We had such a blast at the BVPC "drink and ink" night, creating our own posters and learning about the printing presses used in the shop. In addition to the adorable names they've been given, the presses have served for generations, and it was great to hear how the new owners found their way to using them. A friend found the opportunity, so I can't speak to how easy it is to sign up, nor cost, but you feel very supported the moment you walk in. We were able to bring our own snacks (drinks encouraged!) to sustain us for the 3 hour workshop. Scott was incredible - walking us through the process of creating our designs, selecting the typeface, and realizing the idea on the press. In my case, he was incredibly gracious when I promptly ignored what he said would make things easier and needed help avoiding movement in my types. I was very pleased with the final poster (of which you get to make 3, to get your colors right) and am now desperately trying to think of reasons to use their services. At minimum, I know who I'm recommending in the future. read more

If you're looking for a fun, unique experience, here's your place! At Bay View Printing, they have "Drink & Ink" nights. You can bring snacks & drinks, and don't forget creativity and lines of text to make a poster! They have parties of about 10 usually, our party was bigger though, around 12 people. It does get a little cramped and they really can't do any more people than 10-12 unless they spread out the letters more (letters are currently in the same vertical cabinet, which makes it really hard for more than one person to look at a time) and only one person can use the print press at a time. It will work well if they staggered the group in different time slots or if people who knew right away what they want to print went first and others are still thinking about it stayed out of the way while the others picked out their letters. To see everyone's creation was a ton of fun, too!!! You can use little picture icon images, switch up the fonts, really have fun with it! You build out your sign on a metal tray. The worker helping flips it (reverses it) so it prints correctly. Colors were: blue, red, gold, black... I think that was it. You are limited to a few colors at this time but it's still good there's at least more than option aside from standard black. There aren't tables to have the eats/drinks as it's literally in their workshop, which didn't bother me any. I thought it was cool. Expect to be there at least 3 hours and I felt our helper was extra good, so I gave him a little tip. Definitely not mandatory but to me, he was still providing a service to us and he did such a great job being helpful and patient. Good work should never go unrewarded! Also forgiving and understanding if your poster didn't turn out right and you didn't want to count it as one of your take homes. In total the package included three posters to take home (when I went). I recommended checking this out, it's really a good time! It's words that mean something to you, you roll the print press yourself. I already have thoughts about what I want next! read more

Excellent design work by helpful people that are easy to like. The design work done here is largely the result of a lot of top-tier design and fine-art education. The designers/artisans are creative, thoughtful and they want you to get what you want. They also host some workshops that I suppose anyone could attend but having some experience with making art would be helpful. The workshop I attended was awesome! I learned to screen print!! The creatives working here are passionate about what they do and I appreciate that they share their knowledge with others in workshops. read more

We used Bayview printing for a number of printing needs for our October 9th 2021 wedding. Bayview printing designed and printed multiple large and small signs for our tables and venue. We also had a life size cutout of our dog in a tux made, he was our honorary usher( adorable) What impressed us the most about Bayview Printing was the design that they came up with that flowed thru all our pueces but also the exceptional service that we received from Danielle. We loved working with her and not only is she a great artist but she is just an enjoyable person to talk and communicate with. The final product was very professionally done and looked amazing and helped pull our wedding theme and design together. There are often many printing needs for your big day that you are not aware of when you start the wedding process. I would highly suggest considering using Bayview  Printing for those needs as they can provide design services and the full package of what you need to make all the pieces fit together perfectly- signs, invites, etc.  Not to mention the fact that they will take care of the whole process and I cannot image how much time they saved me,  I  can't put a price on the extra time that is saved. A friend and I tried out Drink & Ink on a whim. We like to fancy ourselves crafty and we like to drink. As it turns out, we can't wait to do it again! This is a super small place, you probably need a navigator since your GPS will blink and you'll have missed it. But, it's wonderfully messy and cozy and creative. Drink & Ink was in the lower level - this was not some Pottery Barn Inspired room for crafting your suburban heart out. This was a legit workshop, where people actually do work creating amazing letterpress creations. So you get to create one poster and print a handful of copies of it with up to two inks (selected by the group) on a small variety of papers. I could have bought a custom poster on Etsy with my $30 dollars, but this way I get the bragging rights, and it's pretty much one of a kind. Boom. So, you get some instructions and you're off. Create! Be Inspired! Don't forget to put your thing down flip it and reverse it. In order to print the right way, you have to lay it out the wrong way. Although the staff was super helpful and friendly, they are not there to do your crafts for you. You find and layout the letters. You fill in the all the furniture blocks. You ink up your letters. You roll the darn press. And you put your letters away. It sounds like a lot of work, but it isn't. In fact, it was relaxing. I would highly highly recommend doing a Drink & Ink with your bestie or at least your craftiest friend. Bring along some drink (it's up to a 3 hour session, plan accordingly) and a snackie or two. Have thought about what you want your poster to say before hand - there are some non-type bits available, too, but not tons. They're called Ornaments (See! I listened!). You walk away with a few copies of your insta/pinsta worthy creation that you actually MADE YOURSELF to proudly hang where all your friends can be impressed with you. I cant even begin to explain how AMAZING Ashley and the team at Bayview Printing Co are. All of their invitations are made on a 100 year old printing press. We did an all in one suite, with invitations, rsvp cards/envelope, and weekends events card. The invitations added such a special touch to our wedding. All of our guests kept telling us how much they loved our invitations and how they were the best invites they have ever received. My aunt even said she carried it around with her leading up to the wedding to show people! The prices are similar to printing press invites on shutterfly, and we much rather give our money to a real person and local business. Ashley took what we had in our heads and put it down on paper the most beautiful way possible. They also did all of our day of paper goods. Numbers, digital programs, bar signs, and the prettiest thank you cards. She even created a poster for our guests to sign out of an idea i had in my head. They are also LGBTQ friendly! read more

OK I know this is not your typical night out on the town, but I can't help but tell you how much fun a drink and ink party can be!!! I booked this as a private party for my girlfriends and I during a weekend getaway to Milwaukee. One of the girls is in school to be an editor and I thought she would have fun. I had no idea how much fun everyone else would have too! Essentially each person designs an 11 x 17 poster with any words, pictures, and symbols they can find. This is all done on a decades old printing press with hand inked rollers and good ol' fashion stamps of all varieties. We came with drinks to go around and really didn't spend much time drinking at all. We had the minimum number of participants (6) present and I really recommend keeping the number of people down so you have an easier time finding letters throughout. We all decided on three colors that would work for our ideas and started hunting through drawers. The letters and fonts are very time consuming to get right and there are so many sizes that you will make changes at least twice! Just keep in mind there are only so many of the same letter and depending on the wording and drawer they are in you may be waiting for the ones you want. Regardless, the finished product turns out as a fantastic souvenir and unlike the paint classes out there the design is completely unique and special to you. We are not located in Milwaukee but encountered Bay View at a wedding show in Chicago and were very impressed with the designs they had done and just generally enamored of Danielle and Ashley. I had very specific ideas in mind for our invites - a trifold laser-cut steamboat silhouette on black paper. Danielle picked up on our vision right away and offered great suggestions for paper, ink, font, etc. She crafted a magnificent design that my wife (!) and I were both thrilled with. During the process we had some communication issues with the laser-cutting studio I had originally intended to use. Danielle helped find a studio local to Milwaukee that could get the cutting done at a very reasonable cost. The end results were outstanding - one of the most consistent comments we got was how terrific our invites were. I've already strongly recommended my sister use Bay View for her wedding invites and despite living quite a distance from Milwaukee, I absolutely will turn to Bay View again for future design and printing needs. Went to one of their Drink & Ink sessions last night for a much anticipated date night. This place didn't disappoint. Lovely way to spend an evening. Our instructor was knowledgeable and friendly and there was no doubting the authenticity of this both very old and very charming print shop. If we had anything negative to say it was only that the place felt a little cramped with only five of us there tonight, but what it lacks in space it more than makes up for otherwise. My boyfriend and I both thoroughly enjoyed the evening here, so we will keep this on the short list of places we'd go again. Already trying to figure out if we would be able to get a group together to go. Be advised that you need to bring your own food and drinks and I would highly recommend you do so. After all, what evening isn't made more enjoyable by a glass of wine (or two)? read more

Working with Ashley and her team at Bay View Printing Co. was such a unique experience! We got all of our paper goods for our wedding from them and couldn't have asked for more. We worked with Ashley and Danielle at Bay View Printing on our wedding invitations, programs, guestbook, table cards and thank you cards. Initially, we met Ashley and Danielle at a wedding expo in Chicago and fell in love with their letterpressed designs. The whole process of working with them from initial design, customization, going back an forth with ideas, printing and delivery of the paper goods was amazing. One of the packages was left out in the rain by UPS and the box was soaked but Bay View had wrapped all their work in plastic and it was dry as a bone! We had another mixup on our end a few days before the wedding but Bay View got us another piece printed and sent overnight to us in time, truly exceptional service! I can't recommend Bay View Printing highly enough. Their designs are beautiful, the finished product is exceptional and their customer service is unparalleled. Bay View Printing Co. is the BEST! My sister used them for her wedding invitations the year prior to my wedding so I was already aware of their raw talent. At first, I was hesitant to use them because I did not want to copy my older sister. However, when I got to meet Ashley & Danielle at a wedding vendor fair in Chicago I knew I did not have a choice!
