So getting makeup for the big day wasn't necessarily daunting, but I was really just looking for someone to tell me what I needed and literally pick it out for me. The ladies at Venus did exactly this without being the least bit condescending or trying to sell me anything they didn't think I needed. As I told them what I was hoping for and what I was comfortable with, they led me through picking each element and applying it on my face, right there. Not only was this a lot of fun, but they know what they're doing. Both women that worked on me--one of which was the owner--are licensed cosmetologists and their work was impeccable. These aren't just women who think makeup is fun or something--they're serious about what they do and they honestly, genuinely want you to feel beautiful. The product is amazing and, yes, very expensive. I think it's worth it though. This is top of the line stuff that I will have for a long time and love using. I would recommend Venus to anyone looking to treat themselves to something special or to look extra amazing for a special occasion. The jewelry is unique and a lot are made by local artisans which is also very cool. I The store is fairly small but the pieces are really nicely curated. There's also a small sale section in the back where you can get an even better bargain. The focus is obviously cotton but overall you'll find a variety of textiles and materials. Upstairs there is a home store which is pricier but the goods are fantastic. Amazing decor pieces like beautiful glass orbs/vases, metal straws, gorgeous edison bulb lighting fixtures, lots of chalkboard, tin and reclaimed wood. Minimalist and rustic. It's hard to really buy a lot here if you're on a budget but if you're looking for a nice statement piece for your home this place can provide. Many that I've been to are way overpriced with very little selection, so I tend to stick with online shopping or larger department stores. HOWEVER. Sweet Pea. Exception! I was graciously given a Sweet Pea gift certificate and so I popped in before departing TC -- I should've given myself more time. There is such great selection, it's almost like a mini department store. Many stores within a store as they carry several brands that operate sort of like small displays within the store. My FAVORITE brand Aden & Anais -- oodles of stuff. Heaven. They also have great clothing like Tea, etc. The stroller selection is out of this world. Seriously. Wow. If you are looking for ANYTHING child related, this is your place. Great for gifts of course, but truly even for your own kids. I spoke with Jeff (the owner and father of FOUR!) and he is truly knowledgable about all of the brands and extremely involved in the products he offers. Him and I went to the same high school! The staff was also very friendly, helping me with sizes and showing me a few things I didn't know about. Sweet Pea is everything that a baby/kid store should be. Right in Downtown TC. Lucky ducks! I'll be making frequent stops on my trips to the native land. All around a classy operation. My disappointment was that my hands were not soaked before the manicure, which is unlike any salon I have been to before. Also, two nails chipped within a day while the others lasted for over a week! Be warned about the price. It may be competitive for TC (don't know since this is the first salon I have been to since moving there), but it is 45% more than a mani/pedi in the Detroit area.
