We recently adopted our newest feline overlord from the Wisconsin Humane Society Milwaukee Campus and we are so glad we did! Back in February we lost our beloved kitty and in early March we went to the Humane Society to attend their monthly pet loss support group. It was very helpful, plus the $10 per person goes as a donation to the WHS, so coolness all around. In late October, we arrived at 11:07 to the parking lot to sign up for the waiting list and we got spot #20! Popular season for pet adoptions? The hour and a half wait to go in was totally worth it. You can see on the app your spot on the list and they text you when only 2 are ahead of you to go in to meet potential adoptees. Their COVID-19 protocols are up to par and with social distancing and all, we met our new kitty within minutes. As we went through the process, there was a lot of ease in getting through every step. And then, we signed the adoption contract and kitty was on her way home! Pawsitive experience indeed!

Yesterday, my fiancée, Ramon and I decided to browse and see what they had, we had no intentions of making a decision on the spot. Until we saw Emmett, an adorable 1yr old Sharpei-Pit Bull mix that stole our hearts. A few of the other dogs were a bit aggressive, this one was just the sweetest. As we kept looking, he stared at us as if saying: "HEY, u can't look at those dogs, PICK ME IM THE ONE!" After my fiancée played with him he knew that was our baby. Fast forward to today, one whole day later, Emmett now owns our bed and snores like a human and we love him! Sue, you were amazing! You made the process so memorable! We love you!! Ramon and Bobby

That's unexpected and a really nice touch after my first donation.

I feel much better now shifting my donations from the the place where my buddy was adopted because I was not happy with them so I switched to the Wi Humane Society and they took the time to send me a thank you card which I was not expecting. After Six + years of me donating to the previous Humane Society I never once received a thank you card so when I received one today I thought that was a very nice touch and just reaffirmed that this was the right place to shift my donations to. I wish I could do more like giving a forever home to a new animal but I can only have one at a time and it's Buddy's turn at the moment for as long as she lives. Thank you for the thank you card.

Thinking of sharing your heart and your home? Consider adopting from the Wisconsin Humane Society first. I've adopted most of my closest friends from this location. My beloved cat, Luna, was a 4-year old rescue from WHS. When I lost her to cancer several years ago, it was a no brainer to bring joy, a good home and lots of love to another adult cat in need. When I was ready to have a dog at home again, I also turned to WHS and found the best friend any man or woman could ask for in eight-year-old Wallace. When you stop in at WHS, adoption assistants help pick a pet that matches your personality and lifestyle. They properly screen each prospective family to ensure these pets find their forever home too. It isn't just dogs and cats -- WHS offers small animal and bird adoption as well. Looking for a welcome home gift for your new friend or need to pick up a few supplies? The Animal Antics store has everything you need, and part of the proceeds return to the animals too! Fun Fact: Submit a photo to the WHS annual calendar contest. Perhaps your pet will end up a superstar!

Dawwwwwwww I love the Humane Society! I got my lil pup (i.e. full grown dog) here a little over 6 months ago. The adoption process was a bit lengthy, mainly because I went in on a busy day and I think they might have been short staffed. Doesn't matter, I'll wait a bit to become a dog mom. They pack a bunch of stuff into their little shop. If you're considering adopting, just stock up on must-haves and other supplies there. Frequent buyer's card for Fromm's and good prices. They engrave tags too. I took my dog to their Shy Dog training class. One hour on Saturdays for four week, cost somewhere between $70-$80, with a discount for dogs who were adopted there. There were 7 other dogs with varying training levels. My dog has been much more comfortable around other dogs since the class. I learned a lot of valuable information in a very safe environment where I could ask questions and get as much out of it as I could. Totally recommend!

This is Mr Big and I adopted him from the wonderful people at the humane society!

What can you say negatively about the humane society? This is an awesome no-kill shelter and they really do care about the animals that come in through their doors. Many times they take in dogs/cats with special needs and fix them up and get them adopted. They have great programs for the community, and fun events like a 24 hour adopt-a-thon. I was fortunate enough to rescue my cat Mr Big from this shelter. As cliche as it sounds, it was love at first sight. He was a big black and white tubby kitty and he won our hearts. We were assigned a counselor who took us around to meet quite a few cats before we decided on the one for us. Each animal is given a personality type that they fit into, so you are easily able to figure out which cats/dogs would work best for your lifestyle. We wanted an outgoing, cuddly cat and that is exactly what we found in Mr Big. All cats are sent home with a bag of Science food diet, and the most incredible things is all cats over 1 year are technically free. They ask for a donation, but who wouldn't mind donating money to this wonderful establishment? As soon as I buy a home, I know I'm going to adopt another dog from the humane society. Adopted pets are some of the best around. They are usually some of the sweetest, kindest animals and they are so grateful that you chose them to be your own. Before heading to a pet store, or a breeder, try the humane society! There are so many awesome pets waiting for you there!

When I arrived at the agreed time, no one answered the door or the phone. I ended up having to flag down her boyfriend when he came outside to grab a package so I could even get someone's attention. Once inside, the house was very dirty, which immediately raised concerns for me. The breeder then brought out the kitten I was supposed to take home, and it was clearly sick. Her mother admitted they already knew the kitten had not been keeping food down for about a week and a half. I had originally been scheduled to pick up the kitten earlier but had to postpone, which makes me think the kitten may have appeared healthy when I first would have picked it up and then gotten sick shortly after bringing it home. After this experience, I did more research and found multiple complaints online from people reporting ringworm coming from this cattery, which can be a huge ordeal to deal with. To be fair, the breeder did return my deposit when I declined to take the kitten, but the overall situation was extremely concerning and not what I would expect from a responsible breeder.

I have never been more disappointed with a business…read more About six months ago, I decided to try this doggy daycare after hearing great things about it from people at MADACC. Since I'm new to the downtown area, the location seemed perfect between work and school. The staff were welcoming, asked thorough questions, and I quickly scheduled an evaluation for my dog, Scooby. On the first evaluation day, I was told to come back later because there were no dogs he was "meshing with." It seemed a little odd, but I didn't think much of it. The next day, Scooby returned excited and ready to play. During the evaluation, he grabbed a slip leash that a staff member was wearing around her body and tugged on it. Based on that incident alone, they denied him and told me to return after he had "more training." As someone who has worked in a dog daycare myself, I found that reasoning questionable. Wearing slip leads around your body can create safety risks regardless of how well-trained a dog is. Additionally, I had recently invested over $2,000 in a board-and-train program that Scooby completed successfully. Being told he needed more training felt dismissive and unfair. Nevertheless, I accepted their decision and moved on. Fast forward to today. Scooby has continued his training and has made significant progress. Unfortunately, he has since developed occasional patellar luxation. Multiple veterinarians have evaluated him and cleared him for normal activities. They have also advised that if his knee slips out, it can be safely placed back into position and have not recommended surgery at this time. When I brought Scooby back for reevaluation, I was completely transparent about his condition. What made the experience even more frustrating was that I waited over 15 minutes before a staff member even came out to interact with him. After that wait, only a short amount of time was spent discussing his condition before I was told they could not evaluate or accept him because of the possibility of his knee dislocating during play. It felt as though the decision had already been made before he was given a fair chance. At this point, it feels like every time I have brought Scooby in, a new reason has been found to deny him. First it was a leash-tugging incident, then it was his medical condition. As someone with experience working in dog daycare environments, I understand that safety is important. However, every daycare environment has inherent risks that must be managed. The facility itself uses portable crates lined along the walls of the play areas, and staff members wear and handle equipment around dogs. Those are operational risks that come with running any daycare. It was difficult to understand why Scooby was repeatedly singled out when risk management is a normal part of the job. Meanwhile, Scooby regularly attends another daycare and boarding facility in my hometown without issue, frequents dog parks, and has interacted successfully with dogs and people of all ages. Even complete strangers have been comfortable interacting with him and helping him when his knee occasionally slips. I understand businesses must make decisions they believe are best for their staff and facility. However, after two separate attempts, two completely different reasons for denial, and a reevaluation that never truly felt like an evaluation at all, I am left feeling frustrated and unwelcome. I hate to play the breed discrimination card but he is a large American bully boxer breed with cropped ears. I genuinely wanted this facility to work out because of its convenient location and the positive things I had heard beforehand. Unfortunately, my experience has been the opposite. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

This is the best investment you can make on the quality of life in your pet-friendly household. We had reached the final straw with our pup. She would non-stop bark at anything that moves, pull on the leash for entire walks, herd/nip at our toddler, lunge/growl at house guests while cowering at others, and further unruly behavior. We felt horrible and embarrassed that we couldn't control our dog, a dog that when just with us was the most loving dog we've ever encountered. We were not going to let a dog get the best of us, especially when it comes to our toddler. It was time for a change, we made the call to Sit Means Sit (SMS). We met Matt at our house and we were sold. His knowledge, his sincerity, his views on the problems our pup faces, and his effect on our pup just during this one encounter was all we needed to know that this was the right choice. We opted for the full immersion, and we could not be happier with the results. Her confidence in herself has improved greatly, her confidence in us as her master has improved greatly, and even when she lets her anxiety and energy get the best of her, she can be controlled and calmed in seconds. If SMS can help our dog break down her issues, they can definitely help yours. We honestly never thought we were going to make progress with her, we never expected we'd be able to walk her off leash, and we never though we'd feel safe to let her interact with our toddler. SMS has exceeded our hopes and expectations. You and your dogs quality of life will be forever improved. Just to note, there are three options of training available from SMS. From my personal experience and seeing the other dogs around us at group class, I believe that the full immersion training is hands down the best option. All training options come with life time group classes for you and your dog, available three times a week to fit into anyone's hectic schedule. Group class is completely worth your time to attend (we try to go to all three sessions each week) as it reinforces the training with your dog and yourself in a setting with others who are in the same boat of you. Everyone wants your dog to succeed, just as much as they want their dog to succeed. On top of that, the helpful one-on-one tips from Matt and Laurie further help you feel safe, confident and reassured in your training. They genuinely care about your pets, and our pup is so darn excited when it's time to go to class. This may be the hardest review that I've wrote to date, as words just don't do their service justice. If you're looking for great, passionate, people to help with not only your pet, but you as an owner, Sit Means Sit Waukesha is exactly what you are looking for.
