I cannot recommend Dr. Lim highly enough!!! 17 thumbs up!!! She is a miracle worker. I was the biggest scaredy cat about getting my cataract surgery done. I have been wearing glasses since the third grade and I am extremely near-sighted. One of my biggest fears is losing my sight. Dr. Lim made me feel extremely confident about getting the surgery. She explained the surgery in detail and she offered excellent advice about the right type of cataract lenses for me. The surgery itself was extremely quick and painless. I felt like I was at a Laserium show at a planetarium and not in an operating room. There are a number of follow-up appointments scheduled for the day and week after surgery. Both Dr. Chan and Dr. Zhang were caring, knowledgeable, and friendly at these follow-up appointments. The Walnut Creek office staff is also wonderful, friendly, and efficient. Being the nervous Nelly that I am, I did call them more than a few times with my worries. I am now seeing 20/15 out of my distance eye. I can read 4 point type out of my reading eye. I feel I should be on a lecture tour, wearing a Super Hero cape to match my new bionic eyes, touting the wonders of cataract surgery with Dr. Lim. The only regret I have is enduring blurry and dimming vision for a year because I put off my cataract surgery because I was so scared. Mira Lim performed miraculous cataract surgery on my eyes in '21-22. She also corrected an astigmatism in my right eye. She is a one in a million genius eye surgeon with a manner so unassuming and a hand that is so calm and self assured, you pray that she is there whenever you go under the knife. Period! Her specialty is corneal implants. She loves what she does and she loves to give the miracle of perfect sight to her patients. I'm 77 now and one day after the surgeries my eyes tested 20/20 & 20/24. Three year later they still test the same. I'm so grateful to her! It is not surprising to me that she worked with Dr Vastine, the Errol Flynn of eye surgeons. She is quite simply - Excellent." She was not wrong about this assessment. Dr. Mira Lim is optimally effective, knowledgeable, and talented. As a highly skilled ophthalmologist and precise eye surgeon, Dr. Lim is extremely efficient at treating any (mild-to-serious) eye disorders with an unmatched level of competence, calm, and professionalism. She is a patient, well-humored individual who truly reflects a deep passion for eye care and invested interest in patient well-being. Encounters with Dr. Lim and her practice are always on-point, on-time, and a true pleasure to behold. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this practice and would absolutely refer friends/family to seek her in a heartbeat. After coming out of my conjunctiva nevus excision (for precancerous tissue) and AMT corneal reconstructive surgery, my current eye health and disposition could not be better. Since I was partially conscious during the procedure (i.e. I fought very hard to stay awake), Dr. Lim calmed me down and talked me throughout the surgery step-by-step. Her movements were steady, decisive, accurate, and painless. We were done a few hours ahead of schedule - The actual operation probably lasted ~ 20 - 25 minutes. I was able to use that eye the same day just a few hours after the procedure. It's been only a week post-operation, and I'm glad to report that it is healing quickly and *very neatly*. Actually (not to gross anyone out), but if you look at it closely, you can faintly see where the tissue was excised and grafted - The excision lines are incredibly clean, symmetrical, consistent, and fading with each passing day as the eye heals. Tissue reconstruction and surgery (especially for something delicate as the eye) is both a science and art form. Dr. Mira Lim has clearly perfected both. She is the real deal. I wish I could give her and her office a negative rating. We don't think she is exceptional regarding her medical skills. Based on her working with us and the fact that she brushed us off with a fake lab test prescription, we don't think one should trust her or her office with one's delicate eyes. My mom was referred to Dr. Mira Lim from UC Berkeley eye center this Monday (2019-11-04) because my mom's eyes got red and blur suddenly on Saturday (11-2) morning. We saw Dr. Mira Lim on Tuesday (11-5) early morning. We brought with us a detailed description of diagnosis by the kind doctors in Berkeley eye center. She spent about 10 minutes with us and wrote us a so-called "prescription" of lab test (see picture attached.) On Wednesday (11-6), we called her again to confirm if the prescription would work because the prescription just says "formal blood work/evaluation" and, from our past experiences, this seems vague. She confirmed to us that this will work. On Thursday (11-7) early morning, we went to the LabCorp at Albany and was told that what we got from Dr. Mira Lim is not a lab order and the doctor has to specify which test result she would like to see than just some "formal blood work." So we called her Oakland office. We are told that Dr. Mira Lim was in a different office. The lady at the front desk said "The office has no way to contact the doctor. I have to work with other patients." and hanged off while I was talking. The call only lasted about 7 minutes. I will never know why would she prescribed us a "not working" lab test and confirmed that it would work even when we double-checked with her several times. But her behavior doesn't seem to follow professional ethics. We were treated awfully during our limited interactions with her and her office. My mom's eyes are still red after 6 days and the office said it is not serious and let us wait ...... This is definitely the last thing you want to encounter as a weak patient with your vulnerable eyes at risk. read more

Dr. Lim did my 89 year old grandma's cataract surgery, and all went well! Dr. Lim was very sweet and professional, and was very proactive with identifying potential issues with my grandma's sight. My other grandma is now also a patient of Dr. Lim's. All of Dr. Lim's team are very kind, attentive, knowledgeable, and professional - and some of them even speak Ilocano and Tagalog (the native languages of my grandmas). Fantastic doctor with fantastic staff! The woman who checked me in (sorry, I didn't get her name) and the assistant Dominique were very friendly. Dr. Lim was also excellent - very friendly, professional and calm. I had never been to an ophthalmologist until today and having a doctor who was so calm made the experience worry free. I'm reluctant to assign such a low score to Dr, Lim. But I want to be fair to other potential patients who might consider hiring her. Briefly, here is what I experienced with her during the last three months. I consulted Dr. Lim regarding my cataracts. At that time, my vision was good enough to drive without glasses except at night. My ability to read newspapers, magazines and books without any glasses was almost flawless. Yet I wanted to be able to drive at night without glasses. So I consulted with Dr. Lim about what is the most likely outcome if I went through with the cataract surgery. To be sure and to be fair to her, she made no guarantees that my vision would be restored to 20/20. But after a thorough exam when I asked her whether she would go through with surgery by her and whether I had a high probability of significantly improve my vision, she assured me that she would go through with the surgery and in all likelihood my vision would improve. So I went through with it. In retrospect, I regret doing it with her. Why? The surgery and recovery of my left eye seemed to hold promise. There was no residual inflammation and my distant vision appeared to be better than before the surgery. Then she operated on my right eye and shortly afterwards, problems of inflammation and blurred vision surfaced. Worse, my ability to read without aids or glasses was destroyed. When I went for my postop, I was not happy. She told me that the inflammation would go away after a short time provided I took eye drops for a week or two. When I came back to check on my right eye, the inflammation hadn't gone so I was advised to apply two different powerful and super expensive eye drops three to four times a day for another month! In the mean time, it became apparent that I now will need two types of prescriptions one for reading ; the other for long distance. To summarize, Dr. Lim seem to be a bit formal but polite. Her office staff and her assistants are pleasant enough. I'm also not questioning Dr. Lim's training and experience. But I'm an unhappy patient and I'm at loss what I can do about it except caution her future patients to get second and third opinions before engaging her to perform cataract surgery! read more

Dr. Lim recently performed cataract surgery on both my eyes with tremendous results. Not only are my cataracts gone, but I went from severe nearsightedness to very mild nearsightedness in both eyes. What a fabulous change! She gave me all the information I needed and answered all my questions to help me make my decision to have surgery at that time. I also called her recently when my husband had a very painful and urgent eye issue develop. It was late afternoon, and his ophthalmologist was unavailable. I called Dr. Lim's office, and though she was actually done with appointments for the day, she waited until we could get there. She was able to diagnose and prescribe meds that provided immediate comfort, and during the follow-up visit gave us advice regarding what to watch out for going forward to avoid further issues. I was cooking one day, and accidentally splashed hot oil into my eye. I was in a great deal of pain, my vision was affected, and I was not able to open my eye due to the inflammation. I found Dr. Lim and I'm so thankful that I did. She saw me right away, evaluated my injury, cleaned and debrided my eye, and prescribed a 'contact lens bandage' (who knew!) and other drops to ease the pain and quickly help my eye heal. My eye felt better as soon as I walked out of her office and was almost fully healed within a few days with no vision loss. An amazing doctor, great bedside manner, and a wonderful staff. She also answered all my questions related or not so related to my medical conditions. She is very detail oriented, well informed, skillful, articulate and does not mind questions; traits of a great MD! Dr. Lim is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Berkeley School of Optometry and for ophthalmology residents at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. She is actively involved in teaching the ophthalmology residents at Highland Hospital in Oakland. She performs cataract, corneal transplantation, and other cornea surgeries. RockStar Doc! I came in to see Dr. Lim for a pterygium on my right eye. Before coming in, I saw my regular doctor, tried steroid drops and had no results. I suffered with this inflammation on my eye for well over a year. I finally decided to schedule an appointment to have it surgically removed. I was scared of surgery as this would be my first time. Dr. Lim walked me through the entire process and made me feel very comfortable. Dr. Lim is an excellent doctor who does great work. Day of surgery was a total breeze. Dr. Lim is great. I'm so happy to have found her! After moving across the country, I was dreading having to find - and get to know - all new doctors. Totally worth it though - Dr. Lim is GREAT! I was referred to her Oakland office after seeing several other doctors in the area since my move. In addition to being extremely near-sighted, I have a history of retinal problems - so it's important that I keep a close eye on things (har har). When I first arrived, I wasn't so sure - everything about the waiting room seemed so OLD compared to some of the other places I've been out here. Dr. Lim performed cataract surgery on both eyes (one first then the other a month later). I was completely happy from first visit to followup. Each time I met with her (initial visit and followups) she took time to talk to me. When I didn't have perfect vision in one eye (it was 20/30 instead of 20/20) she did more tests to check what was going on. Basically, the lens was perfect, my eye just wasn't completely doing its job. BTW, that improved by the next visit. Everyone at the Aspen Surgery Center at John Muir was wonderful too. I have never had a better experience with an outpatient surgery. I don't know what else to say. I can't recommend Dr. Lim highly enough. She was efficient but took the right amount of time. The results were great. She's does the best job of any ophthalmologist I've ever been to. read more

Dr. Lim is great. I have a plugged tear duct that causes my eye to always be watery and teary. Have had it for years, and have grown accustomed to always looking like I'm crying. When it led to an infection, I was referred to her at her Oakland office on pill hill. I hate all things eyeball related. It just grosses me out. I was not looking forward to an appointment with someone who actually specializes in eyeballs. Yuck. But I'm glad she does, because she's one of the most knowledgeable, thorough doctors. Moreover, she is energetic and has terrific bedside manner. She examined my eye via her microscope several times, advised me of some options for my plugged tear duct, and gave me a prescription for the infection. read more

Should be a 10! Not enough room to put ALL positives..Staff is Wonderful. On Time! Dr Lim is SO professional and makes you feel so relaxed. I'm nervous about everything but this was my eyes! Overall the exam was satisfactory. Dr. Lim examined my eyes and answered my questions. There were a few questions she wasn't able to answer. I guess that is better than simply making something up like other physicians do. I do wish she went more in depth about my Corneas. I really wanted answers about the recovery of my PRK procedure. She gave me information but it was limited. I'm giving her three stars but really I would rank her somewhere between a three and four. read more

I had a bad case of iridocyclitis in May. I was seen by a few optometrists but the available medications just did not work. After a few days, they referred me to Dr Lim. She saw me right away and she knew exactly what to do. She explained my condition to me very clearly and got me started on a stronger medication. She even gave me samples to tide me over until I could get the prescription filled. My eye started improving that same day. When I had to come back for my follow up appointments, the office staff took care of all the authorizations needed and it was a stress-free experience. Now I know exactly who to go to for any eye related issues. Dr Lim is a very knowledgeable and kind ophthalmologist. She can do just about anything, from complete exams to surgeries and laser procedures. The office is fully equipped with the latest technology so I could do my eye measurements right there and then. I cannot address the skill of Dr. Lim, but I can loudly complain of incompetence as far as their appointment makers and receptionists are concerned. Following a recent eye exam @ U.C. Berkeley Optometry School, I was given what I THOUGHT was a valid "referral" to Dr. Lim. The fellow I talked with who set up the appointment was polite and managed to give me an appointment within 6 days. HOWEVER, when I arrived this morning @ 11:05 for an 11:15 appt. and presented my Medi-Cal/Medicare documents, I was informed that, as the referral did not come from my Primary Care Physician that if I was seen today, I might possibly be billed for (I think she said 20% of something, I'm not sure; because by then I was totally pissed after having walked 12 blocks from the closest free, not posted for only 2-hours, street parking) because of protocol. I semi-politely inquired as to WHY this information had not been brought to my attention when I made the appointment, as I had specifically stated the name of the U.C. Optometrist and was met with an IKN look, but NO sympathy or apologetic words. I rudely suggested an anatomical destination for the clipboard I handed back to her and walked angrily back to my car, all the while looking forward to venting my spleen in this forum. At least I got some exercise. I'm also wondering about HOW a General Practitioner can diagnose cataracts. read more

I can't even begin to describe how great a surgeon Dr. Lim is. She made a procedure that scared me--cataract surgery-- into a non-stressful, pleasant experience. Calm, confident, warm, humorous...and clearly an exceptionally talented surgeon, she has restored my vision and made me feel young again. A "no-freak-out" event! I was on a trip to visit a family member in Berkeley CA and got a scratched cornea, which is very painful. Of course I was in a bad mood not only being in pain but also being incapacitated on my vacation. We looked up and called around to a couple of offices; Dr Lim didn't have an appointment available but she did make time to see me in between patients. I was a little skeptical at first because the office seems a little bit dated but it was extremely clean and I could tell they had all of the latest technological updates. My boyfriend got his eye scratched a few months back while playing basketball. I called Northern California Cornea Associates, and Dr. Lim was able to see him immediately. She was very thorough in her examination, and calm and reassuring throughout the visit (which I definitely appreciated as the anxious non-patient watching the proceedings). She prescribed him some drops and sent us home with samples for the interim. By the time he went back for his one week follow-up, his eye had healed completely. Dr. Mira Lim was highly recommended to me by a nurse colleague from church. She is totally amazing. She did my right eye cataract surgery a few months back. The day she operated on me, on my way home, I could already see through the metal eye shield the road signs clearly ( was near sighted prior to surgery) & the whole recovery time, did not experience any pain. My follow up checkup, 2 wks after, I had a 20/20 vision on my right eye. My last check up, a month after the surgery, I could see both far & near. Dr. Lim said to me, my left eye (near sighted) & operated right eye ( farsighted) compensates each other so I won't need the left operated on till it's necessary. Not only has she mastered her field of specialty, she is honest, trustworthy with her patients that if surgery is not needed, she will tell you & leave you to make the decision to have it now or when it's urgent.
