My family member had ongoing floaters and flashes, which can be warning signs of retinal detachment. We were able to schedule an appointment with Dr. Ding. During the Thursday visit, after reviewing the eye images, he only said that the retina looked just thin and advised us to follow up again in two weeks. He did not explain the cause of the floaters and flashes or provide any meaningful guidance, and the patient was sent home without answers. Because my family member's symptoms kept getting worse, we sought a second opinion from another doctor in San Jose. That doctor diagnosed retinal detachment, and my family member underwent emergency scleral buckle and vitrectomy surgery that same weekend. This was our true experience, and we hope others will be cautious before choosing Dr. Ding. In our view, he failed to identify the cause of the condition, offered no meaningful assistance, and acted unprofessionally.

The waiting room kept filling up and filling up until it spilled out onto chairs set up in the hallway. Dr. Ting did not even show up to the office until 10:30, at which point I assume he checked email, got coffee, etc., because as the very first one to be called in, it was just a few minutes short of 11:00 when he finally called me in. I now go to the other doctors associated with the practice in a different city. When two different doctors asked why I didn't go closer to home to Dr. Ting, they BOTH asked, "Is it because of the wait?" Yes. It's because of the two-hour wait before he bothers to even start the day.

Bay Retina Center has been treating me for the past six months. I had to go for a follow up check up today. Wow I was super impressed. They are taking utmost precautions and following very strict protocols for their patients' safety. There is very very very limited close contact. The outside doors are propped open, and there was no one in the waiting room. Every employee/doctor is careful. You are required to wear a mask in order to be admitted. They take your temperature upon arrival and limit talking . Dr. Lee only talks when he's 6 feet apart from the patient. They constantly sanitize the examination rooms and are being ultra cautious. I haven't felt that safe in a long time. If you are a patient here do not delay seeing them for important follow ups. You will be well taken care of in super sanitized surroundings!

Dr. Alexander Dillon has been treating me for the past several months and the improvements, especially to my night vision are remarkable. I used to not drive at night over the years because it was harder and harder to see. He has brought my eyes close to 20/20 and improved my night vision substantially. I was out and very hesitant last night riving home, but my vision has improved so much its a pleasure. I can see through the gloom.

He was looking at pictures of my retina, I asked if this was from the stroke? He snapped and said we're not talking about that right now! He was raising his voice, and he comes and takes my hand and told me I need to relax! I jerked my hand away. I never raised my voice! He kept raising his, I got up to leave and told him he was condescending and arrogant. I told him I'm here because my left side of my face goes numb and my eye has been affected since the stoke. It was just a simple question because I had concerns! He would not answer me. His assistant had to push him out the door. What a guy!! Ask a question and get yelled at. I guess when you're seeing 70 or 80 patients a day you don't have time to answer questions!! I've never seen a professional person act this way!! Never go see him!!!

I have an eye condition that needed to be seen on an emergency basis, the morning before a three day weekend. I live in the Sierra foothills, but happened to be in Modesto. After several hours and calls to three different practices (including Sutter where my primary doctor is located), I found Advanced Retina Institute. The receptionist immediately understood and validated my medical concern. She was able to get me an appointment to be seen by Dr Chandron in 20 minutes. When I arrived the reception team and technicians were all incredibly kind. With a very busy office, they moved me through the steps toward seeing the doctor with amazing efficiency. Dr Chandron listened to my concern, gave me a thorough exam and talked with me about a plan to address my eye emergency over the weekend. We scheduled a convenient follow up based on my tight schedule the following week. They were incredibly flexible with appointment times. My follow up appointment was equally impressive. I love Dr Chandron's positive, kind, considerate, and proactive approach to eye healthcare. This practice is outstanding! I've decided to move my eye care to Dr Chandron, even though Advanced Retina Institute is an hour and thirty minutes from home.

I was seen by Dr. Judy Chen, who did a good job assessing my retina issues, as far as I can tell. For that I'm most grateful and this is not a negative review of her. The staff at West Coast Retina have treated me the worst way possible when it comes to my records. First, they insisted I could easily access all my records (both images and doctors' notes) through their portal shortly after my visit. That turned out to be completely false - and nobody had the slightest issue with the fact that I had been lied to. Second, they told me the doctor's notes (which do not include images) would be in the portal by the end of last week. When they didn't arrive, a few days ago I again followed up. They said they'd get them soon, like maybe that same day. They would call me. They didn't. Third, for the images they said they'd have to mail them and charge me $30, so I paid that amount. When the images arrived, they did not include the ultrasound image, even though I specifically asked for that image and they specifically said they would send it. Fourth, when I last called to follow up again, they told me I could keep on contacting them. When I asked why they said that (because all I need is my records) they simply said "Ok, you'll get your records." Well, West Coast Retina, here I am AGAIN asking you for my records. I have serious issues with my retina and need expert medical help. I do not need a new medical records problem when other places easily get me this information very quickly with no problems. In the digital age, not only is there no reason for this, this is a deliberate effort to create a problem for me. AGAIN, please promptly send me the records and I will most certainly update this review if/when this issue gets fully resolved.

Get an interpreter instead. Around 2011 or 2012, the optometrist gave my dad a letter to EBRC. I knew this was not a referral, so I contacted his PCP to send the referral. I checked with the PCP office, the referral had been faxed. I called EBRC, and they confirmed they had received it. On the day of his first appointment. They told me that they didn't have the referral. I was worried I had to reschedule and come back on a different date. Fortunately, they told me that my dad's Medicare Supplement Insurance was PPO. That is very helpful information. I can choose a doctor directly and skip the referral process. In short, his right eye was losing vision. I understood that he's not at the early stage, that's no treatment. Once vision is lost, it is lost and is not reversible. But the terrible and misleading part is, Scott Lee told us in Cantonese on every visit, "Don't worry, you won't be blind. 放心,唔會盲" and "no change, it's the same." etc. Since he's a retina specialist, I expected my dad to have macular degeneration. He never told us what his condition was, even though he speaks Cantonese. Dr. Lee was raised in Hong Kong. Until 2018, my dad's PCP told us that he also had retina detachment. I was shocked. The other ridiculous thing is, on his annual visits, Dr. Lee only checks his right eye, one eye only, the bad eye. Even my dad complained his vision was getting worse, and I requested to check his left eye, the good eye. Dr. Lee refused. He said only the right eye. Finally, we switched to Dr Brinton in 2022. He will pay more attention to my dad's left eye, the good eye. On the first visit, he told us my dad also had cataract issue. At that time, I didn't know that term in English. He uses "cloudily" to explain to me, so I understand that it is 白內障. Unfortunately, we did not receive a cataract surgeon referral from EBRC like other Yelp reviewers. His left eye already saw everything red and burly. He can't read at all. 2024, during the family talk. My relative told me that it sounds like my dad has cataract issue. I recalled that EBRC told me that my dad's insurance was PPO. I rushed him to a Cataract surgeon. After his surgery, he resumed his reading ability. I don't know why we had the terrible experience and bad luck with EBRC, because my dad was too old, or we didn't speak English? Here is the difference. The new retina doctor sees my dad twice a year. He told us he also had a dry eye. He gave us instructions on how to preserve his remaining vision.

HOWEVER: Recent visits w/ Kaiser Oakland Eye Dept. surgeons has sent me searching for better options. Kaiser Oakland's cataract surgeon found a "bump" in my retina, so I was referred to their Kaiser Oakland's retina surgeon, who was dismissive and un-helpful. My search for a 2nd opinion led me to WCR which was recommended by a professional whose opinion I respect. At WCR on 30th St. in Oakland, I was examined by Dr. Georgia Kamboj. She was wonderful -- I highly recommend her to anyone w/ retina issues: 1) She explained the layers of the bump in my retina, the bubble, the layer of scar tissue -- something neither Kaiser surgeon --- cataract nor retina -- took the time to do ; 2) she explained the range of outcomes from cataract and subsequent retina surgery --- neither Kaiser surgeon did that; 3) she explained the actual focal distances of the lenses used in cataract surgery. Kaiser just emails you a video reviewing the distance options, but no recommendations, or explanations why. Then, you're left with the responsibility to select which focal length you want installed on your eyeball -- as if the patient has a degree in Optometry. 4) Dr Kamboj also answered my questions about focusing at the different distances post-cataract-op. Kaiser's cataract surgeon never explained the real focal distances -- they just tell you Far, Mid-Range, and Close. Dr Kamboj explained the actual focal distance for the range choices, and answered my questions about how they work (b/c I also have astigmatism) post-cataract surgery-- something Kaiser surgeons never did; 5) Dr Kamboj explained why she prefers doing cataract surgery one eye at a time.....At Kaiser they'll do both at the same time unless you request otherwise. Kaiser Oakland Eye Dept now seems like an inferior quality, high-speed processing facility. I really appreciate Dr Georgia Kamboj's answering my questions, explaining what was going on in my eye, the "whys and wherefores" of the choices, etc. Dr Kamboj was very thorough, very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. When I initially entered their bldg, I was apprehensive b/c the bldg is clean, but quite outdated. The waiting room was also outdated , w/ only "People" magazines avail -- giving me some doubts. However, I had heard excellent appraisals about WCR and after my excellent experience, my doubts were dispelled. Their quality was vastly superior to Kaiser Oakland's Eye Dept. I now check cataract and retina surgeons' credentials online before scheduling an app't. Dr. Georgia Kamboj's credentials exceeded those of the retina surgeon I saw at Kaiser Oakland.
