Gail and her staff - and I mean everyone - are fantastic! My wife and I have taken our dogs - now one dog since we brokenheartedly had to put one of our beagles, Mayday, down in August at age 17+ - there for several years. The staff is kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring toward the animals - with the dogs pulling excitedly on their leashes to go INTO the facility, unlike some kennels that we have used over the years. I can only speak personally of their care for canines, but, judging on the care they have always given our dogs, I am certain that their care is equally exceptional with any animals that they are equipped to board. They are our go-to kennel in the Northern Michigan area. To be honest, we have also received very good care from the local Humane Society. I gave them a "5 Star" rating, but that was only because YELP would not permit me to give them "10 Stars"! You can trust any fur buddy with them - and I believe, but am not sure, that they also board birds. read more

We had just moved from Alaska to Northern Michigan , I have 2 small poodles and was in need of a pet sitter to watch our dogs so we could close on our house . They were so overly nice and accepted us for a last minute boarding . Their place was clean and the staff is so friendly. I would recommend them to everyone . This is a terrific place. They take great care of your pet. Our dogs love staying here and the staff is very caring. Our dog had a health concern while he was there (turned out to be lyme's symptoms that he contracted when on a hike with us) and they handled it with great care and communicated very well with us. While vacationing in the Charlevoix/Petoskey area, we have occasionally run out of dog food. You can't find premium kibble just anywhere. We head to Bay Area Pet Resort, and they have been able to hook us up with something decent, if not the exact brand we have been feeding our dog. The brands of kibble they carry seem to change over the years. They have Innova and California Natural. Yes, you are not supposed to switch foods abruptly, so you slowly wean your dog from one to another. We have not used their grooming and boarding services, so I cannot comment on that. read more

We have three dogs and we have always had a wonderful experience when boarding at Bay Area Pet Resort. Our dogs are calm and happy when we pick them up - a sure sign they have received loving care and attention at the resort. Gail is careful about accepting dogs and checks vaccination records prior to boarding a pet. Prices are very fair. read more

We have been taking our dog there for close to 10 years now. They are very accommodating and allow us to drop her off for daycare when needed. Gayle took us on a tour of the facility prior to us boarding to alleviate our anxiety. Our daughter has also boarded her dog there. I think Sabrina may even be starting to like the place! We made reservations for our dog for a two week stay. Before her visit, we toured the facility. Gale took us through each part of the facility...and it was clean and organized. Our dog needed medication and ear treatments while we were gone. The staff there was so accomodating, and all was done as agreed on. We felt our dog had excellent care, and we will certainly board her there again. read more

Our dog Banjo always enjoys Bay Area Pet Resort. Gail and her staff have always taken good care of our Puggle Banjo on his doggie day care visits. All you have to do is say "doggie day care" and he's up and barking to get out the door. read more

I was looking for a boarding place for my dogs and almost did not look at this one because of the 3 star rating. I just happened to click on it and found out that the rating was not for the pet resort, but it was because some pet owned couldn't buy the premium dog food brand that they preferred at this kennel! I could not believe it. I don't think that review should be left online to possibly discourage others from checking out this place. read more
