OMG...this is like the nightmare that never ends! WTH...I just received a letter from Kaiser today informing me that Bay Sleep Clinic - SF billed them $4,300.00 for the sleep test that never occurred. This is insurance fraud!!!! Fortunately, everything is well documented as well as my email exchange with our Kaiser doctor at that time informing them of my dissatisfaction and what transpired that evening. I will be calling Kaiser to inform them of this on Monday. If I don't get immediate satisfaction, I have friends at Channel 4 and Channel 7 News for Consumer Reporter and 7 On Your Side. I checked all the reviews and the bad reviews does not make any sense at all. I called Bay Sleep Clinic to schedule my husband and my father for consultation and Sleep Study. They both got their appointment within a week. All the staff I talked to were nice and answered all my questions. After the Sleep Study were done, we received a call that the reports are ready and to consult with our doctor. We were referred back to Bay Sleep Clinic for the CPAP device. The Tech contacted me right away and got the information we need to proceed with the CPAP. I highly recommend Bay Sleep Clinic for Sleep Apnea Treatment. read more

I've actually been really pleased with my experience here so far! I didn't have good vibes at first since getting my appointment scheduled was a hassle and they rescheduled me several times. But once I saw Dr. Zvonkina it honestly made it worth it. She was so kind, took so much time to explain things to me, and was insightful in offering suggestions to help me in treatment. I felt at ease and I liked that I never had to wait to see the doctor. I did an at-home sleep study, so I can't speak to the lab sleep experience, but the rooms seemed nice enough. There's a courtyard fountain outside the rooms, which is audible from the rooms, curious as to if it's turned off at night because that would be annoying to sleep with! read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. This organization is a complete disaster when it comes to customer service. The initial test experience was fine, but everything that has come since has been inexcusably awful! They never return phone calls. They have some centralized call center for the entire bay area which takes days to get back to you (if ever). I brought back a malfunctioning CPAP machine recently after it took 2 weeks to get them on the phone (I had to make an appointment just to come drop the machine off to get fixed). After all that, the temp machine they gave me malfunctioned (humidifier didn't work). After hearing nothing from them for over a month, I finally called to check in on my original machine. Naturally, it took them a day just to return my call .. when they informed me that they were waiting for my authorization to spend money fixing it. GOD ONLY KNOWS how long they would have kept waiting if I hadn't called to check in!!! These folks are a joke. I pity the fool who gets stuck dealing with their customer service AFTER purchasing a machine. If you have another option, ANY other option for purchasing the machine .. use it! read more

I have to agree to with the two posts for this clinic. I am just so frustrated with how they run this clinic. It is ridiculous to have to make an appointment to even talk to a doctor/nurse/technician! Repeated calls were never returned. It has been nearly three months from the day we called to make an initial appointment to now, and we still have not received our machine. I wish there was some way to file some kind of formal complaint! It is just bad business and poor healthcare practice to have such a limited line of communication between the doctors and the patients. It is just ridiculous! read more

Getting diagnosed and treated for Sleep Apnea was one of the best things I have ever done. Typically it is a two night process where they measure your sleep and then they measure you with a CPAP. The first morning after waking up wearing a CPAP I felt more wide awake than I had felt in years. Made a world of difference. They have also been very responsive. read more

I had a very positive experience here. In fact, I believe getting a sleep study probably changed my life -- more about that later. Some of the reviews on here surprise me, because I found the whole staff at Bay Sleep Clinic to be professional, pleasant, and responsive. From the time I walked in the door for my overnight sleep study, the tech who ran the test was friendly, professional, and explained things to me so I knew what was going on. The study itself was a brand new experience for me -- and a little strange at first, because you are sleeping in a brand new environment, with many devices recording things like your leg movement, breathing patterns, etc. But I found I fell asleep quickly, and was able to sleep through the night. Actually, I slept better than I normally sleep, because in the second half of the night, they hooked me up to a CPAP machine to test various settings to see what is the right level for me (kind of like when you get glasses, they check different lenses to find the right prescription for you). When I woke up in the morning, I was amazed for several reasons. First, I felt like I had already showered and was alert, even though I was just sitting on the side of the bed and had just woken up. Second, I felt like I had already had my morning cup of coffee because my mind was alert and awake (it usually takes me 30 minutes or so after coffee to feel like that in the morning). Third, I was shocked that I felt so good even though I slept in a totally unfamilar environment (a sleep lab!). I can easily say I had not felt this good after a night of sleep in many, many years. So, the study showed that I responded very well to the CPAP machine, but I didn't even need to know the details behind it -- all I know is I felt better in the morning. So I later got my CPAP from another Bay Sleep location, and have been using it since -- I can't recommend this enough for anyone who (like me) was struggling with sleep issues or feeling tired in the day. The worst experience I've had with medical billing, ever. They sent me a bill a full 1 year after my service, and none of it went through insurance. They want $630 from me for a home sleep study. This is after they billed Insurance $2700 (Anthem Blue Cross), which refused to pay any portion because they deemed it not medically necessary. I don't particularly blame them -- in my opinion, that rate would be insurance fraud. I went through California's Independent Medical Review Process, and they reversed Anthem's decision, and required them to pay the bill. But since they were out of network (not something Bay Sleep warned me about-thanks again), Anthem only agreed to pay $159 of the $630, so I'm left with a $471 bill. To make matters worse, that bill has been racking up late fees and interest payments while I go through the lengthy process of appealing my insurance's decision and Independent Medical Review. Avoid these people like the plague. Once you do get service, you will never hear from them again. Their billing department requires you to leave a message and they will call you within SEVEN days. Yes, despite them adding a $10 late fee and interest every 30 days, they take a full week to get back to you. Also, their email does not appear to be working, as I sent them several messages asking them to pause my bill while I am having insurance review it, yet I have received no responses. read more

As a follow up to my Bay Sleep Clinic nightmare -- I decided to say good riddance to Bay Sleep Clinic and get my machine from Apria Healthcare (on the recommendation of Blue Shield). You know how much the machine at Apria cost? $187! (It actually costs nearly $900 but my insurance covers $80. Why did Bay Sleep Clinic tell me that the machine costs $4000, and even though my insurance would cover 80%, I would need to pay up front? Because they did not mention that Blue Shield will pay reasonable charges. EVEN IF I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY UP FRONT, BY GOING TO A DIFFERENT COMPANY, I SAVED $600 (80% OF $4000 VS. 80% OF $900) THESE PEOPLE ARE CRIMINALS. read more

The main problem with Bay Sleep Clinic is their administration and communication on their services and charges. My personal experience was so negative and confusing, that I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere for this service. I originally did the study out of pocket, but for all subsequent charges they completely miscommunicated the costs, services and options. They were not able to differentiate between potential insurance coverages and actual coverage by the insurance carrier. I had in engage a health care advocate to resolve this issue. What really indicates their poor service quality was exhibited by their manager Hannah. She was rude and extremely aggressive and unnecessarily so. Her stance suggested that this organization has no standards for client interaction and deals with issues by attacking the client. I would strongly urge anyone using their services to always get in writing the costs involved before using their services. Do not depend on any verbal communication from these people. The actual sleep study experience was OK. The technician was very good and explained things clearly. As noted in other reviews the rooms are not very nice, but it is unlikely you will get much sleep anyway once you are hooked up to the machine and though not fancy it was adequate. There are no showers so it is hard to clean up the next day after putting putty and good in your hair. read more

I saw Dr. Yuen on short notice after being referred through my primary physician. She was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to listen to my issues thoroughly. I have seen other sleep doctors and never felt that amount of confidence in the experience. I went in for my CPAP exam and although it's not fun to spend the night getting an exam, I can't imagine a more friendly staff or better experience. My sleep tech was very gentle and she explained the entire process. She also took her time in answering my questions and I did not feel like anything was rushed (which I often do when at medical appointments). She made sure to explain exactly what to expect, and followed up throughout the evening to make sure I was comfortable. I would absolutely refer anyone to Bay Sleep Clinic. read more

I very rarely post reviews but I am totally frustrated with these people. I have called 5 times to inquire about a patient statement sent by Bay Sleep Clinic. First, the statement does not even have any contact info on it, so I had to Google the company to get a phone number. I have called 5 times, left five detailed messages + two phone numbers and an email address where I can be reached. To date, I have yet to receive a return phone call. I would give them less than one star as well. The test experience was okay, but I am suspicious about a company that tests for sleep disorders and sells/issues cpap machines. In any event, after I received my results I called their centralized center and asked to have a doctor call me to review my results. I never received a call from the doctor. I later called to ask a few questions of the nurse who set me up with my cpap maching. I left three messages and never received a return call. Poor service which leads me to the conclusion the place is a racket - that if you test in their clinic, the diagnosis is apnea and their only solution is to sell/issue a cpap machine. I'm very happy with my recent experience at Bay Sleep Clinic. I visited the San Francisco clinic about two months ago, wasn't too thrilled about spending the night for the test but the sleep tech was both welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about the entire process. This helped put me at ease. After completing my test, I heard back from them pretty quickly and they had a variety of options for me to choose from based on my specific needs. I ended up getting a CPAP through their team as well... this was difficult to understand at first. But I called them 3-4 times with follow up questions and each time I received polite and helpful service. I especially appreciated Dr. Yuen's insight about my sleep hygiene as a whole. She took the time to get to know me and my situation and I have experienced better sleep since using my CPAP. I would recommend BSC to others looking for a solution to sleep issues. read more

I have been treated at Bay Sleep Clinic and now my CPAP is the best and the most dependable bed partner I have ever had. :-) I feel more energy than ever, I have lost weight. I am much much happier than before The staff at the Bay Sleep Clinic were very nice to me. The clinic bed is very comfortable. The result came much faster than I had expected. The MD I consulted with was very knowlegable. The staff followed up to make sure I have been using my CPAP and sent result to my referring MD. My test and treatment was covered by my insurance and had no issue with Bay Sleep Clinic. I highly recommend treatment of SLEEP APEA! The difference is like the fog has lifted and the sun has come out. read more

The room had broken blinds, pillows thin as paper, tech could hardly speak English and was argumentative, didn't receive adequate notation from this clinic to get Medicare approval for a new CPAP machine! Its very unusual to see reps from the Bay Area Sleep Clinic reply to posts trying to defend the clinic from negative reviews. That's what yelp is about-personal experience reviews. More importantly their repy posts do not answer specific questions or say they are sorry. Whats more alarming to me is that the replies are from a "Sam N and Sina N" neither of which are on their site-- http://www.baysleep.com and neither of which give a last name or and certifications like Kin M. Yuen, M.D. or Stephen N. Brooks, M.D. For all I know Sam and Sina work at 7-Eleven. What would be much more professional would be to send the patient a standard patient survey to elicit a response and open the lines of communication to fix the problem in hopes of the patient changing their review to a positive one. I have contacted SF Bay Area Sleep Clinic to inquire about becoming a patient in in the past. I have gotten calls back and the rep has always been professional, kind and informative. Bay Area Sleep Clinic does not have doctors in San Francisco for initial consultations. Unless they wised up they want me to go to Daly City to see their Doctor then use THE SF location for supplies and sleep studies. A lab without a clinician in SF sends off many alarms the least of which would be Who is running the office? ...or...If they can't get an SF Doctor to join their clinic than there must be somethning wrong with Bay Sleep Clinic? The good thing is that Bay Sleep Clinic is not the only Sleep Care Clinic in SF. UCSF has a wonderful clinic on Sutter St. The problem is that UCSF is not a durable medical equiptment provider. The problem is that Bay Sleep Clinic does is a DMEP with not SF Doctor...but they wont take new patients from UCSF without making them see their own Doctor..in Daly City. BASED ON THE SF LOGISTICS I CANT IMAGINE WHY BAY AREA SLEEP CLINIC WOULD NOT OFFER SHUTTLE PICK UP AT DALY CITY BART?. THE LARGE REVENUE MADE ALONE SHOULD PAY FOR A 1O MINUTE SHUTTLE TO AND FROM BART FOR NEW SF PATIENT CONSULTATIONS. MAYBE BAY SLEEP CLINIC WILL THINK ABOUT THIS ONE? I trust the reviews here on yelp. No one sits down to take the time to write a bad review about a stranger. If the statements are accurate the bad experiences on yelp would made me post and post and post--like this one post, eh?. But being told to sleep on the floor and finding out I have to share a bathroom would make me leave BEFORE the procedure starts and go elsewhere. Who is at fault if YOU stay? I would leave BEFORE the procedure and go elsewhere. I would not leave without washing out all the clay in a shower in the am... assuming they have showers? I f I found there was a shared bath AFTER THE FACT and I needed to go while I was waiting they would accommodate me or they would clean up the mess. Being polite and professional goes a long way. I cant imagine having to wait to use a restroom but that would be their problem not mine. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I DON'T SEE ANY INFO ABOUT THE RESTROOM ACCOMMODATIONS ANYWHERE ON THEIR SITE. IF THEY HAPPENED TO FORGET TO MENTION IT ON THE PHONE AND I WAS NOT AWARE WHEN I ARRIVED AND THEN I WOKE UP AND NEEDED TO USE THE RESTROOM REAL BAD THEY WOULD ACCOMMODATE ME. IF THEY DID NOT I WOULD ACCOMMODATE ME. I can't believe their tech would send your tO bed 3 hours early---You must have showed up 3 hrs early? Their tech wearing a mask during reception and wire placement is impersonal and wrong Any reason they would give would not be acceptable. I am sitting on the fence about this place. I had a very positive experience with Bay Sleep, in their SF location. Similar to what Marcus R. said, I had 2 nights of studies. On the 2nd night, when they used a CPAP, I woke up feeling like I had already showered and had a cup of coffee -- fully energized! It was really an eye-opening experience. Long story short, they got me a CPAP, and I have been a happy customer since. The best part is that since getting a CPAP, I have lost about 35 pounds. The 2 reviews here have really caught me by surprise. I am a Sleep Technician who has worked for BSC for many many years and never have I run across comments like these. Bay Sleep is most certainly NOT a racket. It is unfortunate that these patients had a bad experience but rarely ever is it possible to please grumpy, unhappy, sleep deprived people and this is proof. As a patient, you are reffered to Bay Sleep by YOUR doctor. YOUR doctor is sent the results and it is up to YOUR doctor to determine, based on the results IF you have sleep apnea. We do have doctors on staff and you may make an appointment to see one of them but you are never forced.Our doctors will not contact you ,if you would like to review your results contact your reffering doctor.This is explained to patients explicitly from the time you walk through our doors. Secondly, purchising a CPAP machine is in your hands. If you chose to use Bay Sleep we will get your insurance auth and service your machine throughout its lifetime. If it takes us 2 weeks to get insurance auth so you can have your machine repaired or other so be it,we do give you a replacement. Machines do malfunction this is a fact. Please remember good care is in your hands and you need to be your own advocate for healthcare.Contact your insurance company and find out you have the phone numbers. Lastly, there are only 2 main locations( Menlo Park and Los Gatos) ALL other clinics are satellitte clinics ,meaning no one is there on a daily basis.If you want to be seen at these clinics you MUST make an appt first.Also not all employees are full time.We do many different things so if you leave 3 messages all on the same day or even a day or 2 later it may take a bit to get a return call.Technicians only work 3 days so no matter how many times you call on our days off we will not be able to return your call until we are back in the office. Please keep in mind the majority of patients that walk through our doors have been suffering from sleep apnea for many years and while it may be an inconvenience to go another day suffering, chances are you are going to survive. read more

All the Bay Sleep Clinics are the same, Horrible!!!!! They do not return calls in a timely manner, they do not have any support once you recieve the machine, and if by some miracle they do return your phone call they are not very helpfull. One star is to generous a review. read more
