This organization is amazing. They are super thorough with the interview process and thoughtful and careful on matching dogs to people. Toni is wonderful! I fostered, then adopted. The communication and support throughout was incredible. Our German Shepherd saved us :)

We've been up there for trainings for our Dog. My wife and I live in the East Bay but we've been…read morewilling to travel up to Sonoma for trainings because we've really enjoyed the different service dog trainings, especially the ones offered by Brian Gallindo. We've done two different classes and our dog has enjoyed them. The place is a very nice, new and well-done facility in Healdsburg. It's easy to find via Google Maps and there's a plenty of space to walk and train dogs. We've never tried their pet adoption operations but when we're there it seems to be a pretty good environment.

We adopted our dog there and Gabe is one of the most caring, knowledgeable and kind professionals that I've met. His first priority is the wellbeing of the animals in their charge. He is worth his weight in gold and a wonderful source of animal behavioral knowledge. Secondly, our cat disappeared in May of 2017 and after doing everything we could to find him, we feared the worst. Months went by and we relocated from Sonoma County to the Central Coast. We were shocked to receive a call from Gabe, letting us know that our cat was found, and he was able to locate us thanks to a microchip. FOLKS, MICROCHIPS WORK! But remember to always have your information current! Because we live much farther away, the staff, and especially Alison the AMAZING Shelter Director were all very accommodating and patient about us getting to Healdsburg to retrieve him, because it fell on a Holiday weekend. In the meantime they kept communication ongoing, and because our cat was underweight, they were especially concerned for his health and did everything they could to find something palatable to help him eat. Our kitty is now home and thriving again. Healdsburg is SO fortunate to have such a beautiful afacility and such a caring staff for the local animal population!

Coconut (May before I got her) lived a rough life before HARA took her in. I completely disagree with the comment from another reviewer 3 months ago. They are responsible, understanding, caring, and just a pleasure to work with. They give you plenty of information about the pets that are up for adoption and they guide you through the adoption process in the most professional and courteous manner. I particularly liked the fact that they allow you to "return" the dog if for whatever reason the "fit" is not right. We initially wanted to adopt a dog through them... then we changed our minds and decided to try fostering first, since we have never owned a dog before. The two we fostered came from Taiwan. The first was adopted out immediately - she was a beautiful black lab puppy. We were heartbroken to see her leave so soon. The other one just grew on us immediately and we decided to keep him for good. Someone had discarded him and seven other puppies in a garbage dump; luckily HARA and its contacts in Taiwan were able to rescue him. Both puppies were extremely well behaved and well-adjusted -- we get this feedback constantly from random strangers. We think it is in part because of the excellent care and attention that HARA gave the puppies immediately after the rescue and while they were awaiting being brought to the US. So, if you are considering fostering or adopting -- and especially if you are interested in puppies -- i highly recommend HARA.

Joy had been living with an amazing foster family in Taiwan who clearly invested time and love. She arrived knowing sit and stay, comfortable with people, children, and ready to bond. That foundation made our first weeks smooth and joyful (pun intended). As a parent, I appreciate how Tina knew what's best for the dog and the family. The foster model and careful matching really show. Joy is gentle, eager to learn, and an instant best friend for our household. My daughter Olivia was asked to add her own words: "We found a perfect dog because of ABC. The fosters taught Joy so well with sit and stay! If someone is looking for a forever dog I definitely recommend ABC!! They put the dog in a foster family so they can know what it's like to have a family. The fosters teach regular English commands like sit & stay (they are awesome at that!). ABC is awesome!!" Thank you, Tina @ ABC, for the love and structure you pour into rescue. The folks there really know their stuff--they asked us all about our home life to ensure it'd be perfect for him. Hachi arrived healthy, vaccinated, and ready to roll. Big thanks--you've changed our lives for the better and literally saved our new pup's life!
