I am a volunteer at The Food Pantry, and I see these clients every week, and can share that the volunteers and staff here are compassionate and welcoming. Clients can receive assistance once a week (Mon-Sat) by signing in and being assigned a volunteer shopper who will show them all the items and quantities available for their household. And the nicest side effect is the friendships I see forming as clients, staff, and volunteers work together to ease hunger. The work in the background that keeps this Pantry running smoothly is impressive, from the legal requirements to the goal of near-zero waste. What is not fit for human consumption is shared with farmers to feed their animals. Cardboard is recycled and plastic wrap is turned in for reuse in other weather-proof items such as furniture and decking. The dumpster is rarely filled with such careful oversight. If you are in need of food and are a resident of Waukesha County, which is a very big county, The Pantry is here for you. Bring an ID, and proof of residence, such as a utility bill or rental lease. If there are more in your household, bring ID for them also, such as birth certificates for children or school ID. We also have a pet program to help feed your cats and dogs, avoiding food-insecurity for everyone in your household. If you want to donate food, personal products or pet food, we are grateful. Check-in was well organized and they broke people into groups doing different types of cleanup. Each group was handled by a team of 20-something volunteers that were working on education in public service. I ended up doing some brush cleanup and moving huge piles of logs on one of the neighboring lots on 17th. Free boot camp! Of primary interest to me is their Gardens to Market program - they look to have quite a few garden plots spread out on the block which they use to sell produce to their neighbors at local markets. If you're looking to volunteer some time, this is definitely a worthy group, I'll certainly be back.

I have met some awesome people eating at the senior dining center. The dining center has entertainment, pool table, exercise machines for wellness fitness, bingo were you win prizes, arts and crafts, Large T.V., indoor volleyball and fun games is just a few things there. They have blood pressure screenings ( upstairs) and a Food Pantry all in the same place. Awesome. The senior dining is for 60 and older people. They have other activities for younger people and a array of upcoming events like outings for bowling etc.. The center is a Gift from GOD. So Many fantastic things going on there for the Community. I donate to there center every month to show my appreciation of there care for the community. They have a abundance of Support literature for you to review for all kinds of services throughout Milwaukee and at the Center. The Staff and Volunteers are exceptional and humble. The center is a one in a kind of happiness and Careing. Please stop by to enjoy some fun and happiness. Kids Matter Inc. is always looking for…read morededicated individuals who possess the qualities needed to be trained as Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers. These special people are trained to help children in the foster care/child welfare system. Kids matter Inc. will train volunteers in a 34 hour training program. Requirements include being at least 21 years of age, ability to communicate effectively, 14 hour commitment per month for fifteen months, and having an open mind and a kind heart. The Court Appointed Special Advocate gathers information about the children by communicating with the necessary parties involved such as family members, case managers and teachers, etc. The advocate then prepares a report to be presented at the court hearing and usually read by the judge. Lance Jones, JD and program manager at Kids Matter CASA, addressed the members of the Milwaukee Junior League at their membership meeting on November 17 at the University Club. He reminded the organization of the great success and achievements of this program and its tremendous positive impact upon the community and Milwaukee as a whole. Many foster children get to spend time with local professionals and benefit from their experience which helps influence youngsters to develop better habits and skills which help them look forward to establishing long term goals. Thanks to this program children are steered into a productive and educational environment that provides the necessary stimulation to help them stay focused in educational and community activities. The Milwaukee Junior League has partnered with Kids matter Inc. since 2004. They continue to promote the merits of volunteering for this highly recognized local project.
