded. Very short sighted as they have now lost not only me and my dogs as clients but others' too, as I have referred to them on many occasions. Not in my old guy's best interests, not compassionate care, and truly unconscionable. read more

I don't think Dr Spencer or doctor Kate are very knowledgeable. I don't trust Dr Spencer or his staff with my animals, nor do i trust the receptionist with pricing. Every time I step in there I feel over charged and underappreciated. I would not go to this but if you want to make sure your animal is a long prosperous life. Awful experience. Very, very expensive with poor care. My fiance and I took our four dogs there for almost five years for their check ups and shots. Then one day when our got really sick they performed a SURGERY that turned out to be UNNECESSARY and still charged a ton of money for it, which we paid in full. Then two months later when our dog got sick again and actually did need surgery in order to live, they refused to accept any kind of payment plan that was not up front and in full, even though we had blown all of our savings (including our wedding fund) on the first unnecessary surgery and we had given them a ton of business over the years. Their solution was put the dog down or put it in a shelter. Unfortunate to find out after five years the kind of business they are. read more

I started going to Baxter Creek when I needed a second opinion on an arthritis diagnosis for my 9 year old black lab, Hollie. I chose Dr. Anderson after reading about his background as a military veteran and a canine acupuncturist. Unfortunately he confirmed my suspicion and diagnosed Hollie with osteosarcoma. During the 4-5 months that she was fighting the cancer, I found him and his team to be incredibly kind, compassionate, and accommodating. As Hollie reached the end of her time I even was able to reach him on his cell phone after hours. He was patient and helpful even late at night on his personal time. When her time came, he displayed the same compassion and empathy and helped my girl leave this world in a peaceful, dignified manner. I'd recommend Dr. Anderson and Baxter Creek to anyone looking for knowledgeable, compassionate care for their pets. read more

Dr. Anderson is one of the most caring, compassionate and knowledgable vets i have ever encountered. i have been to 4 in this area in 13 yrs of living here. i called to get my (dog) seen immediately, never having been to him or this clinic before. without hesitation and their totally full schedule i was told to come in as soon as i could. the night prior to our visit, my dog had been boarded for 4 days at another vet for the weekend. i had been going to that vet for 8 yrs. when i dropped her off i wanted to speak to the vet to ask for blood work. i picked her up, no blood work done and got home, realized her food had never been given to her and she was skin and bones.... although my poor pup already had been dealing with kidney disease for years she was active and doing ok. i called them the morning after i picked her up to find out why her food had never been given to her. no reply by the receptionist. i asked to speak to the vet because my dog had become extremely ill and need immediate care.. i was told, not there and couldn't be reached.... almost 2 hrs later, while at dr. anderson's a call from that vet with no explanation of what happened. a few hours after i brought her to Baxter Creek, i had to make that dreaded decision to put her down...such a difficult situation was handled with such care, compassion and professionalism. everyone that i encountered at Baxter Creek Veterinary Clinic was extremely kind. i just can't say enough about them. just so sorry i had not met them under better circumstances. as horrible as the situation was, it was handled so well. i highly recommend dr. anderson, what a shame there aren't more like him! read more

I have taken my dog Rudy, a cocker spaniel, to DR. Jessica Bienapfl who is amazing. She help Rudy with his ear infection and his skin allergies and help me figure out which brand of dog food I should be feeding him. To help Rudy lose weight since he is over weight. The girls at the front seat are always nice and helpful. Rudy also got a broken nail and they took good care of Rudy. I love this place. I would recommend taking your pet here. read more

Living in the Bozeman, MT area is awesome but when it comes to pet care, I have been less than impressed. I have two Vizslas, three cats and we care for 4 horses. I came across this practice because my Vizsla, Luna Moon, promptly threw up and had bloody you know what two times in the middle of the night. Then she stopped eating. NOT good. Mid am on Saturday I started to feel like I should not wait for Monday and called my vet, All West, who are pretty good. They told me they would have a vet call me back ASAP. 1.5 hours later, no call. I called them and they recommended the emergency pet hospital, which has horrible reviews online. I called another vet who seemed to have a good practice, FULL, could not take me. Went online again and did some research and came across Baxter Creek. They were the highest reviewed practice on Google local so I called them. They had Saturday hours and told me to come right in. I am VERY happy I did. Vets around here, from what I have experienced, see animals as animals and are quick to dismiss concerns or label you as a crazy cat lady for asking hard questions. My animals, including the horses we care for, are companions that we appreciate deeply. I got the feeling that Dr. Anderson feels the way I do about animals. I have seen five veterinarians around here since moving to Montana and by far, he is the best one and rivals my awesome vet back in Boston. He did a very through exam on Luna (longest I have had done around here) and gave me a couple of medications for her. He also told me he was around all weekend and to call him if I had any concerns or she took a turn for the worse (You have to understand, the last time we called a vet, they flat out told us it was not worth it to come out and deal with our sick cat on a Sat night, who, 9 hours later, we had to put down.) Dr. Anderson also gave me his opinion on an issue I have had with Luna's eye that was the most through and scientific I have gotten since consulting two other vets on the situation. Six hours later, Luna just ate her first meals in almost 24 hours. Dr. Anderson has just earned a lifelong client! read more

They ran several very expensive tests, and told me to give my cat medication that may or may not help her. They were just "Trying something." Well, I tried my best to medicate my cat but she threw up everything. I called them and tried so hard to communicate what was going on at home with the cat. They ignored me. Meanwhile my cat got worse and worse within a period of days. Every time I tried to call and ask for advice or get her back in to be seen, I was ignored and didn't receive a call back. Until I finally got a call back and one of the vet Techs- Shanna- told me that I was being rude to call so much (which I wouldn't have had to do if someone would have spoken to me!). I gave up on Baxter Creek and transfered my cat to another Vet. My cat died a day later. All of this happened within the course of a week. I blame my cat's death entirely on Dr. Creek and the rude vet tech. Shanna and the staff at Baxter Creek for not taking me or my concerns about my cats health seriously. I had to watch her get worse and worse while they did nothing and refused to communicate with me. They found me and my persistence "annoying." Well, I am willing to be persistent when my cat is dying. I had been a loyal client and referred many new patients to them in the past. No more. In fact, the new Vet I went to were wonderful and had amazing communication. They were shocked at the treatment (or lack thereof) my cat received at Baxter Creek. I was even told that if action had been taken sooner she could have been saved. Baxter Creek did not take me seriously or care enough about my animal to give her quality care. DO NOT GO TO DR. ANDERSON at BAXTER CREEK. If you value communication and quality care then steer. clear. read more

Wow!! New customer. I have an older dog with diabetes. I was skeptical in taking my girl to a new vet after 10 years but I'm sooo glad I went here. What professional comfortable and respectable customer service. They were so understanding on how I felt about my dog plus the vet there called me herself twice to make sure I understood what to do with my pets needs. I'm so thankful for such a great place!!! I've been taking my dogs to Baxter Creek since they first opened and have had Dr. Anderson be there when three of my dogs had to be put down. Each time, his compassion and understanding were beyond measure.
