WE LOVE BAXTER'S K9 COMPLEX! Call them and try it for free, that's what we did! Baxter's K9 Complex is the best place around. They have treated my dog like a family member. Then staff knows each dog and they treat each dog individually because they are all different. They love your dog, they watch them, and they take the best care of your dog everyday. The staff are the same people all the time and they all love dogs and it shows. My dog wants to go and will pull me in the door. That says a lot! He goes to daycare, gets a bath and brushing and teeth brushing, he also boards when needed. We have been going to Baxter's for over a year. We have an 1 1/2 year old Aussie and we also have a 17 year old fragile little Shitzu poodle and both are taken care of perfectly. I can't recommend Baxter's enough and all the reason above are why! They are amazing and they are affordable too! NOTE: This was OUR experience with other places ..... I took my dog to a big place for daycare and boarding , and also a chain place for day care. What I found out was that my dog wasn't getting to play and was being put in a kennel most of the day and no one was telling me at the big place. At the chain place he was just a number, staff was ever changing and not as personable and I wasn't getting the vibe I wanted there. Anyway, I was needing to go out of town and called Baxter's they listen to me on the phone, we took him for a free daycare day and then boarded him. They took excellent care of my dog and treated him like family and we have been going ever since. I hope this helps anyone looking for great care of their dog. I recently had my first baby and we boarded our pup at Baxter's. We have been using their services for over a year now so we knew our doggy would be comfortable. After delivering my sweet baby I had some complications that kept us in the hospital longer than planned. We called up and talked to the staff and they were more than accommodating. They totally understood that something came up and it was not an issue that our pup stayed longer than planned. It was a life saver knowing that he was somewhere safe and cared for so I could focus on getting healthy and taking care of my baby. I would recommend them to anyone. We also did training up at Baxter's and it made the WORLD of a difference for or dog. I have called asking advice about how to manage certain behaviors our dog was having. They are quick to respond and beyond helpful. They really stepped up when we needed them. read more

I was in town visiting my daughter over Labor Day weekend and wanted my dog who was traveling with me to have some time away from her kitten. I called earlier in the week and booked day care for Saturday and Sunday and booked my golden retriever's temperament test for Saturday am. they called me just an hour after drop off stating he passed and would spend the day with the big dogs. Each day I picked him up he was happy and so tired from a great day of play! The facility was clean and the dogs all looked happy and well taken care of. I will definitely use Baxters during future visits! It is a great home away from home for us. read more

Thank you Baxter's for addressing our concerns! ******************Original post below*************** I don't normally do this, but I am really disappointed with our dog's recent stay at Baxter's K-9 complex. Before I complain, let me start by saying that every employee that I came in contact with at Baxter's was pleasant and attentive to me when I came in to drop off and pick up. That being said, the rest of the experience was somewhat disappointing. This is the first time we have boarded our dog at Baxter's. We took him in for a temperament test prior to our stay and everything went fine according to staff. The day of our trip, we dropped him off with his food, blanket, bone, etc. Things went fine when we dropped him off. We left town for vacation and we're gone for 8 days. While we were out of town, I called to check on him twice. All reports from staff were "He's great! He doesn't even realize you're gone!" Upon our return, the only item of concern for staff was that he had torn up his blanket. We paid our bill, and took home our baby. Once we got him home, we bathed him. In looking over him, we found scratches to his head and belly. We also noticed that he appeared to have lost a significant amount of weight. As 4 or 5 days went by and we waited for his personality to return, he became more and more lethargic. We noticed he was hesitant to urinate. Finally, he began to have a puss-like discharge from his penis. We took him to the vet this afternoon and the vet found trauma to his penis that is now infected. The vet also confirmed he lost 10 lbs!!! It's obvious to me that someone was not watching him closely enough and he was attacked by another dog. I don't understand why this wasn't reported to me when I picked him up! I just paid a $131 vet bill and my . Next time I leave town, I will take him somewhere else. The next place might be more pricey, but I will be more confident my dog won't come home sick and injured! read more

Do not board your pets with them. All of their bull about being able to bring treats and toys. My poor girl was so strung out and bored that she was hurting herself in the kennel. No one contacted me that there was an issue and she had no way to alleviate the stress. She wasn't given a single one of her treats/chews or any of her toys. They did nothing to prevent herself from hurting herself further after she started rubbing her face on the bars. She has abrasions under her chin around her nose and she ripped her due claw off. The training was absolutely not worth the money. My dog was definitely not improved and less stressed out/anxious prior to their training. She still has scars around her muzzle which they tell me is from being crated. I've had her kenneled/boarded before and never had this issue with her. Similar to other reviewers' experiences, it's impossible to get any kind of follow up from Tony. In response to the below email - my dog was in fact trained at this specific location by Tony Lampert, who has a dog named Baxter. Any relation, Nancy Lampert? In St. Louis for the weekend. It was raining and dogs weren't at the public dog park. So, I found an indoor dog park. Unfortunately it was Sunday. On Sundays, they don't have a trainer to evaluate the dog so, I wasted a drive out to the suburbs for nothing. I don't see how you can have dogs in the place, but not have anyone who can evaluate them. I never understand businesses turning away customers. read more

This was the first time that we've left our dog at any kennel. What a great experience, from check-in to pick-up after an 8 day stay, she was so happy to see us and seemed to have a great time there. The staff are so happy and helpful, this was certainly the best decision for us leaving Maggie here at Baxter's. We will definitely be using them each time we go out of town....like leaving a family member with a family member. read more

We have been taking our boxer to Baxter's for several years now. We LOVE them! Marley always gets excited when we pull up to Baxter's and comes home exhausted from all the play time with other dogs. We generally take her for doggie day care once every few weeks, but we have boarded her here as well. Marley used to be skeptical about other dogs and didn't always "play nice". After all the time that she's spent at Baxter's, she's really developed her socialization skills with other dogs. The staff at Baxter's is always friendly and welcoming. I'm always amazed that no matter who is working the front desk, they know Marley by name. These folks see A LOT of dogs every week, so it means a lot that they take the time to get to know each one. It's a good feeling to know that your dog is in good hands at Baxter's!! read more

We took our German Shepard here when he was a baby and purchased the puppy classes and one on one dog training! Our experience has been great. We see a HUGE difference in the behavior and obedience of our dog. The owner, Tony, is great. He really knows what he is talking about and works with our dog in a way we can follow and copy at home. He is also available any time for any questions or concerns we may have. Training works, definitely worth every penny! read more

The saddest day of my life was the day I received the call from Baxter K9 that my chihuahua had been attacked by a German Shepard during play time. How could a caregiver ever think it was okay to allow a 6lb dog to be in the play area with a 60lb dog unsupervised??? He had his leg broken in 5 places and required extensive surgery and therapy for months after the injury. Baxter K9 assumed no liability and claimed they would file bankruptcy if they would have to pay for his medical bills (5k+) and I would need to file a lawsuit against them. PLEASE don't ever bring your pets here if you care about them because these people do not care about the safety of our loved ones. This happened in October of 2015 but the owner had promised to take care of the medical bills but after a year of requesting payment he never paid and stopped responding.****Since you decided to make another fake response to a compliant I would love to know how you don't believe you are responsible for my dog in your care?? So....the girl on the phone who called me and told me my dog had been attacked was lying? The hospital you brought him to was lying? The surgery and his broken bones are a lie? The medical bills I had to pay are a lie? The reason I waited to post was because I honestly thought you were going to care of the medical bills that Tony promised to pay. I would have taken you to court if I lived in STL but it's not worth my time to fly back to file a lawsuit. However, I know that I would win because of your negligence with my dog. read more

I've been taking my two dogs to Baxters for over a year now, and their team is the best! They always greet me with a smile and their customer service is excellent. We were camping in St. Charles and we needed a place to drop Lizzie, our beagle mix, while we rode our bikes on the Katy Trail. Lizzie has never been in Doggie Daycare before, and the staff at Baxter's was so accommodating and sweet! We had hoped that Lizzie would be able to socialize with other dogs, but unfortunately the staff made the determination that she was much too timid and they decided to keep her isolated from the other pups. We were disappointed, but we definitely appreciated them making sure she was safe and taken care of. Of course, Lizzie didn't mind having some personal attention either! All in all, it was a great experience for Lizzie and for us! If we come through the area again we will leave our dog here again. read more

Wish I could give this place zero stars. We boarded our dog here for 5 days. We drove 45 minutes to get here, because we wanted her to have playtime and were happy about the "dog park." I use quotations because it's pretty pathetic. When we picked her up, the girl working (the only one there, and she was sitting behind the counter, NOT watching the dogs) said our puppy had "gotten excited and was starting to get a little hoarse when she barked." Apparently by hoarse, she meant she had kennel cough (yes, she has been vaccinated). Gee, thanks for the honesty. She also had pink eye AND a rash on her inner thigh, both were not there when we left. Overpaid for the stay and now we have to pay for a vet visit. Seems like they really don't give a hoot about the dogs there. Thanks for nothing. UPDATE: Her vet visit cost as much as a 5 day stay at this place. Needless to say, our pup won't be back. read more

I bring my 2 very rowdy dogs here about twice a week so they don't drive me crazy. They get so excited when we get out of the car and can't wait to get inside and play. When they come home, they sleep all night and the next day because they are so worn out. It's a great solution for those of us who don't have a fenced in yard, or are uneasy about leaving the dog(s) home alone for a long time. I know they will be well cared for when I leave them in the morning. The staff is friendly and helpful. They sell some dog supplies but are more focused on the dogs than sales. The dog evaluation consists of a test with your dog and another dog, just to be sure your dog isn't aggressive. It took them 5 minutes to do the evaluations on both my dogs - not a big deal. The screening process makes me feel better about leaving my dogs. I highly recommend this business. read more

My dog was neglected for 10 days. When I picked him up on 9/4 he was covered in urine. He was weak beyond the usual lethargy after being boarded. I suspect he was sedated. When his vet reopened on Tuesday 9/6 I took him in. he had lost 5 pounds equaling 20% of his body weight. He had contact dermatitis on his chest and belly. He had dermatitis between his toes all from prolonged exposure to urine. We reached out to the owner. That went nowhere.it took us 48 hours to get her to call us back. She refused to accept accountability and was very hostile. Please , research Baxters better than I did. Start by doing a Google search on sit means sit, and the owners and employees of that business. For the love of your dog stay away from Baxters. read more

Sadly I will no longer be bringing my dog here. She has been going to Baxters for about 8 months, and we've heard a lot of sketchy reviews on the place. But it's cheap and 2 minutes from our house, so we bit our tongue and just sucked it up. Our 1 year old border collie seems to love it there, but sadly an incident happened in which I am not too happy about. I bring her there every once in awhile to burn energy off, or to leave her there while I'm at work. She's a border collie, she has a LOT of energy built up. Unfortunately when I picked her up last week she stuck so bad I couldn't even breath while she was riding home in my car. I know dog parks smell, I get that....I use to work at one. But this was not a dog smell. This was urine. When I got her out of the car, I realized she was soaking wet. All on her tummy, her tail, and all her legs. I bent down to smell her and it REEKED of urine. My dog is trained...VERY well. She knows better than to pee where she's not suppose to. I immediately knew what happened, but kind of let it go thinking it was just a fluke, things happen, whatever. But then the more I talked to people about it, the more I find out this happens to A LOT of dogs there. Dogs being crated all day when they take in too many dogs that they can't handle. Which they do....they don't require appointments for daycare, they just have people show up. So 10 dogs might be there, 300 dogs might be there. They don't care. That's a big no-no. Which then led me to believe I was right about what happened. My poor dog, who knows better than to pee where shes not suppose to, was forced to stay in a crate, pee there, and lay in it. I felt disgusted and sick. I pay people to play with my dog, not to crate them. I can do that at home. I realize there are "nap times", like I said, I use to work at a kennel, but this was not "nap time". She would have held it in if that was the case. I, for one, am very VERY upset and will not be bringing her back, especially after speaking with a couple past customers of theirs, as well as a past employee, who reassured me, that is indeed what goes on there. My second red flag, and I should have said no from the get go, was the fact that they refused to give me a tour of the place the first time I brought my dog in there. RED FLAG! The place isn't very well kept, and is not very "inviting" by any means. I just wanted to see where my dog would be playing and sleeping, since I am trusting them with my dogs life. But they couldn't offer me that, the girl simply told me "we actually don't give tours here, for the dogs safety". Ok? What does that even mean? I worked at a kennel, you let the owners see the environment. Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer but I hope everyone realizes what actually goes on here. It's sad. read more

We left our dog for boarding on a Wednesday afternoon, planning to gone until Monday. This is an 11 lb dog that never barks or has ever been in any sort of altercation with another animal. On sunday we received a call from the kennel stating that our little dog had been attacked by a "medium sized dog". He was taken to a vet, and then to an emergency Vet Clinic. They reported he was in shock, had close to 15 puncture wounds around his throat, ear, and shoulders. X-rays showed possible fractures of the left scapula (shoulder) and he wasn't putting any weight on it. We picked him up from the hospital on Monday evening and wanted to cry because he was so out of it. Even though the facility is picking up all the bills, and they said the other dog will never be allowed around other dogs because of aggression, we will NEVER again use this facility. read more

If you are looking for an amazing and professional dog trainer, look no further than Sit Means Sit. My family and I had tried and several trainers in the St. Louis area to help us with major behavior issues we were having with our two male Great Danes, including 2 significant fights that occurred resulting in significant injuries to both dogs. The previous training attempts were less than successful. I contacted Brad at Sit Means Sit as a last resort for help. In our initial meeting, he took the time to talk with me about my concerns, spent time actually interacting with my dog, and worked hard to identify a plan that would provide us with the best outcome for our dogs and our family. We met his dog Brave and saw the possible benefits of the type of training used at Sit Means Sit. We were cautiously optimistic that this might be the help we were looking for. We are now about 6 weeks into our training and WOW! WHAT A DIFFERENCE! While we still have a lot of work to do, the behavior issues have improved significantly. I know that the trainers and the rest of the staff will work as a team with us to continue to help us get our dogs back together and to reinforce what we've learned. We have had an in home visit which helped identify some additional issues that wouldn't have been able to be seen in training at the facility. We will be attending group classes as well to continue to add to our training. Dog training is never a quick fix and for situations like ours, it isn't easy. The key is to find amazing people like those at Sit Means Sit who become truly invested in your dogs, your family and their training. I would recommend Sit Means Sit to ANYONE who needs training.... From basic puppy training to more complex training like ours. Don't give up on your dog. Call Sit Means Sit and give them a chance to help! read more

Never actually got to use them. The first time I called them I gave them all my information and I thought I had a reservation for boarding my dogs, but when I called them back a few days before my trip to ask a question, they said they had no record of my reservation. I scrambled and found another place. I decided to give them another chance a few months later, and I brought my two dogs in for a temperament test in advance of my planned trip. After waiting for a while, the young lady behind the counter brought my two dogs back into the kennel area, one at a time. In each case, they were back there less than five minutes and then she came out and said they failed the temperament test, because they had growled at other dogs. My dogs are very friendly and I take them to the dog park regularly, and they have done fine at other kennels, and neither of them has ever bit or hurt anyone. I think it is natural for a dog to be a little nervous when a stranger leads them back into a strange place with a bunch of stressed-out dogs in confinement barking at them (obviously, there was a lot of stress barking going on, which I could hear from the lobby). I feel like in this case, the staff simply didn't have any time or patience to introduce them to the environment properly. Anyway, I was told they could still stay there but they could not be with the other dogs. I decided that for these prices it was not worth it for them to just stay in a crate all day. Baxter's website touts the socializing benefits of boarding dogs there, but I don't think they have the staff or patience to really work with the dogs properly. There were a few dogs in the "indoor play yard" (visible from the lobby) when I was there, but they seemed to be mostly small dogs and older dogs who were very sedate, not really playing and with no human supervision. One of them looked like he was dying (old and weak looking, skin and bones) and kept going potty on the floor. I think they just select the minority of dogs that they know are going to be calm for "play" and just keep the others penned up. read more

I bring our two dogs here about once a week for the indoor dog park and I have not had any issues at all. They both gets very excited when we walk though the doors and usually spend the rest of the night into the following day sleeping it off. As another yelper said, it's nice to be able to give my dogs the work out when we do not had a fenced in back yard. They remember our dogs names, are very friendly, and the price is great. read more

I went in to check out the indoor dog park and to my disappointment there is NO INDOOR DOG PARK for those wanting to go in and watch their dog. It is ONLY FOR THOSE WHO PAY FOR DOGGY DAY CAMP. There is no place to sit and relax with free wifi and TV like their website says. When I asked the girl about the website she said it was the website programers fault and they're trying to fix it. Well, why is there a sign on the front of their building advertising an indoor dog park as well? Complete false advertising on both their building and their website.
