Great doctors, helpful staff, convenient locations. Walnut Creek is where I go , usually not more than a 10 min wait.

Bay Retina Center has been treating me for the past six months. I had to go for a follow up check up today. Wow I was super impressed. They are taking utmost precautions and following very strict protocols for their patients' safety. There is very very very limited close contact. The outside doors are propped open, and there was no one in the waiting room. Every employee/doctor is careful. You are required to wear a mask in order to be admitted. They take your temperature upon arrival and limit talking . Dr. Lee only talks when he's 6 feet apart from the patient. They constantly sanitize the examination rooms and are being ultra cautious. I haven't felt that safe in a long time. If you are a patient here do not delay seeing them for important follow ups. You will be well taken care of in super sanitized surroundings!

I was seen by Dr. Judy Chen, who did a good job assessing my retina issues, as far as I can tell. For that I'm most grateful and this is not a negative review of her. The staff at West Coast Retina have treated me the worst way possible when it comes to my records. First, they insisted I could easily access all my records (both images and doctors' notes) through their portal shortly after my visit. That turned out to be completely false - and nobody had the slightest issue with the fact that I had been lied to. Second, they told me the doctor's notes (which do not include images) would be in the portal by the end of last week. When they didn't arrive, a few days ago I again followed up. They said they'd get them soon, like maybe that same day. They would call me. They didn't. Third, for the images they said they'd have to mail them and charge me $30, so I paid that amount. When the images arrived, they did not include the ultrasound image, even though I specifically asked for that image and they specifically said they would send it. Fourth, when I last called to follow up again, they told me I could keep on contacting them. When I asked why they said that (because all I need is my records) they simply said "Ok, you'll get your records." Well, West Coast Retina, here I am AGAIN asking you for my records. I have serious issues with my retina and need expert medical help. I do not need a new medical records problem when other places easily get me this information very quickly with no problems. In the digital age, not only is there no reason for this, this is a deliberate effort to create a problem for me. AGAIN, please promptly send me the records and I will most certainly update this review if/when this issue gets fully resolved.

He was already running late, it was 3:45 when I overheard him. When he finally got to my appointment it was 3:55, now he's rushed. He dilated my eyes then proceed to give me an eye exam. I knew that was incorrec since my vision was blurred from the dilation. I called them back a few weeks later and explained what happened with Dr. Meng, they scheduled another appointment with a different Dr. to double check my vision prescription. Sure enough there's a big different. Furthermore, I was charged for both appointments. When I left the office they schedule a one year follow up. A few days afterward, I called the office and canceled the appointment since I no longer trust their provider's care. Fast forward a year later, I get a call from their office to remind me of my upcoming appointment which I canceled a year ago. I missed their call and they left me a voice mail, I picked up the voice mail within seconds after missing their call and called them back, 15mins prior to closing and the incoming calls were directed to their voice mail, I get it it's Friday. I left a message explaining the appointment was canceled and request for a call back to confirm. Monday morning I called to ensure they cancel my appointment. The first time I called they informed me two calls were ahead of me and put me on hold after ten mins. I hung up. I called back several times during the day and their voice mail indicated they were busy and directed calls to call their other locations if it's an emergency. I realise cancelation is not an emergency, but I do not trust in their care/services and charge me for late cancelation. I called their other locations which directed me to an answering service. I finally called the WC location again this afternoon and left yet another message to cancel my appointment. Please do your own research for a provider that cares about your health. In the Walnut Creek area there are lots of options.

Our employee arrived for his scheduled appointment today, but his necessary translator did not arrive. Instead of providing the customer support we needed, she claimed there was no one available in the entire building who spoke Spanish. Throughout the call, she refused to let me get a word in. When I politely asked for her supervisor's name, she completely bypassed my question and hung up on me, refusing to provide any management contact information. I called back immediately and was connected with Brandy, who was very kind, professional, and helpful. She was able to provide the name of the supervisor, Denise Kurt. There were no updates, no explanation, and no apology from the staff or the physician. When I mentioned--calmly--that my mother's time should be respected and that appointments should begin reasonably close to their scheduled time, Dr Gilbert replied: "Well, sometimes it works that way and sometimes it doesn't." That statement, paired with a complete lack of acknowledgment for the delay, was unacceptable. It reflected a dismissive attitude toward patient time and basic professionalism. I remained polite and civil throughout the interaction, but left with the impression that punctuality and patient communication are simply not valued here. If you expect respect, accountability, or even a simple apology for excessive wait times, I would advise seeking care elsewhere.
