(This was the only spot available for our last minute booking) Although the site was pricey it was beautiful and had all the upgrades except only 30amp. They have 100 sites and our primarily back in spots with just water and electric and they do have a separate dump station, laundry room, and shower facilities. This is run by the city, so the spots go fast, they're inexpensive so you'll want to book far in advance. $42 for non-waterfront and $48 for waterfront if you can grab them. They have 24 spots on the water and 76 spots not. They do have the ship signals on the campground map so you can understand what you're hearing as the ships pass by Prepare for the fish flies if it's summertime!! Make sure to take the time to go in town to some of the museums, go to the a Soo locks and watch the ships go by from the two-story observation deck, they also have a small museum here that is worth the time. Downtown is not too far away and has shops and restaurants too

We stayed here for 9 nights as a home base to explore the UP…read more It's the first campground we've stayed at this is formatted in a circle it actually works very well! They have ALOT of options , full hookups 30/50 amp, sites with electric and water, electric only and primitive tent sites. Most people are clustered up in the full hookups though. This campground is about 6 miles from town- so easy access for groceries etc. You are a few likes from Mi Dog- do not miss this sled dog summer camp- and do them a huge favor and go play with the puppies to help them socialize. Also go to Osborns Bear rescue to Support their efforts. You are not too far from Tahquamenon falls too- and keep going another 20 miles to Whitefish point. The owner, Brice, really did a nice job- we made a later reservation, needed 9 days; and there wasn't anything available consecutively - so he figured out a plan and it worked great. Firewood is $7 a bundle; they have ice too. Take the time to paint a rock for the rock snake :)

If you've camped before you know how some campground are. These are individual stalls that shut and lock with hot hot water. The pool was warm and cleaned daily. The store was big and we got a huge thing of firewood that lasted us more than the 6 days. The staff was nice and helpful. Always driving around. It rained hard one night and they were out the next day trying to make the road leveled again. The park is a little outdated, but the kids still enjoyed it. The bathrooms could use an update and would be nice if they had one in the back, but we were fine.

This was our first and last stay at Trailside Campground…read more We rented Cabin #3, which is only about 25 yards from the pavilion. It was Friday, July 24, and there were no scheduled concerts or events. Around 5 or 6 people, including the owner, were partying in the pavilion with extremely loud music, strobe lights, and a disco ball until the early morning hours. The cheap curtains in the cabin did nothing to block the flashing lights. At about 1:40 a.m., I politely walked over and asked if they could just turn the music down a little. I never asked them to shut it off--I simply wanted it lowered enough that we could get some sleep. The owner's response was unbelievable. He appeared to be intoxicated and immediately came storming toward me yelling, "Hey! Hey! Hey!" He then told me, "This isn't a KOA or a family campground. This is going to go on until 3 or 4 in the morning," and said he'd give me a refund. He wasn't calm or respectful--he was aggressive and confrontational over a simple, reasonable request. The next morning, another camper stopped me in the bathroom and said she felt bad for how the owner spoke to me. She told me another camper was so upset after witnessing it that he left the pavilion. She also mentioned the owner had been drinking all day because they were celebrating the one-year anniversary of buying the campground. We weren't the only people bothered by the noise. Campers across from us were complaining too. If your campground isn't family-friendly and you plan on having loud parties until 3 or 4 in the morning, that's your choice. But be upfront about it so guests know what they're paying for. More importantly, don't treat paying customers with disrespect when they make a polite request. Customer service starts at the top, and unfortunately our experience with the owner ensured we'll never be back.
